Weems Rufus Pennington, Sr., 89, beloved Lincoln County physician, entered into rest Wednesday, June 27, at Wills Memorial Hospital in Washington, Georgia after a long illness. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 29 at the Lincolnton United Methodist Church with Rev. Dave Hinson officiating.

Alice Ashmore Sanders

Mrs. Alice Ashmore Sanders, 99, entered into rest on Friday, June 29, 2007 at Plymouth Nursing Home. Graveside service were held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3, at Double Branches Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. David Inglett officiating.

Albert Daniel Dain

Mr. Albert Daniel Dain, 83, husband of the late Pauline Hatton Dain of Savannah Lakes Village, entered into rest Friday, July 20, 2007 at the residence. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25 at Rees Funeral Home with Rev. Dick Albert officiating.

Joy Williford Holz

Mrs. Joy Williford Holz, 51, of North Augusta, S.C., entered into rest on Monday, July 16, 2007 at her residence. A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 22, at First Assembly of God with Revs. Terry Bonds and Lanis Lewis officiating.

Mary Lois Hogan Reid
Mary Lois Hogan Reid, 93, entered into rest July 27, 2007.

Funeral services were held at 12 noon on Saturday, August 4 at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Lacy officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Ms. Reid was born August 29, 1913 to the late Linnie Gunby Hogan and Hogie Hogan in Lincolnton. She was educated in the Lincoln County School System and later certified by the state of Georgia as an educator. She married the late William Hubert Reid in 1936. They were married for 46 years and had eight children.

She was a faithful and dedicated worker not only at Tabernacle but churches throughout Lincoln County. She served the Lord in many capacities such as Sunday school teacher, first female Sunday School Superintendent in Lincoln County, director of vacation bible school, Women's Mission, choir member, director of the children's choir, trustee and a member of the Mother's Board.

Survivors include eight children, Deacon Hubert Reid of Atlanta, Ga., Edward Reid of Lincolnton, Robert Reid (Mary) of Lincolnton, Margaret Irene Stidom of Lincolnton, Gladys Reid of Miami, Fla., Monroe Reid (Regina) of Lincolnton, Shirley Martin of Lithia Springs, Ga., and Claudine Noel of Lithia Springs; two sisters, Lila Dunn of Lincolnton and Marvenia Hogan of Pasaaic, NJ; one sister-in-law, Marion Hawes of Augusta, Ga.; 27 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; three greatgreat grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers were grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were deacons. Flower ladies were Roszell Bennett, Martha Curry, Shavonne Fuller, Liz Kennedy, Brenda Reid and Frances Wilder.

Norris W. Gunby Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Sadie Goldman Lever

Ms. Sadie Goldman Lever of Augusta, Ga., entered into rest on August 3, 2007. Funeral services were held at Poteet Funeral Home, South Chapel, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 6. Committal services followed in the family plot at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Vivian Murphy Pounds

Mrs. Vivian Murphy Pounds, 77, of Augusta, Georgia entered into rest August 12, 2007 at Augusta Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. No services are planned. Mrs. Pounds was a member of First Southern Methodist Church of Augusta.

Steve Simcox

Guerry Steve Simcox, 60, entered into rest on Sunday, July 29, 2007. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 1 at Williams Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Al O'Quinn, Larry Waldrip and Michael Woodham officiating. Interment followed in Baldwin Memorial Gardens.

Melvin Groves Leverett

Melvin Groves Leverett, 68, of McCormick, S.C., entered into rest on Monday, August 13, 2007.

A memorial service was held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15 at Jones Chapel in Lincolnton.

Mr. Leverett was born in Willington, S.C. He was the son of Grace Lawton Moore of Augusta, Ga. and the late Lum Leverett, Sr. He was a retired welder and construction worker and loved playing the guitar with friends, working on clocks and taking care of his Boston terrier, Gyp.

Survivors include two sisters, Sally Leverett Spikes of Augusta and Evelyn Leverett Lawton of McCormick; one brother, Lum Leverett, Jr. of Augusta; and three children, Tammy Howard of Greenwood, S.C., Wayne Lawton and Debbie Deason, both of McCormick; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a special friend and neighbor, Brenda Crump.

Strom Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bruce W. Beachy, age 48, of Buford died April 13, 2003. He is survived by his Wife of 21 yrs.: Mrs. Nancy Beachy of Buford, GA; Son: Mr. Jason Beachy; Daughters: Miss Melissa Beachy and Miss Hannah Beachy, all of Buford; Parents: Mr. & Mrs. Bob (Doris) Beachy of Snellville, GA; Brothers: Rob and Rosi Beachy of Prior Lake, MN, Keith and Suzanne Beachy of Penn Valley, CA; Father In Law: Clyde and Shirley Hall of Quincey, FLA; Mother In Law: Mrs. Martha Hall of Blythwood, South Carolina; Several Aunts and Uncles, Nieces and Nephews, Cousins. Mr. Beachy was a native of Atlanta, GA. He was a 1972 Graduate of Cross Keys High School, Atlanta, GA. He was employed with General Electric for the past 28 years. He was of Presbyterian faith. Memorial service will be held on Friday, April 18, 2003 at 2 P.M. at Buford Presbyterian Church with Rev. William A. Crosland and Rev. Caroline Kelly officiating. Claud Eugene Lemke, Jr., age 88, of Snellville, Georgia died April 14, 2003. He was born on March 26, 1915 in Atlanta, Georgia the son of the late Claude Eugene and Ruth Freeman Lemke. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Florine Lewis Lemke; daughters Virginia L. Howell and husband Harold Howell of Snellville, GA, Claudia L. Thomas of Snellville, GA, Mary Frances Lemke of Atlanta, GA; son Ritter Eugene Lemke of Gainesville, GA; grandchildren Melanie Cohen and husband Marc Cohen of Irmo, South Carolina, Christian Thomas and wife Lauren Thomas of Lawrenceville, GA, Trenton Thomas of Snellville, GA, Melissa Joy Howell of Lawrenceville, GA, and David M. Howell of Snellville, GA; great-grandchildren Devon and Caleb Thomas of Lawrenceville, GA, sisters Bettie Parks and husband Charles Parks of Atlanta, GA, and Ottilie Norrell of Calhoun, GA; and several nieces and nephews. He was a loving and loyal husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was a member of Snellville United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Adult Bible Class and the Primetimers. He was a veteran of World War II serving as a Chief Petty Officer with the U.S. Navy Seabees. He served on the Atlanta Fire Department for 44 years and retired in 1977 as a Deputy Chief. Funeral Services will be held at 3 PM Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at Snellville United Methodist Church, Snellville, Georgia with Dr. David B. Jones officiating. Members of the Adult Bible Class of Snellville United Methodist Church and retired and present members of the Atlanta Fire Department are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. MCINTYRE, ANDREW HOOD
Mr. Andrew Hood McIntyre passed from this life on June 5, 2003 at the age of 98. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday June 7, 2003 at Bill Head Funeral Home Duluth Chapel with Rev. C.E. Cates and Dr. Robert Powers officiating. Interment Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. McIntyre was born in Whitfield County Dalton, GA on Feb. 15, 1905. In his younger life he worked on the railroad as a fireman in Texas. He lost his job due to the depression, but never lost his love for trains and as artist drew and painted many train pictures. He lived in Atlanta until he retired from Nabisco and moved to Duluth to be near his children. Mr. McIntyre was very active in his church life as a lay preacher and teacher. He had a wonderful voice as a soloist. He jointed Trinity UMC later in his life and was a very faithful and dear member. He is survived by: Daughter & Son-in-law: Shirley & Harold Gravitt; Son & Daughter-in-law: Bob & Sue McIntyre; Grandchildren: Renee, Scott & Connie Gravitt; Niece: Judith Mathis.

Mr. Jack B. Luffman age 92 of Stone Mountain died June 7, 2003. He was born in the City of Resaca, GA. Mr. Luffman was preceded in death by his parents Furman and Emma Brookshire Luffman and his wife, Ruth Mullinax Luffman. Survivors are: sons, Paul Luffman of Loganville, Larry Luffman of Stone Mountain, and Jerry Luffman of Marietta. Sister, Sue Luffman of Waycross. 9 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. Mr. Luffman was a retired machinist with Southern Spring and Bed Company. Family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 and 6-9 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday June 9, 2003 at Smith's Memory Chapel. Interment will be at 3:00 Monday at Cassville Cemetery.
