Jean LaVallee

DANIELSVILLE- Jean Tyner LaVallee, 80, 2135 Jones Chapel-Shiloh Road, Danielsville, died March 30, 2002 at the Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.

A native of Madison County, she was born Dec. 26, 1921 to the late Joel Marvin and Fairah Winn Tyner. Her husband was the late Leon LaVallee. She was a member of the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia McNeil Harwood, Burlington, N.C.; one sister, Jeanette Strickland, Eastanollee; a brother, Dwaine Tyner, Diamond Hill; three grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Donald Joe McNeil; a sister, Mary Jo Sartain; and one brother, John C. Tyner.

Funeral services were held April 1, 2002 at the Chapel of the Pruitt Funeral Home. The Revs. G.C. McCurry, Dennis Kesler and Jonathan Randall officiated. Burial followed in the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church Family Life Center, c/o Ray Cochran, 2909 HIghway 191, Danielsville, GA 30633.

Douglas Fowler

HULL-Douglas Jay Fowler, 33, 572 Willis Glenn Road, Hull, died March 30, 2002 at the Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.

A native of Clarke County, he was born Nov. 8, 1968 to Ray Fowler of Athens and Dora Cordelia Bridges Preston of Danielsville. He was employed in the paving business and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Community Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, survivors include his fiance', Leah Graham, Comer; a son, Conner Fowler, Winterville; one daughter, Tori Wray, Reidsville, N.C.; two brothers, Eric Fowler, Danielsville and Buddy Fowler, Athens; and one sister Sandra Shelnutt, Hull.

Funeral services were held April 2, 2002 at Community Baptist Church. The Rev. David Strickland officated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Andrea Roberts
ROYSTON-Andrea Kathleen Swensen Roberts, 58, of 2350 Athens Rd., died Nov. 5, 2002 at her home.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., she was born March 16, 1944 to Arthur George Swensen of Royston and the late Olga Korick Swensen. She was a retired nurse and was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include her father, Arthur George Swensen and a daughter, Erica Brooke Roberts, both of Royston,

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Hunter Alexander English.

A funeral mass was held Nov. 8, 2002 at the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel. Father Terence Kane officiated. Burial followed in the Rose Hill cemetery in Royston.

Tommy R. Crabb Sr.
LAVONIA-Tommy Ray Crabb Sr., 61, of 815 Tugalo State Park Rd., died Nov. 6, 2002.

A native of Paulding County, he was born Sept. 13, 1941 to Mrs. Mary Irene Atkins Crabb and the late Rev. James Otis Crabb. He was the husband of Shirley Ann Crowley Crabb. He was engaged in work as an electrician for 40 years and worked for 10 years in the oil fields of Alaska and various other countries. He was a member of the I.B.E.W. and the Ivy Creek Church in Buford.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Irene Atkins Crabb of Rockmart; his wife Shirley Ann Crowley Crabb of the home; daughters, Nikki Crabb Rakestraw, North Port, Fla., Nanci Crabb Fulbright, Eastanollee; a son, Tommy Ray Crabb Jr., Clarkesville; two sisters, Betty Crabb Coffman, Rome, Elsie Crabb McDow, Marietta; a brother, John Dee Crabb, Cedartown; and three grandchildren, Hunter Simonton, Clayton Fulbright and Cassady Fulbright.

Services were held Nov. 10, 2002 from the chapel of Hamby Funeral Home in Lavonia. The Rev. Robert Wright of Rockmart officiated. Mr. Scott Simonton and Mr. Jim Coffman ministered in music. Interment followed in the Franklin Memorial Gardens, North in Lavonia.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: John Stone, Marlin Harris, Robert George, Scott Simonton, David Coffman, Burt Coffman and Jim Coffman. Mr. Danny Fulcher and Mr. Bill Crowley served as honorary pallbearers.

Nettie Bond
CARNESVILLE-Nettie Forester Bond, 89, of 281 Nesmith Rd., died Nov. 8, 2002 at her home.

A native of Franklin County, she was born Dec. 6, 1912 to the late James Thomas and Hannah Crump Forester and was the wife of the late William Fred Bond. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Agnes Millen, Conyers, and Shelby Jean Nesmith, Carnesville; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and a brother, James Forester, Douglasville.

She was preceded in death by brothers John Henry, Clyde, and Dock Forester; and a sister, Eva Mae Forester.

Services were held Nov. 10, 2002 at the New Bethel Baptist Church. The Rev. Tommy Childress offficiated. Burial followed in the Indian Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Keith Braswell
CARNESVILLE-Robert Keith Braswell, 39, of 730 GA Hwy 198, died Nov. 7, 2002 at his home.

He was born Feb. 14, 1963 to Truel and Joyce Shoemaker Braswell. He was the husband of Angela Lee Young Braswell and a member of the Buford Church of God. He was a graduate of North Gwinnett High School and was a carpenter.

Survivors include his parents, Truel and Joyce Shoemaker Braswell of Carnesville; his wife, Angela Lee Young Braswell; a daughter, Miranda Lee Braswell; and two sons, Bryce Keith Braswell and Tyler Dillon Braswell, all of the home; and one brother, Anthony Duane 'Tony' Braswell, Suwanee.

Services were held Nov. 10, 2002 at the chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home. The Revs. Willard Fitzpatrick and Edward Davenport officiated. Interment followed in the Broadlawn Memorial Gardens in Buford.

L.J. Victory
LAVONIA-L.J. Victory, 82, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002 at Hart County Hospital in Hartwell.

A native of Wayne County, Tenn., he was born Sept. 3, 1920 to the late Hugh and Joann Gillis Victory. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired truck driver. He was a member of the Toccoa Church of Christ and was the last surviving member of a family of ten siblings.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Laskowski, Rochester Hills, Mich., Brenda McAllister, Tuscumbia, Ala., and Betty Frederick, Cullman, Ala.; three sons, L.J. Victory Jr., Lavonia, Charles Victory, Smyrna, Tenn., and Jesse Victory, Goodspring, Tenn.; sixteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren; and a very close friend, Margaret Bradford of Lavonia.

Services for Mr. L.J. Victory were held Nov. 11, 2002 from the chapel of Hamby Funeral Home in Lavonia. Brother Aubrey Prestidge officiated. Interment followed in the Shoal Creek Baptist Church Cemetery

Ray Delton Oliver
KANNAPOLIS, N.C.- Ray Delton Oliver, 83, died Nov. 10, 2002 at Universal Healthcare in Concord, N.C.

A native of Franklin County, he was born May 21, 1919 to the late Burke Thomas Oliver and Ethel Duval Oliver and was the husband of the late Lucy Cromer Oliver. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was retired from Cannon Mills Co. and had worked part-time at Towel City Retreading in Kannapolis.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David R.and Martha Oliver, Kannapolis; a daughter, Peggy O. Tomlinson, Kannapolis; grandchildren, Donna Coffey, Luanne Wiseman, both of Kannapolis, Stacy Lunsford, Shelly Stamey, both of China Grove, N.C.; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Nov. 13, 2002 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. The Rev. Billy Rintz officiated. Interment followed in Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.

Utah (Beetle) Phillips
ATHENS-Utah (Beetle) Phillips, 62, of the University Nursing Home in Athens, formerly of Royston, died Nov. 10, 2002.

A native of Franklin County, he was born July 4, 1940, to the late Dilliard Franklin and Frances Mozelle James Phillips. He was a retired electrician.

Survivors include a daughter, Jazmyne DeRepentigny, Fort Worth, Texas; brothers, Thomas Phillips and Danny Wayne Phillips, both of Royston, and Bobby (Bo) Phillips, Canon; sisters, Annie Sue Minish, Bowman, Gale Strickland and Louise Dudley, both of Commerce; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers James Douglas and Belton R. Phillips, and sister Genomie Patrick.

Graveside services were held Nov. 12, 2002 at the Pennington Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Jonathan Randall officiated.

Eva McWorther Crenshaw

SPRINGFIELD-Eva McWorther Crenshaw, 96 died March 30, 2002 at Effingham Care Center.

A native of Franklin County, she was born July 25, 1905. She was a retired teacher, was consecrated as a Deaconess in the Methodist Church and did rural church and community work until her retirement. She was a member of the Silver Hill United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her nephew, Don Crenshaw, Topeka, Kan.; cousins Louise Roberts, Dade City. Fla., Miriam Hunt and Jessie South, both of Martin; special friends, John and Martha Ann Patnaude, Vanlee and Linda Mercer, Jo Ollie Steed and many others.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald L. Crenshaw.

Funeral services were held April 2, 2002 at Allens United Methodist Church in Carnesville. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Silver Hill United Methodist Church Bldg. Fund, P.O. Box 243, Springfield, GA 31329.

Zelda “Claudette” Wilson
CARNESVILLE-Zelda “Claudette” Wilson, 65, of 2596 Kesler Rd., died Dec. 17, 2002 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens.

She was the daughter of the late Howard Q. Sheridan and Bessie Naomi Kimbrell Sheridan and the wife of the late Charles Leatus Wilson.

Survivors include four sons, Greg Wilson and Jess Reeves, both of Carnesville, Kenneth Wilson and Ronnie Wilson, both of Hull; two daughters, Becky Wilson Phillips, Athens, Retha Wilson, Hull; brothers Gerald Sheridan, Texas, Leon Sheridan, Athens; sisters, Thelma Stockton, Panama City Beach, Fla., Sylvia Gale, Hull, Rossly Shook, Earline Simmons, and Carolyn McDonald, all of Commerce; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her special friend Clyde Jesse Reeves Jr. and her son Bobby Ray Wilson.

Funeral services were held Dec. 20, 2002 at the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home. The Rev. Dennis Kesler officiated. Burial followed in the Grey Hill Cemetery.

Gussie Schlock
CANON-Gussie Lee Schlock, 64, of Bond Ave., died Dec. 17, 2002 at Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston.

A native of Hart County, he was born Dec. 30, 1937 to the late Joe Mackeral and Vera Rozelle Schlock. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Bethesda Methodist Church.

Survivors include daughters, Catherine Warren, Valdosta, and Jacquelyn Fogle, Orangeburg, S.C.; one sister, Frances Hill, Athens; a brother, Mack Schlock, Elberton; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Dec. 20, 2002 at the Chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home. The Rev. Johnny Stowe officiated. Burial followed in Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

Omie Lee Ayers Coker
THOMASVILLE, N.C.-Omie Lee Ayers Coker, 96, died Dec. 12, 2002. A native of Carnesville, she was born Feb. 16, 1905 to the late Joseph Randall Ayers and Frances Ann Jordan Ayers and was the wife of the late Lee H. Coker.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, William Donald and Nancy Coker, Kenneth Flanders and Virginia Coker, Jerry Maynard and Oberia Coker; daughter-in-law, Frances C. Coker; six grandchildren and their spouses, Celeste and Rusty Payne, Brian and Kathryn Coker, Josh and Kim Teresa Ellerbrock Coker, Susan and Mark Swaim, Julie and Joe Lloyd, the Rev. Kenneth and Nikki Coker; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son Howard Coker, and brothers Odis, John, Hollman, Mitch and Wess Ayers.

Funeral services were held Dec. 15, 2002 at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Jack G. Stratas and Kenny Coker officiated. Interment followed in Holly Hill Memorial Park cemetery in Thomasville, N.C.

Brenda Timms
RUSSELVILLE, ALA.-Brenda Nelms Timms, 56, formerly of Royston, died Dec. 15, 2002 at Russellville Hospital in Russellville, Ala.

She was born Sept. 20, 1946 to the late Ralph and Norvin Hilliard Nelms. She was the wife of the late Allen Wayne Timms and was a retired store manager.

Survivors include sons, Jimmy Ergel and Billy Ergel, both of Phil Campbell, Ala.; and eight grandchildren.

Services were held Dec. 18, 2002 at the Chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home. The Rev. Ron Doss officiated. Burial followed in Franklin Memorial Gardens-South.

Secret Hart
ROYSTON-Secret N. Hart, 74, of 346 Cromer’s Bridge Rd., died Jan. 20, 2003 at Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston.

A native of Franklin County, he was born Sept. 26, 1928 to the late John Walter and Allene Cornelia Cromer Hart. He was the husband of Ruth Phillips Hart and was retired from Oliver Rubber Company after 36 years of service. He enjoyed cutting pulpwood and cotton farming, and was a member of Zidon Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Phillips Hart, Royston; sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Deborah Hart, Ronald (Rock) and Beverly Hart, Secret Michael (Chick) and Sylvia Hart, all of Royston; daughter and son-in-law, Ron and Sharon Hart Wilkie, Royston; grandchildren, Sabrina Hart, Jessica Hart, Michael and Corey Hart; brothers, Benson Hart, Toccoa, and Stewart Hart, Danielsville; and three sisters, Louise Martin, Royston, Nancy Floyd, Watkinsville, and JoAnn Bradberry, Hull.

He was preceded in death by brothers John Will Hart, Leon Hart and James Hart.

Funeral services were held Jan. 22, 2003 at the Zidon Baptist Church. The Revs. Vernon Dorminy and John Swanger officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Shirley Hart Story
THOMSON-Shirley Hart Story, 62, of 411 Shiloh Rd., died Jan. 20, 2003 at Doctors Hospital.

A native of Franklin County, she was the wife of the Rev. Hubert Story, was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Hubert Story, Thomson; daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Stephen Neilson, Island Lake, Ill., Amy and John Hilliard, Thomson; grandchildren, Chase and Casey Hilliard, both of Thomson; two brothers, Billy Hart and Tommy Hart, both of Royston; two sisters, Janelle Mize and Betty Jean Pitts, both of Royston; and in-laws, Sam and Joyce S. Brunson and Roger and Patricia S. Harrison, all of Thomson.

Funeral services were held Jan. 23, 2003 at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jane Brooks officiated. Interment followed in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to The National Kidney Foundation.
