Almon Edgar Whitfield
TOCCOA - Almon Edgar Whitfield, 70, of 5960 Brookdale Rd., Toccoa, died March 28, 2003 at Stephens County Hospital in Toccoa.

A native of Hart County, he was born Aug. 28, 1932 to the late William Edgar and Blanche Whitlow Whitfield. He was employed by General Motors in Atlanta from 1954 to 1964 and in 1964 moved to Michigan and became involved with several aspects of the automotive industry until his retirement in 1998. He resided in Holly, Mich. at the time of his retirement, after which he returned to Toccoa to be near family and life - long friends. He was a member of the Zebulon Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Edwards, Aiken, S.C.; son, David Whitfield, Roan Mountain, Tenn.; sisters and brothers - in - law Mildred Sosby, Mary Ayers and Willie Jo Meeks, Patsy and John Hicks, and Faye and Alton Herron, all of Toccoa; brothers and sister - in - law, Homer G. Whitfield, Anderson, S.C.. Bobby Whitfield, Tommy and Sybil D. Whitfield, all of Toccoa; sister - in - law Mary Whitfield, Anderson, S.C.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers Hubert, Herbert, and Jack Whitfield.

Services were held March 30, 2003 from the chapel of Hamby Funeral Home in Lavonia. Dr. Wade Bridges and Mr. Ken Whitfield officiated. Entombment followed in the Good Shepherd Mausoleum of Franklin Memorial Gardens, North in Lavonia.

Pallbearers were Gary Whitfield, Tim Hicks, Chad Herron, Dale Meeks, Erin Edwards, Wesley Whitfield, Chuck Whitfield, and Brad Whitfield. Nieces and nephews served as honorary escort.

R.L. Smith
ROYSTON - Robert Lee Smith of the Brown Memorial Convalescent Center died March 29, 2003 at the Brown Memorial Convalescent Center in Royston.

A native of Hart County, he was the son of the late Asa Dennard and Lizzie Winn Smith and was the husband of the late Lettie Rousey Smith. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, a retired farmer and member of the Peniel Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include his sister, Lairee Herbert of Toccoa and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by twin daughters Joyce Ann and Janice Smith, brothers Aaron, Horace and Walton Smith, and sister Ruby Woodall.

Funeral services were held April 1, 2003 at the Peniel Pentecostal Holiness Church. The Revs. Bert Synan, Mike Crowe and Gary Osteen officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Marie Roberts
ROYSTON - Lily Marie Shelton Roberts, 26, of 731 Pearwood Rd., Royston, died March 27, 2003.

A native of Clayton County, she was born Nov. 21, 1976 to Charles and Rose Blount Shelton of Griffin. She was the wife of Joseph Roberts and was a homemaker.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her husband Joseph Roberts, Royston; a brother, Joey Shelton, Griffin; sisters Becki Henley, Griffin, and Debbie Roberts, Carnesville; and grandparents Joe and Jean Blount, Stockbridge.

She was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Michael Roberts.

Funeral services were held March 31, 2003 at the Alto Congregational Holiness Church. The Rev. Leon Brown officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Michael Roberts
ROYSTON - Joseph Michael Roberts, 8, of 731 Pearwood Rd., Royston, died March 27, 2003.

A native of Jackson County, he was born Nov. 5, 1994 to Joseph Roberts of Royston and the late Lillie Marie Shelton Roberts. He was a second grader at Providence Academy and was active in the Commerce Pee - Wee Baseball League.

Survivors include his father, Joseph Roberts, Royston; grandparents, George and Wyvonia Bryson, Homer, Charles and Rose Shelton, Griffin; and great grandparents, Joe and Jean Blount, Stockbridge, Dessie Davis, Griffin, and Betty Bryson, Cumming.

Funeral services were held March 31, 2003 at Alto Congregational Holiness Church. The Rev. Leon Brown officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Henry Fulbright
BOWERSVILLE - Henry Blake Fulbright Sr., 85, of 361 Airline School Rd., Bowersville, died March 30 at Hart County Hospital.

A native of Franklin County, he was the son of the late Henry David Fulbright and Lizzie Burnett Fulbright. He was the husband of Helen Faggart Fulbright and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of WW II. He was retired from the textile industry as a loom fixer, and was a member of the Lavonia VFW and the Lavonia Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Faggart Fulbright of the home; two sons, Henry Blake Fulbright Jr., Bowersville, Paul David Fulbright, Paris, Texas; two daughters, Judy Ford, Bowersville, Linda Kernen, Flowery Branch; brothers, Paul “Hoke” Fulbright, Anderson, S.C., and D.C. Fulbright, Carnesville; seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services were held April 2, 2003 in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home. Bishop Willard Fitzpatrick and the Rev. Connie Mack Bowers officiated. Burial followed in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

Henry Marshall Wilson
LAVONIA - Henry Marshall Wilson, 82, of 235 Old Race Track Rd., Lavonia, died March 31, 2003 at Hart County Hospital in Hartwell.

A native of Franklin County, he was born Dec. 6, 1920 to the late Warren Early and Leona Dickson Wilson and was the husband of Audrey J. Martin Wilson. He was retired after over thirty years of service to Colonial Pipeline in Atlanta, was a farmer, and U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lavonia, American Legion Post #107, and American Legion Post #92, and the John L. Whitworth Post#5897, VFW.

Survivors include sons, Bruce Edward Wilson, Douglasville, Dennis Marshall Wilson, Lilburn, and Allan Henry Wilson, Dunwoody; a sister, Helen Walker, Lilburn; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Warren Leonard Wilson.

Funeral services were held April 3, 2003 from the chapel of Hamby Funeral Home. Dr. Larry Finger officiated. Burial followed in Franklin Memorial Gardens, North in Lavonia.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Lavonia.

Gwen Murphy
CARNESVILLE - Gwen Murphy of Carnesville, wife of Jerry Murphy, died at her residence, Sunday, March 30, 2003 after an extended illness.

A memorial service will be announced later by the Ginn Funeral Home.

Irene Faye Faulk Williams
LAVONIA - Irene Faye Faulk Williams, 52, of Lavonia, died March 30, 2003.

A native of Lake Charles, La., she was the wife of the late Gerald Williams Sr.

Survivors include a daughter, Candy Harris, Bowersville; sons, Robert Williams, Lavonia, and Gerald Williams, Jefferson; brothers, Elwin Faulk and Billy Faulk, both of Longville, La., Haywood Faulk, Lafayette, La.; and seven grandchildren.

Services were held April 1, 2003 at the chapel of Lord and Stephens Funeral Home in Danielsville. The Revs. Robert Garrett and Dr. Larry Finger officiated. Burial followed at the Bible Baptist Church cemetery.

Lenora Macijewski
HARTWELL - Lenora Hembree Macijewski, 87, of 106 Vickery St., died June 3, 2003 at her home.

A native of Hart County, she was the daughter of the late Columbus Hembree and Nettie Parker Hembree. She was a homemaker, a member of Reed Creek Baptist and a member of the Golden Agers.

Survivors include sons, James Herman Macijewski, Westminster, S.C., and David Macijewski, Anderson, S.C.; daughters, Margaret Dyer, Brenda Vail and Jane Vaughn, all of Hartwell; sister, LaDon Hix and three brothers, James H. Hembree, Ray Hembree, and Talmadge Hembree, all of Hartwell; seven grandchildren and six great - grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Lois Boggs and brother, Carey Hembree.

Funeral services were held June 4, 2003 from Reed Creek Baptist Church. The Revs. Sam Dulaney and Jason Danuser officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Reed Creek Baptist Church, 130 Boleman Hill Rd., Hartwell, GA 30643.

Edna Hall
CANON - Edna Louise Manley Hall, 83, of 3346 Starr’s Bridge Rd., , died June 4, 2003, at Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston.

A native of Hart County, she was born May 15, 1920 to the late Jesse Harrison and Annie Ussery Manley; and was the wife of the late Paul Drennon Hall. She was retired from the textile industry as a seamstress, and was a member of the Gaines Chapel United Methodist Church where she was a member of the W.M.U. and served as a Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include her daughter, Virginia Mason, Canon; sons, Jerry Hall, Hartwell, and Rick Hall, Athens; three sisters, Mildred Manley, Belton, S.C., Billie Jean Thompson, Carnesville, and Ruth Lawson, Midlothian, Texas; brother, Roy Manley, Macon; five grandchildren and seven great - grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by brothers Nelson, Freeman and Ray Manley.

The Revs. Don Nestor and Merritt Waters officiated at the funeral services held June 7, 2003 at the Chapel of the Pruitt Funeral Home in Royston. Burial followed in the Gaines Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery.

Irene “Bea” Cash Cashion
PALATKA, FLA. - Irene “Bea” Cash Cashion, 82, of Zeagler Dr., formerly of Hartwell, died June 5, 2003 at Palm Garden Nursing Home in Gainesville, Fla.

A native of Catoosa County, she was the daughter of the late William Leonard Cash and Ruth Strange Cash and the wife of the late Curran Winston Cashion. She was a homemaker and member of the Hartwell First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Elaine C. Newmans of Gainesville, Fla.; brothers, Leo Cash of Rossville and Royce D. Cash of Nashville, Tenn, ; and one grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her brother Maurice Cash.

Graveside services were held at Nancy Hart Memorial Park. Dr. Hugh Kirby officiated.

Becky Segars
CARNESVILLE - Rebecca London “Becky” Segars, 61, of 10525 Hwy 106, died June 6, 2003 at the Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.

She was born July 30, 1941 to Mrs. Nell Waters London and the late Homer Merritt London. She was the wife of Douglas Segars, co - owner of Douglas Segars Used Cars, and was a member of Lavonia Church of God.

Survivors include her husband, Douglas Segars; her mother, Nell Waters London, Toccoa; daughters and sons - in - law, Teresa and Talmadge Watkins, Carnesville, and Tanya and Mark Belk, Lanett, Ala.; sons and daughters - in - law, Brian and Donna Segars, Ocala, Fla., Kevin and Kristina Segars, Carnesville, and Klinton and Beth Segars, Athens; grandchildren, Noah Belk, Jessica Segars, Ally Segars, Haley Segars, Gabriel Segars, Adam Belk, Kinsey Segars, and Eric Myers; brothers Jimmy, Johnny, and Terry London, all of Toccoa; and sister, Linda Fricks, Toccoa.

She was preceded in death by her grandson Brian Daniel Segars and granddaughter Elizabeth Segars.

Services were held June 9, 2003 at the Lavonia Church of God. The Revs. Willard Fitzpatrick, Thomas Whitfield, and Jewell Segars officiated. Entombment followed at the Franklin Memorial Gardens.

Seiss Nickels Taylor Sr.
ELLENWOOD - Seiss Nickels Taylor Sr., 95, of 3130 West Side Place, died June 7, 2003 at Decatur Hospital in Decatur.

A native of Falcon, N.C., he was born May 4, 1908 to the late George Floyd and Ella Katherine Brown Taylor; and was the husband of Mildred Hazel Wilson Taylor. He was a retired printer and was a former member of the Atlanta First Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Hazel Wilson Taylor, Ellenwood; sons, George Floyd Taylor, Hampton, Harold Wilson Taylor, Ellenwood, Seiss Nickels Taylor Jr., Marietta; daughters, Janice Darlene Gibson, Donaldsonville, Miriam Rebecca Jones, Danielsville, Elizabeth Ann Mosley, Morrow, Debra Sue Castille, Baton Rouge, La.; sisters, Havens Spivey, Gainesville, Fla., and Rachel Green, Jacksonville, Fla.; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother Zeloates Taylor.

The Rev. Bill Avant officiated at the funeral services, held June 10, 2003 at the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Franklin Springs City Cemetery.
