J.C. Poole
J.C. Poole, 79, of 119 Poplar Circle died Saturday at his home.
Mr. Poole was born Dec. 31, 1921 in Lula, son of the late Joe Cephus and Gartrell Miller Poole. He was an Army veteran of World War II and had lived in LaGrange most of his life. He was a deacon of Dunson Baptist Church, where he also sang in the choir. He retired from the meat market at Winn - Dixie on Hogansville Road.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Essie Stephens Poole; a daughter and son - in - law, Martha and Warren King of Pine Mountain; two sons and a daughter - in - law, Denver and Susan Poole of Cartersville and Kenneth Arnold Poole and his friend Gail Hood of LaGrange; six grandchildren; nine great - grandchildren; three sisters and brothers - in - law, Coleen Howard of Gainesville, Shirley and Marion Whatley of Atlanta, and Rae and John Popham of Demorest; three brothers and sisters - in - law, Otis and Frieda Poole of Heidelburg, Germany, David and Johnnie Poole of Ellijay and Gene and Hilda Poole of Hoschton.
Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Striffler - Hamby Mortuary's LaGrange chapel with the Rev. Bill Bryant and the Rev. Andy Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 4 to 6 p.m.
Flowers are appreciated, but those so desiring may make donations to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Mr. Poole.

Mrs. Peggy Fleming
Mrs. Peggy C. Fleming, 97, formerly of Hartwell, died Friday in Florence Hand Home.
The daughter of the late John Thomas and Carrah Adams Cordell, Mrs. Fleming was born Aug. 31, 1903 in Elbert County. She was a homemaker and member of Bio Baptist Church in Hart County, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and pianist. She was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class, W.M.U. and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Survivors include two daughters and a son - in - law, Barbara F. and James Ed Brown of LaGrange, and Betty F. Wallace of LaGrange; one grandson, David Collins of Reno, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Wade Fleming.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Hartwell with the Rev. Connie Mack Bowers officiating. Burial will be in Bio Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Strickland Funeral Home in Hartwell tonight from 7 to 9 p.m.
Flowers will be accepted. Contributions may be made to the Bio Baptist Church cemetery Fund in memory of Mrs. Fleming.
Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

H.D. Laye
H.D. Laye of Aliquippa, Pa., formerly of LaGrange, died Tuesday.
Local survivors include a niece, Bessie Johnson and a nephew, Ernest Nelson.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at The Church in the Round in Aliquippa.
Sheffield Funeral Home at 920 Franklin Ave., in Aliquippa is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ola M. Rogers
Mrs. Ola Mae Rogers, 85, of 107 Addie St. died Wednesday at Twin Fountains Nursing Home.
Mrs. Rogers, born May 7, 1915, in Harris County, was the daughter of the late Olan and Ida Davidson Blackmon. She was a retired laundry worker and a member of Union Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son - in - law, Artie Mae and Benjamin Hutchinson Sr. of Pine Mountain, four grandchildren, Artie Bell and Willie S. Norwood of Whitesville, Victoria Griggs of Pine Mountain, Rubena and William A. Stargell of LaGrange, and Benjamin and Lytawize Hutchinson of Dale City, Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Rosie Lee Brown of Atlanta, Mrs. Lilla Pearl Bailey and Mrs. Minnie Moss, both of LaGrange; a stepsister, Mrs. Sara Johnson of Whitesville; and 13 great - grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mountain Springs Baptist Church on Highway 18 in West Point with the Rev. Alfonzia Simpson Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the home of her daughter and son - in - law, Artie Mae and Benjamin Hutchinson Sr., at 5037 Highway 18 in Pine Mountain.
Lakes - Dunson - Robertson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

B.J. Anderson
Bobby Joe (B.J.) Anderson Sr., 70, of 4264 Greenville Road died Tuesday at Hospice LaGrange.
Mr. Anderson, born in Chipley, Ga., on July 31, 1930, was the son of the late Willis Rudolph and Nettie Evelyn Key Anderson. He had lived in LaGrange since 1953 and was a member of Faith Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a retired driver for Motor Convoy.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Florine Prather Anderson of LaGrange; a son and daughter - in - law, Joey and Sandy Anderson of Pine Mountain; daughters and sons - in - law, Patti and Bobby Hosey and Laura and Donald Daniel, all of LaGrange, and Jeannie and Alan Walker of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Jason Daniel, Ben Hosey, Pamela Daniel, Nathan Hosey and Jon Hosey, all of LaGrange, and Alex Walker of Charlotte; and two sisters, Mrs. Doris Smith of Warm Springs and Mrs. Mildred Carter of Jamesville, N.C. And several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Mary Jane Anderson.
Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Meadoway Gardens.
The family will be at their home and will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday at Striffler - Hamby Mortuary at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Faith Baptist Church Building Fund or Hospice LaGrange in memory of Mr. Anderson.

Hubert L. Pittman Sr.
Hubert L. Pittman Sr., 73, of 803 Truitt Ave., died Tuesday at his home.
Mr. Pittman, a native of Clayton County, was born July 22, 1927, the son of the late Carl Hurston Sr. and Mary Coleman Pittman. He had lived here most of his life and was the retired owner and operator of Pittman Transfer. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher and a member of the Brotherhood. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a member of Union Lodge #28, Free and Accepted Masons.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Doris May Pittman; a daughter, Lenora Matula; two sons and a daughter - in - law, Lee and Deborah Pittman and Allen Pittman, all of LaGrange; five grandchildren, Aleisha, Renee, Christopher, Hurston and Denver; one great - granddaughter, Hanna; one brother. Robert M. Pittman of Melbourne, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Unity Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Robinson officiating. Entombment will be in Heritage Hall Mausoleum in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
The family will be at their home and will receive friends at Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m.
Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may contribute to the Unity Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Mr. Pittman.

Miss Bessie Brown
Miss Bessie V. Brown, 88, of Hogansville, died Monday.
Born March 4, 1913, in Coweta County, Miss Brown was the daughter of the late Thomas Emmett and Emmie White Brown. She had lived in Hogansville for 57 years and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and the Amazing Grace Sunday School Class. She retired from Uniroyal Inc. after 40 years of service.
Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews, including a special niece and nephew, Elizabeth Smith of Hogansville and Emmett Brown of Livermore, Calif.; and special great - nieces, Kim Shirah, Amy Chapman, Renea Bailey and Monique Bonner, all of Hogansville.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Antioch Baptist Church in Hogansville. The Rev. Wesley Boatman, Roy Wright and Kevin Wegienka will officiate with burial in Ramah Baptist Church cemetery in Palmetto.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight and Thursday night at Claude A. McKibben & Sons Funeral Home.

Mrs. Fannie Wilson
Mrs. Fannie Wilson, 91, of 202 Rutland Circle died Tuesday at Hospice LaGrange.
A native of Randolph County, Ala., Mrs. Wilson was born May 7, 1909, the daughter of the late Walter P. and Selema Owens Benefield. She had lived here most of her life and was a homemaker and member of Franklin Road Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons - in - law, Jean and Marvin Wright, Helen and Curtis Knight and Barbara Williams; one son and daughter - in - law, W.H. (Bo) and Addie Wilson, all of LaGrange; 15 grandchildren, 26 great - grandchildren, nine great - great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Sledge and Pastor Michael Hornsby officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at her home and will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 until 9 this evening.
Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may contribute to Hospice LaGrange in memory of Mrs. Wilson.

Mrs. Laura Scavonne
Mrs. Laura Scavonne, 47, of 1309 Valley St., died Monday at Hospice LaGrange.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 5 p.m. at Eastside Community Church with Pastor M.L. Rigsby officiating.
Mrs. Scavonne, a native of Langdale, Ala., was born Sept. 28, 1953, the daughter of the late Gordon Ray and Pearl Edge Smith. She had lived in the Valley, Ala., and LaGrange areas all of her life. She was a former secretary and bookstore manager at Southern Union State Community College and a member of Eastside Community Church.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Scavonne; a daughter, Brandi Okrutny; three sons, Heath Okrutny and James Okrutny, all of LaGrange, and Tony Okrutny of Stockbridge; three sisters, Linda Baker and Paula Fuller, both of LaGrange, and Anita Smith of Birmingham, Ala.; three grandchildren' and several nieces and nephews.
Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jack Freeman
Albert Hugh (Jack) Freeman, 84, of 206 North Lee St., died Monday at his country home at 660 Abbottsford Road.
Mr. Freeman, born May 2, 1916, in Troup County, was the son of the late Albert Posey and Bessie Hadaway Freeman. He was the former co - owner of Freeman Furniture Company at Lee's Crossing and a lifetime member and former deacon of Wehadkee Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mrs. Kathleen Lucas Freeman; a niece, Patricia Freeman Highfield of LaGrange; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Shadowlawn cemetery with Basil Lucas officiating.
The family will receive friends at both of his homes.
Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may contribute to Hospice LaGrange or Wehadkee Baptist Church in memory of Mr. Freeman.
Striffler - Hamby Mortuary at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road is in charge of arrangements.
