Carolyn Davidson
Graveside services for Carolyn Davidson, of Vero Beach Fla., formerly of LaGrange, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, in Long Cane Cemetery.
Miss Davidson, born Nov. 14, 1914, in Troup County, was the oldest daughter of the late Robert Monroe and Bertha Mallory Davidson. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia and did graduate work at the University of Wyoming, the University of Miami and Columbia University. She was awarded a John Hay Fellowship at Columbia for post graduate work in the field of the Humanities. She taught English for 36 years in LaGrange, in Bakersfield, Calif., and in Miami, Fla., retiring there in 1980.
During World War II she worked with the War Department at the Atlanta and at the Miami Ordinance Depots. After three years she joined the International Red Cross, entering American University in Washing D.C. for training as a recreational director. She was assigned to serve with the Infantry, Air Corps and Marines in the Far Eastern Theater of Operations in India, China and Korea. She later worwked as an executive secretarty on the traveling staff of Beta Sigma Phi, an international cultural, social and intellectual sorority headquartered in Kansas City, Mo.
After her retirement she worked part time as a librarian at Dade Community College's South Campus in Miami. She was a member of Peace Presbyterian Church in Stuart, Fla.
Survivors include a sister, Jean D. Prather of Columbus. and several nieces and nephews.
Cox - Gifford Funeral Home in Vero Beach, Fla., is in charge of arrangemtns.

John R. Boon
John R. Boon, 83, o LaGrange died Sunday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Boon, born Sept. 16, 1919, in Roanoke, Va., was the son of the late Edward P. and Anna M. Boon. He had lived here more than 12 years and retired as a brakeman for Southern Railway.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Boon Huffman of LaGrange; a son, Carl P. Boon of Las Vegas, Nev.; his friend and caretaker, Martha 'Gladys' Wilson; two grandchildren; and a sister, Anna Boon Roberts of Roanoke, Va. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Hall Boon.
There will be no services at this time.
Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mattie Gilbert Sellars of 85 Teaver Road died Monday at West Georgia Medical Center.
The family will be her home.

Bobby Gene Parmer
Bobby Gene Parmer, 66, of LaGrange, died Thursday at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton.
Mr. Parmer, born November 6, 1935 in Randolph County, Ala., was the son of Mr. Holly Parmer and the late Ina Lou Parmer.
Mr. Parmer was a member of the Gray Hill Baptist Church and was self - employed in the plumbing business. He was a United States Army veteran, having served after the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his father, Mr. Holly Parmer; four daughters and sons - in - law, Liz Fuller, Diann and Steve Phillips, Sandy and Randy Rosamond all of LaGrange, and Sue and Junior Mann of Pine Mountain; son and daughter - in - law, Robert and Leigh Parmer of Dalton; 11 grandchildren; two great - grandchilden; six sisters and five brothers - in - law, Judy and Jimmy Nixon, Margie and Lloyd Noles, Jane and Larry Spivey, all of LaGrange, Nadine and Mike Moore of Jeffersonville, Mary Lou and Mike Parsons of Cochran, and Susan Ross of West Point; six brothers and four sisters - in - law, John D. Parmer of Wedowee, Ala., Billy Joe and Coleen Parmer of Lincolnton, N.C., The Rev. Gerald Parmer of Jasper, Ala., William Earl and Barbara Parmer of Joshua, Texas, Hollis and Ann Parmer of Pine Mountain, and Reuben and Joyce Parmer of LaGrange. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charlie Lee Brown.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 27 in the Hunter - Allen - Myhand Chapel with the Revs. Lamar Womack and Roland Cross officiating.
The family will be at the home of his daughter, Diann Phillips, 2823 Bartley Road and will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Ridgewood Manor Nursing Home (choir fund), 1110 Burleyson Drive, Dalton, Ga. 30720 - 2509 Attn: Jean Cloer.

Danny E. Brown Sr.
Danny Edward Brown Sr., 70, of Silverado Canyon, Calif., formerly of LaGrange, died Monday, July 22 at St. Joseph Hospital, Orange, Calif.
Mr. Brown was born Aug. 10, 1931, in Brooklet, Ga. He spent his young years growing up in LaGrange. Mr. Brown was the son of the late M.S. Brown and Ethel Whitley Brown. He was active in the sports program of Callaway Education Association. Mr. Dexter Shuford was a person he looked up to and admired all of his life.
At the age of 16, Mr. Brown joined the United States Marine Corp, served in the Korean War. He retired from the Orange Unified School District.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Antle Brown; two daughters, Velvie Smith and Dana Brown; two sons, Danny Brown Jr. and Randy Brown; 10 grandchildren; and a great - granddaughter, all of California; two sisters and their husbands, Joyce and Billy Pope of LaGrange and Velvie and Larry Foulks of Kimberling City, Mo.; two brothers, M.S. Brown of Tallahassee, Fla., David and Polly Brown of San Antonio, Texas; several nieces and nephews; local relatives include three nieces and their husbands, Pam and Dennis Cavender, Kathy and Tommy Hale, Debbie and Cory Gouchenour; and a nephew, William Thomas.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the American Lung Association, Marine Corp League of LaGrange or to a needy child.

Mr. James 'Reggie' Thompson Sr., of Mountville, died Thursday at West Georgia Medical Center.

W.L. Clifton
W.L. Clifton, 81, of 1144 Hines Road, died Wednesday at Hospice LaGrange.
Mr. Clifton, born May 27, 1921, in Troup County, was a United States Navy veteran of World War II and had lived in the Atlanta area for many years before returning to Troup County in 1986.
Mr. Clifton retired from French's Ice Cream Company in Atlanta and was a member of Calvary Family Workship Center in Mountville.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Peoples Clifton of LaGrange; two daughters, Linda Williams of Cantonment, Fla., and Libbie Dennard of Locust Grove; two sons, Greg Clifton of Milton, Fla., and Jimmy Clifton of Pensacola, Fla.; two step - daughters, Barbara Ann Norris of Forest Park and Glenda Faye Johnson of Stone Mountain; a step - son, Robert David Childree of Mesa, Ariz.; a sister, Dorothy Baker of LaGrange; 23 grandchildren; and a number of great - grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home. The Rev. Carl Knowles will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in Sherwood Memorial Park in Jonesboro.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9.

Willie G. Capers
Willie Gene Capers, 56, of 412 McCosh Mill Road in Glenn, died July 21 at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Capers, born May 29, 1946 in Troup County, was the son of Mrs. Aggie Ruth Capers and the late Buster Capers. He was a retired maintenance worker and a member of Stateline Baptist Church. He attended the Mary Johnson High School in Franklin.
Survivors include a precious loving mother of Glenn; five sisters and their spouses, Rubie Mae and Earnest Freeman, Fannie Ruth Capers, Estelle and Roy Cato, Rosemary Hollingsworth, Janice Marie and Fermin Reyes, all of LaGrange; a brother, Jerry Lee Capers of Glenn; six nieces and a spouse, Veronica Shepard, Charlene Freeman, Sandra Williams, Crystal and Cricket Thomas, Daphne Cato, and Abria Reyes; a nephew, Dewayne Hollingsworth; a sister by choice, Mozel Reid, and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 26 at Stateline Baptist Church in Glenn. The Revs. Ollie Simpson and W.T. Edmondson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the residence of his mother at 412 McCosh Mill Road.
The family will receive friends at Lakes - Dunson - Robertson Funeral Home tonight from 7 to 9.

Capt. Leon A. Graves
Captain Leon Adelbert Graves, retired, 82, of 1222 Lower Glass Bridge Road, died Saturday at Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville, Ga.
Capt. Graves, born September 9, 1919, in Chelmsford, Mass., was the son of the late Adelbert and Vesta Lillian Etheridge Graves. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired with over 21 years of active service.
Capt. Graves was a prisoner of war during World War II and was captured while defending Wake Island. As a prisoner, he was beaten, worked long hard hours, fed little food, and suffered psychologically while being force to work as a slave labor in the steel mills in Japan and China.
Capt. Graves was a prisoner of war for 45 months and was freed September 6, 1945. He received a citation from President Franklin D. Roosevelt which said, 'The courageous conduct of the officers and men of these units, who defended Wake Island against an overwhelming superiority of enemy air, sea and land attacks from December 8 to 22, 1941, has been noted with admiration by their fellow countrymen and the civilized world, and will not be forgotten so long as gallantry and heroism are respected and honored. These units are commended for their devotion to duty and splendid conduct at their battle stations under most adverse conditions. With limited defensive means against attacks in great force, they manned their shore installations and flew their aircraft so well that five enemy warships were either sunk or severely damaged, many hostile planes shot down, and an unknown number of land troops destroyed.'
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Graves of LaGrange; two daughters, Jackie Griel of Spring Hill, Fla. and Pam Graves of Des Moines, Iowa; two sons, Ronald Graves of Atlanta and Don Knight of Jonesboro; eight grandchildren; and three great - grandchildren.
Funeral services with full military honors will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Striffler - Hamby Mortuary chapel. Burial will be in Reed's Chapel Church Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Smith will officiate.
Visitation will be this evening from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Striffler - Hamby - Mortuary, 1010 Mooty Bridge Road is in charge of arrangements.

Guy Johnston III
Guy Johnston III, 56, of LaGrange ended a brave and lengthy battle with prostate cancer on July 19.
Mr. Johnston was born to Claude Guyton Jr. and Sara Felts Johnston on March 21, 1946, in Richland, Ga.
He attended Gordon Military school, Georgia Military College and graduated from Georgia Southwestern State University with a bachelor's degree in business administration and finance. He was a four year Navy veteran of the Vietnam era.
Mr. Johnston married his high school sweetheart, Terri Clark, on June 29, 1968, a heavenly union made forever, an earthly union lasting 34 years.
He moved his family to LaGrange in 1974 as personnel manager with Milliken and Company, Valway and Pine Mountain Plants. Mr. Johnston served as employment and personnel manager at Duracell from 1980 until 1986, when he and his wife developed the first of four businesses, including Memories Unlimited and Gallery on the Square.
A staunch supporter of the community's cultural growth, Mr. Johnston was involved with the Chattahoochee Valley Art Museum, LaGrange Artist's Guild, LaGrange Symphony, Troup County Historical Society, and the Loyal Order of the Tartan. He co - founded the West Point Lake Sailing Club and developed the LaGrange College Sailing Program, acting as instructor for 15 years.
Survivors include his wife, Terri; a son, Guy; two grandchildren, Ben, age 7 and Sara, age 4; a brother, Jim Johnston of Richland; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in the Ida Cason Callaway Chapel of First Baptist Church on the Square, Saturday, July 27 at 3 p.m. A 'Celebration of Life'. A reception will immediately follow at Gallery on the Square.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to First Baptist Church on the Square the Guy Johnston Prostate Cancer Fund in memory of Mr. Johnston.
