Mrs. Jessie Ward
Mrs. Teresa Jessie Phillips Ward of 1514 Brownwood Avenue died Tuesday at her home.
Mrs. Ward, born in Troup County, was the daughter of the late Carl Phillips and Laura Cameron McFarland. She was a former member of Rising Grove Baptist Church where she was an active member of the senior choir. She was secretary of the First District general meeting of the Western Union Baptist Association for many years. She was a member of Courts of Praise.
Survivors include two sons, R.L. Jr. and Gwendolyn Ward and Gary K. and Mary Ward, all of LaGrange; a daughter, Cynthia and Victor Hill of Atlanta; a stepson, Clayton Lipston of Atlanta; 10 grandchildren, three step - grandchildren, five great - grandchildren; a brother, Fletcher McFarland of Cincinnati, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. W.L. Cofield, of LaGrange; one god sister, Mrs. Olga Hill of LaGrange; three sisters - in - law, Mrs. Mattie Ruth Cofield, Mrs. Beauty E. Cameron both of LaGrange and Mrs. Lucille McFarland of Cleveland, Ohio; an aunt, Mrs. Maria Grant of LaGrange; and a very special caretaker, Roy C. Logan of LaGrange; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 3 pm. Sunday at Courts of Praise Christian Center at 1904 Hamilton Road with Dr. Stephen Duke officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
The family will be at the home of her son and daughter - in - law, R.L. and Gwendolyn Ward, at 110 Ivy Court.
Lakes - Dunson - Robertson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mabel O. Brooks
Mrs. Mabel Odell Brooks, 94, of LaGrange died Wednesday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Brooks, born November 27, 1907, in Randolph County, Ala., was the daughter of the late Paul E. and Mary E. Fullilove Williams. She was a member of First Christian Church and taught sewing for Singer Sewing Machine Company. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Joe Alton Brooks, and a daughter, Mary Alice Brooks.
Survivors include a daughter and son - in - law, June and David Ewing of Americus; a son and daughter - in - law, Billy Joe and Betty Brooks of LaGrange; five grandchildren, Greg Brooks of LaGrange, Ricky Brooks of Sharpsburg, Lisa Benefield of Huntersville, N.C., Sherryl Lane of Duluth, and David Brad Ewing of Huntsville, Ala.; eight great - grandchildren; a sister, Flonnie Robinson, of Roanoke, Ala.; three brothers, Robert Williams and Harold Williams, both of Roanoke, Ala., and Ernest Williams of West Point.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 pm. in the chapel of Striffler - Hamby Mortuary with the Rev. Bob Moore officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
Striffler - Hamby Mortuary at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Marietta Whitley
Mrs. Marietta C. (Miss Jennie) Whitley, 68, of LaGrange, died Wednesday at Emory University Hospital in Decatur.
Mrs. Whitley, born October 3, 1934, in Troup County, was the daughter of the late Thomas Lee Sr. and Minnie Lee Boyles Cotton. She had lived here all her life and retired from the Lanett Mill of West Point Stevens. She attended Cross Road Fellowship Church in West Point.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Dottie and Thomas Henson of LaGrange, Carolyn W. Foster of West Point; Jack and Peggy Whitley of LaGrange, Anne and Nick Simpson of Bonita Springs, Fla., Charletta (Cricket) Whitley of LaGrange and T.J. and Casey Beegle of LaGrange; 15 grandchildren, 34 great - grandchildren; a sister, Frances Louise Cotton of LaGrange; four brothers and sisters - in - law, William G. and Erma Cotton of West Point, Thomas H. Sr. and Peggy Cotton of LaGrange, Franklin L. and Diane Cotton of LaGrange and James A. Cotton Sr. of Alabama; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, C.L. Whitley Jr.; a daughter, Charlene (Punkin) Beegle; a great - grandchild, Gunner Hancock; two brothers, Thomas Lee Cotton Jr. and George A. Cotton.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cross Road Fellowship Church in West Point with Pastor Charles Greathouse officiating. Burial will be in Gray Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service.
The family will at the home of her daughter and son - in - law, Dottie and Thomas Henson. The family will receive friends this evening from 7 until 9 at Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home.

Thomas Martin
Thomas Dozier Martin, 65, of Brooks, formerly of LaGrange, died Thursday at his home.
Mr. Martin, born April 4, 1937, was the son of the late Raymond William and Sarepta Dozier Martin. He was a 1955 graduate of LaGrange High School where he was voted Mr. LHS and a 1960 graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology earning a degree in industrial management. He was a retired real estate broker and was an Army Reserve veteran. He was active in Ducks Unlimited.
Survivors include his former wife, Barbara Martin of Atlanta; cousins, Eb Dozier of Tucson, Ariz., and Mary Martin Davis Brown of Decatur.
Graveside services will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Shadowlawn cemetery with the Rev. Helen Henry officiating.
The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday at Striffler - Hamby Mortuary. A reception will be at the home of Bruce and Jo Crawford at 187 Bass Road in Hogansville following the service.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Home Instead Senior Care, P.O. Box 194, Fayetteville, Ga. 30214.

Mrs. Christine Chivers
Mrs Christine Huguley Chivers, 79, of West Point died Thursday at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley, Ala.
Mrs. Chivers, born February 12, 1923, in Chambers County, Ala., was the daughter of the late Colonel Sr. and Tessie Cofield Huguley. She was a member of the West Point Women's Civic League and St. John Baptist Church where she was a member of the senior choir an missionary society.
Survivors include two daughters and sons - in - law, Tina and Charles Jackson of LaGrange and Bernice and R.L. Atkinson of Atlanta; two sons and daughters - in - law, Charlie and Linda Chivers of Valley, Ala., and Larry and Andrea Chivers of Riverdale; three grandchildren, Kenzil Jackson of Lawrenceville, Va., Kristie J. and Shun Stargill of Jonesboro, and Larredrea Chivers of Riverdale; three nieces; and a number of great - nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie F. Chivers Sr.
Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday at St, John Baptist Church in Lanett, Ala., with the Rev. W.L. Darden officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Clara E. Givorns
Mrs. Clara Elizabeth Givorns, 92, of McDonough, died Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harriette Mitchell.
Mrs. Givorns, born June 29, 1910 in Talladega, Ala., was the daughter of the late Fred J. and Emily McDonald Boatner. She had made her home in the Atlanta area for the last 30 years having been a former resident of LaGrange.
She was a member of the Jonesboro Church of God and was a former employee of Callaway Mills Company.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Harriette Mitchell of McDonough, Mrs. Eve Burnette of Hiram and Mrs. Helen Robinette of Biloxi, Miss.; 12 grandchildren, 12 great - grandchildren, 22 great, great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Freeman of Gay and Mrs. Inez Childs of Decatur, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hunter - Allen - Myhand Chapel with the Rev. Elvis Hester officiating. Burial will be in Hillview East Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday afternoon from 1 until 2.
Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Martha E. Smith
Mrs. Martha Ella (Jonnie) Smith, 87, of LaGrange, died Monday at Hospice LaGrange.
Mrs. Smith, born February 21, 1915 in Randolph County, Ala., was the daughter of the late Anderson and Martha Ella Goodson Butler. She was a retired spinner from Callaway Mills after 35 years of service.
Survivors include three daughters and a son - in - law, Eva Jane Brown of LaGrange, Charlotte and James 'Billy' Tucker of Pine Mountain and Sybil Nauss of Hogansville; two sons, Frank Smith and Gerald Smith, both of LaGrange; a sister, Sybil Sellers of LaGrange; a brother, Fred Butler of Anniston, Ala.; 10 grandchildren, 11 great - grandchildren, one great, great grandchildren and special friends, the Rev. Jimmy and Mrs. Robbie Pruitt of LaGrange. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Grady Smith; two sons, Jack Smith and Paul Smith, and a grandson, Herman Bowen.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Shadowlawn cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Pruitt officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday afternoon from 2 until the funeral hour of 4.

Jimmy Staley
James E. (Jimmy) Staley, 67, of Hogansville, died Tuesday at his home.
Mr. Staley, born November 11, 1934 in Grantville, had lived most of his life in Hogansville. He attended Hogansville High School, was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Austell, and was a retired photographer.
Survivors include a daughter and son - in - law, Ginger and Jeff Wallace of Austell; his mother, Rubye Staley of Union City; five sisters and their husbands, Adell and Bob Kerr of Inman, Grace Whittier of Hawkinsville, Polly DeLoach of Perry, Peggy and Randy Harris, and Linda Hill, all of Hogansville; two brothers and sisters - in - law, Tommy and Pat Staley of Tyrone and Mike and June Staley of St. Cloud, Fla., and two grandchildren, Colton Wallace and Chase Wallace, both of Austell. He was preceded in death by his father, James A. Staley and a brother, Ronald A. Staley.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home. The Rev. Bob Kerr will officiate and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 this evening.

Miss Leslie Michelle Stewart, 3, of 1210 Elm Street, died Monday at her home.
Miss Stewart, born, November 9, 1998 in LaGrange, was the daughter of Elaine Stewart and Robert Lee Champion Jr. of LaGrange.
Survivors in addition to her parents include two sisters, Skyler Champion and Cheyenne Champion, both of LaGrange; her father, Freddie Stewart of Alabama; her grandparents, Eddie and Judy Rachalla of Pine Mountain, Kenneth Poole of Columbus, Robert Lee Champion Sr. of LaGrange and Dianne and Gene Edwards of Roanoke, Ala.; great - grandparents, Cornelia Griswold of Pine Mountain, Bessie Poole of Columbus and Woodrow Terry of Texas; several aunts and uncles, Tina Robinson, T.J. Robinson, Daniel Champion, Grace Rachalla, Angie Champion, Janie Edwards, Kevin Edwards, Gary Edwards, Ben Edwards and Gene W. Edwards Jr., and cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hunter - Allen - Myhand Chapel with the Rev. Billy McCollough officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of Betty and William Champion at 1062 Youngs Mill Road, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 9 this evening.
Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
