Marjorie H. Myers
Mrs. Marjorie Hagan Myers, 75, of LaGrange died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Myers, born Aug. 12, 1927, in Huntington, W.Va., was the daughter of the late Richard E. and Beulah Hagan. She was a member of St. Marks Episcopal Church where she was a former member of the Altar Guild. She was a longtime volunteer with the American Red Cross.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. A. Chuck Myers of LaGrange; two sons, Richard H. Myers of LaGrange and Michael H. Myers of Albany; four grandchildren, Justin A. Myers and M. Ryan Myers, both of Albany and Trevor Myers and Paige Woody, both of LaGrange.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, at St. Mark’s Episcopal church with the Rev. Lori Lowe officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Red Cross, 234 Main St., LaGrange, Ga., 30240.
Striffler - Hamby Mortuary at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Joyce Knight
Mrs. Mary Joyce Veal Knight, 64, of 152 North Lake Drive died Sunday at Hospice LaGrange.
Mrs. Knight, born Jan. 28, 1939, in LaGrange, was the daughter of the late John Willie and Evelyn Prince Veal. She had lived here most of her life and retired from Central Supply at West Georgia Medical Center. She was a member of Westside Church of God.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons - in - law, Lynn and Bruce Steele of LaGrange, Lisa and Stanley Bennett of Dublin and Linda Safford of LaGrange; a sister, Hilda Carter of LaGrange; a brother and sister - in - law, Earnest and Shirley Veal of LaGrange; seven grandchildren, Anthony Steele, and Melanie Self, both of LaGrange, April Bennett. Stan Bennett and Mandee Bennett all of Dublin, and Nikki Sledge and Kassie Sledge, both of LaGrange; two great - grandchildren, Alexis Self and Tyler Self, both of LaGrange; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy J. Knight.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Hunter - Allen Myhand chapel with the Rev. E.L. Addis officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at her home and will receive friends this evening at the funeral home from 7 until 9.
Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may make contributions to the Kidney Foundation.

Peggy Strong Horton
Mrs. Peggy Ann Strong Horton, 55, of 3 Sirrene St., formerly of Ypsilanti, Mich., died Saturday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Horton, born Feb. 7, 1948, in Troup County, was the daughter of Thelma Ann Strong of LaGrange and the late Lonnie Nolan Strong and was reared by her late grandparents, Frank and Mary Ann Strong. She was a graduate of East Depot High School and a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She was employed as a cab radio dispatcher in Ypsilanti and at Friendly Cab in LaGrange.
Survivors in addition to her mother, include two sisters, Charlie Mae Ector McLaughlin and JoAnne Ector Thomas; a brother, Jimmy and Mary Ann Ector, all of LaGrange; a niece, Jordan Ector; a great niece, Noliyanna Ector; two nephews, Nolan Christopher and Miles Ector; special friends, Carrie and Harvey Lee Davis; and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Baptist Church at 250 Union St., with the Rev. W.T. Edmondson officiating Burial will be in Eastview cemetery.
The family will be at her home.
Lakes - Dunson - Robertson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Richard D. Heard
Richard D. Heard, 39, died Saturday at Embracing Care Hospice.
Mr. Heard, born in Troup County, was the son of the late Lonnie G. and Margaret Heard. He was a member of Leete Hill United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three brothers, Jessie Heard, Lonnie Heard Jr. and Antonia Heard, all of LaGrange; three sisters, Deborah Heard of Norcross and Jacqueline Heard and Lakisha Heard, both of LaGrange; and several aunts, uncles and other relatives.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Confidence Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Stan Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of his aunt, Mary Tucker at 734 Ridley Ave.
West Georgia Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

James A. Swint Jr.
James A. Swint Jr., 82, of Harlem died Friday at University Hospital in Augusta.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, March 17 at Bethany Baptist Church cemetery in Pine Mountain with the Rev. Randall Whitaker officiating.
Mr. Swint, a native of Chipley, had retired from Civil Service at Fort Gordon as a telephone maintenance installer. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the Adult Men’s School Class and a member of Powell Baptist Church.
The family said, “He loved his family, his garden, hunting, fishing and traveling. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great - grandfather. He will be missed by his family and many friends. He was a wonderful Christian influence on all of his family. He was a giver of his time and a help for others.”
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathleen (Kitty) Swint; one daughter and son - in - law, Libby and Carl Hargrove of Augusta; three grandchildren, Trey Hargrove, Beth Cramer and Todd Hargrove; three great - grandchildren, John Thomas, Elizabeth Cramer and Caitlin Hargove; one sister, Alice Swint Mullins of Pine Mountain; and a good friend, Billy Neal.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorials in memory of James Swint, c/o Powell Baptist Church, 1577 Old Appling Harlem Highway, Harlem, Ga. 30814.

John Henry (Buck) Broome
John Henry (Buck) Broome, formerly of LaGrange, died Thursday in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Mr. Broome is survived locally by his sister, Annie Laura Burton of LaGrange.
The funeral service and interment will be Tuesday in Brooklyn.
Grace Funeral Chapel at 607 N. Conduit Boulevard in Brooklyn is in charge of arrangements.

Velma Cornelia Godwin
Velma Cornelia Godwin, 77, of Quitman died Saturday, March 15 at Brooks County Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Brooks County, she was the daughter of Rubin and Blanche Simpson Mitchell. She was a retired seamstress for Weeks Textile, a member of the Forever Young Club, a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class and a member of Quitman First Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Lawana (Jack) Elliott of Barney and Edwina (Jay) Simpson of Dixie; two sons, Maurice (Betty Jean) Godwin of Port St. Joe, Fla., and Wayne (Beth) Godwin of LaGrange; nine grandchildren, April Godwin Cook, Mandy Godwin Nolen, Mark Godwin, Scott Godwin, Ben Elliott, Taylor Elliott, Matt Simpson, Brittany Simpson and McKenzie Simpson; 10 great - grandchildren; four sisters, Louise Hilton of Lake Wales, Fla., Estelle Thornhill of Barwick, Dorothy Williams of Barney and Rosalyn LaBove of Barney; and one brother, R.J. Mitchell of Quitman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Godwin, a granddaughter, Nancy Beth Godwin, and a sister, Ola Lee Jones.
Funeral services swill be at 3 p.m. Monday at Quitman First Baptist Church with the Rev. Loren Hildebrant officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Mrs. Godwin’s home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Relay for Life, 470 BCT Gin Road, Quitman, Ga., 31643.

Adell Dollar
Adell (Foots) Dollar, 72, of 624 Arthur St., died Thursday at Hospice LaGrange.
Mr. Dollar, born July 1, 1930, in Fulton County, was the son of the late Adell Sr. and Lurene Ware Dollar. He was a member of New Beginnings Baptist Church and was retired. He had been a custodian at LaGrange College and LaGrange High School.
Survivors include his children, Jerry Cofield and Eva Evans, both of LaGrange; the children he reared, Bryan Patterson, Jeremiah Patterson and Demetrius Patterson, all of LaGrange; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Maddox of LaGrange and Martha Jean Dollar of Atlanta; a brother - in - law, John Maddox of LaGrange; two sisters - in - law, Josie Dollar of LaGrange and Norma Dollar of Atlanta; two cousins, Tommie Williams Jr. and Ruby Bufford of LaGrange; a close friend, Zelma Cofield; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Annette Dollar and two brothers, Zelma Dollar and Dock Dollar.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at New Beginnings Baptist Church on Ware Street with the Rev. William Harris officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
The family will be at his home and at the home of his sister and brother - in - law, Virginia and John Maddox at 1002 Troup St.

Richard K. Shiver
The Rev. Richard K. Shiver, 62, of LaGrange died Friday, March 14, 2003, at Hospice LaGrange.
Rev. Shiver, born Feb. 19, 1941, in Manchester, was the son of the late Charles Brinson and Lillie Mae Meadows Shiver. He was associate pastor at First Baptist Church on the Square where he was a Sunday school teacher and chairman of the board of deacons in 1990 - 1991. He was a former educator/administrator at West Georgia Technical College and a member of the Optimist Club of LaGrange, serving as local president, district lieutenant governor and governor of the Optimist Clubs of Georgia in 1978 - 1979.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Rachel Storey Shiver of LaGrange; two sons and daughters - in - law, Kenneth C. and Patricia Shiver of Carrollton and Michael A. and Becky Shiver of LaGrange; a grandson, Andrew Richard Shiver of Carrollton; a brother and sister - in - law, Dr. Charles and Toni Shiver of Augusta.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church on the Square with Dr. Paul R. Baxter and the Rev. Tom Farr officiating. Burial will be in the Manchester City Cemetery.
The family will receive friend this evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Striffler - Hamby Mortuary at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road.
Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may make donations to Hospice LaGrange or to Trinity Baptist Church, 501 Northside Drive, Carrollton, Ga., 30117, a church that was very special to him.
