Elese Traylor Hansley
Mrs. Elese Traylor Hansley died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2002, at a Coney Island Hospital in New York following a stroke at her home in Brooklyn.
Mrs. Hansley, born Dec. 27, 1926, was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Elese Traylor. She was a graduate of LaGrange College and was a counselor at Mary Baldwin College in Virginia, taught school in North Carolina and Connecticut before moving to New York City, where she was employed for several years in secretarial positions. During this time, she earned a master's degree at Columbia University Teachers College. After her marriage, she assisted her husband in the operation of his business, Hansley Products, for the rest of her life.
Survivors include her husband, Warren L. Hansley of Brooklyn, N.Y., a brother, H. Grady Traylor of LaGrange; six nephews, Kevin Hansley of New Canaan, Conn., Lawrence Hansley of Vista, Calif.; the Rev. Charles R. Traylor of Lasalle, Colo., Mark A. Traylor of Woodbridge, Va., William Randolph Traylor of New Orleans, La., and Steven R. Traylor of Ashburn, Va.; two special friends, Susan Buckenham of Atlanta and Sarah Funderburk of LaGrange; and several local Traylor and Loyd cousins.
A private family graveside service was Saturday, March 1, in the family cemetery with the Rev. Charles Traylor officiating.
In lieu of flowers, it was her request that those desiring contribute to the church or charity of their choice.
Striffler - Hamby Mortuary at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road was in charge of arrangements.

Betty Garner
Mrs. Betty Garner, 62, of LaGrange died Thursday at her home.
Mrs. Garner, born June 2, 1940, in Troup County, was the daughter of the late Hubert and Jessie Mae Walls Runels. She was the owner - operator of a restaurant and attended Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter Janie Griffin; two grandchildren, Ashley and Amanda Griffin, all of Dallas; and two sisters, Jackie Cornelius of Savannah and Savilla Ferguson of LaGrange. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry W. Garner.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Striffler - Hamby Mortuary at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road with the Rev. Olin White officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Edward Dean Atkins
Edward Dean Atkins, 73, died Friday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Atkins, born Feb. 22, 1930, in Iva S.C., was the son of the late Samuel Horace and Delma Pilgrim Atkins. He retired from Platt Saco - Lowell and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church on the Square where he was a deacon, director of Merrymakers, member of the Men’s Bible Study and a Meals - on - Wheels volunteer.
Survivors include his wife, Lucia Atkins of LaGrange; two daughters and sons - in - law, Dyane Simmons of Jonesboro, and Marsha and the Rev. Neil W. Stich of Swainsboro; two sons and daughters - in - law, Edward and Cathy Atkins of Washington, N.C. and Scott and Wendy Atkins of Greenville; 10 grandchildren and a grandson - in - law, Stephanie and Robbie Wells of Dallas, Jonathan Stich of Atlanta, Adam Stich of Columbia, S.C., Mark Stich of Macon, Zachary Stich of Swainsboro, Mallory Atkins, Daniel Atkins, and Allison Atkins, all of Washington, N.C., Luke Atkins of LaGrange and Sara Blair Atkins, of Greenville; a sister, Louise Ham of Anderson, S.C.; a sister - in - law, Juanita Atkins of Rock Hill, S.C.; two brothers - in - law, and three sisters - in - law, Del and Barbara Gurley, Glenn and Emmie Gurley and Ann Gurley, all of Anderson., S.C.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel of First Baptist Church on the Square with Dr. Paul R. Baxter officiating. Entombment will be in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
The family will be at their home and will receive friends at Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home Sunday evening from 5 until 7.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospital Hospitality House, P.O. Box 10090, Richmond Va., 23240, or to the building fund of First Baptist Church on the Square in memory of Mr. Atkins.

Harold R. Braswell
Funeral services for Harold R. Braswell, 70, of the Rocky Mount Community in Meriwether County, will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville with the Rev. Wayne Settle officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel Baptist Church cemetery in Rocky Mount.

Mary E. Atkisson
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Atkisson of 113 Melrose Drive died Wednesday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Atkisson, born May 2, 1918, in Talladega County, Ala., was the daughter of the late Andrew Monroe and Mamie Bell Bishop Calhoun. She was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church where she was a member of the senior ladies Sunday school Class and the Golden Joy Club.
Survivors include her husband, Bert Atkisson of LaGrange; a daughter and son - in - law, Caron and Grant Screws of LaGrange; a son, James L. Atkisson of LaGrange; two granddaughters, Regan Screws of LaGrange and Deedra Hancammon of Atlanta; a grandson, Billy Atkisson of North Carolina; two sisters, Eula Mae Ford of Lincoln, Ala., and Virginia Haynes of Talladega, Ala.; and two brothers Frank Calhoun of Lincoln, Ala., and Jimmy Calhoun of Pell City, Ala.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Hunter - Allen - Myhand chapel with the Revs. Anthony Hovey, Jay Knight and Udell Addison officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at her home and will receive friends this evening at the funeral home from 6 until 8.

W. Hugh Johnson
Funeral services for W. Hugh Johnson, 83, of Grantville will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville with the Revs. Darris Baker and Ellis Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery in Newnan.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday night from 7 until 9.

William L. Mitchell Sr.
William Lewis (Geech) Mitchell Sr. of the Stovall Community died Monday in Covington.
Survivors include his wife, Mable G. Mitchell; two children, William L. Mitchell Jr., and Stephanie M. Hawthorne; a daughter - in - law, Brenda J. Mitchell; a son - in - law, Ricky B. Hawthorne; three grandchildren, Lisa D. Prysock, Kristen Mitchell, and Lavoen Hawthorne; grandson - in - law, Darrius Prysock, a great - grandson, Andrew Mitchell Prysock sister - in - law, Sybil Cage; brother - in - law, Ernest Cage, goddaughter, Geovette Washington; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be at noon Saturday in the Henry Greer Family cemetery on Stovall Road with the Rev. Cortez Golphin officiating. All family and friends are asked to assemble at Wilson Chapel United Methodist Church at 9059 Stovall Road at 11 a.m.
The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity will have their Omega service this evening at 7 and the family will receive friends from 8 until 9:30 this evening at Hill’s Funeral Home in Greenville.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or to a favorite charity.

Frazier Morris
Frazier L. (Pop's) Morris, 93, of LaGrange died Tuesday at Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins.
Mr. Morris, born Jan. 4, 1910, in Chambers County, Ala., was a self - employed painter for more than 40 years and was a Methodist.
Survivors include his wife, Gassie Morris, three sons and daughters - in - law, Johnny L. and Eudonis Morris of LaGrange, Thomas Charles and Dorothy Morris of Macon, and William Morris of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two daughters and sons - in - law, Dereba and Raymond Shepard of Macon and Barbara Ann and Gene Hanlon of New Jersey; 11 grandchildren, 12 great - grandchildren, and two great - great - grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Striffler - Hamby Mortuary at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road with the Rev. Brandon Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.

Mary L. Peterson
Mrs. Mary Leanna Peterson, 97, of 421 Glenn Robertson Drive died Sunday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Peterson, born March 9, 1905, in Troup County, was the daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Lum Boyd.
Survivors include a son, Columbus Peterson of LaGrange; a daughter, Annie Ruth Thomas of Hempstead, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren, six great - grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucius Peterson.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Mt. Zion Road. with Dr. V. F. Williams officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Lakes - Dunson - Robertson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Nellie H. Ayers
Mrs. Nellie H. Ayers, 94, of Carrollton, died Tuesday.
Mrs. Ayers, born April 29, 1908, in Chambers County, Ala., was the daughter of the late Ramsey and Mae Norred Hanson. She was a homemaker and a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter - in - law, James and Joan Osborn of Carrollton; a daughter, Bette Greathouse of West Point; a stepson and daughter - in - law Mike and Laraine Ayers of Sharpsburg; 15 grandchildren, 21 great - grandchildren and seven great - great - grandchildren. She was the widow of Frank Osborn and Clayton Ayers, and was also preceded in death by daughter, Peggy Osborn, a granddaughter, Deanna Garner and seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Martin and Hightower Heritage Chapel in Carrollton with the Revs. Mike Ayers and Jerome Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 until 8.

Pharon Huntsman
Mrs. Pharon Huntsman, 60, of Milledgeville died Wednesday at her home.
Mrs. Huntsman, born Oct. 22, 1942, in Rock Mills, Ala., was the daughter of the late Durward Franklin and Bertha Clark Jacks whom she was ready to meet. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Huntsman of Milledgeville; a daughter and son - in - law, Sonja Michelle and Roy Kane of Tampa, Fla.; a son, Keith Hurley, also of Tampa; a sister and brother - in - law, Fay and Edward Morris of Hogansville; and three grandchildren Harrison Kane and Isabella Kane, both of Tampa and Keith Hurley Jr. of Hampton.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Old Pathway Baptist Church in LaGrange with Pastor Sam Mitchell officiating.
The family will receive friends at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home Friday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Dorothy Caldwell
Mrs. Dorothy Caldwell, 79, of Hogansville, died Monday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Caldwell, born Jan. 19, 1924, in Coweta County, was the daughter of the late John and Ada Todd Martin. She had lived in Hogansville most of her life, retired from International Playtex after more than 30 years of service, was a member of the Hogansville Senior Center and Highland Baptist Church where she was active in the WMU and was a Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Caldwell of Yelm, Wash. and John Caldwell of Pinole, Calif.; a sister, Vivian Carden of Newnan; a granddaughter, Jennifer Caldwell of Tempe Ariz.; and a niece, Frankie Ashmore, of Newnan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus Caldwell.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with Dr. Bob Atkins officiating. Burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening at the funeral home from 6 until 8.
