Willie Clyde Hester
Willie Clyde Hester, 67, of 67 Overbrook Drive, died Tuesday at Hospice LaGrange.
Mr. Hester, born Oct. 1, 1935, in Clay County, Ala., was the son of the late John Will and Lemma Wolfe Hester. He retired as superintendent of the city of LaGrange gas department.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Hester of LaGrange; two daughters, Teresa and John Kowacevich of Columbus and Cindy and J.T. Haire of LaGrange; a brother, Howard Hester of Ashland Ala.; two sisters, Lessie Pruitt of Acworth, and Eva Stockdale of Alexander City, Ala.; six grandchildren, Janet and Johnny Christain, Heather Kowacevich, Kristy Kowacevich, Nikki and Adrian Bell, Crystal Hartford and Todd Haire and one great - grandchild, Michael Tyler Alexander East.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Hunter - Allen - Myhand chapel with the Rev Mike Reeves officiating. Entombment will be in Shadowlawn Mausoleum
The family will be at his home and will receive friends this evening at the funeral home from 6 until 8.
Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may contribute to Hospice LaGrange in memory of Mr. Hester.

Joe Sanders
Joe Sanders, 28, of 6290 Whitesville Road Tuesday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Sanders, born August 8, 1974, in Miami, Fla., was the son of Coetha Sanders and Arthur Johnson. He was formerly employed at Ropak Corporation as a machine operator.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include two brothers, Curtis and Judy Glass of Clarksville, Tenn., and Arthur Sanders of West Point; four sisters, Teresa Ann Glass, Angela Glass, Rosa West and Jornita and Larry Turner, all of LaGrange; three half sisters, Minnie McGhee of Hamilton, Brenda and Charlie Buggs of Pine Mountain and Charlotte and Victor Crowder of LaGrange; 17 nephews; six nieces; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at William Grove Church of Deliverance in Pine Mountain with the Rev. Lewis Trammell officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Baptist Church cemetery in Pine Mountain.
The family will be at the home of his sister, Rosa West, at 510 Milam St.
Lakes - Dunson - Robertson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mattie Holley
Mattie Holley, 78, of LaGrange died Sunday at Kindred Hospital in Atlanta.
Mrs. Holley was the daughter of the late John Henry and Josephine Cato and was a member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Hogansville.
Survivors include three daughters, Flossie Harrison, Mattie Holley and Josephine Banks, all of LaGrange; a son, Henry Lee Holley of Columbus; 20 grandchildren, 20 great - grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Fannie Bell Williams and Alice C. Earl; and one brother John Henry Cato.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rocky Mount Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
A service by Mackey - Wilson - Jennings Funeral Home.

Pam W. Murphy
Pam W. Murphy, 56, of 300 Plymouth Drive died Tuesday at the Shephard Spinal Center in Atlanta.
Mrs. Murphy, born March 11, 1947, in Newport, Rhode Island, was the daughter of the late Charles and Dorothy Rodemhausen Wayne. She was employed as a medical transcriptionist at MedQuest and was formerly employed at Clark - Holder Clinic.
Survivors include her husband of 33 years, James I. Murphy; a daughter, Debbie Murphy, both of LaGrange; a brother and sister - in - law, Charles L. and Barbara H. Wayne of Chevy Chase, Md.; a sister - in - law and her husband, Vickie and Danny Shelnutt of LaGrange; her mother - in - law, Myrtle Murphy of LaGrange; three nephews, Nicholas Shelnutt of LaGrange, Leonard R. Wayne of Pasadena, Calif., and Andrew J and Florence Kao Wayne of Falls Church, Va.; and one niece, Lauren Shelnutt of LaGrange. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie Anne Murphy.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hillview East cemetery with Chaplain Max Vincent officiating.
The family will be at her home and will receive friends Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers contribution may be made to Canine Assistants, 3190 Frances Road, Alpharetta, Ga. or Shephard Spinal Center, 2020 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, Ga.

Donald E. Francis
Donald E. Francis, 78, of LaGrange, formerly of Richland Center, Wisc., died Thursday at Florence Hand Home.
Mr. Francis, born June 2, 1925, was the son of the late Jacob and Margaret Baggin Francis. He retired from Honeywell in Freeport, Ill., and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Richland Center, Wisc.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Leola Francis of LaGrange; four children and their spouses, Jim and LaVoy Walker of Fortville, Ind., Judy and Harold DeVries of Alexandria, Minn., Bob Walker and Beverly Halfhill of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Fran and Ron Cook of Pine Mountain; five grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; a brother, Lee Francis of Dubuque, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Hunter - Allen - Myhand chapel with the Rev. Max McCord officiating. Graveside service will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. in St. Matthew’s Catholic cemetery in Schullsburg, Wisc.
The family will be at the home of his daughter and son - in - law, Fran and Ron Cook at 680 Shake Rag Road in Pine Mountain and will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3 to 4 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Frances B. Yarbrough, 76, of LaGrange died Friday at West Georgia Medical Center.

Robert L. Grogan
Robert Lynnwood Grogan, 87, of 7178 Hamilton Road in Pine Mountain, died Thursday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Grogan, born Dec. 18, 1915, was the son of the late Jasper William and Ethel Wheeler Grogan. He had lived here most of his life and was self - employed at the Ole Chair Shop. He was a member of Clearview Chapel Church, where he taught Sunday school, was a former church treasurer and had sung in the church choir.
Survivors include his wife of more than 67 years, Elsie Grogan of LaGrange; two sons and daughters - in - law, Don and Frankie Grogan and Barry and Jerry Grogan, all of Pine Mountain; four grandchildren and their spouses, Donna and Mack Parrott of Shiloh, Darren and Glenda Grogan of Pine Mountain, Stephanie and Corky Bell of West Point, and Randall Grogan of Pine Mountain; and seven great - grandchildren, Trey Parrott, Brent Parrott, and Brandon Parrott, and Hannah Grogan, Ellie Grogan, and Katie Grogan and Becca Bell.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Clearview Chapel with Pastor Tim Irwin officiating. Burial will be in Meadoway Gardens.
The family will be at his home and will receive friends at Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home this evening from 6 to 8.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Clearview Chapel Building fund in memory of Mr. Grogan.

Sylvia Prather Railey
Mrs. Sylvia Prather Railey, 68, of LaGrange died Thursday at her home.
Mrs. Railey, born Nov. 12, 1934, in Lanett, Ala., was the daughter of the late William Zack and Frances Lucille Sims Collum. She was a member of Rosemont Baptist Church and retired from Filterdyne after 16 years of service.
Survivors include two sons and daughters - in - law, Phillip and Linda Prather and Perry and Cassandra Prather, all of LaGrange; three daughters and a son - in - law, Phyllis Prather Powell, Pamela Prather and Randy Reeves, and Petrina Prather Smith, all of LaGrange; fourteen grandchildren and their spouses, Crissy and Mark Peak, Christopher and April Prather, Jennifer Powell and Matthew Morman, Jessica Powell, Tiffany Powell, Nicholas Powell, Scott Reeves, Marianna Reeves, Steven Smith, Brent Banks, Brice Prather, Seth Prather, Brandy and Shane Wright, and Craig and Gina McDonald, all of LaGrange; seven great - grandchildren, Katie Peak, Abbie Peak, Courtney Prather, Sylvie Prather, Dawson Wright and Madison McDonald all of LaGrange; a sister, Lynn Foster of LaGrange, two brothers and a sister - in - law, Charles Marell and Louise Collum of LaGrange and Arnold Collum of Locust Grove. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 36 years, Edward Prather, her second husband of five years, Gene Railey, and a brother, William Z. Collum Jr.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Rosemont Baptist Church with the Revs. Max McCord, Steve Miller and Mark Peak officiating. Burial will be in Hillview East Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening at Striffler - Hamby Mortuary from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may contribute to Hospice LaGrange, 1510 Vernon Road, LaGrange, Ga., 30240, in memory of Mrs. Railey.

Peggy Ayers
Mrs. Peggy Ayers, 77, of LaGrange died Thursday.
Mrs. Ayers, born Sept. 28, 1925, in Far Rockaway, N.Y., was the daughter of the late Bert L. and Margaret E. Metzger. She had lived her for more than 50 years and retired from The Mill Store. She taught Sunday school and was a member of Southwest LaGrange Baptist Church for 45 years.
Survivors include a daughter and son - in - law, Barbara A. and Jesse M. Bookhardt of Marietta; two sons and daughters - in - law, Alan G. and Sandra B. Ayers of Jackson and David C. and Cathy J. Ayers of Flowery Branch; a brother, Bert A. Metzger of Far Rockaway, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, six great - granddaughters; a niece and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Buren Ayers Jr.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Hunter - Allen - Myhand chapel with the Revs. Fred Buchanan and John Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Harold C. Lummus Jr.
Harold Campbell Lummus Jr., 70, of LaGrange, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003.
Mr. Lummus, born Aug. 29, 1931, in Columbus, was the son of Harold Campbell Lummus Sr. and Janett Baldwin Lummus. He was a United States Army veteran and a graduate of Columbus High School, Georgia Tech and was a member of Phi Delta Theta.
He was a retired cotton gin consulting engineer, former corporate secretary, vice president of the Lummus Industries, and had retired after 36 years of service. Mr. Lummus was a charter member and co founder of Georgia/Alabama Bass Club, one of the founding members of Goodwill Industries. past member of Columbus Jaycees, a volunteer for the soap box derby, and a member of the Columbus Rotary Club and Rotary Band. He was a two term chairman of the Airport Commission, a licensed commercial pilot, member of the Civil Air Patrol, and one of the first citizen band operators in the United States and also was a Hamm Radio operator. He was a licensed contractor in California and most recently was awarded three patent’s for automatic bagging and wire tieing system for the textile industry.
He was a Boy Scout leader of Troup #1, member of Order of Arrow, and founder and organizer of Mama’s Family Favorite U Bake Pizza.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Fincher Lummus of LaGrange; two daughters, Jeanette Lummus Buffalo and son - in - law, Lee of Jasper and Leslie Lummus McDaniel and son - in - law Chuck of Columbus; a son, Harold Campbell Lummus III and daughter - in - law, Teresa of Fortson; a brother, F. Edward Lummus II and sister - in - law, Edith of Atlanta; five grandchildren, John Campbell Bragg, Charles Emory McDaniel II, William Samuel McDaniel, Miranda Lane Hamer, and Madelyn Lacy Hamer; three stepsons, Michael Ferrell Hamer, Cooper Grant Hamer of Columbus, Lane Parkman Hamer of LaGrange, and four step - grandsons. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucia Lummus Holt.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 27, 2003, at 11 a.m. at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel in Columbus with the Rev. Brandon Brooks officating. The following will serve as active pallbearers Muse Mann, Ross Burrus, Jimmy Caldwell, Leonard Revell, Jack Pintas, and Thacker Cargill.
A private burial will be in Parkhill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 - 8 p.m. at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., in Columbus.
