Mrs. Mrs. Lula “Penny” Wilson of 1003 Borton St., died this morning at her home.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Lakes - Dunson - Robertson Funeral Home.

Roberta Whitaker
Mrs. Roberta Whitaker of 406 Butler St., died Monday at A.G. Rhodes Convalescent Center in Marietta.
Mrs. Whitaker, a native of Wadley, Ala., was the daughter of the late Jimmy and Mary Elizabeth Hodnett. She was a homemaker and a member of the Golden Age Club, the Troup County Senior Citizen’s Center and Leete Hill United Methodist Church where she served on the stewardess board.
Survivors include a daughter, Juanita Ferrell of Kansas City, Mo.; four granddaughters, Wanda, Michael, Beverly and Calvinita; eight great - grandchildren and other family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Whitaker, two daughters, Racine Brewer and Virginia Allen; and two granddaughters, Carol and Phyllis.
Funeral services will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Leete Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Tompkins officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
The family will be at her home and will receive friends at Lakes - Dunson - Robertson Funeral Home this evening from 7 until 8.

William A. Cantrell
William A. “Bill” Cantrell, 66, of Grantville died Tuesday at Newnan Hospital East.
Mr. Cantrell, born Aug. 20, 1936, in Troup County, was the son of the late Sam and Mary Stone Cantrell. He was an Army paratrooper veteran and had lived in Grantville for 40 years. He was the founder and former owner of Mr. C’s Mini Mart in Grantville and was serving as a member of the Grantville City Council at the time of his death. He was a member of St. George Catholic Church in Newnan and was a 32nd degree mason, a member of Union Lodge #28, Free and Accepted Masons, and the LaGrange Shrine Club.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnne Cantrell of Grantville, two daughters and a son - in - law, Nawana Winkles of Wedowee, Ala. and Felicia and J.C. Doler of Grantville; two sons and daughters - in - law, William David and Vivian Cantrell of Whittier Calif., and Newman Randall and Sharon Cantrell of Franklin; a sister, Mary Edith Watkins of Newnan, two brothers, N. L. Cantrell of Beaufort, N.C.; and James O. Cantrell of Savannah, Tenn.; 18 grandchildren and 11 great - grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at St. George Catholic Church in Newnan with Father Austin Fogarty officiating. Burial will be in the Grantville Cemetery.
Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville is in charge of arrangements.

Jan Alton Brown
Jan Alton Brown, 67, of Franklin died Sunday at his home after a brief illness.
Mr. Brown, born Dec. 21, 1935, was the son of Varnie Cox Johnson of Roanoke. He was the owner of Brown Scrap Metal and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was Protestant and will be greatly missed.
Survivors in addition to his mother, include his wife, Patricia Adamson Brown of Franklin; a daughter, Teresa Hale of LaGrange; two sons, Roy Brown of LaGrange, and Troy Brown of Florida; two sisters, Sue Smith of Roanoke, Ala., and Marlon Rooney of Opelika, Ala., two brothers, Larry Johnson of California and John Tom Johnson of Opelika; five grandchildren and a great - grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home in Franklin with the Rev. Frank McCook officiating. Burial will be in the Adamson Family cemetery in Heard County.

Verna Fincher Veal
Mrs. Verna Fincher Veal, 80, of Roanoke, Ala., died Tuesday at her home.
Mrs. Veal, born April 20, 1923, in Randolph County, Ala., was the daughter of the late Bert L. and Leola Skipper Fincher. She was a member of Potash Church of God and had been employed with Handley Mills.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Jewell Smith and Elsie Wilson, both of Roanoke, Ala., a son Gerald Veal of LaGrange; ten grandchildren and 15 great - grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Quattlebaum Funeral Home in Roanoke, Ala., with the Revs. Billy Ray, Gary Baugh and Ken Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Potash Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 8 this evening.

Elvis E. McFarland
Elvis Eugene “Sonny Boy” McFarland, 46, of 110 Addie St., died Thursday at his home.
Mr. McFarland, born January 8, 1957, in Troup County, was the son of Maggie Bolden and the late Willie Lee Bolden. He was employed in construction and was a member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church.
Survivors in addition to his mother, include two loving sisters, Irene McFarland Wilkerson and Ethel McFarland; a brother, Jerry McFarland, all of LaGrange; a very special and devoted uncle, Virgil McFarland; three very special and devoted aunts, Lena McFarland, Lurlene Cooley and Freddie Sue McFarland, all of LaGrange; four very special nephews, Lawrence Bolden, Kenneth McFarland, Wiley Wilkerson, all of LaGrange and Stacey Daniels of Pine Mountain; four nieces, Maxine Smith of Macon, Lisa McFarland, Janice Wilkerson and Brenda McFarland, all of LaGrange; very special and close friends, Willie “Kane” Blackmon, Billy Simpson, David Cooper, Jerry Smith, Jenny Smith, Ray Cameron, Roy Cameron, Tom and Kim Cooley, Quen Thornton, Lovie Cofield, Helena Dennis, Patricia Gilbert and Breka Cofield; and numerous cousin, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church at 250 Gordon Road with the Rev. W.C. Thornton officiating.
The family will be at his home.

Frances S. Rutland
Mrs. Frances Stroud Rutland, 76, of Lanett, Ala., died Monday at the Brian Center in LaGrange.
Mrs. Rutland, born Nov. 30, 1926, in Coosa County, Ala., was the daughter of the late Obie Dee and Lillian Cantrell Stroud. She was a homemaker, was active member of Shawmut First Baptist Church in Valley, Ala., and was a volunteer with the American Red Cross and Lanett Geriatric Center.
Survivors include her husband, George Rutland of Lanett: four daughters and sons - in - law, Carol and Tom Bennett of Raleigh, N.C., Arlene and Leon Weathers and Joan and Byrd Worthy, all of Lanett, Ala., and Jane and Manuel Rodriguez of Corpus Christi, Texas; three grandchildren, Russell Worthy of Lanett, Ala., Meagan Rodriguez of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Zachary Bennett of Raleigh, N.C.; three sisters, Merrell Farmer and June Huckleberry, both of LaGrange, and Clara Gay of Roanoke, Ala., and a brother, James B. Stroud of Dadeville, Ala.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McCarthy Funeral Home in West Point with Dr. Jerome King and the Rev. Ronnie Puckett officiating. Burial will in Marseilles cemetery in West Point.
The family will receive friends this evening at the funeral home from 7 until 9.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the “Challenge to Build Fund” at Shawmut First Baptist Church or to a favorite charity in memory of Mrs. Rutland.

Donald Reed
Donald Reed, 62, of 363 Lower Long Cane Road, died May 21, 2003 at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Reed, born April 21, 1941, in Troup County, was the son of the late Cicero Sr. and Fannie Bell Ward Reed. He was a 1964 graduate of Ethel W. Kight High School where he was a track star and former employee of the Peabody manufacturing Company.
Mr. Reed was a very faithful member of the Friendship Baptist Church where he was a member of the senior choir.
Survivors include five sisters, Willie Mae Duncan, Ethel and Warner Bankston, Edith Brewer, Hattie and John Henry Jones, all of LaGrange, and Lula and Donald Gilliam of West Point; a brother, David and Sarah Reed of West Point; a sister - in - law, Mrs. Ola Mae Reed, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a special friend, Mildred Rutledge. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Ronald Reed, and brothers, John Willie Reed, and Cicero Reed Jr.; sister, Katie Mae Reed, and a brother - in - law, Eddie Brewer, and sister - in - law, Catherine Reed.
Funeral services will be at 12 noon, Monday, May 26, 2003 at Friendship Baptist Church in Gabbettville with the Rev. Bartholomew Orr. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at their home.

Mrs. Elaine Reese
Mrs. Elaine Reese, 37, of Hogansville, died in Hogansville, May 20, 2003, from injuries resulting from an automobile accident. Mrs. Reese was born to Harry and Christine Loner in 1965 in Austell. She grew up and lived most of her life in Senoia.
Mrs. Reese was a member of Tri County Baptist Church in Hogansville. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and wife who loved helping others. Even though she was battling cancer at the time of her accident, she devoted her life to her family.
Survivors include her husband, Dean Reese of Hogansville; her father, Harry Loner, sons, Tim, Anthony, and Joey Reese, all of Hogansville; daughter, Samantha Reese of Hogansville; brothers, Herbert Loner and Alvin Lee, both of Marietta; sisters, Gail Spradlin of Luthersville, Susie Gable of Grantville, Donna Gable of Atlanta; three grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2003 at Jones Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel, with the Rev. Ron Whitlock officiating. Interment will follow in Whitesburg City cemetery in Whitesburg.
Jones Funeral Home, Newnan, Ga., is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Rossie L. Brown
Mrs. Rossie Lee Brown, 91, of 971 Windwood Court, College Park, died May 21, 2003.
Mrs. Brown, born Dec. 25, 1911, in Harris County, was the daughter of the late Olind and Ida Davidson Blackmon. She retired as a employee of Ideal Cleaners and was a very faithful and dedicated member of the New Harmony C.M.E. Church.
Survivors include a devoted daughter, Arnetha Cotton Johnson of Riverdale; a devoted daughter - in - law, Helen Brown of Somerset, N.J.; three sisters, Mrs. Lillie Pearl Bailey and Mrs. Corine Moss, both of LaGrange, and Mrs. Sara Johnson of Harris County; 10 grandchildren, Yvonne and Guy Ritman of Somerset, N.J., Patricia Brown of Philadelphia, Pa., Roger and Wanda Cotton of LaGrange, James Brown Jr. of West Point, Victor Holloway of Somerville, N.J., Tommie Cotton of Savannah, Lesia Johnson and Linda Parks of Riverdale, Jessie Wayne and Katie Brown of Dallas, Texas, and Nina Cotton of LaGrange; 30 great - grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2003 at Arbor Grove Baptist Church at 200 Brown St., with the Rev. Alphonzo Simpson Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
The family will be at the residence of her grandson, Roger and Wanda Cotton at 214 Park Hill.
Lakes - Dunson - Robertson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
