FLINTSTONE, Ga. - Elizabeth Jane Spietz, mother of Anna Carson of Flintstone and a resident of Smyrna, Ga., died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998. She was 91.
Survivors also include her four sons, Aruna Spietz, Tacoma, Wash., Paul Spietz, Stuart, Fla., Donald Spietz, Smyrna, and Fred Spietz, Gallatin, Tenn.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at J. Randy Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna with minister Charles Thomas officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, 790 Hurt Road, Smyrna, GA 30082.
Visitation will be Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Agnes Ross
CHATSWORTH, Ga. - Agnes Ross died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, in an area hospital. She was 61.
Survivors include two sons, Clinton Jackson, Chatsworth and Andrew Jackson, Cookeville, Tenn.; three daughters, Virginia Brooks, Cleveland, Catherine Jones, North Carolina and Charlotte Carroll, Arkansas.
There will be no funeral services.

LaFAYETTE, Ga. - Virginia Elizabeth Ruff died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at her home.

Edward Saint
LaFAYETTE, Ga. - Edward Houston Lewis "Ed' Saint died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at his home. He was 69.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Annie Mae Saint; three daughters, Barbara Ann Welch and Betty Patricia Rogers, both of Cleveland, Tenn., Brenda Gunnells, LaFayette; three sons, Roy Edward Saint, Calhoun, Tenn., Ranny Chyrl Saint, Cleveland, Tenn., Glenn Gunnells, LaFayette; two sisters, Linda Whittenburg, Guntersville, Ala., Della Hall, Scottsboro, Ala.; two brothers, H.L. Saint and Bobby Whittenburg, both of Guntersville; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home, LaFayette, with the Rev. Melvin Bridges officiating.
Burial will be in LaFayette Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today after 6 p.m.
Lola Sampson
CHATSWORTH, Ga. - Lola Swinney Sampson died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, in an area hospital. She was 93.
She was the widow of John Sampson.
Survivors include three daughters, Annie McMahan, Cleveland, Cleo Ledford, Chatsworth, Geraldine Jennings, Ocala, Fla.; three sons, J.D. Sampson, Crandall, Ga., Winford Sampson, Dalton, Ga., Paul Sampson, Eton, Ga.; two brothers, Waymon and Clarence Swinney, both of Dalton; five half sisters, Flossie Headrick, Maudell Porter, Mamie Stinson, and Beatrice Wilkins, all of Dalton, Shelvy Groves, Chattanooga; two half brothers, Jerry Swinney, Dalton, Willard Swinney, Hammond, Ind.; and 21 grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Peeples Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred Johnson officiating.
Burial will follow in Fairy Valley Cemetery.
Visitation will be today after 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Stella Scott
CALHOUN, Ga. - Mrs. Stella H. Scott of Calhoun died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, in an area hospital. She was 89.
A native of Gordon County, Ga., she retired from Burlington Mills after 30 years, was a member of Plainville Unity Baptist Church, and was the widow of Albert F. Scott.
Survivors include one daughter, Laverne Toles, Calhoun; two sons, Max Scott, Scottsville, and Trammell Scott, Plainville; three sisters, Mary King, Cartersville, Mrs. Clyde Holsomback, Cleveland, Ohio, and Mana Self, Marietta; one brother, Mills Holsomback, Dalton; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Unity Baptist Church in Plainville with the Revs. Ralph Kinman, Ike Parker and Carl Jackson officiating.
Burial will follow in Fain cemetery in Calhoun.
The body will be at the church Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m.
The family will receive friends at the family residence on Rome Road today from noon to 4 p.m. and at Thomas Funeral Home, Calhoun, today from 6 to 9 p.m.
Jeremy Serritt
CALHOUN, Ga. - Jeremy Serritt died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, in an automobile accident. He was 16.
Services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the East Calhoun Church of God, with the Rev. Mike Gresham and the Rev. Bobby Coker officiating.
Burial will be in Haven of Rest Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 10 p.m. at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home in Calhoun.
A memorial service also will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Plainview Baptist Church near Farmville. Students and faculty of Gordon Central High School will conduct the service.
Nancy Shelton
Nancy Ruth Thornton Shelton of Rossville, Ga., died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, in a local hospital from injuries she sustained in an automobile accident. She was 48.
A lifelong resident of the North Georgia area, she was employed by Health South and was preceded in death by her father, William "Bill' Thornton.
Survivors include three daughters, Catherine Stephens and April Shelton, both of Rossville, and Valerie McDonald, Chickamauga, Ga.; her mother, Dora Thornton, Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.; a sister, Willie Jo Payne, Rossville; two brothers, Charles Thornton, Chickamauga, and Walter Thornton, Fort Oglethorpe; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
The family will receive friends today after 3 p.m. at W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, Fort Oglethorpe.
Virginia Shields
RINGGOLD, Ga. - Virginia Frances McConnell Shields died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at her home. She was 80.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ringgold, the widow of Dr. H.F. Shields, Jr.; and the mother of the late McConnell Shields.
Survivors include three sons, Harold "Buddy' Shields III, Chickamauga, Ga., Charley Shields, Acworth, Ga., and Michael Shields, Ringgold; two daughters, Virginia Forrester, Kingsport, Tenn., and Debbie Clark, Ringgold; one sister, Ruth McConnell, Chattanooga; half-brother, David McConnell, Newport, Tenn.; half-sister, Mary Scruggs, Chattanooga; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be today at 3 p.m. in Chickamauga cemetery with the Rev. Ted Verville officiating.
There will be no visitation.

CALHOUN, Ga. - James Thomas Shropshire died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, at an area hospital. He was 66.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church with the Revs. Michael Sherman, Eric Harris and other ministers officiating.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8 p.m. at the church.
Burial will be in Gordon Memorial Gardens.

Hugh Hicks
TRENTON, Ga. - Hugh Middleton Hicks of Wildwood, Ga., died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at a local hospital. He was 75.
He was retired from Clark Timber Co. of Trenton and was of the Church of God faith.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Raines Hicks; four daughters, Elizabeth Frashier, LaFayette, Rhonda Jura and Angla Dickerson, both of Wildwood, and Kathy Osborne, Trenton; three sons, Hugh J. Hicks, Chickamauga, Paul Hicks, Wildwood, and Kenneth Hicks, Trenton; a sister, Lettie Weathers, Rome; a brother, G.W. Hicks, Trenton; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home with the Rev. William Boykin and the Rev. Jack Byrum officiating.
Burial will be in Shantytown Cemetery.
