Dr. Luther J. Erwin
Dr. Luther John Erwin, a well-known Rossville, Ga., dentist for more than 55 years, died Thursday, March 25, 1999, in a local health care facility. He was 78.

Dr. Erwin, a native of Fort Payne, Ala., was a longtime resident of North Georgia. He was a member of the Third District Dental Association and a life member of the Dental Association.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a captain in the dental corps in the Philippines.

Dr. Erwin was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga, the Rossville Exchange Club and Rossville Masonic Lodge 397 F&AM.;

Survivors include his wife, Marge Stephens Erwin; two daughters, Gwen Brooks, Dallas, and Janice Simonton, Atlanta; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway.

Burial will be Monday at 12:30 p.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to "Changed Lives,' P.O. Box 100, Chattanooga, TN 37401.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lucille J. Altman
RINGGOLD, Ga. - Lucille J. "Lucy' Altman, retired after 12 years as an accountant with Orange Grove Center, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at a local hospital. She was 65.

Mrs. Altman was a Hilliard, Fla., native and a 28-year resident of the Chattanooga area. She had been an accounting director for the American Red Cross for 10 years and was a member of New Liberty Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Hiram Altman Sr.; mother, Cora H. Johnson, Hilliard; a daughter, Kaye A. McMichen, Chattanooga; two sons, Hiram Altman Jr., Wadley, Ala., and Richard C. Altman, Ringgold; brother, William H. Johnson, Hilliard; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at New Liberty Baptist Church with ministers Wayne Hamrick, Chris Altman, Danny Henson and Tyrus Chislom officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Chattanooga Chapter of the American Red Cross or to Bethel Bible Village in Chattanooga.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway.

Dr. Keyoda Hall, 41
Dr. Keyoda Hall, a North Georgia family practitioner, died Thursday, April 8, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 41.

Dr. Hall attended the University of Tennessee and Ross University Medical School. She completed her residency in family practice at UT Medical School in Memphis and was a board certified family practitioner.

She had worked in the emergency rooms of Hutcheson Medical Center in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., and Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, Ga.

Dr. Hall was a member of the American Medical Association for Family Practice and the North Georgia Medical Association. She was a physician for Olstein Hospice Health Service.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Mark W. Bookout; a daughter, Megan Bookout, Chattanooga; her parents, William L. and Lillian Hooper Hall, East Ridge; and a sister, Kimitia Hall, Chattanooga.

The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East.

Burial will be in Lomenick Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2008 Charlotte Ave., Nashville, TN 37203.

Charles Kellerhals, 78
Charles A. "Chuck' Kellerhals, who founded North Georgia Furniture Manufacturing Co. on Battlefield Parkway, died Monday, March 8, 1999, in a local health care facility. He was 78.

Mr. Kellerhals was a resident of Rossville and a longtime North Georgian. He was involved in his early years with Kellerhals' Farm Dairy. He served as a merchant seaman in World War II and was a member of the South Rossville Baptist Church and Tompkins Masonic Lodge 466 F&AM; in Fort Oglethorpe.

Survivors include two sisters, Judy Boyles, Chattanooga, and Katherine Boyles, Ringgold; a brother, Henry G. Kellerhals Sr., Harrison; several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway, with the Rev. David Pickard and the Rev. Robert L. Combs officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, Georgia Chapter, 550 Pharr Road, Atlanta, GA 30305.

The family will receive friends today from 3 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

John "Jake' Houston, 86
RINGGOLD, Ga. - John H. "Jake' Houston, who retired from Greyhound Bus Lines after 35 years with an outstanding safety record, died Wednesday, April 14, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 86.

Mr. Houston, formerly of LaFayette, was a resident of the Burning Bush community. He had lived in Chattanooga before moving to Ringgold.

He was a member of Burning Bush Baptist Church and its Gleaners Sunday School Class. He was active in the Chattanooga Chapter of the Greyhound Retirees.

Mr. Houston was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian Harper Houston.

Survivors include his wife, Bessie F. Houston; daughter, Ann Powell, Birmingham; three stepdaughters, Janet F. Sims, Carol F. Shoemaker and Karen F. Daniel, all of Ringgold; a stepson, Stephen Foster, Kingston, Tenn.; sister, Della Lomenick, LaFayette; two grandsons, Gregg Powell, Birmingham, and Jeffrey Powell, Atlanta; three great-granddaughters; 10 stepgrandchildren and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway, with the Rev. Dan Bailey and the Rev. Pat Davis officiating.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

John Haubenreich, 81
FLINTSTONE, Ga. - John Edward Haubenreich Jr., who retired in 1976 as principal at Chattanooga Valley High School, died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, in Fort Myers, Fla. He was 81.

Mr. Haubenreich was born and grew up in Dechard, Tenn. He was a 1942 graduate of the University at Tennessee at Knoxville with a B.S. degree in business education. He received a master's degree in business administration from the University of Georgia in 1958.

He started the first football, basketball, track and baseball teams at Chattanooga Valley High. The vocational building there is named after him.

He was a member of the Walker County Retired Teachers Association and a 50-year member of the Kiwanis Club of Chattanooga Valley. He had served as a Kiwanis International delegate for four years and was active in the first Kiwanis barbecue.

Mr. Haubenreich had been a member of St. Elmo Church of Christ since 1945.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Albert D. Haubenreich.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary W. Greer Haubenreich; two daughters, Mary H. Bentley, Atlanta, and Susan H. Vaughn, Memphis; a brother, Paul N. Haubenreich, Knoxville; and two grandsons.

The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East, with ministers John Cupp and Clarence Gates officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
