Walker James Simpson
FLINTSTONE, Ga. - Walker James "Jim' Simpson, a local artist best known for his limited edition historical prints and rural countryside landscapes, died Sunday, May 23, 1999. He was 58.
Many of Mr. Simpson's prints are on display at museums in Chattanooga and across the country. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Vietnam, and a member of Over-Hill Indian Nation.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Walter and Ella Blanche Simpson.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Mae Simpson; seven sons, James A. Simpson, Greenville, S.C., Clint Simpson, Chickamauga, Ga., Sam Simpson, East Ridge, Howard Langston, Flintstone, Jerry Langston, East Brainerd, and Clayton and Matthew Simpson, both of Rossville; four daughters, Bonnie Warren, Dalton, Tammy Simpson and Sandra Gasaway, both of Rossville, and Gabba Simpson, Flintstone; two sisters, Margie Raines, Chickamauga, and Wanda Knox, Rossville; and 19 grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Murray officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today after 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Howard Eugene Wilson
Howard Eugene Wilson, who with his late brother, John Henderson, was co-owner of Southern Motor Co. on Rossville Boulevard for 20 years, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, in a Rossville, Ga., nursing home.
Wilson was a native of Chattooga County and a son of the late John Martin and Emma Scoggins Wilson. He was a Baptist and a veteran of World War II, when he served in the 8th Air Force in Europe.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Joan Wilson; a daughter, Catherine Rahaim, Marietta, Ga.; three sons, Keith Wilson, Ringgold, Ga., David B. Wilson, Rossville, and Ivan H. Wilson, Chickamauga, Ga.; a sister, Bonnie L. Reed, Atlanta; and six grandchildren.
A graveside service will be today at 11 a.m. in Subligna cemetery with minister Clyde Griffith officiating.

Dovia Evelyn Self, 85
CALHOUN, Ga. - Dovia Evelyn Self, secretary at Calhoun First United Methodist Church for a number of years, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, in an area hospital. She was 85.
Mrs. Self was a member of the Calhoun Women's Club, the Arts Council, the United Methodist Women, the Historical Society and the Susanna Wesley Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dewey Self.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice Smith and Kathryn Sproull, both of Calhoun; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Calhoun First United Methodist Church with Dr. Ken Ray and the Rev. David Gravitt officiating.
Burial will be in Fain Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church.
Alexander M. Myers, 91
TRION, Ga. - Alexander McMillan Myers, who retired in 1972 as a supervisor at Riegel Textile Corp., died Monday, March 15, 1999, in an area hospital. He was 91.
Mr. Myers' retirement marked the end of 106 years of family service to the Trion Co. and Riegel Textile Corp. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club.
He was a graduate of the McCallie School in Chattanooga and the Georgia Institute of Technology. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion.
He was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Trion and served in several offices there, including junior and senior warden.
A graveside service will be today at 11 a.m. in the family plot in LaFayette City cemetery in Georgia.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Beatrice Dickerson
Beatrice Graham Dickerson of Rock Spring, Ga., died Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, at a local nursing home. He was 94.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home, South Crest Chapel.
Arrangements will be announced by Williamson & Sons Funeral Home.
Anthony Allen
CHATSWORTH, Ga. - William Anthony Allen died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998. He was 26.
Survivors include his parents, William and Evelyn Allen; a sister, Felicia Loughridge; and his grandmother, Ruby Sharp, all of Chatsworth.
Funeral services were held today at 2 p.m. at Peeples Funeral Home with the Rev. William Silvers and the Rev. James Smith officiating.
Burial was to follow in Eton Cemetery.
Ruthella Long
DECATUR, Ga. - Ruthella S. Long died recently.
She was a former resident of Dalton, Ga.
Survivors include a son, Angelo Long; sister, Vivian Sawyers; three brothers, Leon Smith and Carlton and Douglas Sawyers Jr.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Paul AME Church in Covington, Ga., with the Rev. Augusta Hall and the Rev. Katheryn Hazel officiating.
Burial will be in Westside Cemetery.
The body will be at the church Saturday at 11 a.m. and at Young Funeral Home in Covington Friday from noon to 9 p.m.

LaFAYETTE, Ga. - Lou Jean Roach Hise of Chickamauga died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, in an area hospital. She was 82.

Burial was in Old Antioch Cemetery.
Franklin Brooks
CHATSWORTH, Ga. - Franklin Henry Brooks of Hollywood, Md., formerly of Chatsworth, died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, in Maryland. He was 73.
He was the father of the late Mary Helen, Patrick and Wayne Brooks.
Survivors include his children, Frankie and David Brooks, both of Hollywood, Md., Margret Brooks, Peggy Tippett and Michael and Marvin Brooks, all of Leonardtown, Md., Walter Brooks of Mechanicsville, Md., and Mary Parker of Lexington, Md.; three sisters, Opal Davenport, Nellie Rogers and Estelle Sissons, all of Chatsworth; a brother, David Brooks of Chatsworth; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Burial will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in Mt. View Cemetery.

CALHOUN, Ga. - Fannie E. Burnett of the Plainville Community died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, in an area hospital. She was 81.
Services were today at 2 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Marvin Jackson officiating.
Burial was in Franklin Cemetery.
