Henry Mathis
ARMUCHEE - Henry Eugene Mathis died Friday, April 23, 1999, at his home. He was 85.
Mr. Mathis was a member of Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church, where he formerly served as Sunday School superintendent and as treasurer of his Sunday school class.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from the textile business in 1975 and also from farming.
Survivors include his wife, Hattie Lee King Mathis; a son, Douglas L. Mathis; brother, Herschell Mathis, and a granddaughter, all of the Sand Mountain community.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church with the Rev. L.C. Wright and the Rev. Riley Bomar officiating.
Burial will be in Little Sand Mountain Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at J.D. Hill Funeral Home in Summerville, Ga.
Tena McArthur
CRANDALL - Tena Ranae McArthur died Thursday, April 22, 1999, in an area hospital. She was 28.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Brian Keith McArthur, and a stepbrother, Steven Smith.
Survivors include two sons, Brian K. McArthur and Kevin A. McArthur; mother, Shirley Day; stepfather, Steve Smith; brother, Timothy Day, all of Chatsworth, Ga.; stepsister, Sheila Green, Oldfort, Tenn.; and two stepdaughters, Jessica and Ashley McArthur, both of Calhoun, Ga.
Services will be today at 3 p.m. at Peeples Funeral Home with the Rev. Edward Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Eton Cemetery.
James McTaggart
ROCKY FACE - James "J.B.' McTaggart died Friday, April 23, 1999, at his home. He was 60.
Mr. McTaggart was an employee of Shaw Industries and the brother of the late Jerry and Jess McTaggart.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Pangle McTaggart; two daughters, Cindy Jordan, Tunnel Hill, Ga., and Sheri Rogers, Rocky Face; two sons, Shane and Scott McTaggart, both of Rocky Face; his parents, Earnest and Eva Keener McTaggart, Tunnel Hill; a sister, Trudy Osborne, Chattanooga; three brothers, Sid McTaggart, Tunnel Hill, Jarvis McTaggart, Rocky Face, and Billy McTaggart, Ringgold, Ga.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Ponders Funeral Home with the Rev. Lloyd Guffey and other ministers officiating.
Burial will be in Dunagan Cemetery.
Visitation will be today after 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Peggy Miller
ROSSVILLE - Peggy Ann Miller died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at her home. She was 65.
She was a lifelong resident of this area and a member of Cloud Springs Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Danube Carpet Mill.
Survivors include two brothers, Charles Miller, Chattanooga, and Herman Miller, Valdosta, Ga.; a sister, Naomi Thomason, Chattanooga; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway, with Dr. Jerry Brown officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be today and Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Robert Slye
CALHOUN - Robert "Bob' Slye died Thursday, April 22, 1999, in an Atlanta hospital. He was 91.
Mr. Slye was a retired painting contractor and a member of Lebanon Methodist Church. He was a member of Resaca Lodge 724 F&AM; and the Resaca Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Williams Slye; two daughters, Betty Gilbert, Calhoun, Ga., and Ann Shock, Orlando, Fla.; a son, James L. Slye, Benson, Ariz.; sister, Gertrude Slye, Middletown, Ohio; and several grandchildren.
Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Bell officiating.
Burial will be in Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery.
James Wilson
RISING FAWN - James T. "Jimmy Tom' Wilson died Thursday, April 22, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 79.
Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home in Trenton with the Rev. Billy Wallace officiating.
Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery on Sand Mountain.
Phanoy Yarnell
ROSSVILLE - Phanoy Prestridge Yarnell died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 90.
Mrs. Yarnell was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and was a Baptist.
She had been employed as a houseparent with the Baptist Children's Home.
Survivors include a son, R.F. "Bud' Yarnell Jr., Rossville; daughter, Carolyn Firestone, Sharpsburg, Ga.; two sisters, Willis V. Smith, Rossville, and Betty Ruth Early, McDonald, Tenn.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was Friday at 2 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with the Rev. J.E. Firestone officiating.
Burial was in New McDonald Cemetery.
Dean Bryson
FORT OGLETHORPE, Ga. - Dean "Biff' Bryson died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 57.
Services will be today at 3:30 p.m. at W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Lillard Stringer officiating.
Burial will be in Woodstation cemetery in Ringgold.
Pauline Cuzzort
TRENTON, Ga. - Pauline G. Cuzzort died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 75.
She attended the Church of God and was the widow of Claude B. Cuzzort.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy R. Cuzzort, Clover, S.C., and Benny Cuzzort, Chattanooga; three sisters, Audice Merciers, Chattanooga, Patsy Rankin, Whiteside, Tenn., and Eula Weldon, Trenton, Ga.; and two brothers, Gary and Jimmy Dagnan, both of Signal Mountain.
Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Ryan Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Ford officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
