LaFAYETTE, Ga. - Roy "Curt' Shepard died Sunday, March 21, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 89.
Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home in LaFayette with Pastor Lila Clay and the Rev. Robert Patterson officiating.
Burial will be in LaFayette Memory Gardens.
Lloyd Smith
CALHOUN, Ga. - Lloyd V. Smith of Sugar Valley died recently at his home. He was 75.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, a former employee of Eastern Airlines and was retired from Lockheed Georgia.
Survivors include his wife, Madge Parsons Smith; daughter, Yvonne Cashon, Dalton; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Al Turnell officiating.
Burial will be in Fain Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
Mattie Phillips
CALHOUN, Ga. - Mattie Curtis Phillips died Saturday, March 20, 1999, in a hospital there. She was 77.
She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and the widow of Henry Phillips.
Survivors include a daughter, Dianne Curtis, Calhoun, Ga., and a sister, Etta Garlington, Detroit.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Sherman and other ministers officiating.
Burial will be in Colbert Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 8 p.m. and one hour before the service at the church.

Darlene McMichael
DALTON, Ga. - Darlene McMichael died Sunday, March 14, 1999, in an area hospital. She was 39.
Arrangements will be announced by Willis Funeral Home, Dalton.
Charles Johnston
ROCK SPRING, Ga. - Charles Edward Johnston died Sunday, March 21, 1999, in an area hospital. He was 77.
He was a 1955 graduate of Tulane University where he was inducted into Alpha Sigma Lambda. He served as an instructor at Tulane in the school of business administration. He was a retired systems analyst for the city of Chattanooga and also was manager of the data processing section of the Chattanooga Housing Authority.
He was a Calvinist and a member of Rock Spring United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita West Johnston; a son, Gregory Johnston, Fredinza, Italy; and one grandchild.
A private graveside service was held Monday at Rock Spring Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by LaFayette Funeral Home.
Alwayne Jones
CHATSWORTH, Ga. - Alwayne Bowers Jones died Sunday, March 21, 1999. She was 91.
She taught school at Murray County High School from 1935 until 1969. She directed the Glee Club for a number of years and was instrumental in starting the high school music department.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and was the choir director.
Survivors include her sisters, Geraldine B. Bailey, Americus, Ga., Verna B. Fortson, Lincolnton, Ga., Lena B. Perry, Evanston, Ill., and Betty Bowers, St. Cloud, Fla.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 5 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Chatsworth, with Dr. J. Estill Jones and the Rev. Jeff Hensley officiating.
Burial will be in Eton Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the Murray County High School choral music department.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Peeples Funeral Home.
Beatrice Haygood
NEW SALEM, Ga. - Beatrice "Bea' Haygood died Sunday, March 21, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 75.
She was the former owner of Bea's Country Hams, Bea's Country Store and B&G; Jiffway Markets.
She was the widow of Lawton Haygood Sr. and a Methodist.
Survivors include a son, Lawton Haygood Jr., New Salem; brother, Lewis Moore, New Salem; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Trenton Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Goff and the Rev. David A. Wood officiating.
Burial will be in Hawkins Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Cecil Garland
CHATSWORTH, Ga. - Cecil W. Garland died Sunday, March 21, 1999, in an Atlanta hospital. He was 73.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Garland.
Survivors include his wife, Lona Garland; four sons, Kenneth Garland, Douglasville, Ga., Ricky Garland, Chatsworth, and Jimmy and Danny Garland, Dalton; two sisters, Pauline Walker, Ellijay, Ga, and Judy Holt, Morgantown; three brothers, Howard Garland, Rome, Ga., and Ralph and Charles Garland, Ellijay; stepmother, Lula Garland, Blue Ridge, Ga.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Eleventh Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Lamar Graham and the Rev. Lloyd Guffey officiating.
Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Peeples Funeral Home.
