Mrs. Wilma Ruth Wilson
Mrs. Wilma Ruth Wilson, 83, of Newnan, Ga., died Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at LaFayette Nursing and Rehab.

She was born icon March 6, 1919 in Newnan, Ga., daughter of the late William Stallings and the late Annie (Harper) Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buell Barker Wilson.

She was a member of Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was retired from food service at Elm Street School in Newnan.

Surviving are two daughters, Pat Bernhard of Newnan, Ga. and husband Wilson, and Linda Wilson Hopkins of Greenville, S.C. and husband Gerald; half-brother, Robert Stallings of Palatka, Fla.; four grandchildren.

The family was receiving friends at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16.

A funeral was in McKoon Funeral Home Chapel 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16. Rev. Joe Strickland, Dr. Gerald Hopkins and Rev. O. C. Collins officiated. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.

Mrs. Norma Mae (Wortham) Bugg, 89, of Newnan, Ga., died Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at Fayette Community Hospital in Fayetteville, Ga.

Mrs. Bugg was born icon November 23, 1913 in Newnan. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Newnan.

Surviving is her daughter, Sarah Combes and her husband Don of Fayetteville, Ga.; grandchildren, Charles Gregory Combes, Carol Lynn Combes Hammons and her husband Andrew Keith Hammons; great-grandchild, Ryan Knight Hammons.

The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17.

A funeral will be at McKoon Funeral Home Chapel 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17. Dr. Gary Parrish will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jack Binion, Irving Jackson, Tom Marlowe and Glover Sewell.

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 33 Greenville Street, Newnn, Ga. 30263.

Mrs. Emily Johnston Penland

Mrs. Emily Johnston Penland of Decatur, Ga., died at home January 13, 2003.

Mrs. Penland was born icon December 27, 1915 in Palmetto, Ga., daughter of William Hardaway Johnston and Myrtie Givens Johnston. She grew up in Palmetto. While in high school, her family moved to Atlanta, where she graduated from Druid Hills High School. She then went on to graduate from Creighton Business College.

On October 18, 1941 she married icon Robert M. Penland Jr. to whom she was married icon for 61 years. Mrs. Penland was a homemaker and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Decatur First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Robert M. Penland Jr.; daughters, Gail Penland Tucker and her husband, James R. Tucker of Alma, Susan Penland Lee and her husband William F. Lee Jr. of Newnan; son, Robert M. Penland III and his wife, Wendy M. Penland, of Watkinsville; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Penland is also survived by a sister, Sarah Johnston Carmichael of McDonough.

Visitation was January 15 from noon to 1:20 p.m. at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur. A funeral was held in Decatur Cemetery following the visitation. Rev. Dana Overton-Garrett presided.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Hospice Atlanta, 1244 Park Vista Drive, Atlanta, Ga. 30319 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Mrs. Christine P. Williamson, 82, of Newnan, Ga., died Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at Fayette Community Hospital in Fayetteville, Ga.

She was born icon Sunday, March 28, 1920 in Hogansville, Ga. She was retired from the textile industry and attended Rotherwood Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, Jan. 16 from 6-8 p.m.

A funeral will be Friday, Jan. 17 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Jimmy Henry will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Hines, Eddie Norton, Tommy Norton, Ray Dewberry, Jerry Pannell and Bob Estep.

She was preceded in death by husband Jessie Williamson and two sons, Jimmy Cook and Donald Williamson.

Surviving are daughter Donna and John Hensman of Newnan, Ga.; daughters-in-law, Jeanette Cook of Moreland, Ga., and Sandra Williamson of Newnan, Ga.; brother, Carl and Louise Pannell of Newnan; grandchildren Jeff and Patti Hines of Newnan, Carol Williamson of Newnan and Rod Clark of Whitesburg, Ga.; eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Maxie E. Farlow, 78, of Beacon, NY, and a former long time Cold Spring, NY, resident died Sunday, January 12, 2003 in St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Newnan, Georgia October 13, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Calvin and Nancy Panola (Banks) Adams. Mrs. Farlow was a homemaker. In 1944 she was married icon to Donald R. Farlow, who died June 8, 1987. Three sisters and two brothers also preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, Kenneth A. Farlow of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Craig S. Farlow of Wappinger Falls, NY; daughter, Linda S. Anderson of Houston, Texas ; sister, Missouri Craven of Franklin, Ga.; six grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home Thursday, Jan. 16 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Loretto church, Fair St., Cold Spring. Burial will be in Cold Spring Cemetery.

Donations in Mrs. Farlow's memory may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of New York, 1250 Broadway, Suite 2001, New York, NY 10001.

Mr. Lawrence Eugene Edward "Dock" McKeever of Dodson Place, Newnan, Ga. died Saturday, January 11, 2003 at Fairburn Health Care Center in Fairburn, Ga.

A funeral will be Thursday, Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. at Powell Chapel United Methodist Church, Old Atlanta Highway in Newnan with Rev. Joe P. Geter officiating. His remains will lie in state at the church from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 7-8 p.m. On the day of the service the family will assemble at the residence at 1 p.m.

Mr. McKeever was born icon January 1, 1927 to the late Ben and Lonette McKeever. He had joined Powell Chapel United Methodist at an early age where he attended until his health began to decline. His wife Mrs. Mattie Mae Correlis McKeever died March 21, 2001.

Surviving are daughters, Ms. Cherry McKeever, Ms. Brenda McKeever of Newnan, Ga.; three sons, Mr. Willie Edward McKeever, Mr. Tommy McKeever, Mr. Charlie Alvin McKeever; two step-sons, Mr. Leroy Coleman, Mr. Johnny Coleman, all of Newnan, Ga.; twelve grandchildren, three great-grandchildren of Newnan; five sisters, Mrs. Myrtice Washington , Mrs. Vera Neal, Mrs. Cartha Parrott, Mrs. Willie Potts all of Newnan, Ga., Mrs. Joenell Domineck of Atlanta, Ga.; brother, Mr. John Alvin McKeever Sr. of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Mrs. Emma Wheeler; brother-in-law, Mr. Abe Wheeler, both of Atlanta, Ga.; and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Miss Betty Jim Owings, 78, of Newnan, Ga., died Monday, January 13, 2003 at her residence.

Miss Owings was born icon April 8, 1924 in Georgia. She was a retired school teacher and administrator, and served for a number of years as principal at Maggie Brown Elementary in Newnan before her retirement from the Coweta County School System. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Newnan and the Retired Teachers Association.

The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church in Newnan from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15.

A funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church. Dr. Gene Tyre will officiate. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Gore, Ga.

Surviving are two brothers, Henry Tolbert Owings of Resaca, Ga., and Howard L. and Virginia Owings of Gore, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Helen Owings Manis of Rome, Ga.

Miss Evans was born icon April 17, 1913 in Coweta County. She was a member of Moreland United Methodist Church.

A funeral will be Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Richard Huycke will officiate, burial will be in Southview Cemetery on Harris Street in Moreland.

Mr. Donald W. Rainey, 58, of Grantville, Ga., died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 at his home.

A funeral was 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 at Westside Baptist Church in Newnan. The Rev. Richard Huycke and Dr. Melvin Payne officiated, and burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.

Mr. Rainey was born icon September 17, 1944 in Coweta County, son of the late Thomas and Annie Will Jackson Rainey. He was a lifelong resident of Coweta County, was a retired building contractor, and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Mr. Rainey enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and sharing his talent for woodworking with others.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Loyce Banks Rainey of Grantville; three daughters and their husbands, Tammy and Ricky Ayers, Renee and Scott Ward, and Donna Rainey, all of Grantville; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise and Jerry Masdon of Peachtree City, Frances and Art Newton of Roswell, Ginny and Bill Satterfield of Gainesville, Ruth and Jim Singleton of Rockmart, and Edna and Calvin Childers of Sandy Springs; five grandchildren, Kyle Ward, Sidney Ward, Dalton Ayers, Rainey Ayers and Natalie Rainey.

Mrs. Billie Ledbetter Vanzant, 68, of Newnan, Ga., died Monday, January 13, 2003 at her home.

A son, Mason Garrett Vanzant III preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, Keith Hugh Vic of Hapeville; daughters, Deronna Wright of Newnan, Lujan Biddy of Abbyville, Rosalind Jacobs of Jackson, Candi Jones of Forest Park; sister, Ezelle Thrower of Tallapoosa; 9 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A funeral will be Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Higgins at Holly Hill Funeral Home in Fairburn. Rev. Jack King will officiate. Burial will be at Holly Hill Memorial Park.

Mr. Travis Lane Burton

Mr. Travis Lane Burton, 17, of Franklin, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, from injuries sustained in a car accident.

Mr. Burton was born icon in Anderson County, S.C., the son of Barbara Joann Burton Bates. He was a popular student at Heard County Comprehensive High School, where he was to graduate this year. He was a member of the Art Club and a Master of combat karate at Keith's Karate in LaGrange. Mr. Burton was a loving son, brother, and friend and will be greatly missed.

A funeral will be held Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home in Franklin. The Rev. Jim Chesnut will officiate, and burial will be in the Heard County Memorial Gardens.

Surviving are his mother and step-father, Joann and Ronald Bates; and brother Cody Bates, all of Franklin; aunts and uncles Brenda and Steve Heard of Franklin, Gerald and Sue Burton of LaFrance, S.C., and Larry Burton of Easley, S.C., and a host of friends.

Mr. David "Bud" Johns

Mr. David D. Johns, 68, of Grantville, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at Hospice LaGrange.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. today in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend David Puckett will officiate and Interment will be in the Pitts Cemetery in Coweta County.

Mr. Johns was born icon Dec. 11, 1934, in Floyd County, son of Mrs. Lula Belle Kennedy Johns of Grantville and the late Floyd Johns. He was an Army veteran, was a member of the Baptist church, and he was a retired textile employee.

In addition to his mother, survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Jackie Dennis and Amy and Brad Jarrell, all of Grantville; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Susan Johns of Franklin; two sisters, Ella Mae Wadsworth of Franklin and Mary Ann Hall of Grantville; two brothers, Billy Johns of Grantville and Gary Johns of Lone Oak; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Irene Arrington, 60, of Franklin, Ga., died Thursday, January 9, 2003 at her home after several years of declining health.

Mrs. Arrington was born icon in Heard County, Ga. November 6, 1942 to Ruby Abner Arrington and the late Rufus Lance Arrington. She was a housewife and loving mother, and a member of the Primrose Baptist Church in Luthersville, Ga.

A funeral will be Saturday, Jan. 11 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home in Franklin, Ga. Burial will be in the Franklin City Cemetery. The family was receiving friends at the funeral home Friday from 7-9 p.m.

Surviving are her two sons, Christopher Jansmann of Franklin, Ga., and Timothy Bridgette of Corinth, Ga.; mother, Ruby Abner Arrington of Franklin, Ga.; five sisters, Ruth Jackson of Grantville, Ga., Jeanette Mashburn of Franklin, Ga., Margaret Addison of Franklin, Ga., Carolyn Gann of Hogansville, Ga. and Linda Lester of LaGrange, Ga.; brother, Junior Arrington of Franklin, Ga.; three grandchildren.
