Mr. Shannon D. Terrell

Mr. Shannon D. Terrell, 31, died Tuesday, December 31, 2002 of injuries in a car accident.

A funeral will be Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at 2:30 p.m. at Sellers-Smith R. W. S. Memorial Chapel with Pastor Larry Warner, eulogist, assisted by Rev. Frank Dean, Rev. W. J. Johnson, Rev. Kenneth Johnson and Brother Eugene Godfrey. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be co-workers from McWaters and Son and friends. Cousins will serve as flower bearers.

The family will assemble on the day of the service at the residence at 1:45 p.m.

Mr. Terrell was born May 28, 1971, in Coweta County, Newnan, Ga. He was the last born of the late Charlie J. Terrell and Dorothy D. Arnold Terrell.

He joined the Heard Wesley United Methodist Church at an early age. His employment was with McWaters and Son. Shannon is remembered as a hardworking, loving person. There was nothing Shannon would not do for anyone. He was loved by many.

Surviving are his mother, Dorothy W. Arnold Terrell; four brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Arnold (Vivian), Mr. and Mrs. Harold L. Arnold (Bessie), Mr. Michael Johnson, and Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Terrell Jr. (Willie Mae); two sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Champion (Deborah), Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Godfrey (Glinda); one uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Terrell; three aunts, Ms. Betty Benning, Ms. Hazel Benning and Cheryl Turner; a friend forever, Melonie Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Lucy Eva Thornton

Mrs. Lucy Eva Thornton, 86, of Newnan, Ga., died January 2, 2003 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan.

Mrs. Thornton was born on December 24, 1916 in Tolbert County. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Newnan. Mrs. Thornton had lived most of her life in Grantville before moving to Newnan in 1984. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Wayne Thornton.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Grantville City Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Parrish officiating.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Jan. 4, from 6-8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street in Newnan.

Surviving are a daughter, Joy Williams and her husband Herbie of Newnan; grandsons, James Williams of Newnan, Jeff Williams and his wife Beth of Newnan; granddaughter, Robin Windom and her husband Tim of Sparta, New Jersey; great-grandchildren, Alex, Daven and Katie Beth Williams of Newnan; brothers, Herbert Cooke of Jeffersonville and Millard Cooke of Manchester; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Wilson Edwin Bass
Mr. Wilson Edwin Bass, 61, of Franklin, Ga., died January 1, 2003 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. after several years of declining health.

Mr. Bass was born in Randolph County, Ala., October 10, 1941 to the late George Wilson Bass and Essie Mae Traylor Bass. He was a dye maker for the Franklin Alulminum Company until the onset of his illness. He was a vital part of the Franklin First Baptist Church and a much loved member of the community. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.

A funeral will be Friday, Jan. 3, 2003 at Franklin First Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with the Reverends Talmadge Chandler and Ronnie Jordan officiating. Burial will be in the Franklin City Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Thompson Bass; two daughters, Sandra Holtzclaw and Tammy Alford; sister, Pat Prince; six grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews, all of Franklin, Ga.

Mr. T. Robert "Bob" Brewer
Mr. T. Robert "Bob" Brewer, 69, of Grantville, died Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at his residence.

He was a retired pilot with Delta Airlines.

The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home Friday, Jan. 3, 2003 from 2-4 p.m. with a memorial service following at 4 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home. Rev. Timothy McDowell will officiate.

The family asked that flowers not be sent and memorial contributions made in his honor to your favorite charity.

Surviving are his wife, Margie Brewer of Grantville; daughter, Ginger Beckom of Grantville; son, Travis Brewer of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Tarita Hamman of Newnan; soster, Donnie Lancaster of West Memphis, AR; brother, Patrick Brewer of Helen, Ga. and six grandchildren.

Mr. Hal Butts Sr.
Mr. Hal Butts Sr., 100, of Union City, Ga., formerly of Newnan, Ga., died Tuesday evening, Dec. 31, 2002 at Kennesaw Hospital in Marietta, Ga. Mr. Butts was born in Madison, Ga. to Dr. George and Mrs. Mary Butts. A homebuilder and subdivision developer by trade, he was a member of the Loyal Order of Masons and the Elks.

Mr. Butts was preceded in death by his wife of more than 65 years at her death, Mrs. Blanche Baker Butts.

Surviving are son, Hal Butts Jr. and his wife Dianne of Marietta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Ashley Remik and Kevin Butts of Atlanta; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral at graveside will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3 at Westview Cemetery with Rev. Thomas Shannon officiating.

Mrs. Annie Dial
Mrs. Annie Dial, 94, of Welcome-Sargent Road, Newnan, Ga., died Wednsday, January 1, 2003 at Avalon Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Newnan, Ga.

Mrs. Dial was born December 2, 1908 in Newnan, daughter of Walter Osborne and Eugenia Zipporah (Talley) Dial. She was a retired textile worker and was a member of Sargent Baptist Church.

The family was receiving friends at McKoon Funeral Home Thursday, Jan. 2, from 6-8 p.m.

A funeral is Friday, Jan. 3 at 2 p.m. The Rev. R. L. Brazell will officiate. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery on Harris Street in Moreland.

Surviving are son, Charles Dial; sister, Sally Barrow; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Mrs. Marie M. Findley
Mrs. Marie Manning Findley, 87, of Grantville, Ga., died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003 at Avalon Health and Rehabilitation Center in Newnan, Ga.

A funeral will be 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2003 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville with Dr. Billy Burks officiating. Burial will be Monday, Jan. 6 at Highland Memory Gardens in Forest City, Fla.

Mrs. Findley was born June 25, 1915 in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of the late Frederick and Frances Anderson Manning. Before making her home in Grantville in 1991, she lived in Longwood, Florida for a number of years, where she served as a church organist, and was the wife of the late Harold M. Findley. Her family was the main focus of her life, and she also supported orphans through World Vision and was a supporter of Bibles for The World.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Phyllis Findley of Newnan and John and Violet Findley of Lexington, N.C.; three daughters and their husbands, Kathy Newton of Newnan, Mary Ann and Ralph Jones of San Bernadino, Calif., and Robby and Mike Barbour of Deltona, Fla.; one sister, Winnifred Frey of Harrison, Ark.; one brother, Frederick Manning of Chicago; 24 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Frederick James Findley.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Findley may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church or to Gideon International.

Mrs. Joyce Page Hand, 70, of Washington Street, LaGrange, GA, died Monday, December 30, 2002, at Hospice LaGrange.

She had lived in LaGrange all of her life. She was born July 10, 1932 in Marion County, Georgia, daughter of M. L. (Jack) Page and Mae Humphrey Page. She worked as a secretary in the trucking industry in LaGrange and retired after 10 years at GMAC and 20 years at Vaughn Transport. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday School Class. She was a graduate of the LaGrange High School Class of 1950 and a former resident of the Calumet Community.

A funeral was 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003 at Unity Baptist Church. Burial was in Riverdale Cemetery in Columbus, Ga. The Rev. Bobby Robinson officiated.

Contributions may be made to Hospice LaGrange, Unity Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.

Surviving are step-son and step-daughter-in-law, Alan and Elizabeth Hand of Marietta, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, David and Mary Hand of Newnan; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Paul Bryan of LaGrange, Ga.; grandchildren, Chris Bortolazzo, David Bortolazzo, Tyler Hand and Laura Hand, all of Newnan, Ga., Austin Bryan of LaGrange, Ga.; sister, Jean Waugh of LaGrange; brother, Bob Page of LaGrange; uncle, Col. Mr. Clay Vernon Hightower
Mr. Clay Vernon Hightower of Sharpsburg, Ga., died December 30, 2002 at Hospice Atlanta.

Born to Herbert and Lorine Hightower July 18, 1945, Mr. Hightower served in the U.S. Navy and was employed by the federal government, F.A.A., as an inspector. He was a member of New Heights Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Martha Lee Hightower; sons, John Hightower, Luke Hightower, Beau Hightower; daughter, Sarah Mae Hightower; mother, Mrs. Lorine Hightower; brothers, Dale Hightower, Ronald Hightower; sisters, Jeanette Harvil, Beba Roberts, Andra Hightower, Sandra Hightower; two grandchildren.

A funeral was Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003 at 4 p.m. at New Heights Baptist Church. Burial will be at Snow Springs Baptist Church in Adairsville, Ga. at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Ministers will be the Rev. Dwight L. Moody and the Rev. Bryan Anderson.

Mrs. Mary Will Kidd
Mrs. Mary Will Kidd, 83, of Newnan, Ga., died December 29, 2002, at her home.

Mrs. Kidd was born in Oxford, Alabama on April 6, 1919, the fourth daughter of Grace Sewell and Duard Elmer Little. She had been a Newnan resident for most of her 83 years. She was a mother, sister, friend, and tireless church and community worker. After the death of her husband, Aubrey Kidd, in 1966, she worked in a series of community organizations. She was a member of the administrative staff at the Newnan Water & Light Commission for more than 20 years. She was active in the life of Newnan Presbyterian Church where she had been a member since childhood. She was recently named Honorary Co-Chair of the 175th anniversary of Newnan Presbyterian. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends and will be remembered for many things, chief among them her cheerful and courageous spirit and her unconditional love.

A funeral was held Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Newnan Presbyterian Church with Dr. Harry Barrow officiating, following the private committal service at Oak Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that contributions be made to Newnan Presbyterian Church, 38 Greenville Street, Newnan, GA 30263.

Surviving are her daughters, Frances Kidd of Los Angeles, CA and Susan Kidd of Atlanta, GA; sisters Evolyn Jones and Grace Johnson; brother-in-law Charlie Johnson, all of Carrollton, GA; a multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, as well as a large number of "surrogate" daughters and sons, friends of her daughters who had "self-adopted" themselves into the family and live all over the world, but still checked in regularly with "Miss Mary Will."

Mr. Julian Robert "Bob" Leonard
Mr. Julian Robert "Bob" Leonard, 50, of Lanett, Ala., formerly of LaGrange, Ga., died December 30, 2002 at University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, Ala.

Mr. Leonard was born April 11, 1952, son of Al and Mary Gene Leonard. He was currently employed at The Fields Golf Course in LaGrange.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003 at Dunson United Methodist Church in LaGrange with Rev. Dalton Hammock officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date in Newnan, Ga.

Surviving are his fiancee, Carol Helton, of Lanett, Ala.; three sons, Rob Leonard and Josh Leonard, Newnan, Ga., and Rollins Leonard of Lexington, KY; brother, Jim Leonard of Williamsburg, Va.; and sisters, Kathy Heyduk, Sugarhill, Ga. and Kay Smith of Charlotte, N.C.

The family requests that those who desire may make donations to the American Heart Association.

Mrs. Fay Shaw of Palmetto died December 31, 2002.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Gene Shaw.

Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William and Judy Shaw, Douglasville; Mr. and Mrs. Guy and Peggy Shaw, Palmetto; four grandchildren, Charles, Matt, Bonnie and Kyle; four great-grandchildren, Carlie, Nicholas, Zachary and Alexandria.

A funeral will be Friday, Jan. 3, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Parrott Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park.

The family was receiving friends Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Paula Bunn Thrower, 46, of LaGrange, Ga., died Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at the home of her daughter in Adairsville, Ga.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3 at Wehadkee Baptist Church in Troup County, Ga. The Rev. Olin McClain and the Rev. Nick Pilgrim will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Scottie Allen, Christopher Allen, Timothy Allen, Andy Kelley, Mark Cavender and Billy Hogan.

Born April 17, 1956 in Troup County, Mrs. Thrower was a daughter of Inez Hogan Bunn of Franklin, Ga. and the late Jimmy Ray Bunn. She lived in LaGrange most of her life and was a member of Wehadkee Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Donnie Thrower of LaGrange; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Jonathan Rogers of Adairsville; two sisters, Susan Kelley of LaGrange and Alice Turner of Franklin; brother, Mike Bunn of West Point; two grandchildren, James Rogers and Samantha Rogers, both of Adairsville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Paula Thrower Memorial Fund, c/o Wehadkee Baptist Church, 930 Abbotsford Rd., LaGrange, GA 30240.

Mr. Jerry Williams Jr. will be remembered at a funeral Friday, January 3, 2003 at 2 p.m. in the Sellers-Smith Funeral Home R. W. S. Memorial Chapel.

Brother George Mayo will be eulogist, assisted by Brother Winston Martin and Brother Charles Parker. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Baptist Cemetery in Moreland, Ga.

The family will assemble at the home of Mrs. Minnie Hill, 73-A Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Newnan at 1 p.m.

Mr. "Junior" Williams was the first born of three children to Shirley and Jerry Williams .

Also surviving are his step-father, Havis Lee Johnson; two brothers, Anthony and Canaan; a friend who has been a sister to him, April White of Atlanta.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mattie Kendrick.

He received the Lord at an early age and joined the Israel Baptist Church in Atlanta, Ga. He was a professional brick mason and he traveled all over the world with his talent as a brick mason. He was known for his uniqueness in the field of masonary.

Other survivors are his companion, Tamika Hardy of Nashville, Tenn.; mother and step-father, Shirley and Havis Johnson; daughter, Jerrcia B. Williams and her son whom he loved, Deveric Hardy, Tavie and Renae; aunts, Mrs. Annie Walton of New York, Margaret Kendrick of Atlanta, Vanessa Williams of Atlanta, Mrs. Minnie Hill of Newnan; Uncle Ike, Larry George Jones of Atlanta; cousins, Hosea, Rita, Reginald Walton of New York, Dee-Doc, Atlanta, Valerie, Tina, Louise, Ruth, Lillie Bell, Sonny, Robert, Shanae, Cecil, Michah, White, Wallace of New York, Keisha, Brenda, Nashville, Tenn., Debbie, Michael and Rodney and a host of other cousins and friends.

Mrs. Lauralee (Pate) Davis, 56, of East Washington Street, Newnan, Ga., died Sunday, December 29, 2002 at Newnan Hospital in Newnan.

She was born August 2, 1946 in Newnan, daughter of Mildred Rainwater Pate of Newnan and the late Roger Pate. She was the wife of Curtis Davis and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

The family was receiving friends Monday, Dec. 30, from 6-9 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.

A funeral was being held in McKoon's chapel Tuesday, Dec. 31 at 11 a.m. Joe Strickland and Dr. Ray Freeman were officiating and burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Roscoe Road, Newnan.

Pallbearers were Walter Simmons, Bob Dunaway, Morgan Couch, Kenny Orr, Steve Orr, Tony Davis.

Surviving are her husband, Curtis Davis of Newnan; mother, Mildred Rainwater Pate of Newnan; sons, Roger Huddleston of Newnan, Michael Moran of Newnan and step-son William Davis of Newnan; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Sandy Pate and Sammy and Jane Pate; and grandchildren, Kayla Davis, Evertt Davis, Bridgett Moran and Myles Moran.
