Ms. Kathleen Strickland Garner
Ms. Kathleen Strickland Garner, 87, died Friday, March 12, 2004, at Portsbridge Hospice in Atlanta.

Ms. Garner was born icon in Alvaton, Ga. on Nov. 23, 1916, to the late Bundy Garner and Mattie (Strickland) Garner. She was retired from the State of Georgia Department of Transportation Bridge Division.

A graveside service will be held Monday, March 15, at Alvaton Cemetery at 11 a.m. Rev. Joe Strickland will officiate.

Ms. Garner is the aunt of William Henry "Dick" Scott of Newnan. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Felton McCarthy of Oglethorpe, Ga.

Mrs. Mary Lee Hines
Mrs. Mary Lee Hines died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at her residence after an extended illness.

Mrs. Hines was born icon Feb. 22, 1925, to Lucille and Estridge Mobley in Palmetto, Ga. She was a successful business owner who ran a service establishment that served the Newnan community for years. Her friendship with a patron grew into love, and on Sept. 16, 1960, Robert and Mary wed at the parsonage of Newnan Chapel United Methodist Church, where she remained a member until her death.

Mrs. Hines' passion for life was giving her self in every way to those she loved and cared for most. She lived her life through being a wife, mother and friend to others.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hines will be held Monday, March 15, 2004, at 1 p.m. at Newnan Chapel United Methodist Church. The remains will be placed instate at 11 a.m. Rev. Moses Woodruff Jr. will officiate, and Rev. Johnnie Coleman will be assisted by Rev. Thomas Hines Jr. in delivering the eulogy.

Internment will be held at Eastview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Willie Lee Smith, Robert Woods, Danny Williams, Shannon Mobley, Arthur Reid and Leon Woods Sr.

Survivors include devoted husband of 42 years Robert Hines Jr.; one beloved sister, Jeanette Hardy; three cherished children, Clarence White of Newnan, Rita Hines Parker of Palmetto and Reginald R. Hines of Newnan; eight beautiful grandchildren, Latrice, Latrez, Ameshea, Asia, Alexis, Cory, Miles and Erin; one son-in-law, Dewitt Parker; two daughters-in-law, Gwen White and Altregia Hines; three sisters-in-law, Annie Mae Hines, Annie Kate Hines and Louise Hines; one sister-like family member, Pauline Smith; and a host of other family members and friends.

Mr. Charles Robert Ray
Mr. Charles Robert Ray, 66, of 1616 Steadman Rd., Tallapoosa, Ga., died Friday, March 12, 2004.

Mr. Ray was born icon Sept. 21, 1937, to the late George and Maude Clackum Ray. He was retired from General Motors, served in the United States Navy Reserves and was a devoted member of Tallapoosa First United Methodist Church.

Funeral services for Mr. Ray will be held today at 4 p.m. at Tallapoosa First United Methodist Church. Rev. Doug Aultman will officiate. The body will lie instate at the church from 3 to 4 p.m. Pallbearers will be James Thompson, Darian Thompson, Ed Thompson, Donald Monroe, Doug Aultman Jr., Mitchell Clark, Jimmy Jones and Kenneth Williams. Internment will follow in Hollywood Cemetery.

Survivors include wife, Charlene Ray of Tallapoosa; daughters and sons-in-law, Charis and Sam Madaris of Newnan and Christa and David Kiker of Tallapoosa; one son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Malaysy Ray of Lawrenceville; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Sue Head Duke
Mrs. Sue Head Duke, 79, of Sargent, Ga., died Thursday, March 11, 2004 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.

She was born icon Sept. 18, 1924 in Coweta County, daughter of the late Jeffie Head and the late Myrtie (Thornton) Head. She retired from Bibb Manufacturing Company, and after retirement she worked for the Coweta County School System at Arnco-Sargent School. She was a member of Sargent Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert George Duke. Surviving her is her son, Wayne Duke and his wife, Miriam. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Chasity Daniel, Andy Daniel, Krissy Eskew; and her great-grandchildren, Hunter Eskew, Mallory Eskew and Evan Eskew. A sister-in-law is Sarah Ozmore.

Arrangements are being handled by McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, Newnan, Ga., where the family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Friday, March 12. Funeral service will be at McKoon Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 13, Rev. David Arrington, Rev. Rhodes Skinner officiating. Interment will be at Sargent Cemetery in Sargent, Ga. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Westbrook, Wayne Lewis, Larry Rooker, Bobby Veal, Steve Head, David Eskew and Andy Daniel.

Mrs. Loretta Fountaine
Mrs. Loretta Fountaine of Villa Rica, Ga., died March 11, 2004 at Cobb Hospital. She was born icon Oct. 23, 1936 in Coweta County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Fountaine. Survivors are son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Linda Smith of Newnan; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Daniel Fountain of Bremen; grandchildren, Kelly Phillips, Jason Brown, Christy Calhoun, Keith Turner Jr.; nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 13 at noon at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel with Rev. Doug Pitts officiating. Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan. Visitation was Friday, 4-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Higgins Hillcrest Chapel, Newnan, Ga.

Mr. William Donald Davis
Mr. William Donald Davis, 69, of Luthersville, Ga., died Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at Hospice LaGrange in LaGrange, Ga.

He was born icon Dec. 20, 1934 in Tifton, Ga., son of the late Corbin J. and Pauline (Greer) Davis. He was retired from Atlanta Gas Light Co. Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Pat (Rafter) Davis; daughters, Kathy Chambers and Lisa Arbour; three sons, Michael Davis, Thomas Davis, and Scott Davis; grandchildren, Jenifer Davis, Abbie Davis, Billy Davis, Brandon Davis, Kalen Arbour, Hannah Arbour and Samuel Arbour.

Arrangements are being handled by McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan, Ga., where the family was receiving friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 11. Funeral service will be at the graveside in Westview Cemetery at 2 p.m. Friday, March 12. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Davis' memory to Hospice LaGrange.

Mrs. Paula Ann Smallwood
Mrs. Paula Ann Smallwood of Newnan, Ga., died March 9, 2004. She was born icon Feb. 15, 1965 in Homestead, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and JoAnn (Barnes) Mapp. Survivors include her husband, Arlis Smallwood Jr. of Newnan; son, Travis Mapp of LaGrange; stepson, Trip Smallwood of Newnan; daughter, Christina Brown of LaGrange; brother, James Mapp; granddaughter, Courtney Brown.

Funeral service will be Saturday, March 13 at 2 p.m. at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Ronald "Bubba" Jones
Mr. Ronald "Bubba" Jones, 62, of Grantville, Ga., died Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at Newnan Hospital in Newnan, Ga.

He was a member of Gordon Road Church of Christ. He was a longtime resident of Coweta County.

Surviving are son, Mike Jones and wife Bonnie Jones of Grantville, Ga.; two sisters, Nancy Potts Roberts and Husband Dennis Roberts of Grantville, Ga.; sister, Patsy Rhinehart and husband Allen Rhinehart of Grantville, Ga.; grandchild, Zoie Montana Jones of Grantville, Ga.; sister-in-law, Wanda Jones of Grantville, Ga.; one nephew and three nieces. Pallbearers are Wayne Jones, Jimmy Jones, Ronnie Boswell, Larry Beckom, Wayne Moore and Jack Wade.

Arrangements are being handled by McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan, Ga. where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2004. Funeral service will be at Gordon Road Church of Christ at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 11. Mr. Mansel Carpenter officiating. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan, Ga.

Mrs. Minnie Huey Burgess
Mrs. Minnie Huey Burgess, 97, a longtime resident of the Rosemont Community, died Sunday, March 7, 2004 at Hospice LaGrange.

She was born icon Sept. 3, 1906 in Tallassee, AL to Vachel Barney and Martha Cannon Huey. She had lived in the LaGrange area most of her life and was a homemaker and member of Hilyer Baptist Church.

Funeral is 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Chapel with Rev. Cullen Clements and Rev. Max McCord officiating. Burial in Hillview East Cemetery.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Burgess Short and J. B. Short, Pine Mountain, GA; four sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy Burgess, LaGrange, Raymond and Virginia Burgess, Pine Mountain, Ga., Roy and Joyce Burgess, Moreland, GA, Billy and Alice Burgess, Moreland, GA; foster daughter, Beatrice Dewberry, LaGrange; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Lee Burgess Sr. and son, Olin Burgess.

Visitation was 5-7 p.m. Monday. Flowers are accepted, or donations in Mrs. Burgess' memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Mrs. Ila B. Gillespie
Mrs. Ila B. Gillespie, 80, of Newnan, Ga., died Monday, March 8, 2004. She was born icon in West Graham, Virginia, October 10, 1923, daughter of the late Isaac Brooks and Nannie French Brooks. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William Gillespie.

She is survived by son, Mr. William Gillespie Jr. and his wife Julie of Newnan, Ga.; daughter, Judith Gillespie Hall and her husband William of Ann Arbor, Michigan; three sisters; nine grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, Newnan, Ga. A memorial service will be held at Georgian Place at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, with Dr. Joel Richardson officiating. Visitation will be held at Dudley Mortuary in Bluefield, VA on Thursday, March 11 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Dudley Mortuary Friday, March 12 at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Bluefield, VA.

Mr. T. J. Mann of Palmetto, Ga., died March 7, 2004. Mr. Mann is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Dale and James Plant, Franklin, Renee and Rocky Wright, Newnan, Anita and Scott Hall, Douglasville; sister, Carolyn and Phillip Hoover, Augusta; sister-in-law, Kathryn and Lewis Collinsworth, Newnan; grandchildren, Jay Plant, Kristie Plant, Andy Brown, Anthony Brown, Kayla Wright, Drew Wright; five great-grandchildren. Funeral will be Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Parrott Funeral Home. Rev. Ralph Bobo officiating. Interment Holly Hill. Mrs. Mayme B. Mansour
Mrs. Mayme B. Mansour, a 72-year resident of Newnan, passed away on March 7, 2004. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Michael Vincent Mansour. She is survived by her children: June Ellen (Fayes) Thomas, of Miami, Fla., Rochelle (Hershall) Norred, Ellis A. Mansour II (Melinda), and John Charles Mansour (Michelle), all of Newnan, Ga.

Mrs. Mansour leaves 14 grandchildren: Michael, Gina and Alan Thomas, Monica Brown, Denise Norred, Deanna Eiland, Melissa Smith, Andrea and Laura Mansour, Mary Ellen Coggin, Michael V. Mansour II, John Ellis, Philip and Paul Mansour. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren: Brandon F. Thomas, Margaret Ann and Joseph Eiland, Hershall Michael and Mayme McDonald Smith and Banks Mansour Coggin, and survived by her brother-in-law, James E. Mansour of Newnan.

Mrs. Mansour was a founding member of St. George Catholic Church and was named "Woman of the Year." She actively participated in the spiritual and social life of her parish. She was also a generous supporter of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cancer Home in Atlanta and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.

She will be deeply missed by not only her children, but by many loving nieces and nephews, her neighbors, and by the scores of friends who visited with her at Brothers Ltd. for more than 25 years.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, at St. George Catholic Church. Father Austin Fogarty will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. George Catholic Church.

Mrs. Izetta (Betty) Wright
Mrs. Izetta (Betty) Wright, 71, of Newnan, Ga., died Monday, March 8, 2004 at her residence. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

She is survived by five sons, Joe Wright of Newnan, Rocky Wright of Newnan, Jimmy Wright of Austell, Ga., Ricky Wright of Jackson, Ga., and Ronnie Wright of Hampton, Ga.; sister, Mary Adams of Crestview Fla.; two brothers, A. C. Stokes and Wilton Stokes, both of Winter Garden, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband James H. Wright Sr.

MRS. FRANCES CARMICHAEL of Sharpsburg, Ga., died Friday, March 5, 2004 at Grady Health Care Center in Atlanta, Ga. Final arrangements entrusted to Sellers-Smith Funeral Home, Inc.

MR. RAYMOND MINTZ, 30, of Marietta, died Feb. 29, 2004 at Kennestone Hospital. Funeral services were held March 6, 2004 at Antioch Baptist Church, Macon, Ga. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery.Andrews Mortuary, Newnan.

MRS. JANET LUNSFORD TRENT, 60, of LaGrange and formerly of Hogansville, died Saturday, March 6, 2004. Funeral services were at 4 p.m., Sunday, March 7, at Asbury United Methodist Church in Troup County. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home, Hogansville.

Mr. Don A. Bryant, 73, of Sargent, died Friday, March 5, 2004.

Mr. Bryant was born icon on Nov. 1, 1930, to the late Floyd Bryant and Florine S. May Bryant. He was a United States Navy veteran.

Funeral services for Mr. Bryant will he held Monday, March 8 at 11 a.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. Son Gary Bryant will officiate, and internment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hemophilia of Georgia Inc., 8800 Roswell Rd., Ste. 170, Atlanta, Ga. 30350, or to the Sargent Baptist Church Building Fund, Sargent, Ga. 30275.

Survivors include wife, Diane Bryant of Sargent; sons, Patrick Bryant of Huntsville, Ala., Barry Bryant of East Point, Ga. and Gary Bryant of Chillicothe, Ill.; two sisters, Evelyn Bennett of Fayetteville, Ga. and Jeanette Leary of Marietta, Ga.; two brothers, Elmer Bryant of Atlanta and Ray Bryant of Jonesboro, Ga.; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Charles Dohanich were held Friday, March 5, 2004, in McMurray, Penn. Burial was held at Forest Lawn Gardens.

Mr. Dohanich was the father of Louis Dohanich, a longtime employee of McKoon Funeral Home.
