Miss Arrie Lee Peterson

Funeral services for Miss Arrie Lee Peterson of 101 Hazel Way will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at New Mt. Olive Baptist Church on Knott Road. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Miss Peterson, a life-long resident of Troup County, was the daughter of Mrs. Ida Broome Peterson and the late Lewis Peterson. She was a member of New Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she served very faithful until her health declined. She was a member of the UBA Society.
Survivors, other than her mother, include a loving and devoted daughter, Miss Coretha Peterson; two loving sisters, Miss Dorothy Peterson and Miss Vivian C. Peterson, all of LaGrange; a brother, George W. Peterson of Seattle, Ws.; a very special cousin, Mrs. Bessie Moss of LaGrange; three very special friends, Jim Edmondson, Mrs. Mattie Easter and Melvin Easter, all of LaGrange; two nieces, Mrs. Gwinuette Young and Miss Tracy Peterson, both of LaGrange, three nephews, Joe Lewis Peterson and Kevin Peterson, both of LaGrange, and Stanley J. Peterson of Virginia Beach, Va.; and a number of other relative and friends.
The family will be at the residence of her mother at 807 Greenville St.
Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Alice Callaway

Mrs. Alice Hand Callaway, 85, of 1200 Vernon Road died Sunday at her home.
Mrs. Callaway, born October 4, 1912, in Pelham, was the daughter of the late J.L. and Florence Hollis Hand and was the widow of the late Fuller E. Callaway Jr. She attended Mount Vernon Junior College in Washington , D.C., and was a member of First Baptist Church on the Square where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was very active in many civic and cultural activities including a founding member of the Chattahoochee Valley Art Museum, past trustee of the Fuller E. Callaway Foundation Inc., past trustee of the Callaway Foundation, Inc., and was currently serving as chairperson of Charitable Services Company.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Ida and Charles D. Hudson of LaGrange; three granddaughters, Jane Alice Craig, Ellen Harris and Ida Hughes, all of LaGrange; two grandsons, Mark Callaway and Charles D. Hudson Jr., both of LaGrange; 15 great-grandchildren, David Zimri Cauble IV, Charles Hudson Cauble, Meredith Hand Craig, Samuel Stephen Craig, Fuller E. Callaway IV, Mary Hollis Callaway, Joseph Hayes Callaway, Gabriella Reeves Callaway, Robert Griffin Harris III, Charles D. (Chase) Hudson III, Mary Ellen Hudson, Thomas Danford Hudson, Florence Hand Hudson, Howard Henry Hughes Jr. and Frederick Connell (Fred) Hughes; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church on the Square with Dr. Paul R. Baxter officiating. Entombment will be in the Callaway Mausoleum in Hillview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 5 to 7 at her home at 1200 Vernon Road.
Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, LaGrange Chapel, at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Betty Jenette Presley

Mrs. Betty Jenette Presley, 68, formerly of 143 Edgemont Drive, died Sunday at Hospice LaGrange.
Mrs. Presley, a native of Monroe, was the daughter of the late Nina Bell Parham and Robert Hammond Coker. She was retired from LaGrange Molding.
Survivors include her husband, Vernon F. Presley, a daughter, Deborah Rivera; five sons and daughters-in-law, Vernon Lynn and Sonia Presley, Steve and Patricia Presley, Robert and Kim Presley, all of LaGrange, Keith and Sue Presley of Franklin and Mark Turner of Lawrenceville; a brother, Dan Coker of Riverdale; four sisters, Shirley Wills of Athens, Ruby Lancaster of Pasadena Texas , Mary Elliott of Stone Mountain and Brenda Lyle of Raleigh, N.C.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Shadowlawn Cemetery with the Rev. Rex Campbell officiating.
The family will be at their residence at 143 Edgemont Drive and will receive friends this evening from 7 until 9 at the Funeral Home.
Services have been entrusted to LaGrange Funeral Home at 1101 Hogansville Road.

Mrs. Marjorie Sue Phillips

Mrs. Marjorie Sue Phillips, 67, of 14 Beaumont Lane died Saturday at West Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Phillips was born January 18, 1931 in Cusseta, Ala., the daughter of the late Almond Pierce and Decie Duffey Sexton. She returned to LaGrange in 1987, was a member of Southwest LaGrange Baptist Church and a loving mother.
Survivors include her husband, James R. (Bobby) Phillips of LaGrange: a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Walt Hellams of Rex; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Harold and Diane Phillips of Lawton, Okla., Tommy and Vickie Phillips of Lawrenceville and Terry Phillips of LaGrange; three sisters, LaRue Tustin of Arcadia Fla., and Juanita Parmer and Barbara Brown, both of LaGrange; two brothers Bill Sexton of Jonesboro and Terrell Sexton of LaGrange; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were this morning at 11 in Restlawn Memory Gardens with the Rev. Robert Prater officiating.
Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Vera Kelley

Mrs. Vera Kelley, wife of Lamar Kelley, of 967 Kelley Street died Sunday at Brian Nursing Center.
West Georgia Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

George R. Sherman

George Rutledge Sherman, 36, a native and former resident of LaGrange, died Sunday in Washington , D.C.
The family will be at the home of his mother, Mrs. Conell Ray Sherman, at 1021 Borton Street.
A service by Mackey-Wilson-Jennings Funeral Home.

Mrs. Annie McFerson

Mrs. Annie McFerson of 112 Lanett Ave., died Monday at the West Georgia Medical Center.
The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Annie Hall, at 414 Colquitt Street.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later by West Georgia Mortuary.

Mrs. Vera Kelley

Funeral services for Mrs. Vera Hall Kelley of 967 Kelley St., will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Old Mt. Olive Baptist Church on John Lovelace Road. The Rev. Michael Stenson will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Kelly was a native of Troup County and a member of Old Mt. Olive Baptist Church
Survivors include her husband, Lamar Kelly Jr.; two sisters, Miss Mary Hall and Mrs. Alice Ogletree, both of Atlanta; two stepsons, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Kelley and Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Carolyn) Kelley, both of Atlanta; a devoted niece, Mrs. Judy Gray of LaGrange; and several other relatives.
West Georgia Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Smith

Robert Smith, 75, of 83 Kimbrough Road died Tuesday at West Georgia Medical Center after several weeks of illness.
Mr. Smith was born April 23, 1922, in Randolph County, Ala., the son of the late Troy and Lilly Bowen Smith. He had lived here most of his life, was a former employee of the Hillside Plant of Milliken & Company and was a member of Gray Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Vacie Smith; a son and daughter-in-law, Darnell and Pat Smith, all of LaGrange; two grandchildren and their spouses, Krista and Kelly Bowen of Pine Mountain and Donald and Daphne Wright of LaGrange; six great-grandchildren; and a brother Dolphus Smith of Carrollton.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Gray Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Lamar Womack officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service.
The family will be at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Darnell and Pat Smith , at 190 Hill Road and will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 until 8.
Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Ann McConnell

Ruth Ann McConnell, 68, of Pine Mountain died Sunday at her residence.
Mrs. McConnell was born April 22, 1929, in Saginaw, Mich., the daughter of the late John and Sadie Dudewicz. She was a stewardess with Delta Airlines in the 1950’s and retired from Callaway Gardens as a concierge. After her retirement, she was with Volunteer Services at the Gardens. She was the widow of Lawrence R. McConnell and a Catholic.
Survivors include a son, Chris McConnell of Winder; a daughter, Pamela Talley of West Point; and three grandchildren, Jonathan Talley of Cleveland, Tenn., and Bradley McConnell and Travis McConnell, both of Winder.
Graveside services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mrs. McConnell.
Cox Funeral Home of Hamilton in charge of arrangements.

Earl R. McCarley

Earl R. McCarley, 74, of 2611 Roanoke Road died Friday at Hospice LaGrange after several months of illness.
Mr. McCarley was born January 30, 1924, son of the late Hoyt Lester and Myrtis Robertson McCarley.
He had lived here most of his life and was retired from Money Back stores. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II and was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Woodland, Ala. He was preceded in death by a son Richard McCarley and a sister, Margaret Golden.
Survivors include his wife, Jean M. McCarley of LaGrange; three daughters, Sandra A. Williams of LaGrange, Carolyn R. McCarley of Luthersville and Melissa J. McCarley of Roanoke, Ala.; three sons, Buddy G. Whitley of LaGrange, George D. McCarley and Phillip R. McCarley, both of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Leslie C. Battle of Huntsville, Ala., Tyson Whitley, Whit Abel and Haley Abel, all of LaGrange and Megan McCarley of Roanoke; a great-granddaughter, Chloe L. Battle of Huntsville; a sister, Myrl Rackley of Altha, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at Hunter-Allen-Myhand chapel at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Michael Hornsby officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Woodland, Ala. with Rev. David Daniel officiating at the graveside.
The family will be at their home at 2611 Roanoke Road and will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 7 until 9.
Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may contribute to Hospice LaGrange or to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mr. McCarley.

Mrs. Ann C. Conant

Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Ann C. Conant, 88, of Decatur will be announced by the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home.
A native of Heard County, Mrs. Conant had lived in Decatur for eleven years. She retired from Pure Oil Company and later worked for the Fulton County Juvenile Court System.
Survivors include a daughter, Frances Newton of Lithia Springs; four sisters, Eunice Sanders of West Point, Edna Gladney of Jamestown, N.C., Doris Storme of Trevorton, Pa. and Jeanette Henderson of Hogansville; two granddaughters. Deborah Swann of Fayetteville and Dorothy Smith of Duluth; and five great-granddaughters.

Ada V. Stallings

Ada V. Stallings, 100, of Newnan died Friday at Christian City Convalescent Center in Union City.
Mrs. Stallings was born January 8, 1898 in Heard County. She was a homemaker and longtime resident of Charleston, S.C. before moving to Christian City.
Survivors include two half sisters, Johnnie Bearden of Preston and Edith Nelms of Franklin; a half brother, John P. Wilson of LaGrange; two nieces, Ruby Gay and Frances Wood, both of LaGrange.
Graveside services will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan today at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gary Parrish and Minister Carl Ryden officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Christian City Convalescent Center, 7300 Lester Road, Union City, Ga. 30291.

Miss Sallie Kate Lipham

Miss Sallie Kate Lipham, 91, of Franklin died Saturday after several years of declining health.
Miss Lipham was born July 14,1906, daughter of the late William Walkins and Mary Lucinda Lesley Lipham. She was an active member of the Bethel Christian Church. Miss Lipham was a retired weaver for Callaway Mills.
Survivors include her nephew and his family, Pat, Jane, Leslie and Brian Lipham, all of Franklin.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Bethel Christian Church with the Revs. Clifford Anderson and John Steen officiating. Burial will be in the Church cemetery.
Tom Stutts and Sons Funeral Home of Franklin is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ann Conant

Graveside services for Mrs. Ann Chatman Conant, 88, of Decatur will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Michael Marsingill will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home.
