Frank Miles

Frank Miles, 79, of Standing Rock, Ala., died Monday in Valley, Ala.
Mr. Miles, a Randolph County, Ala., native, was born December 23,1918, the son of the late Walter and Ellen Hadley Miles. He was a World War II Army veteran, a member of Standing Rock Methodist Church and a retired employee of West Point Pepperell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Harvel Miles.
Survivors include a daughter, Opal Wingo of LaGrange; a son and daughter-in-law, Claxton and Sandra Miles of Valley; two brothers, Jack Miles of Wedowee, Ala., and Collie Miles of LaGrange; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Home Chapel in Roanoke with the Rev. S.T. Janney officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memory Gardens.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home after 1:30 p.m.

Jerry Lamar Creel

Jerry Lamar Creel, 59, of Smiths, Ala., died Sunday at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.
Mr. Creel was born May 25, 1939, in Geneva County, Ala., the son of Otheal Creel of Dothan, Ala., and the late Johnnie B. Smith Creel. He was a Vietnam veteran and attended Philadelphia Baptist Church. He was employed by Sears as a salesman.
In addition to his father, he is survived by two sons, Mike Creel of Smiths and Johnny Creel of Pine Mountain; a daughter, Kelly DeHio of Hong Kong, China; a sister, Pat Callihan of Pine Mountain Valley; two brothers, Samuel Creel of Dothan and Ira Creel of New Haven, Conn.; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Philadelphia Baptist Church with burial in the Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in Phenix City, Ala.

Lamar Carter

Funeral services for Lamar Carter of 411 Dixie St., will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Saint James C.M.E. Church on Revis St. The Rev. Ronald E. Davis will officiate with burial in Southview Cemetery.
Mr. Carter, a native of Chicago, Ill., was an employee of the Brian Center Nursing Care and a Baptist.
Survivors include four brothers, Walter Carter and Lavonya Carter, both of Bloomington, Ill., Tony Carter of LaGrange and Ruben Carter of Atlanta; a sister, Felicia Carter of Charleston, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, five nephews, one uncle and aunt, cousins and other relatives.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 6 until 8.
A service by Mackey-Wilson-Jennings Funeral Home.

Nigel Whitfield

Nigel Shavaughn Whitfield, six days old, of West Point died Sunday at Egleston Childrens Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include her mother, April S. Houston of West Point; her father, Jaree Whitfield of LaGrange; maternal grandmother, Evelyn Houston of West Point; maternal grandfather, Billy Davidson of West Point; paternal grandmother, Mary Whitfield of LaGrange; paternal grandfather, Austell Whitfield of Little Rock, Ark.; and paternal great-grandmothers, Alice Fanning and Nellie Whitfield, both of LaGrange.
Graveside services will be in the St. Paul C.M.E. Church Cemetery in Gabbettville at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. G.L. Fanning officiating.
The family may be contacted at the home of Mrs. Evelyn Houston at 814 East 6th Street in West Point.
M.W. Lee Mortuary, Inc., of West Point is in charge of arrangements.

John Henry Koenig

John Henry Koenig, 68, of McDonough died January 2 at Southern Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Koenig, a retired aircraft mechanic with Eastern Airlines, was a member of Morrow United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Frances Koenig of McDonough; a daughter, Barbara Wilson of Milner; a grandson, John WIlson of McDonough; and a sister, Mrs. Eleanor Rogers of Kingston, Tenn.
Funeral services were held January 6 at Haisten Funeral Home in McDonough with the Rev. Jim Higgins officiating. Burial was in Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange.

Miss Juanita Cannon

Miss Juanita Cannon of 939 Burks Chapel Road, formerly of 206 Keyes St., died Tuesday at West Georgia Medical Center.
The family will be at the home of her mother, Mrs. Maggie Cannon, at 819 Burks Chapel Road.
A service by Mackey-Wilson-Jennings Funeral Home.

Mrs. Queenie Ferrell

Funeral services for Mrs. Queenie Hall Ferrell of 126 Foch St., will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Old Mount Olive Baptist Church. The Rev. Michael Stenson will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Ferrell, a native of Troup County, was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mattie Broome Hall. She was a presser for Ideal Laundry and a member of Old Mount Olive Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Inez (Charlie) Ridgeway, Mrs. Mattie Dunson and Mrs. Aurelia Heard; a brother, Neal (Leila Mae) Hall, all of LaGrange; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family will be at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Inez and Charlie Ridgeway, at 122 Foch St.
A service by Mackey-Wilson-Jennings Funeral Home.

Vergil M. Cotton

Vergil M. Cotton, 80, of 110 Cotton Road died Tuesday at West Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lola Civers

Mrs. Lola Civers of 117 Fendig St., died Wednesday at West Georgia Health System.
The family will be at the home of her niece, Etrusha Rivers, at 209 Fendig St.
A service by Mackey-Wilson-Jennings Funeral Home.

Mrs. Nell E. Collier

Mrs. Nell E. Collier, 97, of 1310 Vernon Road died Wednesday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Collier, born September 7, 1900, in Barnesville, was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Jernigan Eley. She attended Wesleyan College in Macon and had lived in LaGrange since 1931.
Mrs. Collier was a homemaker and the wife of the late Perrin N. Collier. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she had been very active for many years. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth C. Trotter.
Survivors include a daughter, Isabelle C. Lamar of Atlanta; a son-in-law, James P. Trotter of Highland, N.C.; two sisters, Bertie E. Brown of Greenville, S.C., and Elizabeth E. Jenkins of Winston-Salem, N.C.; five grandsons, James P. Trotter Jr. and Perrin C. Trotter, both of Columbus, McKie M. Trotter II, Thomas A. Lamar III and Perrin C. Lamar, all of Atlanta; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the Ida Cason Callaway Chapel of First Baptist Church with Dr. Paul R. Baxter officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make gifts to a charity of their choice.

Mrs. Sadie McCollum

Funeral services for Mrs. Sadie Hand McCollum, 87, of Moreland will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben & Sons Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Eley will officiate with burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan.
A lifelong resident of Coweta County, Mrs. McCollum was a member of Moreland Baptist Church and was the wife of the late Woodrow McCollum.
Survivors include a son, James McCollum of Moreland; a daughter, Mrs. Frances Neese of Newnan; a brother, Jesse Hand of Newnan; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 until 9 tonight.

Sandra Jean Sedor

Sandra Jean Sedor, 59, of 119 Old Airport Road died Tuesday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Ms. Sedor was born August 19, 1938 in Binghamton, N.Y., the daughter of Laura Hawk Sedor and the late Michael Sedor. She was a former computer programmer for Otari Corporation in Foster City, Calif., a former English teacher and a Peace Corps Volunteer, a lifetime member of Mensa, a member of the American Bridge Association and the Troup County Senior Center. She received her undergraduate degree, teaching certificate and masters degree in English from the State University of New York in Albany.
Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Laura Sedor of Johnson City, N.Y.; a daughter, Evelyn Ray of Sumter, S.C.; and a son, David Liss of Fremont, Calif.
An out of town funeral will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, those so desiring may make contributions to the national Kidney Foundation or the American Diabetes Association in memory of Ms. Sedor.

Theo (Teddy) Pruitt

Theo (Teddy) Pruitt, 37, of 651 County Road 684 in Roanoke, Ala., died Tuesday in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
Mr. Pruitt, born December 18, 1960, in LaGrange, was the son of Donald Eugene and Julia Hollis Pruitt of Roanoke, Ala. He attended Troup High School and served two years in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donnie and Tracie Pruitt and Anthony and Becky Pruitt, all of LaGrange; a sister and brother in law, Renee and Russell Batchelor of Bowdon; and several aunts and uncles.
Graveside services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in Restlawn Memory Gardens with the Rev. Gerald Batchelor officiating.
Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, LaGrange Chapel, at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road is in charge of arrangements.

Vergil M. Cotton

Vergil M. Cotton, 80, of 110 Cotton Road died Tuesday at West Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Cotton was born April 2, 1917, in Troup County, the son of Willie Lee and Frances Beatrice Brazell Cotton. He had lived here all his life, was the retired owner and operator of Vergil Cotton’s Garage and a member of Calvary Family Worship Center.
Survivors include his wife, Zadie Cotton; two sons and daughters -in-law, Ed and Linda Cotton and Randall and Dianna Cotton; a sister, Ada Mae Lynch, all of LaGrange; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home. the Rev. Carl Knowles will officiate with burial in Hillview Annex Cemetery.
The family will be at their home at 110 Cotton Road and will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 until 8.

Mrs. Ann Ramsey Jones

Mrs. Ann Ramsey Jones, 89, of Athens died Thursday.
Mrs. Jones was born in Ensley, Ala., the daughter of the late Angus and Catherine Brodie Brown. A former resident of LaGrange, she was a homemaker and had lived in Athens since 1985. She was the widow of Dr. E.E. Jones Sr., and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Everett E. Jr. and Ann S. Jones of Athens; a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Glenn Conway Jr. of Elijay; a sister, Catherine davis of Ensley, Ala.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange.
The family will receive friends at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 1010 Mooty Bridge Rd. from 10 a.m. until noon prior to the service on Saturday.
Bernstein Funeral Home in Athens in charge of local arrangements.
