Maylon Moncus

Maylon Moncus, 68, of 800 Georgia Ave., died Monday at Hospice LaGrange after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Moncus was born in River View, Ala., on December 8,1929, the son of the late James Troup and Thelma Coulter Moncus. He had been in the food service business for a number of years and was former manager of the Elks Club, Moose Club and VFW. He was a former manager for Conoco gas station, a former driver for Troup Transit and later retired from Edenfield Foods. He had lived here most of his life, was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and a member of Dixie United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Moncus; a daughter, Traci Moncus, both of LaGrange; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ronald Couch of Atlanta, Roy and Bobbie Couch of Phenix City, Ala., and Robert and Elaine Couch of Columbus; six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Z. Parks officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at their home at 800 Georgia Ave., and will receive friends at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home this evening from 6 until 8.
Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may contribute to Hospice LaGrange in memory of Mr. Moncus.

Mrs. Irma L. Eley

Mrs. Irma L Eley, 78, of 2829 West Point Road died Monday at West Georgia Medical Center after several weeks of declining health.
Mrs. Eley was born August 19, 1919, in Heard County, the daughter of the late Henry Clay and Annie Pearl Meacham Marshall. She had lived here for the past 54 years and was a Baptist.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Austin Sr. and Rose Eley of LaGrange; a sister, Ila Hamm of Forest Park; a brother, Coy W. Marshall of Locust Grove; a grandson, Charles Austin Eley Jr. of Seale, Ala.; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Hope E. and Paul Barber of Newnan; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Restlawn Memory Gardens with the Rev. Dan Wooten officiating.
The family will be at their home at 2829 West Point Road and will receive friends at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home this evening from 6 until 8.

Theron Miles Wilbanks

Theron Miles Wilbanks, 76, of LaGrange died Monday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Wilbanks was born April 2, 1921, in Blanton, Ala. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked in Atlanta and LaGrange for many years as a master plumber. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Mamie Wilbanks of LaGrange; a son, Tony Wilbanks of Blairsville; and two grandsons, Todd Wilbanks of Paris Island, S.C., and Steven Wilbanks of San Marcos, Texas .
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Blair officiating. Burial will be in Fairfax Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 7 until 9.

Charlie A. Hunt

Charlie A. Hunt, 76, of 4133 Hamilton Road died Monday at West Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mr. Hunt, born in Fulton County on May 3, 1921, was the son of the late Charlie Almon Sr. and Belle Wilkins Hunt. He had lived here most of his life and was a member of the Rosemont Baptist Church. He was retired from Civil Service at Martin Army Hospital at Fort Benning, was a former carrier for the LaGrange Daily News and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife Novis Hunt; two daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Jesse Knight and Beverly and Tom Cyphers; four granddaughters, Jessica Knight, Lisa Knight, Scarlett Phillips and Holly Phillips, all of LaGrange; a sister, Miss Laurel Hunt of Atlanta; four brothers, Macon Hunt of Atlanta, Albert Hunt of Snellville, Howard Hunt of LaGrange and Ponder Hunt of East Point; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Max McCord officiating. Burial will be in Meadoway Gardens.
The family will be at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Jesse Knight, at 102 Robertson Road and will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 7 until 9.

George A. Lakes Sr.

Funeral services for George A. Lakes Sr. will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Perria Baptist Church on Mobley Bridge Road in Hogansville. The Rev. G.A. Black will officiate with burial in the Camp Ground Cemetery in the St. Mark Community.
Mr. Lakes, the widower of the late Mrs. Bessie Hadaway Lakes, was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jack (Dora) Lakes and a native of Meriwether County. He was a member of the Mt. Perria Baptist Church where he served as a very faithful deacon. He was a Navy veteran having served during World War II and was discharged as a Seaman First Class, SV-6.
Survivors include a very devoted daughter, Mrs. Cynthia (Brian) Stargill of LaGrange; three sons, Michael (Diana) Lakes of Union City, George Lakes Jr. of Marietta and Barry (Mavis) Lakes of Woodstock; two brothers, James (Flora) Lakes of Columbus and Curtis (Maxie) Lakes of Moreno Valley, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Ken, Sharva, Desmond, Travis, Marisa, Justin, Charles and Breanna; a great-grandchild, D’Asia; a brother-in-law; 10 sisters-in-law and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The family will be at the home of his daughter at 101 Willow Creek Road in LaGrange.
Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jasper Bruce

Jasper Bruce of 506 Milam Street died this morning at his home.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later by West Georgia Mortuary.

Johnny Moore

Johnny Moore of 209 Thomas St., died Tuesday at Emory University Hospital.
A service by Mackey-Wilson-Jennings Funeral Home.

Mrs. Julia L. Gray

Mrs. Julia L. Gray of 200 Addie St., died Tuesday at her home.
The family will be at the home of her granddaughter, Denise Luke, at 111 Haley Way.
A service by Mackey-Wilson-Jennings Funeral Home.

Victor Jamie Concepcion

Victor Jamie Concepcion of 1960 Allison Court in Atlanta died Tuesday.
He was the son of the Rev. Fabian Jenkins, pastor of Saint James C.M.E. Church.
It is requested that all flowers be omitted.

Robert Lee Todd III

Robert Lee Todd III, 74, of 481 Stovall Road in Greenville died Friday at his home.
Mr. Todd, born March 15, 1926, in Turner County, was the son of the late Robert Lee Jr. and Laura Belle De Beaugrin Todd. He attended Oxford College of Emory University and received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Georgia, a master’s degree in education from Clemson University and a law degree from the Atlanta Law School. He was a Navy veteran and a brother of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He was a member of Greenville United Methodist Church where he was Sunday school superintendent and teacher of adult classes. He retired as a classroom teacher in 1987 from Troup High School.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Isabelle Allen Todd; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert Lee IV and Martha Ann Crowder Todd and Jack Allen Todd; a daughter, Laura Gay Todd; and two grandchildren, Carolyn Elizabeth Todd and Robert Lee Todd V, all of Greenville.
Graveside services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. in Greenville City Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Capes officiating.
The family will be at his home and will receive friends there.
Smith-Steele-Meadows Funeral Home in Woodbury is in charge of arrangements.

Willie Sam Moore

Willie Sam Moore of 501 Harwell Avenue died Thursday at Florence Hand Home.
Mr. Moore, a native of Chambers County, Ala., was the son of the late Theodore and Pearline Moore. He was a Navy veteran and a self-employed roofer. He a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church where he was church treasurer, assistant chairman of the Deacon Board and chairman of the Building Fund Board.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Moore of LaGrange; children, Alfonzo T. and Cynthia Moore of LaGrange, Yulander Moore of Austell, Willie S. Moore Jr., Jerry L. and Sonya Moore, John W. Moore, Ricky L. and Dreama Moore, Jeffrey D. Moore, and David G. Moore, all of LaGrange, Ethel Tucker of Roanoke, Ala., and Sammy L. and Shirley Moore of LaGrange; 27 grandchildren; a sister, Addie Hutchinson of LaGrange; a brother, Ernest Lee and Beatrice Moore of Anniston, Ala.; three sisters-in-law, Dora Cameron, Mable and Clarence Berry and Bertha and Luther Stargill, all of LaGrange; and nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by two sons, Johnny Moore and Tommy Moore.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church on Cox Street with the Revs. Collier Starks and J.H. Dowdle officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.

Douglas Laye of 5801 Mooty Bridge Road died Sunday at West Georgia Medical Center.

Gregory L. McGruder

Gregory Lemonte’ McGruder, 23, of Greenville died Friday at Georgia Baptist Meriwether Hospital.
Mr. McGruder, born December 12, 1976, was the son of Belinda Caldwell of Greenville and Robert Lewis McGruder of Newnan.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Arbor Chapel United Methodist Church in the Stovall Community with the Rev. W.E. Geter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Grant and Parks Funeral Home in Greenville is in charge of arrangements.

Jewell J. Dyer

Jewell J. Dyer, 64, of Franklin died Sunday at his home.
Mr. Dyer was born June 19, 1936 in Georgia and was self employed as a logger.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Rochelle Dyer; a daughter, Vicky Beyer, both of Franklin; a son, Steve G. Dyer of Newnan; a sister, Diane Denson of Douglasville; two brothers, Charlie Dyer of Cleveland and Ronnie Dyer of Blairsville; 9 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Ray Dyer.
Funeral services will be this afternoon at 4 at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan with the Rev. Don Helms officiating. Burial will be in Elim Baptist Church Cemetery on Handy Road in Coweta County.

Miss Bessie Cofield

Miss Bessie Cofield of 203 Vines St., died this morning at West Georgia Medical Center.
The family will be at the home of her daughter, Debra Cameron, 204 Vines St.

Mrs. Annie Horne

Mrs. Annie Horne, 80, of 335 Laurel Lane died this morning at her home.
Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Clyde Carter

Julian Clyde Carter Sr., 86, formerly of 204 Park Place died Tuesday at Florence Hand Home.
Mr. Carter, born September 28, 1914, in LaGrange, was the son of the late Robert B. and Claire Satterwhite Carter and had lived here all his life. He was an Army veteran of World War II, retired from Parker Furniture Company and was a member of First Baptist Church on the Square.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Icie Lee Carter; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Ann and Charles H. Nelson of Gautier, Miss.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Julian C. and Jane Carter of Lithia Springs and Ken and Becky Carter of LaGrange; grandchildren, Mary Beth Carter, Allen Nelson, Matthew Carter, Charla Nelson, Julian C. Carter III, Jeff Carter and Josh Carter; three great-grandchildren, Chance Nelson, Levi Abney and Julian Blair Carter; and a sister, Mrs. Elsie Whatley of LaGrange.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Restlawn Memory Gardens with Dr. Paul R. Baxter and the Rev. Olin McClain officiating.
The family will be at the home of Ken and Becky Carter at 319 Woodfield Circle and will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road.
