Douglas Laye Jr.

Douglas Laye Jr. of 5801 Mooty Bridge Road died Sunday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Laye, a native of Troup County, was the son of the late Douglas Sr. and Sarah Nelson Laye. He was a 1958 graduate of Ethel W. Kight High School and retired from Westinghouse, Inc. He was a cab driver for Arrow Cab Company and a member of Smyrna Baptist Church where he was on the Usher Board.
Survivors include six children, Marvin and Sharon Laye, Ladye Ann and Lorenza Hutchinson, all of LaGrange, and Janice and Robert Mata, LaFaye Laye and Rena Laye, all of Atlanta; and Terry Laye of Tucker; grandchildren, Lakeevia Laye, Chaka Friths, Chasity Laye, Melinda Laye, Rejavier Laye, Crystal Laye, Willie Butler Jr., Carnisha Laye, Biancia Laye, Rashad Laye and Teray Porter; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilbert and Mary Frances Laye, Garnet and Lizzie Laye, and William and Gwendolyn Laye; two sisters, and brothers-in-law, Mary Frances and Thomas Glenn and Margaret and Jessie Patterson, all of LaGrange; and a number of other relative and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Laye, and a brother, Charlie Laye.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Smyrna Baptist Church on Highway 219 North with Minister Jennie Laye, the Rev. T.L. Harris and Minister Frances Butler officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of his brother, Wilbert Laye, at 701 Miami St., and will receive friends at Mackey-Wilson-Jennings Funeral Home this evening rom 7 until 8.

Willard Hampton Allison

Willard Hampton Allison, 67, of 126C Youngs Mill Road died Monday at West Georgia Medical Center
Mr. Allison, born July 1, 1933, in LaGrange, was the son of the late William Jackson and Ruthie Louise Anderson Allison. He retired from the Air Force as a technical sergeant and was a Vietnam veteran. He returned to LaGrange in 1983 and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and member of Oakside Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Emilie Michael and Lisa Hamilton, both of Memphis, Tenn.; three sons, Michael Allison of Detroit, Mich., Stephen Allison of Sacramento, Calif., and Mark Allison of Memphis; two sisters, Dorothy Stone and Ann Bowen, both of LaGrange; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a cousin, Julia Cruz of Franklin; a close friend Pearlie Mae Tetter of Greenville, Ala.; and several nieces, nephews and other cousins.
Graveside services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. in Restlawn Memory Gardens with military honors. The Rev. Michael Reeves will officiate.
The family will be at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Earl Bowen, at 444 Fling Road and will receive friends at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home this evening from 7 until 9.

C.H. (Hub) Lipham

C.H. (Hub) Lipham, 89, of 507 Jefferson St., died Tuesday at Hospice LaGrange.
Mr. Lipham, born November 9, 1911, in Heard County, was the son of the late James and Mary Etta Sheets Lipham. A former resident of New Orleans, La., he lived in the Corinth Community of Heard County from 1968 until making his home in LaGrange in 1992. He was a retired barber, a member of Unity Baptist Church and a member of Masonic Lodge #395 in New Orleans.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Alma Lipham; a daughter, Bobbie Guthrie of Lithia Springs; three stepdaughters, Debbie Eley and Margie Robinson, both of LaGrange, and Patty Burnham of Centralhatchee; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Unity Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Robinson officiating. Burial will be in the Corinth Cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 this evening at the Claude A. McKibben & Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville.

Carey Donald Knight

Carey Donald Knight, 73, of Newnan died Monday at the Georgia War Veteran’s Nursing Home in Augusta.
Mr. Knight, born December 16, 1926 , in Newnan, was the son of the late Henry and Annie Cooper Knight. He was a 1944 graduate of LaGrange High School and a 1950 graduate of Georgia Tech with a degree in industrial management. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the retired after 36 years with International Playtex. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Newnan and a former member of Newnan Golden K Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mrs. Lillian Hill Knight of Newnan, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dr. John C. and Kaye Knight of Newnan and David H. Knight of Washington D.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Jim and Karen Poore of Barnesville; a brother and sister-in-law, Nathan and Ann Knight of Newnan; nephews, Nathan G. Knight Jr. of Brussells, Belgium, and Bill Knight of Atlanta; a niece, Ansley Knight of Newnan; and a number of cousins in Newnan and LaGrange. He was preceded in death by a son, Carey Donald Knight Jr.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan with burial in Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 until 9 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Disease Research, 15825 Shady Grove Road, Suite 140, Rockville, Md. 20850-4022.

Mrs. Leola Marchman

Mrs. Leola D. Marchman, 83, of 528 Ridgecrest Road died Tuesday at her home.
Mrs. Marchman, born April 26, 1917, in Heard County, was the daughter of the late Henry W. and Ada Lou Howard Dorough. She had lived here most of her life and was a teacher for 35 years with the LaGrange City School System and four years at LaGrange Academy. She was a former president of the Pilot Club, a member of the LaGrange Woman’s Club, Troup County Retired Teachers Association, First United Methodist Church for 50 years where she was a member of the Mary Will Sunday School Class and former president of United Methodist Women.
Survivors include her husband, J.D. Marchman of LaGrange; a daughter and son-in-law, Myron and Dr. Hal Brady III of Columbus; three grandchildren and their spouses, Brad and Cathy Brady of Chattanooga, Tenn., Elizabeth and Craig Richards of Snellville and Jason and Amanda Brady of Atlanta; three great-grandchildren, Brady Richards and Hal Richards of Snellville and Briana Brady of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a sister, Esma Miller of Newnan; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Hal Brady III, the Rev Helen Henry and Bishop Bevel Jones officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at her home and will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home.
Those desiring may make contributions to First United Methodist Church of LaGrange or to Saint Luke United Methodist Church of Columbus in memory of Mrs. Marchman.

Mrs. Lorene R. Trenton

Mrs. Lorene Ramsey Trenton, 88, of Brian Center Nursing Care, died Monday.
Mrs. Trenton, born August 18, 1912, in Troup County, was the daughter of the late Ivey M. and Mary Thompson Ramsey. She was retired from Dunson Mill of West Point Stevens with 40 years service and an Avon representative in the LaGrange area for over 35 years. She was a homemaker and an active member of Oakside Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Reva Trenton of Lanett, Ala.; a brother, Jesse Ramsey of Collinsville, Ill.; six grandchildren, Michael Rose, Davis Rose and Terry Rose, all of Florida, Kim O’Malley of North Carolina, Shane Trenton of Lanett, Ala., and Leigh Ann Lovell of Valley, Ala.; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Oakside Baptist Church with the Dr. Ralph Taylor and the Rev. S.T. Janney officiating. Burial will be in Hillview East Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at McCarthy Funeral Home in West Point from 4:30 until 7 p.m. today.

Mrs. Mildred Hood

Mrs. Mildred Hood, 82, of 460 Old Hutchinson Mill Road died Tuesday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Hood, born May 3, 1918, in Aragon, was the daughter of the late Posey and Beatrice Freeman Neal. She had lived here all of her life and retired from the Hillside Plant of Callaway Mills Company. She was a member of Bartley Road Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Reese and Dianne Hood of LaGrange; six grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home with Minister Frank Barnes officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at her home and will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 7 until 9.

Adrie Edward Moore

Funeral services for Adrie Edward Moore of Ellenwood will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Southside Chapel Funeral Home at 6362 South Lee St., in Morrow. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery here.
The family will receive friends this evening and Friday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
Mr Moore retired from textiles and was employed as a security guard.
Survivors include his wife, Chong Moore, a son, Song Kim; a grandson, Kaui Kim; brothers, Bennie Moore and Roy Moore; and sisters, Lillian Moore Rainey and Sue Moore Smith.

Mrs. Velma P. Bledsoe

Mrs. Velma Phillips Bledsoe, 74, of 139 Preston Place died Wednesday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Bledsoe, born August 7, 1926, in Heard County, was the daughter of the late Eli Pitmon and Nina Mae Noles Phillips. She was a homemaker and had lived here most of her life. She was a member of Southwest LaGrange Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, William (Bill) Bledsoe of LaGrange; a daughter, Anya Bledsoe Barnes of Columbus; a grandson, William Paul Barnes of LaGrange; a sister, Billie Hammock of Jesup; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Tommie Geraldine Bledsoe.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred Buchanan officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
The family will be at her home and will receive friends this evening from 7 until 9 at the funeral home.

Vanzie Bray

Vanzie Bray, 63, of 59 John Burks Road in Mountville died Wednesday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Bray, born September 22, 1937, in Troup County, was the son of the late Ossie and Rosie Lee Gates Bray. He retired from the Dunson Division of West Point Stevens.
The family will be at the home of his daughter at 210 Hearthstone Drive.
Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Charlie Paul Riggins

Funeral services for Charlie Paul Riggins will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Bringing Back The Gospel at 106 DeGroat St. The Rev. Jerry Burks will officiate with burial in Southview Cemetery.
Mr. Higgins, a native of Troup County, was a Methodist and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a brother, Sanford Riggins; two sisters, Mrs. Kathie Riggins and Mrs. Lillian Nelson, all of LaGrange; a devoted niece, Pastor Mary Edwards of Hogansville; and several other relatives.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. on Sunday at West Georgia Mortuary.

Fred Kennedy

Fred Kennedy of 110 East Cannon Street died this morning at Hospice LaGrange.
A service by Mackey-Wilson-Jennings Funeral Home.

Lila Rice

Lila Rice, 76, formerly of 411 North Greenwood St., died Friday at Florence Hand Home after several months of declining health.
Miss Rice, born in Wadley, Ala., on June 8, 1921, was the daughter of the late Rev. J.B. and Elvie Moncus Rice. The Rev. J.B. Rice was a well known Baptist pastor in LaGrange for many years.
Miss Rice, who had lived in LaGrange since 1924, graduated from LaGrange High School, attended LaGrange College and graduated from Tift College in Forsyth. She held a masters degree in library science from Peabody Library School in Nashville, Tenn., and a masters in advanced library studies from Emory University.
She was an assistant director of the Kinchafoonee Regional Library in Dawson, an assistant director of the Flint River Regional Library in Griffin and for 13 years was director of the Pine Mountain Regional Library with headquarters in Manchester. For 10 years, she served as public library supervisor in the Division of Public Library Services for the State of Georgia, where during her tenure she supervised the construction of more than 110 public library buildings throughout the state.
Miss Rice was a member of the First Baptist Church on the Square and the Ruth Sunday School Class where she served as a teacher. She was a member of the American Library Association, Southeastern Library Association and a life member and honorary member of the Georgia Library Association. She was a member of the LaGrange Woman’s Club, Chattahoochee Valley Art Association, Troup County Historical Society, LaGrange College Quadrangle Society, Troup County Chamber of Commerce and Highland Country Club.
Miss Rice was a past president of the Nocturne Garden Club and a member of the board of directors of Troup 2000. At one time, she was a staff writer and woman’s editor for the LaGrange Daily News.
Survivors include a sister, Lucille Ashley of Hogansville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel of the First Baptist Church. Dr. Paul R. Baxter will officiate with burial in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 this evening at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home.
Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may contribute to an organization of their choice in memory of Lila Rice.
