Trentha Holtzclaw Hicks, 61, of Blue Ridge, formerly of Forsyth County, died Friday, June 13, 2003.
Hicks was a member of Coal Mountain Baptist Church. She graduated from Forsyth County School in 1959. She was a master Cosmetologist and was preceded in death by her parents, Tom Norrell and Lola Norrell Conley.
Survivors include, daughters and sons in law, Robin Holtzclaw Sims of Buford, Jennifer Holtzclaw Darnell of Dawsonville, Melanie and Tim Martin of Cumming, Tammy and David Shirley of Dawsonville; sons and daughter in law, Shane and Debbie Holtzclaw and Tracy Holtzclaw, all of Dawsonville; sisters and brother in law, Carolyn Thomas of Woodstock, Ondrae Taffar and Latrelle Samples, both of Gainesville, Thyra and Billy Williams of Cumming and Barbara Palaio of Atlanta; former husbands, Maston Holtzclaw of Dawsonville, Rodie Hicks of Blue Ridge; 14 grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. Funeral services were held June 15, at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Don Westray, David Harris and Robbie Mathis presided. Interment at Coal Mountain Cemetery.

Dean Leven
Oct. 18, 1995-June 13, 2003
Dean Leven, 47, of Dawsonville, died Friday at Piedmont Hospital following an extended illness. Born in St. Louis, Mo., his family settled n Cobb County in 1970. Following graduation from R.L. Osborne High School in 1973, he enrolled at the Georgia Institute of Technology and was initiated into the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He graduated from Tech in 1980 with a bachelor of Electrical Engineering.
He began his engineering career with NCR in Peachtree City before moving to Phoenix, Ariz., where he worked for Motorola. He returned to Georgia in 1985, settling in Dawson County, and working for Operational Security Systems in Atlanta. He finished his engineering career the Glenayre Electronics, Inc. in Duluth as a software engineering manager.
Survivors include his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 26 years, Janice Morelock Leven. He was a devoted father to their children Joshua, Rebecca and Ruth Ann Leven, all of Dawsonville; beloved son of Dolores Fuller, Panama City Beach, Fla.; brother of Pam Oliver, Cumming, and uncle of Stuart, Angela, and Christina Oliver. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Leven, Ponca City, Ok., and cherished by his late grandparents Woodson and Geneva Borthick, St. Louis, Mo.
The family received friends Monday, June 16, at Bearden Funeral Home, Dawsonville. A memorial service was held with a reception following on Tuesday, June 17, at Blackshear Place Baptist Church, Flowery Branch, where the Levens are members. The service was conducted by Dean’s friend, the Rev. James Mills and a eulogy was given by Mrs. Agnus Berenato, long time family friend.

Louvenia Barker Stanford, 84, of Gainesville, died Monday June 16, 2003.
She was a member of Salem Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Ruth Barker, brothers, S.K. Barker, Floyd Barker and James Barker, Sister, Annie Ruth Elliott. Survivors include her husband, George Stanford of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Gerald Orr of Gainesville; grandchildren, Lori and Michael Holbrooks, Rodney and Tamela Stanford, Bradley and Brandon Orr; great grandchildren, Kaycee, Payton and Sydney Holbrooks, Ben and Mandie Stanford; brothers and sister in law, Clarence Barker, John and Betty Barker, all of Gainesville; sisters and brothers in law, Ethel and James Pugh of Dawsonville, Maxine and Tommy Phillips, Carol Roper, all of Gainesville; brothers in law and sisters in law, Dorothy Nell Barker, Ralph Elliott, all of Gainesville, Mozelle and Webb McGeehee of Suwannee, Cloyse and Jo Anne Stanford of Dawsonville, Gene and Helen Stanford of Doraville, Roberta Standford of Gainesville, Ruby Dean Stanford, Estlene Stanford, Mary Helen Stanford, all of Cumming, nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services were held June 17 at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Bud Sutton, Donnie Nix, and Michael Holbrooks presided. Interment in Sawnee View Memorial Gardens.

Ruby Mae Chafin Haygood
Died June 3, 2003
Ruby Mae Chafin Haygood, 92 of Dawsonville, died June 3, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Haygood, and son, James Haygood.
Surviving are daughters and son-in-law, Catherine and Rupert Cartwright; Annie Haygood of Dahlonega; sons and daughters-in-law,
Laverne and Louise Haygood of Webster, Fla., Donald and Ann Haygood of Alabama, Nolan and Carolyn Haygood and Charles and Carol Haygood, all of Dawsonville; sister-in-law, Margaret Chafin of Alpharetta; 18 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held on Friday, June 6 with the Rev. Herschel Randall presiding. Interment was held at Green Lawn Cemetery. Northside Chapel Funeral Directors, Roswell, handled arrangements.
John R. West
Oct. 18, 1918 - June 1, 2003
John R. West, 84, of Dawsonville died Sunday June 1, 2003 at the Mountainside Medical Center in Jasper following an extended illness. Born in Cobb County, he lived in Dawson County for the past 35 years having moved from Doraville. For many years he was a mechanic for Central Chevrolet after which he operated a poultry farm. He was a member of Harrell Grove Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah West.
Survivors include, daughters Rose L Styles of Dawsonville and Brenda Brooks of Marietta; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and a number of other relatives.
The funeral was held on Wednesday, June 4, at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Billy Joe Martin presided. Interment was held at McKees Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Bearden Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Karen Hartley Boyd

Karen Hartley Boyd, 43, of Dawsonville died Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at Chestatee Regional Hospital in Dahlonega following a short illness.
A native of Albany, Georgia, she had lived in Dawson County for four years having moved from Suwanee. She owned and operated a private day care center and was a member of First Methodist Church in Duluth, and was preceded in death by her father, Jimmy Hartley.
Survivors include, sons, Shawn Brandon Boyd of Buford, Brian Lee Boyd, of Dawsonville, and Kyle Jason Boyd of Snellville; mother and stepfather, Barbara and Jim Davenport of Dawsonville; brother Kurt Hartley of Dacula; and granddaughter Katlin Boyd. Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 2, 2003 at 11a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville. Dr. Jim Gaines officiated. Interment took place at Peachtree Memorial Park in Norcross at 2 p.m.

Wayne Popham
Died July 28, 2003
Wayne Popham, age 55 of Dawson County died Monday, July 28, 2003 in Dawson County. Funeral Services were held on Thursday, July 31 at 2p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Kelly and Lamar Day officiating.
Surviving are wife, Brenda Popham of Dawson County; son, Anthony Wayne Popham, of Dawson County; daughter, Jennifer Maria Popham, of Dawson County; brothers Jackie and David Popham, of Marble Hill; sisters, Lucille Rich, Faye Reynolds, and Naoma Popham of Ball Ground. Three grandchildren also survive. The family accepted potted plants. Donations may be given to help the family with funeral arrangements. Cagle Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Rev. Harold E. Thompson
Died July 31, 2003
Rev. Harold E. Thompson, age 68, of Canton, died Thursday evening, July 31, 2003. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Hoyt and Clara Mae Thompson, and father in law, Rev. V.B. Vaughan. He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. Rev. Thompson had been a Pastor of numerous Baptist Churches in this area for over 47 years.
Survivors include; wife, Joyce Vaughan Thompson of Canton; children, Joy and Randall Chamlee of Canton, Jerry and Donna Thompson of Gainesville; grandchildren, Keith and Tammy Chamlee, Kevin Chamlee, Jennifer and Jon Newman, Jana, Justin, and Josie Thompson; great grandchild, Kody Chamlee; mother in law, Mrs. Varnell Vaughan of Cumming; aunt, Lottie McFarlin of Alpharetta. Several other relatives survive.
Funeral Services were held on Sunday, August 3, 2003 at 3 p.m. in the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Gary Coffey, Rev. Bud Sutton, Rev. Spud English, Rev. Dexter Gravitt, Rev. Gerral Richards, Rev. Cecil Pruitt, Rev. Dan Henderson, Rev. Doug Carnes, and Rev. Larry Vaughan officiated.
Internment took place at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. Ingram Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Dorothy “Juanita” Sanford
Died Aug. 2, 2003
Mrs. Juanita Sanford, age 61, of Dawsonville, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2003 at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2004 in the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gene Cobb and Rev. Terry Elrod officiating. Interment followed in the Macedonia memorial park.
Ms. Sanford was clerk in the tax office of Cobb County. She was a member of Mars Hill Presbyterian Church and the Kennesaw Eastern Star.
Ms. Sanford was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Odean Keheley Kuykendall; brothers, Jerry Kuykendall and Grant Kuykendall; sister Renee Kuykendall. She is survived by her sons and daughters in law, Mitchell Parish of Lawrenceville, Christopher and Terre Parrish of Montana, Scott and Michele Parish of Ball Ground, Brian and Amanda Parish of Newburn, Ga., and Corey and Treena Parish of Tate. Sisters and brothers in law include Sarah and Roy Cobb of Dawsonville and Edith and Ron Parrish of Dahlonega. 11 grandchildren also survive.

Doris J. O’Connor Hiller
Doris J. O’Connor Hiller was born
on April 19, 1921, at Wappingers Falls, NY, the daughter of Alfred and Laura Hunt.
She graduated from Arlington High School, Poughkeepsie, NY, in 1936. She graduated in 1941 from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, Poughkeepsie, with a diploma; graduated with a BSN degree from the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, Lexington in 1963, and in 1972 with a Master’s degree from the same university.
She served in the nursing profession in various capacities, served on the teaching faculty of University of Kentucky College of Nursing from 1966-71; Director of Nursing Education Staff Development at Eastern State Hospital, Lexington; served on the Nursing Faculty at Midway College, Midway, Ky,; Asst. Director in Pediatrics, Nursing Service, University of Kentucky Hospital of Lexington. In 1977 she became Associate Professor, Baccalaureate Nursing Program, of Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond, Ky., until her retirement in 1980.
She was married
to Robert O’Connor for 56 years, and with him, a chemist for IBM, traveled in various parts of Latin America and Europe. In 1980 she and Bob retired to New Bern, NC, where they lived until 1996 when they moved to Gainesville to be near members of the family. Her husband, Bob, died in 1998. A few years later she was married
to long time friend, Bill Hiller.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. Bill Hiller; two daughters and husbands: Peggy and John Jordan of Dawsonville, Patricia and Bradford Bounds of Frankfort, IL,; two stepdaughters, Valetta Fellenbaum of Virginia Beach, VA, and Cheryl Jordan of Tacoma, WA; grandsons, Matthew Bounds (wife Ashley) of Niwot, CO, Mark Jordan (wife Carin) of Atlanta; two granddaughters: Jennifer Bounds of Chicago and Julie Thiede (husband Will) of Sugar Hill, Ga.; and five great grandchildren. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Gainesville, being active in Women’s Circle, Comet Class, and Gadabouts.
Memorial services will held on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Gainesville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the memorial fund of the First Methodist Church of Gainesville, 280 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville, GA, 30506.
Miss Lola Chumbley
Miss Lola Chumbley, age 87, of 28 Turnalay Branch Rd., Dawsonville, Ga., died Sunday, August 3, 2003, at the New Horzons West Nursing Home in Gainesville, Ga. following an extended illness.
Miss Chumbley was a native of Pickens County who lived most of her life in Dawson County. She was a homemaker and member of Juno Baptist Church in Dawson County.
She was the daughter of the late William Mason and Ollie Kuykendall Chumbley and was also preceded in death by her brother, Lonnie Chumbley.
She was the last surviving member of her family. She is survived by several cousins and other relatives and several friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday August 5, 2003, at the Juno Baptist Church in Dawson County with the remains placed in state at the church at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Hugh Fields and Rev. Lawton Burt will officiate and Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Barbara A. Kenimer, 63, of Dawsonville died Tuesday July 8, 2003 at New Horizons West in Gainesville following an extended illness.
Born in Gwinnett County, she had lived in Dawson County for 24 years having moved from Buford. Kenimer was a homemaker and a member of New Life Church of God. She was preceded in death by her sons, Bobby and Gary Kenimer; parents, Garvin and Evelyn McDaniel; sister, Patsy Martin and brother, Charles McDaniel.
Survivors include, her husband, Donald Kenimer of Dawsonville; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Dennis Daniels of Dawsonville; son and his fiancÈ, William Kenimer and Sally Pacheco of Fall River, Mass.; sisters, Betty Martin of Dahlonega, Joan Holtzclaw of Gainesville, Rita Moore of Dawsonville, Pam Pargoff of Winder; brother, Terry McDaniel of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Nicole Daniels, Travis Daniels, Ashley Botelho, Jonathan Botelho, Ryan Botelho and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services were held July 10 at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Gene Hyde, Ricky Stepp and Roland Jackson presided. Interment in Island Ford Baptist Church Cemetery.

Roy Lee Bishop

Roy Lee Bishop, 85, of Suches died Friday July 11, 2003 at the Chestatee Regional Hospital in Dahlonega following an extended illness.
A native of Union County, he lived most of his life in Dawson County before moving back to Suches 4 years ago. Bishop was a retired truck driver with Swift & Company with 24 years of service. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his first wife, Ina Talley Bishop; grandson, Brian Bishop; step-grandson, Tony Wehunt; parents, Wyley and Mellie Bishop, 3 sisters and 3 brothers. Survivors include, wife, Mary Louise Hensley Bishop of Suches; daughter, Diane Bishop Reprecht of Cherry Log, Ga.; sons, Glenn Bishop of Suches, Ted Bishop, David Bishop, and Donal Bishop, all of Dawsonville, Paul James Bishop of Guntersville, Ala.; sister, Gertrude Flannagan of Gainesville; 16 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and a number of other relatives.

Rev. Donald Anderson
Died July 8, 2003
The Rev. Donald Anderson, 35, of Canton died Tuesday July 8, 2003. Anderson was a member of the New Hightower Baptist Church and was a coach in the Cherokee Little League area. Anderson was a Travel Coach for the Cherokee County Little League Baseball Travel Team and he also coached Teasley Middle School teams, football and basketball in the Barnett Park League.
Survivors include, his wife, Laura Anderson; sons, Blake and Cole Anderson, all of Canton; mother, Dorothy Chambers of Acworth; father, Ray Anderson of Kennesaw; brother, Tony Anderson of Canton; sisters, Debby Shippee of Ball Ground, Teresa Wagner of Acworth and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services were held July 12 at the New Hightower Baptist Church. The Revs. David Abernathy and Willard Wilson presided. Interment in the church cemetery. Sosebee Funeral Home of Canton handled arrangements.
