Annie Sue Floyd

Annie Sue Dockery Floyd, 76, of 311 Mewborn Road in Dewy Rose died March 31, 2004, at Hospice House of Anderson, S.C.

A native of Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late W.V. Dockery and Ruth Dockery.

She was a retired seamstress with Hartwell Company and a member of Redwine United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by a brother, William Dockery; and two sisters, Mildred Dockery and Evelyn Freeman.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Floyd of the home; two sons, James Larry Floyd of Elberton and Terry Wayne Floyd of Canon; a daughter, Brenda Stinchcomb of Lawrence-ville; two brothers, Franklin Dockery of Royston and Junior Dockery of Liberty, S.C.; two sisters, Linda Howell of Hartwell and Frances Bennett of Bowman; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Durham officiating.

Burial was in Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell was in charge of arrangements.

Callie Smith

Callie Corene Yeargin Smith, 70, of 177 S. Thomas St. in Elberton died March 29, 2004, at Elbert Memorial Hospital.

A native of Elbert County, she was a daughter of the late Ewell Snoe and Flora Eva Hall Yeargin.

She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lindsey Howard "L.H." Smith, and a son, Alex Hoyt James Jr.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen Jordan of Calhoun Falls, S.C.; two sons, Joe James of Abbeville, S.C., and Mike James of Iva, S.C.; a brother, George Yeargin of Elberton; three sisters, Rudell Y. Evans of Elberton, Laura Y. Stone of Abbeville, S.C., and Betty Y. Harrell of Fort Worth, Texas ; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services were held Thursday at Forest Hills Memorial Park with the Rev. Duane Holcombe officiating.

Hicks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Perrin

Mary Birdie Perrin, 102, of Canton, Ohio, died Aug. 25, 2004.

A native of McCormick, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Savannah Powell and Singleton McIntosh.

She was a member of Bethel Grove Baptist Church and Shiloh Baptist Church in Madison County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Perrin; two sons, John Dan Perrin and Willie Charlie Perrin, and a son who died at birth.

Survivors include four daughters and three sons-in-law, Mammie Vance, Geneva and Marvin Newkirk, Martha and George Verdell and Zula and Charles Reeves, all of Canton, Ohio; and four sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Laura Lee Perrin, James and Matilda Perrin, Otha and Alberta Perrin and Veron and Rochelle Perrin, all of Elberton.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m.at Bethel Baptist Grove Baptist Church.

Billy Williams

Billy Warren Williams, 61, of 2315 Williams Drive in Bowman died Aug. 25, 2004, at Athens Regional Medical Center.

A native of Clarke County, he was a son of the late Willie Warren "Rat" Williams and Hilda Bryant Williams. He was a troubleshooter with Tenneco Automotive and was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Jeanette Bellew Williams of Bowman; a son, Warren W. Williams of Bowman; two brothers, Ted Williams and Herron Williams, both of Bowman; a sister, Betty Ann Parker of Bowman; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday at Rehoboth Baptist Church with the Rev. Darrell Gilmer and the Rev. Tommy Cleveland officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Pruitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Hughey

Mary Monaco Hughey, 79, of Elberton died Aug. 25, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens.

A native of Tampa, Fla., she was a daughter of the late Francesco Monaco and Francesca Provenzans Monaco. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Elbert Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was a retired school teacher. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Rose Giglio and Angie Perez.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and David Jameson of Elberton and Betty and Howard Tanner of Austin, Texas ; a son and daughter-in-law, David L. and Louanne Hughey of Little Rock, Ark.; a brother, Tom Monaco of Florida; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Fenlon and the Rev. David Hughey officiating. Burial was in Elmhurst Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Hispanic mission.

Pallbearers were Mark Daniel, Bill Tindal, Roger McCannon, Rod Daniel, Sam Padgett and Bill Bennett. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Lauree Sunday School class and the Hispanic mission.

Berry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Walter Langston

Walter Matthew Langston of 2027 Charles Yeargin Road in Elberton died Aug. 24, 2004, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.

A native of Hart County, he was a son of the late Walter Essay Langston and Rosetta Langston Almond. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Bowman. He was employed with Tenneco Automotive in Hartwell for more than 20 years.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Langston of Elberton; his stepfather, Johnny Roy Almond of Bowman; four sons, Jasper Huff, Patrick Huff, Dwayne Huff and Roderick Huff, all of Elberton; three daughters, Renee Hester and Michelle Carter, both of Elberton, and Kelly Walker of Atlanta; a sister, Evelyn Kyles of Atlanta; three brothers, Eddie Langston of Atlanta, Bobby Langston of Gainesville and Frankie Langston of Knoxville, Tenn.; two stepsisters, Kathy Almond of Bowman and Lagreta Mattox of Hartwell; and a stepbrother, Terry Almond of Elberton.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Mac Hughes officiating. Burial was in Lincoln Heights Cemetery.

C.W. Phelps Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Michael Mills

Michael Edwin Mills, 52, of Austell died Aug. 23, 2004, at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.

A son of Frances K. Mills of Watkinsville and the late Ned Mills, he was a former resident of Elberton.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include a daughter, Ansley Mills of Elberton; and a sister, Linda Ray of Athens.

A memorial service was held at Southcare Funeral Home in Marietta.

Sybil Turner

Sybil Craft Turner, 88, of 1340 Turner Road in Elberton died Aug. 24, 2004, at Hart County Hospital.

A native of Hart County, she was a daughter of the late James Seaborn Craft and Martha Alice Powell Craft. She was retired from Hartwell Company and was a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church and the UMW. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude A. Turner; four brothers, Mack Craft, Jim Craft, Bernice Craft and Frank Craft; and a sister, Opal Locke.

Survivors include two sons, Steve A. Turner and L. Michael Turner, both of Elberton; a daughter, Claudine T. Sims of Duluth; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services were held Thursday at New Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Nancy Morgan officiating.

Strickland Funeral Home in Hartwell was in charge of arrangements.

Kathleen Weant

Kathleen Acker Weant, 83, of Salisbury, N.C., died Aug. 22, 2004 at Carillon Assisted Living.

A native of Elberton, she was a daughter of the late Newton H. and Grace Taylor Acker. She was educated in the Elberton schools and Atlanta Business College. She was employed at the former Guyes Department Store in downtown Salisbury for many years.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Theodore Franklin Weant Jr.; two sons Theodore Franklin Weant III of Salisbury, N.C., and Daniel Newton Weant of Cary, N.C.; two daughters Lynda Kathleen Fowler of Canton, Ohio, and Elaine Weant Canup of Salisbury, N.C.; two brothers, Joe and Nathan Acker, both of Elberton; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Aug. 25 at Summersett Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dan Gobble officiating. Burial was in Chestnut Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Rowan Relay for Life, 6000 Fairview Road, Suite 200, Charlotte, NC 28210.

Parker Smith

Parker Benton Smith, 92, of Decatur died Aug. 18, 2004, at his home.

A son of Parker Burgess Smith and Julia Wilson Smith, he was a former resident of Elberton. He was retired from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, having served in game management and law enforcement. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bess Walton Smith.

Survivors include a son, George B. Smith of Decatur; and two daughters, Olivia of Lilburn and Anne Smith of Atlanta.

The body was cremated.

Dessie Payton

Dessie Jane Tate Payton, 44, of 1749 Athens Highway in Elberton died Aug. 28, 2004, at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

A native of Anderson, S.C., she was a daughter of the Lee Onnie Dickerson Tate of Elberton and the late Jeff Tate. She was a homemaker and of the Holiness faith. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Miranda Payton.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Roger Payton of the home; two daughters, Crystal Bond and Heather Montgomery, both of Elberton; a son, Jeffery Payton of Elberton; a brother, Don Tate of Elberton; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held today at 3 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. George Moon and the Rev. Douglas Huff officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mark Wade, Carl Farmer, Richard Griggs, Charles Sturges, George Willoughby, Darryl Moon, Jeff Tiller and Gerald Virgilio.

Berry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Julia Maples

Julia S. Maples, 82, of Lake Jackson, Texas , died Aug. 24, 2004, at her home.

A native of Elbert County, she was a daughter of the late C.T. Tabor Smith and Winnie Snellings Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Maples.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Mona and Chris Gallion and Francine and David Stoltenberg, all of Lake Jackson, Texas ; a brother and sister-in-law, George and Virginia Smith; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Winnie Mae and Bob Fox, Kathlene Trippe, Irene and Cope Butler, all of Elberton, and Eleanor Wilson of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday at the First Baptist Church in Lake Jackson, Texas , with the Rev. Ed Webber and Dr. John Haten officiating.
