James Smith
SWAINSBORO - Services for James Hoyle Smith will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary with burial in Corinth Methodist Church, near Adrian. Smith, 80, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000. An Army veteran of World War II, he received the Purple Heart, Victory Medal, Bronze Arrowhead, American Defense Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Service Medal. He was retired from Robins Air Force Base.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Smith; children Jan Cook of Swainsboro and Sue Morris of Savannah; brothers, William Smith of Warner Robins and Donald Smith of Adrian; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Henry Soles
WARNER ROBINS - Services for Henry L. Soles will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in All Saints Episcopal Church with entombment in Magnolia Park Mausoleum. Soles, 76, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, after a long illness. He was born in Gantt, Ala., son of the late Elonzo and Dela Lee Soles. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, having received the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He was retired from civil service at Robins Air Force Base. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle G. Soles; children Raylon Soles of Macon, Keith Soles of Atlanta, Shelia May of Warner Robins, Beverly Soles of Byron and Renee Pilzer of Marietta; brother and sisters, Robert Soles and Katherine Butler, both of Gantt, Helen Gantt of Andalusia, Ala., and Ruby Berg-Stresser of Oxnard, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Christopher-Smith Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Hugh Sutton
EASTMAN - Services for Hugh M. Sutton will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Bay Springs Cemetery. Sutton, 77, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000. Son of the late Charles and Clera Sutton, he was a World War II Army veteran. The widower of Bessie Sutton, he was a retired carpenter. He was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include his sisters and brother Thelma Powell and Mary Thompson, both of Macon, Alma Powell of Roberta and Hembree Sutton of Lizella.

The family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. Monday in Horne Funeral Home.

Grover Sweet
EASTMAN - Services for Grover Boyd Sweet will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Henry Funeral Home, Staunton, Va., with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery. Sweet, 68, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000. He was born in Augusta, son of the late Stuart and Mary Sweet. A retired watchmaker, he was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Survivors include his children Aleta Clem of Eastman and David Sweet of Summerville, S.C.; sister and brother, Mary Hemp and Clyde Sweet of Staunton; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Henry Funeral Home. Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Nancy Wells
SYCAMORE - Services for Nancy Owen Wells will be at 3 p.m. today in Bethel Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Wells, 80, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, in a Canton nursing home after a long illness. She was born in Turner County, daughter of the late George A. and Marietta L. Owen. The widow of Clarence Roy Wells, she was a retired schoolteacher, having taught for 45 years. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Kay W. Halpin of Canton; sisters Exa Donahoo and Erma Denham, both of Sycamore; and two grandchildren.

Perry Funeral Chapel in Ashburn has charge of arrangements.

Ruben Anthes
Services for Ruben Alexander Anthes will be private. Anthes, 17, died Monday, June 5, 2000. Born in Welland, Ontario, he was a student at Windsor Academy.
Survivors include mother and stepfather, Valerie and Robert Brewster, both of Macon; father, Timothy Anthes of Welland; sister, Desiree Anthes of Macon; grandparents, Isobel and Konard Elgner of Port Colborne, Ontario, Marie Anthes of Welland, Ontario, Raymond and Judy Brewster of Amherst, N.Y., Pearl Brewster of Newfane, N.Y. and great-grandmother, Mary Domik of Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

McArthur Brown
MONTEZUMA - Services for McArthur Brown will at at noon Saturday in New Hope Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Brown, 56, died Sunday, June 11, 2000. Born in Crisp County, he was the son of the late Hanson Brown Sr. He was a member and deacon at New Hope Baptist Church and served in the Vietnam War. He was formerly employed as a teacher in Colquitt, Baldwin and Calhoun counties. In Macon County, he was assistant principal at Macon County High School. He later became principal at Douglass High School in Macon County, and retired in 1999 as associate principal of Macon County High School. He was a member of the National Education Association, Georgia Association of Educators (past local president and state delegate), National Association of Secondary School Principals, Georgia Association of Educational Leaders, Trustee of DOPE Ministries, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. and Phi Delta Kappa International Education Fraternity.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene Brown; children, Chandra Brown of Athens and Nicholas Brown of Montezuma; mother, Effie Mae Brown of Byromville; sisters and brothers, Bertha Paramore of Orlando, Fla., Martha Medlock of Warner Robins, Hanson Brown Jr. and Kenneth Brown, both of Bridgehampton, N.Y., James Brown of Sag Harbor, N.Y., and Walter Brown of Vienna.

A memorial service will be held Friday at New Hope Baptist Church from 7 to 8 p.m. West's Mortuary of Montezuma has charge of arrangements.

Teresa Childres
ROBERTA - Services for Teresa Gail Leverett Childres will be at 11 a.m. today in Roberta City Cemetery. Childres, 44, died Tuesday, June 15, 2000. She was a dental lab technician.

Survivors include her husband, Freddie Childres; children Ricky Jackson, Wendy Ferrell and Chad Childres, all of Roberta; mother, Virginia Hortman of Roberta; brother and sister Bubba Leverett of Milledgeville and Deborah Wainwright of Roberta; and four grandchildren.

Goddard Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Jesse Collins Sr.
Services for Jesse J. Collins Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Collins, 79, died Monday, June 12, 2000. He was a woodyard foreman, retired from Georgia Kraft after 38 years and was a member of Avondale Baptist Church.

Survivors include his children, Carolyn C. Griggs of Macon, Jesse Collins Jr. of Byron and Ronald Collins of Columbus; brother and sisters, Tom Collins of South Carolina, Grace Collins of Florence, S.C., and Emily Rhoten of Columbia, S.C.; half brothers and half sister, Metford Collins Jr., Wardie Collins and Marjorie Collins, all of South Carolina; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Snow's Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue, and may be contacted at 177 Red Oak Road, Byron 31008. Memorials may be made to Mikado Baptist Church Building Fund, 6751 Houston Road, Macon 31216.

Nell Daniel
SANDERSVILLE - Services for Nell Daniel will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Evening Light Church of God with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Daniel, 94, died Monday, June 12, 2000. She was a homemaker and member of Evening Light Church of God.

Survivors include her sister, Lillie Arline of Philadelphia; and grandchildren, Betty Heath, Henry Daniel of Atlanta, Dave Daniel Jr., Georgia Daniel of Tennille, Sandra Smith of Augusta, and Bernice Roberts and Lily Bloodsaw, both of Sandersville.

M.C. Smith Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Anna Daves
BOLINGBROKE - Services for Anna Knight Daves will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Decatur Cemetery. Daves, 93, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000. She graduated from Agnes Scott College and the Emory University Library School. She held positions as children's librarian at the New York Public Library, Atlanta Carnegie Library and Westminster Schools. She was a member of Holly Trinity Episcopal Church, was a chapter leader and volunteered in the church library. She was a member of the Agnes Scott College Alumnae Association.

Survivors include her children Elizabeth Daves Ream of Macon and Walter Francis Daves of Habersham County; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army. Hart's Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

Samuel Dawkins
DEXTER - Services for Samuel Davis Dawkins will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Adams Funeral Home, Dublin, with burial in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Dawkins, 91, died Tuesday, June 13, 2000. He was a member of Dexter United Methodist Church. He was the widower of Martha Dawkins.

Survivors include his sisters, Pauline Fordham and Eudora Perry, both of Dublin.

The family may be contacted at 300 Pinehurst Drive.

Lester Dixon
JESUP - Services for Lester Dixon will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Miles Funeral Home, Hazlehurst, with burial in Hazlehurst City Cemetery. Dixon, 77, died Tuesday, June 13, 2000. He was a World War II veteran and a cabinet maker.

Survivors include his children, Wanda Elton of Hazlehurst, Sharon Sheffield of Screven and Mike Dixon of Jesup; sisters and brothers, Elizabeth Rowell of Hazlehurst, Pearl Livingston and Barney R. Dixon, both of Jacksonville, Fla., Lorene Dixon of Blackville, S.C., and Cecil Dixon of Casselberry, Fla.; and several grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 6 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Johnny Ferguson
PASADENA, Calif. - Services for Johnny Ray Ferguson will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Macon Memorial Park. Ferguson died Monday, June 12, 2000. He graduated from Mercer University and Walter F. George School of Law. He received his master's degree as a law librarian from the University of Michigan and worked as a law librarian in Los Angeles.

Survivors include his mother, Willie Mae Ferguson of Macon; and sister Pauline Miles of Macon.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Hart's Mortuary, Macon.
