Curtis Waller

Curtis Waller, 57, of Eatonton, departed this life Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Athens Regional Medical Center, Athens, after an extended illness.
He was born March 6, 1953, in Eatonton to Louise Waller and the late Mr. Earnest Waller.
He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior and was a faithful member of St. John A.M.E. Church, where he served as a steward and a member of the Male Choir. He accepted the calling to become a minister in 2008, until his health began to fail.
Mr. Waller was a 1973 high school graduate. He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Ellison.
Throughout his life, he was employed with several different agencies, but his most enjoyment came from being an entrepreneur. He was the owner and operator of Waller and Sons Plumbing and Carpet Cleaning Service.
He spent his leisure time with family and friends. He enjoyed cooking and sharing his famous dish, Brunswick stew. He also took pleasure in fishing and hunting.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted and loving wife; five children, Felecia Watkins (Mark) of Milledgeville, Taira, Curtis (Veronica) of Eatonton, Tonya Davis (Roy) of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Britney Jackson of Savannah; grandchildren, Tia and Mark (“J”), whom he raised as his own, Key-aja, Paige, Destiny, Kaitlyn and Faith; his devoted mother; six brothers, James (Mary), Humphries (Letha), Forest (Eva), Calvin, William (Venita), Terrance (Hazel), all of Eatonton; one sister, Cynthia (Milton) of Eatonton; a loving mother-in-law, Addie Ellison; two sisters-in-law, Florrie Williams and Sue Waller; a brother-in-law, Samuel Ellison (Naola) of Macon; two special nephews, Barry C. Monday, Christopher “Pookie” Waller; a special niece, Belinda Mills; a host of loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; a very special and loyal friend, Deacon Curtis Ellison; and three other special friends, Pastor Wayne Griffin Sr., Ruth Ellison and Lucinda Andrews. Special thanks to a faithful cousin, Freddie Lee Humphries and the Greater Bell Chapel and St. John A.M. E. Church Families.
Mr. Waller was preceded in death by his father, Earnest Sr.; two brothers, Earnest Jr., and Foster Waller; and one sister, Cathy Waller.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Greater Bell’s Chapel Baptist Church, 670 Oconee Springs Road, Eatonton. The Rev. Gregory Ellison, Pastor, and the Rev. Wayne Griffin Sr., officiated. Burial was in East Eatonton City cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.
Bernard’s Family Funeral Care, LLC, 103 Willie Bailey Street, Eatonton, was in charge of arrangements.

Patricia Elizabeth Denniss Hodson

Patricia Elizabeth Denniss Hodson, 69, of Greensboro passed away Friday, March 12, 2010.
She was born in Yeadon, Yorkshire, England, Aug. 11, 1940, to the late Fred Naylor Denniss and Joyce Bray Denniss.
She graduated from high school in England and married Ernest Hodson Aug. 27, 1960, at St. Pauls Church in Walsall, England.
The couple moved to Northern Ireland in 1968 and to Hudson, Ohio, in 1982. They have lived in Greensboro since 1998.
Mrs. Hodson was a homemaker, enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Reynold’s Plantation Women’s Golf Association and the Plantation Ladies Club.
She is survived by her husband and her son, Graeme (Amy) Hodson of Lake Orion, Mich; and two grandchildren, Christopher Hodson and Emily Hodson. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Hodson.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church, 113 Scott Road, Eatonton with Dr. Joe King officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at the Crown Hill cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery in Twinsburg, Ohio.
The family requests memorials be made to the American Red Cross for Haiti Relief, 490 Pulaski Street, Athens 30601, Phone: 706-353-1645.

Emerson Whipple

Emerson O. Whipple, 94, of Milledgeville passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010.
Mr. Whipple was born in Ledyard, Conn. He was the son of the late Emerson and Nora Massey Whipple.
He had been a resident of Georgia since 1987. He was a graduate of the Robert E. Fitch High School in Groton, Conn., attended Mitchell College, and completed a course in piano tuning and repair at the Pierce School of Piano Technology in Boston, Mass. He was the former owner of the Whipple Piano and Organ Co. in Groton for 20 years.
Mr. Whipple was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, serving as a Yeoman 2nd class at a Navy air facility in Brazil. He was a member of the Friendship Bible Chapel in Eatonton. A violinist, he played in a number of churches in the area. He was a dedicated Christian and a student of Bible prophecy.
He is survived by his wife Alice Mardelle Whipple of Milledeville; daughter Jacalyn (Robert) Tollmann of Albany, Vt.; grandson Chad (Jennifer) Tollmann of Albany, Vt.; great- granddaughter Mollee Ann Tollmann of Albany, Vt.; two brothers: Stanley W. Whipple and Russell P. Whipple of Connecticut; two sisters Margery Rabon of Connecticut and Loraine Patterson of Florida; step daughter Kathy Combs of Illinois; and step sons Carl Hieber of Eatonton and Mike Hieber of Roswell.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Rand and Dorothy Loftus.
A graveside service was held Sunday in Baldwin Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Tim Oliver officiating.
Williams Funeral Home & Crematory of Milledgeville was in charge of arrangements.

Evalyn Maddox

Evalyn Maddox, 91, of Eatonton died Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at a hospital in Athens.
She was born in Putnam County and was the daughter of the late Rosser Waller and Willie Azalee Chesson.
Mrs. Maddox was married to the late Harry A. Maddox.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her children, Homer Massey, Will Ann (Carlton) Driscoll, Armor (Connie) Maddox, Lee Maddox, Becky Doster and Buddy (Alice) Maddox; grandchildren, Bobby Massey, Michelle Robling, Patty Lynn Ratcliff, Julie Driscoll Hommel, Kathleen Driscoll McCarmick, Dr. Danny Driscoll, Rebecca Doster Kelly, Melissa Lynn Maune, Tonya Michelle Scott and Lauren Ashley Maddox.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel, 105 Lower Harmony Road, Eatonton. Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Araret cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery. The Rev. Mike Willard will officiate.
Memorial contributions can be made to Philadelphia Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.

James Leroy Armour Sr.

James Leroy Armour Sr., 66, of Monticello, a former Eatonton resident and businessman, died Monday, May 24, 2010, at Landmark Hospital in Athens.
Mr. Armour was born in Buckhead, the son of Susan Alberta Conner Armour of Monticello and the late James Richard Armour.
He moved to Monticello in 1956. After graduating from Pharmaceutical School at the University of Georgia in 1967, he worked for Jacobs Pharmacy in Thomasville about two years. After leaving Thomasville, he moved to Eatonton, and worked for Shoppers Pharmacy for a number of years. He owned and operated Connally’s Drug Store in Eatonton until retirement in 1995.
He was a member of Smithboro Baptist Church in Monticello. He was a University of Georgia Alumni and an Eatonton Kiwanis Club member.
Father, James Richard Armour; and brother and sister, Larry Richard Armour and Elizabeth Jane Armour, all preceded him in death.
Besides his mother, Mr. Armour is survived by his children, Andrea Armour Fuller of Eatonton and Lee Armour of Monticello; grandchildren, Ashlen Elizabeth Fuller, Sterling Peyton Fuller, James Mitchell Fuller, Justin Caleb Armour, and Jordan Alexis Armour; and brother, Ronnie (Arlene) Gene Armour Sr. of Milledgeville.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.Wednesday at Jordan Funeral Home in Monticello.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Smithboro Baptist Church in Monticello. Burial will be held in Buckhead City cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery in Buckhead. Dr. Dale Parker and Dr.Jeff Pangle will officiate.
Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Conner, Bobby Gene Conner, Doug Shaw, Cordy Batchelor, Billy Whitte, and Kenneth Pope.
Jordan Funeral Home of Monticello is in charge of arrangements.

Violet Carmanni

Funeral services for Violet Bass Carmanni of Watkinsville, formerly of Milledgeville, were held Tuesday morning at Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Milledgeville.
Mrs. Carmanni was a native of Baldwin County. She had worked at J.P Stevens and McGaw Lab for a number of years. She lived in Watkinsville for the past several years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Milledgeville.
Survivors include her daughters, Karen (Lamar) Callaway of Watkinsville and Betty Joyce “BJ” (Pete) Rice of Greensboro; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildre.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra Carmanni Bloodworth.

Katy Elizabeth Farley

Katy Elizabeth Farley, 77, departed this life Monday morning, May 17, 2010, at Putnam General Hospital, Eatonton, after a lengthy illness.
She was born April 27, 1933, in Eatonton to the late Mr. William Farley, Sr. and the late Mrs. Lula Bell Farley.
She attended St. Luke Community School and joined the St. Luke AME Church at an early age where she was a faithful member. She worked many years in the community in domestic services, later devoting her services as a caretaker. She cared for her parents and grandchildren, which she truly enjoyed. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Wesley (Laura) Farley; three daughters, Catherine Harden, Lynda Farley and Sandy (Rodney) Crawford, all of Eatonton; four brothers, William Farley Sr., of Decatur, Roy (Annie) Farley of West Palm Beach, Fla., Ernest (Darlene) Farley of Vera Beach, Fla., George (Petronia) Farley of Eatonton; one sister, Miss Mammie Lou Farley of Atlanta; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives and friends, including her wonderful care givers of many years, Lynelle Harris and Laura Farley, whose love and devotion is greatly appreciated by the family.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Lottie Ruth Farley, and two brothers, James Farley and Robert Farley.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Clements Chapel Methodist Church, 583 Gray Road, Eatonton. Pastor Mamie Caldwell officiating. Burial was in St. Luke AME Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Eatonton.

Betty Jean Key

Betty Jean Key, 63, of Eatonton passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010 at a local hospital.
She was the wife of Cleveland Roby Key, to whom she had been married 41 years.
Mrs. Key was born in Greensboro. She was the daughter of the late James and Juanita Powell Barnett of Oconee County, and the granddaughter of Joseph and Alice Barnett, Arnie and Thelma Powell, all of Oconee County
She graduated from Greene County High School in 1965 and graduated from Dudley Hughs School of Nursing in 1970.
Betty’s young life was spent working on her family’s farm and dairy, she also worked at the cotton mill, sock mill, short-order cook, nurses assistant at Green Point Nursing Home and Putnam General Hospital, home sitting for the elderly. She worked for 40 years in the case- management at Putnam General Hospital.
She was a member of Pentecostal Holiness Church, American Red Cross, board member of Putnam Christian Outreach, advisory board member at PGH Nursing School, auxiliary member of her church, team member of March of Dimes, Cancer Survivor Walk-a-thon, Pink Ladies Auxiliary, Board Member of ABC and Oconee Valley Home Health Services.
Mrs. Key always had her door open to anyone needing a helping hand. If she didn’t have what that person needed she was on the phone to find someone to provide the services needed.
She enjoyed her flowers; fishing was her favorite sport; and she enjoyed to cook and do crafts.
She has left her love and precious memories to her husband and their son, Cleveland Askew “Happy” (Jeanna Hall) Key; a grandson, Joseph Roby Key; sisters Patricia (Boyd) McNair of Greensboro, Patsy (Melvin) Forehand of Raytown, Linda Ray Rhodes of Washington, Margaret Loveless of Union Point, and Lisa Wooten; a brother, Tommy Barnett of Eatonton; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and her hospital and emergency medical services families.
Mrs. Key was preceded in death by two brothers, James “Elmo” Elder Barnett and Joseph “Sport” Keith Barnett, both of Greensboro; a nephew, Ronnie Keith Barnett, and Seals and Berta Cawthorn.
The funeral service was held Saturday morning at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel. Burial was in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens.
Vining Ivy Hill Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Walter Eugene Hudson Jr.

Walter Eugene Hudson Jr., 70, of Eatonton died Friday, July 2, 2010.
Mr. Hudson was born July 22, 1939.
He was the beloved husband of Eddie Jean Hudson, to whom he was married for 51 years.
He also was the beloved father of four children and their spouses: Diana (Bill) Thompson, Deborah (Terrence) Shannon, Darlene Zenami and Ted (Camille) Hudson. He was Paw-Paw to grandchildren Tom and Melissa Thompson, Jon and Paula Thompson, Jessica and James Alligood, Morgan and Gustavo Santos, Kaleigh and Dusty Sidwell, Audrey and Matt Folendore, Ben and Danielle Echols, Bonnie and Brett Johnson, Lillian Echols, Jonathan and Sunshine Smith, Christopher and Nelly Hudson, Theresa and Brandon Hudson, Kayla and Matt Gentry and Courtney Hudson, and 21 great-grandchildren with three more on the way. Survivors also left to cherish are memory include two sisters, Pat (Bobby) Barron and his twin Janet (Damon) King.
The funeral service was held Monday afternoon at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel in Eatonton, which was in charge of the arrangements.
