WASHINGTON, Ga. -- John Parker Jones, 16, of 701 Beaverdam Road.

The funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Victory Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

John, a native of Clarke County, was a student at Washington-Wilkes High School and was a member of Future Farmers of America. He attended Victory Baptist Church.

Survivors include his parents, John Franklin Jones and Peggy Davis Jones, both of Washington; one brother, Charles Clayton Jones, Washington; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jones, Blairsville; and his maternal grandmother, Rua Bell Davis, Washington.

Pallbearers will be Jim West, Joey Collins, Richard Davis, Fred Oliver, Ron Bright, Tom Sosebee, Ralph Bray, Jimmy Russell, Danny Young, Nolan Burrell and Mike Teem.

Memorials may be made to John Parker Jones Emergency Rescue Aid Fund, c/o the Farmers and Merchants Bank, P.O. Box 280, Washington, GA 30673.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hopkins Funeral Home.

Miss Gayle Kemp

SWAINSBORO, Ga. -- Miss Gayle Lynn Kemp, 52, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at Emanuel Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary with the Rev. Cail Pressey officiating. Burial will be in Hawhammock Baptist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Miss Kemp, a native of Emanuel County, was a resident of Modoc Group Home.

Survivors include one brother, Charles Kemp; and one sister, Barbara Kemp, Aiken.

Mr. Burgess Lord

Farmer

HARRISON, Ga. -- Mr. Burgess Wesley Lord, 83, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Washington County Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Bethany Baptist Church, Washington County, with the Rev. R.J. Lott and Kenneth Brantley, elder, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mr. Lord, a native of Washington County, was a farmer and a member of Bethany Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife, Allene B. Lord; two daughters, Patricia L. Hursey, Macon, and Shelba L. Price, Bartow; two sisters, Myrtle L. Meeks, Sandersville, and Helen L. Johnson, Oconee; and three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Helton Johnson, Royce Lord, Jimmy Lord, G.R. Lord, Phillip Boatright and Bernard Meeks.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Bethany Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Richard and Joyce Stanley Funeral Home, Wrightsville.

Mrs. Arvell Peebles

Homemaker

Mrs. Arvell Thigpen Peebles, 78, of 3551 Mike Padgett Highway, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Platt's Funeral Home, Crawford Avenue, with the Rev. Allen Olive officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Peebles, a native of Glascock County, Ga., was a homemaker and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, Gibson, Ga.

The family said she was devoted to her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include four sons, Jessie S. Peebles and Jerry Wade Peebles, both of Augusta, Gary Wayne Peebles, North Augusta, and Ronnie Dwight Peebles, Acworth, Ga.; three daughters, Carlene P. Streets and Linda P. Overton, both of Augusta, and JoAnn P. Boyd, Aiken; two brothers, R.W. Thigpen, Gibson, and Leroy Thigpen, Mitchell, Ga.; two sisters, Myrtis Dye, North Augusta, and Leslie Guy, Martinez; and 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tony Sharp, Brian Boyd, Mark Streets, Ronnie Peebles Jr., Chris Johnson and Jim Crace.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Myrtle Price

Homemaker

WRIGHTSVILLE, Ga. -- Mrs. Myrtle Martin Price, 96, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Tucker's Grove Holiness Church with the Revs. Jimmy Smith and Ty Sorrow officiating. Burial will be in Westview cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Price, a native and lifelong resident of Johnson County, was a homemaker and a member of Tucker's Grove Holiness Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Elizabeth Paul and Lyndal Price, both of Wrightsville, Angellette Reid, Macon, and Frances Grimsley, Albany; one brother, Lamar Martin, Louisville; two sisters, Pauline Tanner and Susie Herringdine, both of Wrightsville; and eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Len Sumner Jr., Kevin Sumner, Bruce Price, Devin Price, Larry Grimsley and Terry Grimsley.

Richard and Joyce Stanley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. James Reaves

Retired businessman

EDGEFIELD, S.C. -- Mr. James R. Reaves, 81, of 601 Columbia Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at Edgefield County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home with the Rev. Larue Downing officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.

Mr. Reaves, a native of Rhine, Ga., was retired as co-owner of Western Auto, Edgefield, and was a farmer. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II.

Survivors include one brother, William D. Reaves, Rhine.

Pallbearers will be John Henry Ryan, Edjar Lamb, Mike Reaves, John W. Byrd, Dennis Miller and Gary Blagg.

Friends may call at the residence or the funeral home.

Mr. Joseph Samaroo

Retiree

Mr. Joseph Osram Samaroo, 62, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown, with the Rev. Gene Norris officiating.

Mr. Samaroo, a native of Guyana, Ga., had retired and was a Presbyterian.

The family said he was a devoted father and husband.

Survivors include his wife, Lynette Samaroo; five sons, Sterling Samaroo and Tracy Samaroo, both of Martinez, Erol Samaroo, New Jersey, and Joel Samaroo, Baltimore; three daughters, Karen Samaroo, Martinez, Carol Samaroo, New Jersey, and Judy Samaroo, Arizona; eight sisters, Hilda Ishmael and Doris Mill, both of Canada, Helen Jagnandan, Augusta, Elieen Godin, Virginia, Jean McClain, Guyana, Sheila Beharry, New York, Dora Zephyr, Los Angeles, and Ramona Ahmed, Pakistan; and 10 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today and Friday at Thomas L. King Funeral Home.

Mrs. Medrew Slayton

Homemaker

AIKEN -- Mrs. Medrew Clark Slayton, 83, of 1178 Wire Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Central Baptist Church with the Revs. Bill Archer and Fred W. Andrea III officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mrs. Slayton, a native of Windsor, was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church, where she was a member of women's missionary union. She was a member of the Aiken Baptist Association and a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church, Graniteville.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin G. Slayton; two sons, Edward Wayne Slayton, Tybee Island, Ga., and Marvin Drew Slayton, Aiken; one daughter, Bonnie Lee Slayton Pattison, Aiken; one brother, E. Garland Clark, Arlington, Texas; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Herman Padgett, Charles Eubank, David Plunkett, Charles Bell, Olin Berry Jr. and Ward Clark.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Lady Three Sunday School and Couples Sunday School classes of Central Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Hitchcock Hospice, 721 Richland Ave., Aiken, SC 29801.

Mr. Marion Thurmond

Retired principal

WALLINGFORD, Pa. -- Mr. Marion Shad Thurmond, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, in Philadelphia.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Augusta, with the Rev. Larry Hudson officiating.

Mr. Thurmond, a native of Augusta, was a retired principal and a member of St. Carthage Catholic Church, Philadelphia. He was a former member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Augusta, and a 1953 graduate of Lucy C. Laney High School.

Survivors include one son, Peter J. Thurmond; one daughter, Deidria E. Thurmond; two brothers, Augustus C. Thurmond and Floyd Searles, both of Augusta; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church Building Fund, 623 Crawford Ave., Augusta, GA 30904.

W.H. Mays Mortuary, Augusta, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Daisey Walker

Mrs. Daisey Walker, of 1428 Mills St., died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Noah's Ark Baptist Church, Keysville, Ga., with the Revs. Karlton Howard and J.J. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Gough cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Keysville.

Mrs. Walker, a native of Burke County, was a homemaker and a member of Noah's Ark Baptist Church.

Survivors include four stepsons, Price Walker, Columbus, Ga., Leroy Walker, Louisville, Ga., Donald Walker, Deerfield, Fla., and Robert Walker, Augusta; and four stepdaughters, Bernice Williams and Cora Walker, both of Waynesboro, Ga., Louvinia Wright, Louisville, and Elizabeth Johnson, Rock Island, N.C.

Friends may call at the residence of Charles Brown, 212 King Mill Road, Wrens, Ga.

The family will receive friends at 6 p.m. today at Carter's Mortuary, Waynesboro.
