Mrs. Blanche SacreMrs. Blanche Oswald Sacre died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, in Atlanta.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Magnolia cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Survivors include a son, William D. Sacre, Whidbey Island, Wash.; a daughter, Betty S. Hitz, Atlanta; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery following the service.

Lowndes and McLane Funeral Home, Tucker, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ava Smith

Retired bookkeeper

WAYNESBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Ava Brown Smith, 88, of 115 Brentwood Drive, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at Burke County Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Bulloch Memorial Gardens, Statesboro, with the Rev. Alan Garbutt officiating.

Mrs. Smith, a native of Pottsville, Pa., was a former resident of Bulloch County and had lived in Burke County for eight years. She had retired from Marydell Styles, Statesboro, as a bookkeeper. She was a Methodist.

Survivors include two sons, David R. Smith and John H. Smith, both of Sardis; a sister, Mary Fulks, Wilmington, Del.; and two grandchildren.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the residence.

DeLoach Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Thelma Thompson

Retired store manager

LAURENS, S.C. -- Mrs. Thelma Stewart Thompson, 89, of Wilson Street, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, in Edgefield Health Care Center, Edgefield.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Lawn cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Thompson, a native of Pelham, Ga., had retired from Cato's of Laurens as a manager. She was a member of Goldstar and Central United Methodist Church of Laurens.

Survivors include a son, Claud M. Thompson Jr., Augusta; two brothers, James T. Stewart, Springfield, Va., and Frank B. Stewart, Jacksonville, Fla.; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence of Virginia Lyon, 203 Lake St.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Kennedy Mortuary.

Mr. Leonard Tindal Sr.

Retired truck driver

Mr. Leonard Leroy Tindal Sr., of 2325 Rutherford Ave., died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Haven-Munnerlyn United Methodist Church, Waynesboro, Ga., with the Rev. E.C. Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Burton Chapel cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Munnerlyn, Ga.

Mr. Tindal, a native of Burke County, Ga., had retired from McKinney Concrete Service Co. Inc. as a truck driver. He was a member of Haven-Munnerlyn United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Tindal; a son, Leonard Tindal Jr., London; four daughters, Deborah Ann Brooks, Lenora Tindal, Cassandra Morgan and Kiwanda Tindal, all of Augusta; a brother, Thomas Tindal, Rochester, N.Y.; three sisters, Violet Williams, Newark, N.J., Janette Tindal, Waynesboro, and Vivian Russell, New Haven, Conn.; and 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.

Friends may call at the residence, at the residence of Janette Tindal, 271 Childers Circle, Waynesboro, or at Phinazee and Son Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Mrs. Doris Weltch

Artist

Mrs. Doris Simmons Weltch, 87, of 1320 Highland Ave., died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity-on-the-Hill United Methodist Church with Dr. David B. Jones officiating. Private burial will be in Westover Memorial Park.

Mrs. Weltch, a native of McRae, Ga., was an artist and a member of the Augusta Arts Association. She was a graduate of the University of Georgia and Augusta College. She was a member of Augusta Country Club Ladies' Golf Association, Forest Hills Garden Club, the Augusta Symphony and Trinity-on-the-Hill United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, J. William Weltch; two daughters, Jane Weltch Milligan and Frances Weltch Force, both of Augusta; a sister, Alice Simmons Randolph, Augusta; and five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Trinity-on-the-Hill United Methodist Church, 1330 Monte Sano Ave., Augusta, GA 30904.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Platt's Funeral Home, Crawford Avenue.

Mrs. Mae Whitney

Homemaker

Mrs. Mae Whitney, of 3531 Primrose Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Galilee Baptist Church with the Rev. Oscar Wells officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Whitney, a native of Barnwell County, S.C., was a homemaker and a member of Galilee Baptist Church.

Survivors include a nephew, Paul Kelly Jr., New Haven, Conn.; and two nieces, Mae Soares and Louise Joiner, both of New Haven.

Mrs. Mattie Davis

PELION, S.C. -- Mrs. Mattie Williams Davis, 91, died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at J.B. Guest Home.

The funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Davis Funeral Home, Ridge Spring, with Kenneth Conwell officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Baptist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Ridge Spring.

Survivors include three sons, William ``Bill" Davis and Clarence Davis, both of Ridge Spring, and Horace Davis, Willowgrove, Penn.

Mr. Edward Weber

Retired chemical engineer

AIKEN -- Mr. Edward J. Weber, 73, of 1496 Lyon Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward W. Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mr. Weber, a native of Truman, Ark., had lived in Aiken for 37 years. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and had retired from Dupont as a chemical engineer. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II and a member of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine Gleason Weber; two sons, John Edward Weber, Lynn Haven, Fla., and Michael Joseph Weber, San Luis Obispo, Calif.; three daughters, Patricia Willardson, Arvada, Colo., Susan Estelle Weber, Columbus, Ohio, and Mary Ann Weber, Seattle; three brothers, Eugene Weber, Milpitas, Calif., David Weber, Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Paul Weber, Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Helen Wyninegar and Martina Andre, both of Memphis; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be James Herndon, Ralph Cullinan, Jerry Cooper, Bill Jacober, Ed Albanesius, Rufus Gaddy, Christian Weber and Everett Sheldon.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of St. Mary's Traditional Choir.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Family Life Center, P.O. Box 438, Aiken, SC 29802.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 9 p.m. today at the church.

Mr. Charlie Arline

Maintenance worker

WRIGHTSVILLE, Ga. -- Mr. Charlie Arline, 79, of Route 1, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with the Rev. Benny Wright officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mr. Arline, a native of Johnson County, was a maintenance worker.

The family said he was affectionately known as ``Papa Charlie."

Survivors include three sons, Willie Arline and Ostell Arline, both of Wrightsville, and Cleveland Arline, Dublin; two daughters, Reta Mae Arline and Mildred Arline, both of Wrightsville; one brother, Jimmie Arline, Wrightsville; three sisters, Pauline Robert, Wrightsville, J.D. Pasco and Vallene Horne, both of St. Augustine, Fla.; and four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be W.C. Wood, Z.L. Roberts, James Wood Jr., Artis Shell, Ezekal Hudson and Eddie Carswell.

M.C. Smith Funeral Home, Sandersville, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Evelyn Argo

Retired insurance agent

AVERA, Ga. -- Mrs. Evelyn Argo, 58, of 14875 Clarks Mill Road, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Wrens Baptist Church with the Rev. Al Haywood officiating. Burial will be in Reedy Creek Baptist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Stapleton.

Mrs. Argo, a native of Jefferson County, was a retired insurance agent with New York Life Insurance and a member of Wrens Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas W. Argo Jr.; one daughter, Wendy Argo, Avera; two stepdaughters, Cathy Rathford, Houston, and Kimberly Kender, Louisville, Ky.; two brothers, Grady Allen, Lilburn, and Lester H. Allen, Stapleton; two sisters, Joyace I. Sheppard, Thomson, and Barbara A. Johnson, Wrens; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Glennwood Hadden, James Rogers, Brinson Linnenkohl, Thurman Walden, Tommy Sheppard and Ronnie Willoughby.

Mrs. Lillie Arrington

Retired factory worker

MATTHEWS, Ga. -- Mrs. Lillie Mae Arrington, 95, of 10126 Camp Ground Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at James and Lowe Funeral Home with the Revs. James Shope and Charles Green officiating. Burial will be in Mount Moriah United Methodist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Arrington, a native of Richmond County, was a retired factory worker and a member of Wrens Church of God.

Survivors include four sons, John Arrington, Bonair, Barry Arrington, Hephzibah, Marion ``Bud" Arrington, Wrens, and Dan Arrington, Matthews; four daughters, Mildred Ashby and Helen Odum, both of Augusta, and Mary Ellen McDonald and Sara Wasden, both of Matthews; and 28 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
