Mrs. Dorothy Watson

SALUDA, S.C. -- Mrs. Dorothy Dale Watson, 84, of Route 1, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, in Heartland Nursing Home, Austin, Texas.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Corinth Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Good Hope Lutheran Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Watson, a native of Story City, Iowa, was a member of Corinth Lutheran Church and the Women of Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Survivors include two daughters, Judith Riney, Austin, and Sharon Fjerstad, Corpus Christi, Texas.

Memorials may be made to Corinth Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, Columbia.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Ramey Funeral Home.

Mr. David Beaty

Retired pipe fitter and welder

AIKEN -- Mr. David Beaty, 80, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, at Aiken County Hospital.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Mr. Beaty, a native of Port Neches, Texas, was a pipe fitter and welder with B.F. Shaw Construction Co. He was a member of pipe Fitters and Welder Local 150 and First Baptist Church of Aiken.

Survivors include his wife, Marguerite Beaty; two daughters, Sherrie Ann Harris, Kailua, Hawaii, and Betty Flores, Reseda, Calif.; and a sister, Bernice Vickers, Port Arthur, Texas.

Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Telfair Street, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Melvin Palmer Campbell

Retired college president

RIDGE SPRING, S.C. -- Mr. Melvin Palmer Campbell, 89, of Martha Frank Retirement Center, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today, at Bethel Baptist Church, Monetta. Burial will be in Ridge Spring cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mr. Campbell, a native of Anderson County, was a graduate of Furman University and a retired president of Brewton Parker College in Mount Vernon, Ga.

Survivors include one daughter, Melvine C. Jordan, Monetta; one brother, Lafell Campbell, Jackson; one sister, Helen C. Cox, Belton; and two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, Martha Frank Retirement Center or charity of choice.

The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Jordan Jr., 5275 Columbia Ave., Monetta.

Cumbee Palmer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Kamran Akhtarkhavari

Maintenance technician

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- Mr. Kamran Akhtarkhavari, 45, of 876 Park Drive, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, at McDuffie County Hospital, McDuffie County, Ga.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Westover Memorial Park, Augusta.

Mr. Akhtarkhavari, a native of Tehran, Iran, was a maintenance technician. He was of the Baha'i faith.

Survivors include his father, Khagharow Akhtarkhavari, Iran; and a sister, Sholeh Rouhani, London.

Thomas L. King Funeral Home, Martinez, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Allen Anthony

Automobile salesman

EASLEY, S.C. -- Mr. Allen D. Anthony, 57, of 101 Crestview Road, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at Palmetto Baptist Hospital.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Pendleton Street Baptist Church with the Revs. Keith Davis and Billy Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Anthony, a native of Kershaw County, was a salesman at Dick Brooks Oldsmobile Cadillac Co., Anderson. He was a member of Bates Masonic Lodge No. 189 and Hejaz Shrine Temple. He was a member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jennifer K. Anthony; a son, Eric Anthony, Greenville; two daughters, Sandra Burke and Rhonda Anthony, both of Greenville; five brothers, William Anthony and Jack Anthony, both of Greenville, George Anthony, Murrells Inlet, Randy Anthony, Greer, and Kenneth Anthony, Montgomery, Ala.; four sisters, Nancy Smith, Camden, Billie Hunter, Kershaw, Rita Brooks, North Augusta, and Helen Anthony, Madison, Miss.; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers will be his brothers and Gary Dove.

Memorials may be made to Pendleton Street Baptist Church, 601 Pendleton St., Easley, SC 29640; or to Hospice of Greenville, 701 Grove Road, Greenville, SC 29605-9989.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Robinson Funeral Home.

Mr. Walker Carroll

Retired sawmill operator

EDGEFIELD, S.C. -- Mr. Walker ``Doc" Carroll, 80, of 42 Rainsford Road, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at Edgefield County Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Republican Baptist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery with the Rev. James Bray officiating.

Mr. Carroll, a native of York County, had retired as a sawmill operator and as a dairyman. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Republican Baptist Church.

Survivors include a sister, Della Harling, Edgefield.

Friends may call at the residence of Florence Morris, 42 Rainsford Road.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.

Mr. Willie Duke

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. -- Mr. Willie Lewis Duke, 66, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at New Hope Baptist Church with Dr. John Avant officiating. Burial will be in Camp Memorial Park.

Mr. Duke was a former resident of Augusta.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Rose Duke; a daughter, Tula D. Polvadore, Ahoskie, N.C.; his mother, Tencie C. Duke, Edenton, N.C.; a brother, Richard Duke, Williamston, N.C.; two sisters, Mary Nooney, Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and Linda Joines, Colerain, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to New Hope Youth Missionary Scholarship.

Mrs. Grace Garrard

Retired teacher

LINCOLNTON, Ga. -- Mrs. Grace R. Garrard, 84, of 111 Kings Way, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at Columbia Augusta Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Lincolnton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Broom officiating. Burial will be in Lincolnton City cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Garrard, a native of Charlotte, N.C., had lived in Lincolnton most of her life. She was a former schoolteacher and a graduate of Queens College, Charlotte. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 194 and she was a former Girl Scout leader. She was a member of Lincolnton United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Candler Circle.

Survivors include her husband, Reuben R. Garrard; a son, Richard ``Ricky" M. Garrard, Lincolnton; a daughter, Barbara G. Lyons, Swainsboro; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Weems R. Pennington Sr., Edward Turner, John Hawkins, Jack Smalley, George Leverett III, Charles Estes, William Ivey and Alex Willingham.

Memorials may be made to Lincolnton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 85, Lincolnton, GA 30817.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Rees Funeral Home.

Mrs. Christine Hankins

Retired nurse

ALLENDALE, S.C. -- Mrs. Christine Taylor Hankins, 76, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at Palmetto Baptist Hospital, Columbia.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Arnon Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mrs. Hankins, a native of Charleston, had retired from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control as a licensed practical nurse. She was a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 65 and an honorary member of the Allendale Rescue Squad. She was a member of Mount Arnon Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Glen Hankins and Walter Hankins, both of Allendale, A.J. ``Pete" Hankins, Columbia, and Don Hankins, Barnwell; a daughter, Pauline H. Brown, Allendale; and 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Smith-Rhoden Funeral Home.

Mr. Virgil Neal

Farmer

GARFIELD, Ga. -- Mr. Virgil Neal, 78, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at Emanuel Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Twin City First Baptist Church, Twin City, with the Revs. Franklin Sasser and Gene Sego officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Primitive Baptist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Twin City.

Mr. Neal, a native of Emanuel County, was a farmer and a member of the Emanuel County Farm Bureau. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served as a staff sergeant and received five battle stars and silver stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the EAMET service medal and the American Defense service medal. He was a member of the American Legion. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church, Twin City, the Calvary Sunday School Class and the Baptist Brotherhood, and sang in the sanctuary choir.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Wiggins Neal; a son, Tommy L. Neal, Garfield; two daughters, Carolyn N. Mills, Garfield, and Marie N. McCorkle, Swainsboro; three brothers, R.L. Neal Sr., Forest Park, Charles Edwin Neal, McRae, and Roy Neal, Duluth; two sisters, Bernice Matkovich, Twin City, and Mary Mills, Pooler; and eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Twin City Baptist Church Baptist Brotherhood.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary, Swainsboro.
