Mrs. Helen Robbins

SYLVANIA, Ga. -- Mrs. Helen Boggs Robbins, 87, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at Effingham Hospital, Springfield.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home with the Rev. Leo Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Middle Ground Baptist Church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mrs. Robbins, a native of Chatham County, had retired as a licensed practical nurse. She was a member of Black Creek United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Joan Robbins Brennan, Beaufort, S.C., and Harriette Robbins Perkins, Screven County; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Brennan, Kenny Wall, Richard Boykin, Frank Boland, Eddie Wall, Oran Porter, Charles D. Lee, Paul Boland, Lee Chandler, David Herman, Weldon Robbins, Harold Lee Scott, Billy Scott and N.L. Scott Jr.

Memorials may be made to Black Creek United Methodist Church, c/o Charles D. Lee, 1006 Maple Branch Road, Sylvania, GA 30467.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Bobby Braddy

American Yard Products retiree

SWAINSBORO, Ga. -- Mr. Bobby R. Braddy, 63, of 24 Underwood Loop, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at Emanuel Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Hal Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Summertown United Methodist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Summertown.

Mr. Braddy, a native of Emanuel County, had retired from American Yard Products. He was a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Riner Braddy; a son, Bobby Grady Braddy, Swainsboro; a daughter, Sarah J. Ely, Swainsboro; two brothers, Ira Braddy, Swainsboro, and Henry Braddy, Milledgeville; four sisters, Ruth Napier and Grace Blackwell, both of Milledgeville, Barbara Hendley, Midville, and Carolyn Braddy, Wrens; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jim Link, Steve Braddy, Wendell Riner, Tommy Wommack, Tommy Sconyers and Trinton Hooks.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gwinelle Hughes

Schoolteacher

MILLEN, Ga. -- Mrs. Gwinelle Gay Hughes, 60, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, in Atlanta.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elam Baptist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Millen. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cumberland United Methodist Church, Smyrna.

Mrs. Hughes was a graduate of Millen High School and Georgia State College for Women, Milledgeville. She taught in Columbus, Ind., and Charlotte, N.C., schools and was site coordinator for the After School Enrichment Program, Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System, from 1990 to 1994.

She served two terms as president of the North Carolina State Parent Teacher Association. She was named vice president to the National Parent Teacher Association in 1986 and served on the National PTA's board of directors from 1982 to 1988.

She was elected to the North Carolina Child Advocacy Institute and was a former president of the Quality Education Committee, Charlotte. She received the North Carolina Volunteer Service to Children Award.

Survivors include her husband, Donald R. Hughes, Atlanta; two daughters, Susan Cooper, Lawrenceville, and Amy Hughes, Athens; her father, Dobson Gay Sr., Garfield; a brother, Dobson Gay Jr., Garfield; a sister, Cynthia Gay Snider, Wichita, Kan.; and one grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Cumberland United Methodist Church, Smyrna.

National Cremation Society, Mableton, is in charge of arrangements.

Crowe-Fields Funeral Home, Millen, is in charge of local arrangements.

Mrs. Floy Maffett

Retired bookkeeper

SALUDA, S.C. -- Mrs. Floy Wise Maffett, 92, of Route 2, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at Saluda Nursing Center.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mrs. Maffett, a native of Saluda County, had retired as a bookkeeper for Saluda Hosiery Mill, and had worked for B.C. Wise, Cinns, and Cromley's Ford. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was treasurer and a member of the Lutheran Church Women.

Survivors include a son, Joe B. Maffett, Saluda; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery Endowment Fund, Route 2, Saluda, SC 29138.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Ramey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Claudette Raburn

Retired accounting technician

Mrs. Claudette G. Raburn, 63, of 2206 Woodbluff Way, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Platt's Funeral Home, Crawford Avenue, with the Rev. David Trimmier officiating. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park.

Mrs. Raburn, a native of Augusta, had retired as an accounting technician at Georgia Regional Hospital.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Pence, North Lauderdale, Fla., and Susan Gayle Raburn, Augusta; three brothers, William C. ``Billy" Goodwin, Evans, Hugh ``Skip" Goodwin, Graniteville, and William C. ``Butch" Goodwin, Martinez; three sisters, Madelyn McLeod, Evans, Mary Hardin, Hephzibah, and Cheri Lee, Atlanta; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mark Goodwin, Gary Goodwin, Jay Evans, Charles McLeod, M.L. Robertson and Joe Holcombe.

Mrs. Moreen Wicker

Homemaker

DAVISBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Moreen Duggan Wicker, 85, of Route 1, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at Heritage Inn, Sandersville.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Nealer African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Carl Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Wicker, a native of Washington County, was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sisters, Bessie Mae Brooks and Precious Brooks, both of Sandersville.

M.C. Smith Funeral Home, Sandersville, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Albert Wren

Retiree

Mr. Albert ``Byron" Wren, 77, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at Columbia Augusta Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Thomas L. King Funeral Home, Martinez, with Dr. Frank Page and the Revs. Bobby Renew and Terry Doss officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Wren, a native of Blythe, had retired from King Mill. He was a member of Senior Friends at Columbia Augusta Medical Center and Warren Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Wren; two sons, Gerald Wren, Grovetown, and Ray Wren, Evans; two stepsons, Gerald Coleman and Larry Coleman, both of Belvedere; a stepdaughter, Jewel Lewis, Langley; and four grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Harvey Lowe, Bobby Jones, Jim Connelly, Larry Coleman, James Holmes and Clifford McDonald.

Dr. Marvin Bonzo

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Dr. Marvin M. Bonzo, 77, of 303 Sycamore Drive, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Summersett Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ronald W. Fink officiating. Burial will be in City Memorial Park.

Dr. Bonzo, a native of Augusta, was a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County, Columbia University, New York, and the Lincoln Chiropractic College, Indianapolis. He served in the Coast Guard Medical Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II and in the 19th Battalion Fleet Marine Reserves, Augusta. He received the lifetime achievement award from the North Carolina Chiropractic State Association. He was a member of Haven Lutheran Church, an officer in American Legion Post No. 244, Indianapolis, a member of the National Chiropractic Association and had been a member of the Order of Demolay.

Survivors include his wife, Erma Murphy Bonzo; one daughter, Cindy Potter, Salisbury; one brother, Wesley Bonzo, Birmingham, Ala.; one sister, Mary Hamilton, Stone Mountain, Ga.; and one grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Haven Lutheran Church, 207 W. Harrison St., Salisbury, NC 28144.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Summersett Funeral Home.

Mr. Charles Booker

Mr. Charles Deon ``Smooth" Booker, 22, of 1020 Ninth Avenue, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Grovetown, with the Rev. Frank Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Piney Grove Baptist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Grovetown.

Mr. Booker, a native of Richmond County, was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where he served on the usher board and the youth choir.

Survivors include one son, Deon Trey Booker; his father, Charles S. Booker; one brother, Carl Booker; four sisters, Scharlyn Booker, Tamiko Scott, Pamela Pugh and Ryan Booker.

Pallbearers will be Eric Blockard, Carlos Byrd, William Ryan, Chris Bowers, Mark Moore and Tim Ware.

Friends may call at the residence or at 2516 Cascade Drive.

Peoples Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lular Bussey

Homemaker

EDGEFIELD, S.C. -- Mrs. Lular Price Bussey, 90, of 717 Walker Road, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Edgefield Health Care Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Ernest Gordon and J.R. Hooper officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mrs. Bussey, a native of Edgefield County, was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was a member of Young Ladies of Honor of Edgefield, Freeman Grove Society, Pleasant Grove Society and China Grove Church Choir.

Survivors include two sons, Perry Bussey Sr. and Thomas Bussey, both of Edgefield.; three daughters, Minnie Jackson and Edith Strothers, both of Flushing, N.Y. and Rebecca Freeman, New York,; one sister, Ruby Mae Price Glover, Aiken; and 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Blalock's Funeral Home.
