Mrs. Janet Valentine

Mrs. Janet Valentine, 73, of 3038 Jeanne Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Lumpkin Road, with the Rev. Ted Miller officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Mrs. Valentine, a native of Hawaii, was a homemaker and a Buddhist.

Survivors include her husband, Calvin O. Valentine; two sons, Woodrow Valentine, Charleston, S.C., and John Valentine, Appling; two daughters, Bobbie Finch, Charleston, and Dawn Gurley, Augusta; her mother, Michie Itai, Hawaii; one brother, Frank Itai, California; six sisters, Marjorie Sakata, Kay Kobayashi, Joan Itai and Margaret Itai, all of Hawaii, Patsy Goto, California, and Kiyoko Omura, Japan; and 10 grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.

Mr. Lacy Wright

Barber

JACKSON -- Mr. Lacy ``Barney" Wright, 61, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at Emory Medical University, Atlanta.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Columbia Road, Martinez, with the Rev. John Moore officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown.

Mr. Wright, a native of Ryan, Okla., was the owner and operator of Washington Road Barber Shop. He was an Army veteran and was a member of First Assembly of God, where he served as an usher. He was a former member of Marantha Christian Center and an associate member of the Alleluia Community.

The family said, ``The great one had gone on to see the Greater one."

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Wright; two sons, Devin Wright and Darren Wright; his father, Lacy G. Wright; one brother, Charles Wright; one sister, Shirley Thomas; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Allen Westover, Wayne DeLong, Dick Newton, Bill VanAlstine, Gale Mino and John Atkinson.

Honorary pallbearers will be the usher board of First Assembly of God.

Memorials may be made to First Assembly of God, 1613 Fenwick St., Augusta, GA 30904.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. James Hunter

Dixie Clay retiree

JACKSON -- Mr. James ``Jim" Hunter, 79, of 346 Foreman Road, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m Saturday at Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Fickling officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mr. Hunter, a native of Aiken County, was retired from Dixie Clay and was a member of Mount Zion Lodge and Susan Union Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the deacon board.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie Lee Hunter; one adopted son, Dan Phinizy, Augusta; and five sisters, Carrie Bell Ellis, Gladys Johnson, Betty Bush and Georgia Lou Odoms, all of Augusta, and Atrulia Youmans, New Ellenton.

Pallbearers will be Calvin Larke, Warren Aaron, Matthew Miller, Fred L. Key, Harry Newman and Wilbert Newman.

Friends may call at the residence or at G.L. Brightharp and Sons Mortuary, North Augusta.

Mrs. Loreane Staley

Homemaker

WAGENER -- Mrs. Loreane Landy Staley, 62, of 130 Landy Drive, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Chalk Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Arthur Smith officiating. Burial will be in Swedenburg-Gunter cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Staley, a native of Norway, was a homemaker and a member of Chalk Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ernest Lee Staley; two sons, Arthur Lee Staley and Louis Staley, both of Wagener; one daughter, Burnett Staley Peterson, Wagener; her mother, Estelle Gissentaner Landy, Wagener; one brother, Elbert Landy, Wagener; five sisters, Alberta Ginyard, Reather Schofield, Jeannett James, Rosa Mae Evan and Peggy Williams, all of Wagener; and 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at J.H. Robinson Funeral Home.

Mr. Joe Allen

Retiree

NORTH AUGUSTA -- Mr. Joe Allen, 76, of 122 Nutgrove Ave., died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital, Augusta.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Pineview Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Fred Keller officiating.

Mr. Allen, a native of Sarepta, La., had lived in North Augusta for 38 years. He had retired from Federal Paper and was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Evans.

His family said he was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be missed greatly by family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Wyoma Allen; a son, Joey Allen, Evans; a daughter, Linda Joiner, Grovetown; two brothers, Billy Allen and Bobby Allen, both of Sarepta; two sisters, Cortez McCroskey, Sarepta, and Shirley Ivey, Cotton Valley, La.; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Rowland Funeral Home.

Mrs. Virginia Blackburn

Homemaker

THOMSON -- Mrs. Virginia Holton Blackburn, 82, of Mount Pleasant Road, died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at McDuffie County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Beggs Funeral Home, Thomson, with the Rev. Robert Grant officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Brownwood cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Sandersville.

Mrs. Blackburn, a native of Jefferson County, was a homemaker and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a Methodist.

Survivors include a son, George Burch, Atlanta; two daughters, Mary Ann Monaghan, Thomson, and Pam Walker, Knoxville, Tenn.; two brothers, Robert Holton, Atlanta, and William G. Holton, Charleston, S.C.; five sisters, Betty Riggs and Laverne Kinard, both of Atlanta, Bernice Gwen, Augusta, Polly Thompkins, Sandersville, and Vera Grant, Jonesboro; and nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jim Usry, Wendell Thompkins Jr., Joe Milford, Billy Holton Jr., Trey Kinard, Johnny McGahee, Bob Holton Jr., Cebron Nunnery and Danny Nunnery.

Memorials may be made to Sandersville United Methodist Church.

Friends may call at the residence of Mary Ann Monaghan, 220 Whiteoak St.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Masae Fournier

Mrs. Masae C. Fournier, 74, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Westover Memorial Park with the Rev. Frederick Green officiating.

Mrs. Fournier, a native of Japan, was a homemaker.

Survivors include a sister, Penny Freudenberg, Norfolk, Va.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Telfair Street.

Mr. William Gunn Sr.

Retiree

DEVEREUX, Ga. -- Mr. William Simmie Gunn Sr., 88, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Devereux Baptist Church with the Revs. Edgar Williams and Billy Hargrove officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Raytown Methodist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Raytown.

Mr. Gunn, a native of Raytown, was a longtime Devereux resident. He had retired from Central State Hospital. He was a member and deacon of Devereux Baptist Church, where he taught the men's Sunday school class.

Survivors include six sons, William Sonny Gunn and Danny Gunn, both of Sandersville, Arthur Gunn, Milledgeville, Robert Gunn, Toccoa, Al Gunn, Gray, and Ralph Gunn, Monticello; four daughters, Fay Brewer, Huntsville, Ala., Betsy Fordham, Milledgeville, Teresa Margan, Sparta, and Nancy McConnell, Atlanta; three sisters, Jennie Kealy and Josie Moore, both of Crawfordville, and Elizabeth Drinkard, Washington; and 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence of Arthur Gunn, 129 Cambridge Drive S., Milledgeville.

Moores Funeral Home, Milledgeville, is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Frances Hartley

SANDERSVILLE, Ga. -- Miss Frances Lugene Hartley, 86, of 626 E. Church St., died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at her residence.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Piney Mount United Methodist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Tennille, with the Revs. Joe Romigh and Michael Petty officiating.

Miss Hartley, a native of Washington County, was a former employee of Bibb Manufacturing Co., Macon, and Royal Manufacturing Co., Sandersville. She was a homemaker and a Methodist.

Survivors include a sister, Susie B. Hartley, Sandersville.

E.K. May Funeral Home, Tennille, is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Trudell Luke

LADY'S ISLAND, S.C. -- Miss Trudell ``Kippy" G. Luke, 86, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital, Beaufort.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Beaufort. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Mausoleum, Beaufort.

Miss Luke, a native of Augusta, had retired from Bendix Corp., Baltimore, as an inspector. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a sister, R. Lucille Williams, Beaufort.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church Building Fund, 890 Ribaut Road, Beaufort, SC 29902.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Anderson Funeral Home, Beaufort.
