Mrs. Ethel Snell

WRIGHTSVILLE, Ga. -- Mrs. Ethel Smith Snell, 86, of Route 2, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital, Augusta.

Mr. James Balma

Accountant

Mr. James Howard Balma, 77, of 3245 Summerchase Circle, died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Seventh-day Adventist Church, Wheeler Road, with the Rev. Dale Tunnell officiating. Burial will be in Westview cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Atlanta.

Mr. Balma, a native of Joliet, Ill., was an accountant. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion and Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He was a Seventh-day Adventist.

His family said he was a cherished and honored member of their family and will be missed greatly.

Survivors include his wife, Nita S. Balma; a brother, Michael Balma, Tequesta, Fla.; and a sister, Ilene Landrey, Clearwater, Fla.

Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Telfair Street, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Elizabeth Brown

Homemaker

Mrs. Elizabeth Brown, of 1901 Bokins Place, died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ross Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. W.J. Crockett officiating. Burial will be in Southview cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Brown, a native of Burke County, Ga., was a homemaker and a member of Phillip Grove Baptist Church, Waynesboro, Ga.

Survivors include two grandsons, Napolean Bryant, Los Angeles, and Michael G. Bryant, East Point, Ga.; seven granddaughters, Rossetta Hannah, Tamika L. Byrant, Barbara J. Brooks and Valerie Holston, all of Augusta, Mary G. Bryant, Carlton, Ga., Mary C. Dawson, Hephzibah, and Deidra Achols, Denver; and several great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence or at Dent's Undertaking Establishment.

Miss Ella Crook

Homemaker

LINCOLNTON, Ga. -- Miss Ella Mae Crook, 88, died Monday, March 2, 1998, at Magnolia Hill, Augusta.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hephzibah Baptist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery with the Rev. Allen Danner officiating.

Miss Crook, a native of Lincoln County, was a homemaker and a member of Hephzibah Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Ruth Johnson, Windsor, and Lucy McCoy, Augusta.

Memorials may be made to Hephzibah Baptist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery Fund, 1750 Hephzibah Church Road, Lincolnton, GA 30817.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Rees Funeral Home.

Mrs. Inez Gordon

ROCKY FORD, Ga. -- Mrs. Inez Beatrice Gordon, 75, of 6648 Rocky Ford Road, died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Horse Creek United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brenda Iglehart-Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Simmons Branch cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Sylvania.

Mrs. Gordon, a native of Screven County, had lived in Rocky Ford for several years. She was a homemaker and a member of Horse Creek United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Rufus Gordon; six sons, Vincent Hill and Clyde Joel, both of Philadelphia, Wayman Gordon, Sylvania, Wildred Tillman, Dover, Pa., Rufus Gordon, East Windsor, N.J. and Moses Ferguson, Shirley, Mass.; three daughters, Regina Fitchett, Philadelphia, Runette Owens, York, Pa., and Gwendolyn Gordon, Atlanta; two sisters, Effie Gordon, Sylvania, and Ruby Roberts, Jamaica, N.Y.; and 25 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.

A wake service will be from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Sylvania Funeral Home, Sylvania.

Mr. Martin Norton

Retiree

EDISTO BEACH, S.C. -- Mr. Martin Gilbert Norton, 74, died Sunday, March 1, 1998, at Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Charleston.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, Edisto Island.

Mr. Norton, a native of Wayne County, N.Y., had retired from Fleur-Daniels. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a Victory Medal recipient. He was a Master Mason and a member of Indiantown Lodge No. 165 Accepted Free Masons, Hemingway.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen S. Norton; two sons, James G. Norton, Huger, and Devon W. Norton, Hemingway; two daughters, Dawn N. Nettles, Edisto Beach, and Valerie N. Craun, Mount Pleasant; four stepsons, Norman L. Nettles and Ronald K. Nettles, both of Barnwell, Stephen M. Nettles, Edisto Beach, and Mendal L. Nettles, Hemingway; two brothers, Harry L. Norton, Ontario, N.Y., and Lyman ``Sam" B. Norton, La Paz, Mexico; two sisters, Catherine N. Emerson, Delray Beach, Fla., and Mary Elizabeth Filmore, Sodus, N.Y.; and 18 grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital, 950 W. Farris St., Greenville, SC 29605-4277.

Mrs. Leslie Thompson

Retired nursing aide

TENNILLE, Ga. -- Mrs. Leslie Irene Hartley Thompson, 77, of 311 Third Ave., died Monday, March 2, 1998, at Washington Regional Medical Center, Sandersville.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kaolin Church of God, Sandersville, with the Revs. Quint Shepherd and Perry Lamey officiating. Burial will be in Zeta cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Thompson, a native of Laurens County, was a longtime resident of Washington County. She had retired from Rawlings Nursing Home and Laurens County Hospital as a nursing aide and was a member of the Kaolin Church of God.

Survivors include a son, Franklin Hartley, Wrightsville; two daughters, Daphne Martin, Sandersville, and Sheila Bohannen, Hazlehurst; two brothers, Lyman Johnson, Macon, and O.W. Garnto, Milledgeville; a sister, Myrtis Logue, Apopka, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Julian Smith, Glenn Garner, Fred Garrett, Larry Garner, Gabriel Hartley, Wendell Smith, Craig Williford and Stacey Williford.

Friends may call at the residence of Quint Shepherd, Georgia Highway 88 East, Sandersville.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Lang's Chapel Funeral Home, Sandersville.

Miss Clara Winters

ROME, Ga. -- Miss Clara Jo Winters, 84, of 2 Three Mile Road, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at Millen City cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Millen, with the Rev. Charles Strickland officiating.

Miss Winters, a native of Jenkins County, was a graduate of Berry College. She had retired from Kraft Foods and was a Women's Army Corps veteran.

Survivors include two nephews, Steve Winters, Goshen, Ohio, and Ken Winters, Cincinnati; and three cousins, Jack Glover, Selma Glover and Robert G. Stephens, all of Millen.

Daniel's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kelsey Barnhart

UNION POINT, Ga. -- Mr. Kelsey William Barnhart, 77, of 207 Hilliard St., died Monday, March 2, 1998, at St. Mary Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Callaway Funeral Home with the Rev. David Key officiating. Burial will be in Penfield cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mr. Barnhart, a native of Greene County, was retired from Bradley Pontiac as a service manager and had worked at Almar Plastic.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Lewis Barnhart; one son, Randy Barnhart, Nashville, Tenn.; one brother, Bobby Barnhart, Greensboro; two sisters, Lida Moore, Florence, S.C., and Julie White, McDonough; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Alvin Harwell, Lanier Rhodes, Harold Finch, Tommy Lewis, James Bales and Hugh Smith.

Mr. Johnas Hall

Retired railroad worker

CAMAK, Ga. -- Mr. Johnas Hall, 74, of 1811 Lazenby St., died Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998, at McDuffie County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Norwood, with the Rev. J.W. Howard officiating. Burial will be in Society cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mr. Hall, a native of Warren, was a retired railroad worker and a member Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, where he was a member of the trustee board, a class leader and a member of the Gospel Aide Society.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Mae Hall; one son, Robert Lee Hall, Camak; two brothers, Wheeler Hall, Norwood, and Joe Hall, Camak; and five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence or Thomson Funeral System.

Mrs. Margaret Hock

Mrs. Margaret Henley Hock, of 2609 Henry St., died Tuesday, March 3, 1998, in Evans.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of The Good Shepherd with the Rev. Robert Fain officiating. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park.

Mrs. Hock, a native of Stateville, N.C., was a homemaker and a member of Church of The Good Shepherd, where she was a member of the altar guild and St. Margaret's Circle. She was a 50-year member of the sewing club, the Augusta Country Club and a past president of Magnolia Garden Club. She was a graduate of North Carolina Baptist School of Nursing, Winston-Salem, N.C., and past president of Richmond County Medical Auxiliary.

Survivors include two sons, Charles William Hock Jr. and David Henley Hock, both of Augusta; one daughter, Susan Hock Smith, Marietta, Ga.; three sisters, Nona Henley Coggin, Holden Beach, N.C., Coot Henley Hall and Mildred Henley Merritt, both of Winston-Salem; and 11 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Charles W. Hock III, John Chillean Hock, Charles Bradley Smith, David Henley Hock, Jonathan Sanford Hock and Robert J. Merritt.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30904.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Platt's Funeral Home, Crawford Avenue.
