Mr. Wyman Alexander

Retired mechanic

SPARTA, Ga. -- Mr. Wyman Alexander, 82, of Route 2, died Wednesday, March 4, 1998, at Hancock Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Hope Powelton Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Carter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mr. Alexander, a native of Taliaferro, had retired as a mechanic. He was a member of New Hope Powelton Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sons, William T. Alexander and Wyman T. Alexander Jr., both of Sparta, Frank Alexander, Queens, N.Y., and Eddie Alexander, Hempstead, N.Y.; a daughter, Effie Alexander, Queens; two brothers, Benjamin Alexander and John Alexander, both of Sparta; a sister, Fannie Mae Foster, Brooklyn, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. today at Ingram Brothers Funeral Home.

Mrs. Margaret Anderson

Homemaker

Mrs. Margaret Thigpen Anderson, 70, of 820 Stevens Creek Road, died Monday, March 9, 1998, at Westlake Manor Nursing Home.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wesley United Methodist Church, Evans, with the Rev. Glenn L. Ethridge officiating. Burial will be in West View cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Anderson, a native of Warrenville, was a homemaker. She was a member and former church organist at Silver Crest Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, John J. ``Andy" Anderson; three daughters, Jeanne Thigpen Christy, Evans, Lynn Thigpen Atkins, Hephzibah, and Shirley Phillips Cooper, Pennsylvania; a brother, Marion ``Bo" Weaver, Hephzibah; and nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Christy, Marion ``Skeeter" Weaver, Charles Ennis, Harris Atkins, James Atkins, Ronald Sullivan, Walt Christy and Larry Wright.

Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Thomas L. King Funeral Home, Martinez.

Mr. Otis Anderson Jr.

Retired railroad conductor

PARKSVILLE, S.C. -- Mr. Otis Anderson Jr., 68, of 115 Price's Mill Road, died Sunday, March 8, 1998, at University Hospital, Augusta.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Parksville Baptist Church with the Rev. Clarence Allen officiating.

Mr. Anderson, a native of Augusta, had lived in Parksville for 41 years. He had retired from CSX Railway as a conductor after 42 years of service, was a former switchman for C&WC Railroad and was a member of the United Transportation Union. He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict and a member of Burns Memorial United Methodist Church, Augusta.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Brown Anderson; two daughters, Debra Anderson and Donna A. Willis, both of Parksville; two sisters, Doris A. Dickens and Mildred A. Sims, both of Augusta; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bill Dickens, Dennis Dickens, Lee Sims, Gus Newman, Ray Newman and Richard Beard.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton, Ga.

Mr. Alan Barfield

Groundskeeper

BEECH ISLAND -- Mr. Alan Barfield, 26, of 591 Beech Island Ave., died Saturday, March 7, 1998.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Second Baptist Church of Beech Island with the Rev. Craig Bailey officiating. Burial will be at First Baptist Church of Beech Island.

Mr. Barfield, a native of San Antonio, was a groundskeeper at the Augusta Country Club. He was a 1990 graduate of Silver Bluff High School, where he played football and baseball, a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi fraternity at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a student at Augusta State University. He played softball with the Gamblers of Beech Island and was a member of Second Baptist Church of Beech Island.

His family said he was born in Texas and had a heart as big as Texas. We will always love and miss him.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Ken Barfield and Judy Barfield, Aiken; his mother and stepfather, Peggy Morris and Leslie Morris, Beech Island; three brothers, Ben Barfield, Augusta, Ricky Stapleton, Killeen, Texas, and Phillip Morris, Aiken; two sisters, Nicole DuBose, Aiken, and Shellie Stapleton, Clearwater; and his grandparents, G.E. McRae and Mable McRae, Beech Island, Grace Wright, Beech Island, Eunice Morris, Aiken, Julia Seigler, Aiken, and Virginia Callier, San Antonio.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Kotler, Chad McRae, Bert Thompson, Steve Newsome, Travis Spires, Mike Spires, Jerry Wright and Shawn Bolt.

Honorary pallbearers will be uncles.

Memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church of Beech Island Building Fund, 655 Beech Island Ave., Beech Island, SC 29842.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Stephen D. Posey Funeral Home, North Augusta.

Mrs. Cora Beggs

Homemaker

LINCOLNTON, Ga. -- Mrs. Cora Colvin Beggs, 65, of 349 Sunrise Drive, died Monday, March 9, 1998, at her residence.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hephzibah Baptist Church with the Rev. Allen Danner officiating.

Mrs. Beggs, a native of Lincoln County, was a homemaker and a member of Hephzibah Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Omar Beggs; a son, Michael T. ``Mike" Beggs, Lincolnton; five sisters, Jean Paradise and Evelyn Florence, both of Lincolnton, June Florence, Charleston, S.C., Margaret Green, Dearing, and Louise Poss, Anchorage, Alaska; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Eric Wengrow, Michael Wengrow, Billy Paradise, Tommy Paradise, Leon Florence, Bruce Beggs and Will Hogan.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30904.

Mrs. Ruby Carpenter

Retired cosmetologist

GRANITEVILLE -- Mrs. Ruby Owens Carpenter, 87, died Sunday, March 8, 1998, at Mattie C. Hall Health Care Center, Aiken.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Graniteville cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery with the Rev. Milford Oswald officiating.

Mrs. Carpenter, a native of Graniteville, had retired as a cosmetologist. She was a member of Graniteville First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Bill Carpenter, Aiken; a daughter, Jessie O. Lybrand, Aiken; a brother, James C. Owens, California; and a sister, Hazel O. Hair, Graniteville.

Pallbearers will be Robert Bell, Jack Bell, George Bell, Jerry Couch, Lucius Eubanks and Frank Beard.

Memorials may be made to Graniteville First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 117, Graniteville, SC 29829.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Napier Funeral Home.

Mrs. Elizabeth Chamberlain

Mrs. Elizabeth S. Chamberlain, 91, of 2444 Broad St., died Monday, March 9, 1998, at University Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at West View cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Cook officiating.

Mrs. Chamberlain, a native of McCormick County, S.C., was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include a son, Clarence R. Chamberlain, Belvedere; and two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Platt's Funeral Home, Crawford Avenue.

Dr. Pericle Chieri

Retired professor

SALUDA, S.C. -- Dr. Pericle Adriano Carlo Chieri, 92, died Monday, March 9, 1998, at Saluda Nursing Center.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Red Bank Baptist Church.

Dr. Chieri, a native of Mokanshan, China, became a naturalized American citizen in 1952. He was a professor of mechanical engineering at the Newark (N.J.) College of Engineering, then head of the mechanical engineering department at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, where he retired after 20 years. He was a water safety instructor for the Red Cross from 1958 to 1967. He was a fellow of the Royal Institute of Naval Architects, London, and an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Etheredge Chieri; and three sisters, all of Italy.

Memorials may be made to Red Bank Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Whitehall.

Ramey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. John Cloud

Retired maintenance worker

Mr. John Harper Cloud, 80, of 31 Innsbrook Drive, died Monday, March 9, 1998, at Kentwood Nursing Home.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Martinez United Methodist Church with the Rev. Howard Bledsoe officiating.

Mr. Cloud, a native of Wilmington, Del., had retired from the Medical College of Georgia as a maintenance worker. He was an Army veteran of World War II and member of the Delaware National Guard and the Delaware Air National Guard. He was a member of Martinez United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Arletta Adams Cloud; a brother, Robert Cloud, Wilmington; three sisters, Betty Beck, Delaware City, Del., Marjorie Thorpe, Wilmington, and Judy Pachearo, Bear, Del.; and three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Martinez United Methodist Church Building Fund, 3614 Washington Road, Martinez, GA 30907.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the residence.

Thomas L. King Funeral Home, Martinez, is in charge of arrangements.
