Mrs. Frances Stewart

AIKEN -- Mrs. Frances Virginia Stewart, 75, of 9 Burlington St., died Thursday, March 19, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Nelson Funeral Home, Fayette, Ala., with the Rev. Johnny James Storey officiating. Burial will be in Bankhead Cemetery, Fayette.

Mrs. Stewart, a native of Fayette, was a homemaker and a member of Church of God True Holiness Church, where she served as the church mother.

Survivors include two sons, Johnny James Storey, Wheatley Heights, N.Y., and Dural Storey, Alabama; one daughter, Lu Frazier, Rockville, N.Y.; and four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Friends may call at the residence or Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home.

Mrs. Evelyn Barfield

Retired teacher

Mrs. Evelyn Ivey Barfield, 91, of 2130 East Side Court, died Tuesday, March 24, 1998, at St. Joseph Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Fleming Baptist Church with the Revs. William T. Hammond and L. Joe Conner officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Barfield, a native of Johnston, S.C., was a retired teacher with Wheeless Road Elementary School. She had taught at Gibson High School, Gibson, Ga. She was a charter member of Fleming Baptist Church, where she taught the homemakers Sunday school class.

Survivors include one son, Walter R. Barfield, Sierra Vista, Ariz.; one daughter, Leta B. Cornman, Augusta; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be David Hopkins, Jim Godowns, Jimmy McCollum, Tim Montgomery, Bob Moore, Jack Waller Sr. and P.G. Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Fleming Baptist Church faithful workers Sunday school class and homemakers Sunday school class.

Memorials may be made to Fleming Baptist Church, Building Fund, 3027 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta, GA 30906.

Poteet Funeral Home, Peach Orchard Road, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Betty Sutton

Homemaker

Mrs. Betty Ruth Hardy Sutton, 73, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be private with the Rev. R.J. Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Sutton, a native of Augusta, was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, where she was a member of Thankful Sunday School Class.

The family said she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends.

Survivors include one son, Al Sutton Jr., Augusta; two daughter, Judy Sutton Evans and Catherine Sutton, both of Augusta; one brother, Samuel B. Hardy Jr., Belvedere; one sister, Myrtis Hardy Edwards, North Augusta; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Cres Hendrix, Joe Edwards, Sammy Turner, John Sutton, Jimmy Turner and Charlie Gibson.

Memorials may be made to the Children's Medical Center, c/o Medical College of Georgia Foundation, MCG Alumni Center, FI 1000, 919 15th St., Augusta, GA 30912; First Baptist Church of Augusta, Youth Ministries, P.O. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Stephen D. Posey Funeral Home, North Augusta.

Mr. Michael Thacker

Truck driver

Mr. Michael Glenn Thacker, 32, of 2331 Milledgeville Road, Lot 28, died Monday, March 2, 1998, in Haltom City, Texas.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. at Lower Lotts Creek Church, Statesboro, Ga.

Mr. Thacker, a native of Richmond County, was a truck driver.

Survivors include his father, Jerry Thacker, Pikeville, Ky.; his mother, Carolyn Bates, Augusta; one brother, Thomas Thacker, Augusta; and one sister, Linda Thacker, Augusta.

Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Home, Metter, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Miguel Vanegas

Retired carpenter

HARLEM -- Mr. Miguel P. Vanegas, 83, of 240 Old Blythe Road, died Tuesday, March 24, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Old Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Allen Yarbrough officiating. Burial will be in Harlem Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Vanegas, a native of Mart, Texas, had retired as a carpenter and was a member of Old Union Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Polly D. Saucedo and Sally Saucedo, both of Fairfax, Va.; two brothers, Rodololfo Vanegas and Robert Vanegas, both of Texas; four sisters, Celia Rosas, Angelita Jacinto, Theresa Sarasua and Elisa Martinez, all of Texas; and seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Moises D. Saucedo, Tony F. Saucedo, Vance Saucedo, Raymond P. O'Connor, Rich Virgil and Daniel Cason.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Starling Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ella Walker

Homemaker

Mrs. Ella Lue Walker, 93, of 3310 Hamden St., died Monday, March 23, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rock Creek Baptist Church, Burke County, with the Rev. Thomas Walker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Walker, a native of Burke County, Ga., was a homemaker and a member of Rock Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Jimmie Abrams, Largo, Fla., Gus Abrams, Waynesboro, Ga., and Watson Abrams, Philadelphia; three daughters, Luella Stowbridge and Lillie Alexander, both of Augusta, and Lizzie Fulcher, Boston; and 22 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence or Williams Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ms. Evelina Zackery

Homemaker

Ms. Evelina Jacobs Zackery, 41, of 347 Taylor St., died Wednesday, March 18, 1998, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Sylvester Bing officiating. Burial will be in Walker Memorial Cemetery.

Ms. Zackery, a native of Elizabeth City, N.C., was a homemaker and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include two sons, Dewayne Jacobs and Derrick Jacobs, both of Augusta; one daughter, Alicia Zackery, Augusta; and one brother, Donnel Jacobs, Augusta.

Friends may call at 825 Spruce St., Apt. 28, or the funeral home.

The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Ronnie Phillips

Retiree

Mr. Ronnie K. Phillips, 55, died Saturday, March 21, 1998.

The funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Becker Funeral Home, Lawton, Okla., with the Rev. Randy Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Mr. Phillips, a native of Ardmore, Okla., had retired as an employee of Richmond County and was a 1963 graduate of Lawton High School, Lawton.

Survivors include his mother, Lola A. Phillips Boon, Lawton; and four sisters, Judy Shotts and Becky Putney, both of Lawton, Gail Pofahl, Oklahoma City, and Nancy King, Bellevue, Neb.

Mr. Lonnie Priester

BARNWELL, S.C. -- Mr. Lonnie Priester, 61, of 835 Forrest Drive, died Saturday, March 21, 1998, at Barnwell County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brown Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Keitt Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Hope Memorial Park.

Mr. Priester, a native of Barnwell, was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Monett Priester; three sons, Lonnie Priester Jr., Darryl Priester and Lamont Wesley; five daughters, Valerie Grayson, Eric Priester, Nikki Johnson, Barbara Jean Scott and Marie Walker; two brothers, James Priester and Charles Priester; five sisters, Mary A. Aiken, Melva O'berry, Adell Anderson, Edith Ridling and Juliette Williams; and seven grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence or Guinyard and Son Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. W. Frank Barton Sr.

Former business owner

Mr. W. Frank Barton Sr., 82, of 4321 Columbia Road, Martinez, died Thursday, March 26, 1998, at Columbia Augusta Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Columbia Road, with the Rev. Richard Cannon officiating. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park.

Mr. Barton, a native of Elbert County, Ga., was the former owner of Barton's Cleaners and Hatters and E-Z-Do Wash N Dry. He was a Baptist.

The family said his first love was his family and his second love was talking and he would talk to anybody. He also loved the outdoors and especially his gardening. He was a wonderful dad, and he will be sadly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Barton; four sons, William F. Barton Jr., North Augusta, Eddy Barton, Snellville, Ga., Bobby Barton, Martinez, and Benny Barton, Hephzibah; one daughter, Bette Gregory, Evans; two brothers, George T. Barton, Augusta, and Jack P. Barton, Aiken; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Michael Barton, Trey Barton, Tommy Stephenson, Gerald Hutto, Earl Gregory and J.P. Barton.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
