Miss Ione Gunn

MACON -- Miss Ione Virginia Gunn, 89, of 152 Stonewall Place, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, at McDuffie County Hospital, Thomson.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Johnson United Methodist Church Cemetery, Warrenton, with the Rev. Mabel Foster officiating.

Miss Gunn, a native of Bibb County, had retired as a bookkeeper with Peeler Hardware Co. and was a member of First Street United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one nephew, William R. ``Billy" Hall, Thomson; and two cousins, Mary Whitener, Atlanta, and Carlene Wren, Gibson.

Pallbearers will be Don Wren, Billy Hall, Bobby Langford, James L. Gunn, Johnie Rahn and Ronnie Moss.

James and Lowe Funeral Home, Warrenton, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Arie Harris

Homemaker

BEECH ISLAND -- Mrs. Arie B. Harris, 89, of 1784 Williston Road, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, at University Hospital, Augusta.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Albert Long officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Harris, a native of Barnwell County, was a homemaker and a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Betty H. Smith, Sarah Jane Jones and Beatrice Dunn, all of Beech Island.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons.

Williams Funeral Home, Augusta, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Joseph Howell

Retiree

Mr. Joseph E. Howell, 73, of 3509 Old Tobacco Road, died Thursday, March 26, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Southgate Baptist Church with the Rev. Joel R. Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Howell, a native of Richmond County, had retired and was a member of Southgate Baptist Church.

The family said he suffered much pain with great strength and took pride in his home and flowers.

Survivors include his wife, Kayziah ``Kay" Howell; two sons, Emory H. Howell, Augusta, and Anthony Howell, Gracewood; two daughters, Brenda Ennis, Evans, and Cynthia Rogers, Augusta; two sisters, Betty Jean Chalker, Augusta, and Elizabeth ``Sis" Brown, Lady Lake, Fla.; and six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Larry Ennis, Joseph Ennis, Michael Howell, Alan Rogers, Billy Chalker, Mike Grant and W.A. ``Bubba" Alberson.

Friends may call at the residence or Poteet Funeral Home, Peach Orchard Road.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ms. Bernice Jones

Homemaker

WAYNESBORO, Ga. -- Ms. Bernice Jones, 31, of 322 Hopkins Drive, died Thursday, March 19, 1998, at Burke County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Jones Grove Baptist Church, Rosier. Burial will be in Sardis Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Millen.

Ms. Jones, a native of Burke County, was a homemaker and had attended school in Burke County.

Survivors include one son, Henry Jones, Waynesboro; one daughter, Annie Mae Crumbly, Waynesboro; her father, Johnnie Moore, Augusta; her mother, Annie Jones, Waynesboro; eight brothers, Eddie Moore, Marietta, Johnnie Moore Jr. and Charles Moore, both of Fort Lauderdale, William Moore and Jesse Jenkins, both of Augusta, Robert Jones and Neely Jones, both of Waynesboro, and Willie James Jones, Georgia; six sisters, Christine Moore, Fort Lauderdale, Annie Mae Moore, Bobbie Ann Moore, LaChandra Moore and Lucy Mae Jenkins, all of Augusta, and Louise Bostic, New York; and one stepbrother, John Jenkins, Augusta.

Friends may call at the residence of Callie Wimberly, Lovers Lane, or Phinazee and Son Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lula King

NORTH AUGUSTA -- Mrs. Lula Mae King, 70, of 10 Jackson Grove Road, died Friday, March 20, 1998, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Old Storm Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Nathaniel Irvin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. King, a native of Aiken County, was a homemaker and a member of Old Storm Branch Baptist Church, where she was a member of the sanctuary choir, the Memorial and Beautification Ministry, the Golden Circle Club, the Happy Hour Club and the Sons and Daughters Society.

Survivors include her husband, Alphonso King Sr., New York; two sons, Alphonso King Jr. and Harvey L. King, both of New York; five daughters, Delores Harris, Janet Merchant and Annie King, all of New York, Mary L. King, North Augusta, and Michelle Bennings, Augusta; her mother, Annie Mae Walton, Clearwater; one brother, Robert L. Walton, North Augusta; two sisters, Verain Dunbar, New York, and Barbara Jean Cobb, Baltimore; and 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence or G.L. Brightharp and Sons Mortuary.

Mr. Edmond Lodge

Samsons Manufacturing Co. retiree

WAYNESBORO, Ga. -- Mr. Edmond Lodge, of 870 1/2 Waters St., died Saturday, March 21, 1998, at Burke County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. A.L. Brown officiating. Burial will be in Pines Cemetery.

Mr. Lodge, a native of Burke County, had retired from Samsons Manufacturing Co. and was a member of Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church, where he served as chief usher, a member of the trustee board and a Sunday school class leader.

Survivors include his wife, Cora L. Lodge; one daughter, Ella B. Roundtree, St. Petersburg, Fla.; two brothers, Herman Lodge, Waynesboro, and Charles Lodge, Englewood, Calif.; two sisters, Beatrice Jones and Willie M. Jones, both of Waynesboro; and five grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be George Payton, James Jones, Talmadge Lodge Jr., John I. Jones, Kenneth Payton and Marvin Kelly.

Friends may call at the residence or at Carter's Mortuary.

Mr. James McLane

Highway department employee

WAGENER -- Mr. James A. McLane, 80, of 338 Railroad Ave. E., died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, at Baptist Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Wagener United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas H. Norrell officiating. Burial will be in Wagener Cemetery.

Mr. McLane, a native of Aiken County, was a South Carolina Highway Transportation employee. He was a member of Wagener United Methodist Church, Cedar Masonic Lodge No. 184, the Wagener Senior Citizens and the Wagener Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 138.

Survivors include his wife, Aletha Whetstone McLane; one daughter, Beverly Giles, Warrenville; one brother, Joel McLane, Wagener; and two grandchildren.

Friends may call at Blizzard Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Robert Nichols

THOMSON -- Mr. Robert Ray Nichols, 54, of 697 Boulevard Drive, Magnolia Park, died Thursday, March 26, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fort Creek Baptist Church, Dearing, with the Rev. Royce Godfrey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Nichols, a native of Parkersburg, W.Va., was a member of 30th Avenue Baptist Church, Florida.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Nichols; one son, Larry Phillips; four daughters, Penny Smith, January Nichols, Tammy Nichols and Brandi Griffith; two stepdaughters, Mary Beth Daniels and Jeanie Hamilton; his mother, Rosie Lenarz; one brother, David Baker, Parkersburg; three sisters, Judy Hobbs, Dearing, Shirley Dusky, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Sandy Grier, Flair Bluff, N.C.; and eight grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Gene Hobbs, Lenny Hobbs, Jimmy Hobbs, Andy Hobbs, Chris Smith, Ray Dusky and Boyd Reeves.

Mr. Leroy Abrams

Mr. Leroy Abrams, 77, died Friday, March 20, 1998 at Brooklyn Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hopewell Baptist Church, Clark Hill, S.C., with the Rev. Sam Milliton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Abrams, a native of Columbia County, was a contractor and building manager in New York. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.

Survivors include two brothers, Thomas Abrams and J.C. Abrams, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and three sisters, Ossie Ola Hartfield, Evans, Bunice Rouse, Los Angeles, and Laura Lee Abrams, Augusta.

Pallbearers will be Moses Hartfield, Robert Hartfield, Sylvester Abrams, Jessie Hartfield, Paul Hartfield and Howard Seymour.

Friends may call at the residence; or at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Betty Askren

LINCOLNTON, Ga. -- Mrs. Betty Lou Askren, 71, of 1677 Price-Reed Road, died Friday, March 27, 1998 at her residence.

Mrs. Askren, a native of Westville, Ill., was a homemaker and a member of the Gail Grotto Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Danville.

Survivors include her husband, Willard H. Askren; six sons, L. Ray Askren, North Augusta, Michael Askren, Lincolnton, Willard Askren Jr., Alaska, Clyde Askren, Indiana, Tim Askren, Graniteville, and Thomas Askren, California; one daughter, Etoral Rovene Askren, Milner; one brother, Paul Clemmons, Nebraska; one sister, Iona Haney, Alabama; and 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence.
