Mrs. Maggie Brant

BRANDON, Fla. -- Mrs. Maggie McMillan Brant, 99, died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at Brandon Wilde Nursing Home.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hillsborough Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Hillsborough Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Brant, a native of Screven County, was a homemaker and a Methodist.

Survivors include two sons, Paul Brant, Brandon, and Jimmy Brant, Rincon, Ga.; and four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Hillsborough Memorial Chapel.

Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home, Sylvania, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dimon Driggers

Retired cotton seed products dealer

Mr. Dimon Driggers, 89, died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Platt's Funeral Home, Crawford Avenue, with the Rev. Peter Letchford officiating. Burial will be private in Riverside cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Albany.

Mr. Diggers, a native of Dothan, Ala., was a cotton seed products dealer and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Augusta, where he was elder emeritus.

Survivors include his wife, Loulie Driggers; one son, Lee I. Driggers, Fayetteville, N.C.; one daughter, Nancy D. Granade, Evans; one sister, Annie Laurie Ledford, Jackson, Wyo.; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Trinity Bible Class.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.

The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the residence.

Mr. Robert Gay

Retired engineer

Mr. Robert Marshall Gay, 83, of 2412 Cherokee Road, died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at Columbia Augusta Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Platt's Funeral Home, Crawford Avenue, with Sammy Wilson and Joel Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park.

Mr. Gay, a native of Harlem, was a retired engineer with Lily Tulip and a member of Victory Baptist Church. He was vice president of Gay Fire Extinguisher Co.

The family said he never met a stranger, and everyone was considered a friend.

Survivors include his wife, Mattie Pinkston Gay; two sons, Eddie Gay, Augusta, and Robert M. Gay Jr., North Augusta; and five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Clifford ``Bubba" Ellis, Ed Langston, Ed Hickman, Joel Norris, T.J. Kelly and James Champion.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ollie Johnston

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. -- Mrs. Ollie James Johnston, 86, died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at Hospice of Golden Isles, Brunswick.

Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with the Rev. Don Johnson officiating.

Mrs. Johnston, a native of Augusta, was a member of Christian Renewal Center.

Survivors include one son, Harry Eugene Johnston, Hiram.

Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of the Christian Renewal Center or the Hospice of the Golden Isles.

Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, Brunswick, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Phyllis King

Homemaker

Mrs. Phyllis Jane Fischer King, 80, of 165 Stone Mill Drive, Martinez, died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at University Hospital, Augusta.

Funeral services will be private.

Mrs. King, a native of Farrell, Pa., was a homemaker.

The family said she was a devoted wife and mother.

Survivors include one son, Donald King, Ann Arbor, Mich.; four daughters, Martha Judy, Hamilton Mill, Ga., Kathy Pierson, Lake Forest, Ill., Cheryl Young, Emlenton, Pa., and Peggy Williams, Augusta; one brother, Coe Fischer, Alameda, Calif.; one sister, Elma Oesterling, Clearwater, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 246 Davis Road, Augusta, GA 30907.

Thomas L. King Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. David Kirby

Retired carpenter

SWAINSBORO, Ga. -- Mr. David R. Kirby, 69, died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at Emanuel Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Swainsboro Nazarene Church with Rev. Walter Mann and Tommy Rountree, elder, officiating. Burial will be in Eastbrook cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mr. Kirby, a native of Emanuel County, was a retired carpenter and construction worker and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Bellville Nazarene Church.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Holbrook Kirby; four sons, Ronald Kirby, Kite, Wayne Kirby and Bruce Kirby, both of Nunez, and Danny Kirby, Swainsboro; two stepsons, Steve Powell, Norristown, and Larry Bailey, Swainsboro; one daughter, Diane Silcox, Macclenny, Fla.; three brothers, Joe Kirby, Swainsboro, Willie Kirby, Nunez, and Jerry Kirby, Pooler; five sisters, Margaret Smith, Bobbie Jean Riner and Jeanette Webb, all of Swainsboro, Christine Daniels, Nunez, and Lillian Kline, Hilton Head, S.C.; and 22 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be his nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary.

Mr. W.S. Rogers Sr.

Retired mechanic

Mr. W.S. Rogers Sr., 80, of 2384 Wheeless Road, died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Lumpkin Road, with the Revs. James Bland Jr. and Lloyd Greene officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Rogers, a native of Reidsville, was a retired mechanic with the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a charter member of Bayvale Baptist Church, where he was a member of George Boyd Sunday School Class and Happy Timers and was deacon emeritus.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Marie Rogers; four sons, W.S. ``Sonny" Rogers Jr., Macon, Dennis E. Rogers, Augusta, Lynn L. Rogers, Dublin, and Rick Rogers, Martinez; three brothers, R.L. Rogers and E.H. Rogers, both of Midway, and H.J. Rogers, Savannah; one sister, Annie Lee Tatum, Savannah; and seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Danny Davis, Greg Rogers, Andy Rogers, Frank Cook, Joey Rogers and Alan Rogers.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Vallie Taylor

SANDERSVILLE, Ga. -- Mrs. Vallie Will Taylor, 70, of 302 Evans St., died Saturday, March 28, 1998, at Washington County Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Green Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Owens officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mrs. Taylor was a native of Washington County.

Survivors include one son, Jason Taylor, Milledgeville; three daughters, Brenda T. Washington and Kim Hamilton, both of Sandersville, and Alice M. Felton, Allentown, Pa.; two brothers, Hardwick Jordan, Sandersville, and Ernest Jordan, Cleveland; and three sisters, Tressie Dudley and Lula Bell Hall, both of Sandersville, and Evernell Coleman, Cleveland.

M.C. Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lucy Williams

Retired teacher

Mrs. Lucy Oliver Williams, 75, of 521 Hillwood Circle, died Sunday, March 29, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Beulah Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Andy Thornton and Sam Davis officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Baptist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Girard, Ga.

Mrs. Williams, a native of Burke County, was a retired teacher with Richmond County and a member of Second Mount Moriah Baptist Church, where she had been president of the missionary society. She had been president of the 10th District Women's Auxiliary of General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia Inc. and a national officer of Tau Gamma Delta Sorority Inc. She was a member of Fort Valley State University National Alumni Association, the National Education Association and the Georgia Association of Educators.

Survivors include two brothers, Enoch Oliver, New Haven, Conn., and Willie Lee Oliver, Augusta.

Pallbearers will be deacons of Second Mount Moriah Baptist Church.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the 10th District Missionary Association, Richmond County retired teachers and members of Tau Gamma Delta Sorority.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends at W.H. Mays Mortuary.

Mr. Sylvester Windless

AIKEN -- Mr. Sylvester Windless, 42, of 830 Lincoln St., died Monday, March 30, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Young Second Baptist Church, Ridge Spring, with the Rev. Reginald Burden officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mr. Windless was a native of Edgefield County.

Survivors include his mother, Willie L. Williams, Aiken; one brother, Elester Windless, Cayce; four sisters, Dorothy Windless, Aiken, Mary Jane Rauch, Saluda, Alice Morris, Monetta, and Juanita Windless, Johnston; and one stepsister, Sarah Quattlebaum, Ridge Spring.

The family will receive friends at 9 a.m. today at Davis Funeral Home, Ridge Spring.
