Mrs. Vando Johnson

WARRENTON, Ga. -- Mrs. Vando Norris Johnson, 93, of 204 Shoals St., died Tuesday, April 21, 1998, at Providence Health Care.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Stamp Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Martin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson, a native of Warren County, was a member of Stamp Branch Baptist Church, where she served on the missionary board.

Survivors include two sons, Evans Johnson, Warrenton, and Tracy Johnson, Stamford, Conn.; and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be members of her family.

Friends may call at the residence or Dawson's Mortuary.

Mrs. Sarah Little

SWAINSBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Sarah Huff Little, 76, died Sunday, April 19, 1998, at University Hospital, Augusta.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Mount Moriah African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. James Day officiating. Burial will be in Swainsboro City cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Little, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of Mount Moriah African Methodist Episcopal Church, St. Phillip Lodge No. 114 of Order of the Eastern Star and the Jethro Council.

Survivors include three daughters, Annette Hollins, Augusta, Jacquline Worthen, Swainsboro, and Debbie Powell, Hinesville; one brother, Charmas Huff, Cleveland; and nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Sherrod, Horace Hall, Jimmy Worthen, Archie Dukes, Jessie Doyle and Cleveland Doyle.

Honorary pallbearers will be stewards of Mount Moriah African Methodist Episcopal Church and members of Masonic Brotherhood Lodge No. 96.

Mosley's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. William Rimes Sr.

Army retiree

KLINE, S.C. -- Mr. William Gary Rimes Sr., 61, died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mole Funeral Home. Burial will be in Barnwell County Memory Gardens cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mr. Rimes, a native of Savannah, had retired from the Army as a sergeant first class and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal and the Vietnam Cross with Palm Good Conduct Medal. He was retired from Sizemore Security at Clariant Plant, Martin. He was a member of Harmony Lodge No. 17 Masons and Jamie Shrine Temple.

Survivors include his wife, Erlean Sanders Rimes; two sons, William Gary Rimes Jr., Kline, and Darrell Glenn Rimes, Barnwell; one daughter, Donna Kay Hill, Adamsville, Ala.; two brothers, Robert R. Rimes, Kline, and Jake O. Rimes Jr., Barnwell; one sister, Patricia R. Stalker, Savannah; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Henrietta Stringer

Retired custodian

Mrs. Henrietta Stringer, of 1422 McCauley St., died Thursday, April 23, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Burgess Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Walker Memorial Park.

Mrs. Stringer, a native of Richmond County, had retired as a custodian at Augusta Technical College. She was a member of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church.

The family said she was a joyful person to her family and friends.

Survivors include two daughters, Margie S. Childs and Mary Lou Stringer, both of Augusta; one sister, Carrie Warren, Augusta; and three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence or Williams Funeral Home.

Mrs. Grace Walker

LOUISVILLE, Ga. -- Mrs. Grace Walker, of 1864 Old Louisville Road, died Saturday, April 18, 1998, at Burke County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Green Grove African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Samuel Grant officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mrs. Walker, a native of Burke County, was a homemaker and a member of Green Grove African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she was a deaconess and served on the trustee board and in the missionary department.

Survivors include three sons, Percial Walker Jr., Gough, Elbert Walker, Dania, Fla., and Grady Walker, Graniteville; five daughters, Mary E. Walker and Beulah D. Walker, both of Waynesboro, and Catherine Walker, Glenda A. Walker and Dorethia D. Walker, all of Gough; two brothers, James Jordan, Miami, and Andrew Jordan, Gough; and two sisters, Pauline Darion, Dania, and Emma Ruth Cooper, Vidette.

Friends may call at the residence of Mary Walker, 185 New Burke Drive, Keysville; or Carter's Mortuary, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Ernest Aiken

Retired cement finisher

Mr. Ernest Aiken, 87, of 7712 Pinnacle Drive, died Monday, April 20, 1998, at Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. R.K. Harkness officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mr. Aiken, a native of Aiken County, was a retired cement finisher and an Army veteran of World War II, where he was a private first class. He was a member of True Born Church of Christ and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 469.

Survivors include one brother, William Aiken, Hephzibah; and one sister, Georgia Strother Carter, Chicago.

Friends may call at 131 Harrisburg St., Abbeville, S.C.

Mrs. Ella Hall

AIKEN -- Mrs. Ella ``Sue" Franklin Hall, 87, of 426 Shiloh Heights Road, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Monetta Baptist Church, Monetta, with the Revs. Brooks Williamson and John Gibson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mrs. Hall, a native of Saluda County, was a member of Monetta Baptist Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Annie Bell Cue, Aiken, Eloise Franklin, Hollis, N.Y., Nettie Issac, North Augusta, and Brenda Mabel Fritz, New York; one stepson, Onzelle Chandler, De Soto, Texas;two stepbrothers, Willie Scott, Columbia, and John Scott, Florida; and one sister, Pearl Franklin Kelly, Jamaica, N.Y.

The family will receive friends at 9 a.m. today at Davis Funeral Home, Ridge Spring.

Mr. John Jackson

Retired florist

Mr. John David Jackson, 84, of 408 Old Evans Road, Martinez, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at his residence.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Westover Memorial Park with the Revs. Frank Page and Robert Daniel officiating.

Mr. Jackson, a native of Augusta, was retired as the owner of Jackson's Florist and was a member of Warren Baptist Church, where he was a member of volunteer Sunday school class. He was a member of Social Lodge No. 1, Free and Accepted Masons and the first president and founding member of the Augusta Floral Association. He was a life member of the Georgia Floral Association.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Baber Jackson; one son, David Jackson, Bartlett, Tenn.; one daughter, Bonnie Jackson, Martinez; one sister, Pearl Rivers, Columbia; and one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be David Poss, Daniel Poss, Jim Lamb, Art Baber, Ronnie Howard and Franklin Allen.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30901.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Platt's Funeral Home, North Belair Road.

Mrs. Leola Hill

Retired nurses aide

WADLEY, Ga. -- Mrs. Leola Powell Hill, 75, of 330 St. Mark St., died Friday, April 24, 1998, at St. Joseph Hospital, Augusta.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at San Clair Baptist Church with the Rev. A.C. Epps III officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mrs. Hill, a native of Davisboro, was a retired nurses aide with Old Capital Inn Home, Louisville, and was a member of San Clair Baptist Church. She had been and employee of St. Eve Inc.

Survivors include seven sons, Joe Taylor Jr., Clark Williams and Charles Hill, all of Wadley, Johnny Hinkins and James Seays, both of Detroit, Garette Farris Bowlinger, Martinez, and Jack Grier, Newark, N.J.; four daughters, Ella M. Taylor, Detroit, Rogerbelle Eason, Swainsboro, Linda Thabiti, Hephzibah, and Sherry Tillery, Augusta; one brother, Henry Powell, St. Augustine, Fla.; one sister, Elizabeth ``Liza" Walker, Louisville; and 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her sons and grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of San Clair Baptist Church.

Friends may call at the residence or Hudson Mortuary.

Mr. Ernest Lee Sr.

AIKEN -- Mr. Ernest C. Lee Sr., 50, of 220 Adams Road, died Saturday, April 25, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 3;30 p.m. Thursday at Zion Branch Baptist Church with the Revs. Melvin Robinson and J.E. Dukes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mr. Lee, a native of Dunn, N.C., was an employee of the Aiken County Department of Public Works and a member of the Screaming Eagles Citizens Band Club of Williston.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise Woods Lee; one son, Ernest C. Lee Jr., Aiken; three daughters, Mary Yvonne Lee and Barbara Jean Lee, both of Dunn, and LaToya Denise Lee, Aiken; one brother, Freddie Blue Jr., Dunn; four sisters, Della Blue, Vivian McClain, Sylvian Raines and Joanne Williams, all of Dunn; and three grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence or at 1 p.m. today at Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home, or at noon Thursday at Zion Branch Baptist Church.
