BATH -- Mr. Governor Scott Sr., 86, of 228 Scottsville Road, died Friday, April 24, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Old Storm Branch Baptist Church, North Augusta, with the Rev. Robert Williams officiating.

Mr. Scott, a native of Barnwell County, had retired from Dixie Clay Co. He was a member of Old Storm Branch Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Governor Scott Jr., Hempstead, N.Y., Isaac E. Scott, Atlanta, and Tillman A. Scott, Great Neck, N.Y.; six daughters, Annie Louise Williams, Martha Searls and Frances J. Love, all of Bath, Sarah A. Brown, Great Neck, Mildred McKie, Graniteville, and Mary Riley, North Augusta; his stepmother, Mary Scott, Chicago; three sisters, Elizabeth Colbert, Julia Muzzall and Lillian McIntyre, all of Chicago; and 34 grandchildren, 85 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence or after 1 p.m. today at G.L. Brightharp and Sons Mortuary, North Augusta.

Mrs. Mildred Topshe

COLUMBIA -- Mrs. Mildred Barfield Topshe, 85, died Saturday, April 25, 1998.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Topshe, a native of Kershaw County, was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, where she was a member of Sodality.

Survivors include two sons, Fred Joseph Topshe Jr., Augusta, and Robert Michael Topshe, Columbia; two daughters, Beverly Storms, Crofton, Md., and Angela King, Lexington; a brother, Harold Barfield, Florence; a sister, Mrs. C.R. Barnes, Wilson, N.C.; and nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Talbert-Shives Funeral Home with a rosary service to follow at 7 p.m.

Ms. Rose Appel

Homemaker

Ms. Rose Marie Appel, 78, of 3545 Bellerive Circle, Martinez, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at Westlake Nursing Home.

The funeral will be at 8 p.m. today at Thomas L. King Funeral Home with Joseph Teston officiating. Burial will be in Fairhaven Memorial Park, Santa Ana, Calif.

Ms. Appel, a native of Abrams, Wis., was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church.

Survivors include one sister, Sue Stroka, Oconto Falls, Wis.; and one grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Patricia Davis

Homemaker

CLARKS HILL, S.C. -- Mrs. Patricia W. Davis, 51, of Route 1, died Saturday, April 25, 1998.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Flowing Wells Congregational Holiness Church, Augusta, with the Revs. Bobby Renew and Mike Wylds officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Augusta.

Mrs. Davis, a native of Augusta, was a homemaker and a member of Flowing Wells Congregational Holiness Church.

The family said she will be remembered for her love of flowers and her garden, and she had the ability to make anything grow beautifully. Her passion in life was to witness to anyone willing to listen to the Lord, and she was genuinely concerned about everyone.

Survivors include her husband, Henry ``Buddy" Davis; two sons, David D. Hutto, Martinez, and Mitchel T. Hutto Jr., Graniteville; one daughter, Paula D. Masters, Augusta; three brothers, Marvin Williams, Aiken, Benny Williams, Beaufort, and Robert Williams, Albany, Ga.; one sister, Marlene Grubbs, Augusta; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Don Campbell, Gerald O'Neal, Steve Leedom, Steve Snead, Steve Covington and Wesley Hartley.

Friends may call at the residence or Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Columbia Road.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Rose Harkins

HILTONIA, Ga. -- Rose Cadye Harkins, of 153 First Ave., died Monday, April 27, 1998, at Columbia Augusta Medical Center.

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Screven County Memorial cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Sylvania, with the Rev. Joe Hubbard officiating.

Rose was a native of Richmond County.

Survivors include her parents, Jennifer Leigh Farr and Shayne Edward Harkins, Hiltonia; one brother, Chance Alexander Harkins, Hiltonia; her paternal grandparents, Rita Cullimore and Harry McMillan, Hiltonia, and Daniel and Cathy Cullimore, Statesboro; her maternal grandparents, Carol Ann and David Farr, Centerville, Ohio; her maternal stepgrandmother, Orpha Farr, Syracuse, N.Y.; and her maternal great-grandmother, Dorothy McCormick, Kremlin, Mont.

Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home, Sylvania, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ricky Hensley

High-voltage electrician

SALUDA, S.C. -- Mr. Rick Dale Hensley, 33, of Route 4, died Sunday, April 26, 1998.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Richland Springs Baptist Church, Ward. Burial will be in Bush River Memorial Gardens, Irmo.

Mr. Hensley, a native of Asheville, N.C., was a high-voltage electrician with Strom Engineering and a Baptist. He served in the Army and was a 1986 Citadel graduate.

Survivors include his parents, Paul C. and Dorothy Henderson Hensley, Saluda; two brothers, Roger Dennis Hensley, Saluda, and Paul C. Hensley II, Columbia; and three sisters, Paula Mallory and Sherree Barton, both of Columbia, and Ann Helms, Augusta.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Charles R. Shealy and Son Funeral Home, Batesburg-Leesville.

Mrs. Ester Herndon

AIKEN -- Mrs. Ester ``Betsy" Herndon, 68, of 1602 Huckleberry Drive, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Millbrook Baptist Church with the Revs. Eddie Leopard and Fred Andrea officiating. Burial will be in Grover cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Grover, N.C.

Mrs. Herndon, a native of Great Falls, was a homemaker and a member of Millbrook Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Alvin D. Herndon; two sons, Steven Craig Herndon, Parkersburg, W.Va., and Robert Bradford Herndon, Laurel, Md.; one brother, Ben Silver, Auburndale , Fla.; two sisters, Agnes Stieger, Portland, Ore., and Alma Williams, New Brunswick, Texas; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bob Lawson, Brian Whitson, Joe Lubner, Jess Moyer, Ed Moran and Olin Osbon.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at George Funeral Home, Park Avenue.

Mrs. Beulah James

WRENS, Ga. -- Mrs. Beulah Guy James, 83, of 2301 Jamestown Road, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at McDuffie County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at James and Lowe Funeral Home with the Revs. Ben Martin and Paul Moore officiating. Burial will be in Mount Horeb Baptist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. James, a native of Jefferson, was a homemaker and a member of Mount Horeb Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Curtis James, Matthews, J.C. James, Martinez, and Ricky James, Wrens; one daughter, Betty Sheppard, Wrens; one brother, Clinton Guy, Wheelersburg, Ohio; one sister, Nellie Purvis, Augusta; and eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Todd James, Johnny James, Jason Sheppard, Jim Sheppard, Raymond James and Edward James.

Friends may call at the residence of James Sheppard, 202 Peachtree St., Wrens.

Mrs. Minnie Kitt

Salley Manufacturing Co. employee

SALLEY -- Mrs. Minnie Sweat Kitt, 54, of 128 Hanson Curtis Road, died Friday, April 24, 1998, at Orangeburg Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Branch United Methodist Church, Norway, with the Rev. Ethel G. Jefferson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mrs. Kitt, a native of Orangeburg, was employed by Salley Manufacturing Co. and was a member of Stephen United Methodist Church, Springfield, where she served as lay speaker. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Deborah Chapter No. 114, Springfield. She was a volunteer with the Springfield Neighborhood Center and had attended Orangeburg County public schools.

Survivors include two sons, Melvin Sweat, Orangeburg, and Reginald Sweat, Wagener; three daughters, Tandra Staley and Charmain James, both of Orangeburg, and Deborah Garvin, Salley; her mother, Edith Goodwin Mack, Orangeburg; three brothers, Bozell Mack Jr. and Timothy Mack, both of Orangeburg, and Lawtonella Mack, New York; four sisters, Loretta Mack, Springfield, Linda Graham and Elizabeth Bell, both of Orangeburg, and Frances Marion, New York; and 18 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her nephews.

Friends may call at 576 Bayne St., Springfield, or at Fulmer's Funeral Home, Springfield.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. James Mealing

Construction worker

NORTH AUGUSTA -- Mr. James Allen ``Puggie" Mealing, 41, of 207 Fox Terrace Drive, died Friday, April 24, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Rosa Hall Baptist Church, Edgefield, with the Rev. Jasper Lloyd officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Baptist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Edgefield.

Mr. Mealing, a native of Edgefield County, was a construction worker.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Smith Mealing; one son, James Allen Mealing Jr.; one daughter, Lakesha Mealing; one stepson, Michael Smith, North Augusta; four brothers, Russell Mealing, Johnston, Bobby Mealing, Aiken, Fitzgerald Mealing, Staten Island, N.Y., and Marcellous Mealing, Trenton; and nine sisters, Mariah Allan, Corinthian Hillary, Jeanette Brown and Cannette Andrews, all of Edgefield, Patricia Butler and Judy Mealing, both of Jamaica, N.Y., Elaine Pope, Camden, Sylvia Mealing, Aiken, and Barbara Ann Lanier, Monetta.

Amos and Sons Funeral Home, Johnston, is in charge of arrangements.
