TIGNALL, Ga. -- Mrs. Rachel Bailey Evans, 79, of 1270 Gill Point Road, died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Beulah Baptist Church with the Revs. Jim Edwards and Skip Padgett officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mrs. Evans, a native of Wilkes County, was a retired registered nurse and a member of Beulah Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Toby Evans, Commerce; three daughters, Cindy Bohler and Susan Campbell, both of Tignall, and Robin Burdette, Elberton; one sister, Frankie Bailey Rousey, Social Circle; and eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Carl Adams, Jerry Butler, Arnold Adams, Billy Butler, Adam Bohler and Keith Rousey.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hopkins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Virginia Givens

Mrs. Virginia Givens, of 1665 Floyd St., died Saturday, April 25, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Williams Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Fryer officiating. Burial will be in Southview cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Givens, a native of Richmond County, was a cook.

Survivors include four sons, Joseph Givens, Henry Givens and Thomas Givens, all of Augusta, and Michael Givens, Langley; two daughters, Nancy Givens O'Brannon and Monica Givens, both of Augusta; one brother, James Givens Jr., Augusta; one sister, Elnora G. Brown, Augusta; and six grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence.

Williams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Emory Palmer Sr.

King Mill retiree

BELVEDERE -- Mr. Emory T. Palmer Sr., 88, of 103 Belair Road, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in West View cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Augusta, with the Rev. Charles Whisnant officiating.

Mr. Palmer, a native of Augusta, was retired from King Mill and was a 32nd Degree Mason, Richmond Lodge 412, Hephzibah. He was a member of the Shriners Alee Temple.

Survivors include one sister, Essie Smith, Augusta; and four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Napier Funeral Home, Graniteville.

Mrs. Patricia Rosier

BARNWELL, S.C. -- Mrs. Patricia Faye Bridgmon Rosier, 51, of Freedom Road, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hagood Avenue Baptist Church with the Revs. Ken Catoe and Floyd Dukes officiating. Burial will be in Barnwell Memorial Park cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Rosier, a native of Birmingham, Ala., was a homemaker and a member of Hagood Avenue Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir, Ruth Sunday School Class and the softball team.

Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Sanders and Barbara Croft, both of Barnwell; two brothers, Gean Bridgmon, Williston, and Paul R. Bridgmon, Fayetteville, N.C.; three sisters, Geanette Stoudemire, Barnwell, Johnnie Bodiford, Williston, and Jackie Hawkes, Charlotte, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Hagood Avenue Softball and Drama Fund, or Elko Baptist Church Building Fund.

Friends may call at Folk Funeral Home, Williston.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Charles Silbert

Mr. Charles Silbert, 88, of 2237 Lee St., died Monday, April 27, 1998, at his residence.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Magnolia cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery with the Rabbis Alex Greenbaum and Jordon M. Parr officiating.

Mr. Silbert, a native of Ontario, Canada, was owner of an auto parts business and was a member of Adas Yeshurun Synagogue, where he served on the board of governors, Walton Way Temple Congregation Children of Israel, Jewish Federation, Jewish Community Center and Civitan International, where he had served as state governor.

Survivors include one son, Mendel Silbert, Richmond, Va.; one daughter, Nancy Cohen, Baltimore; two brothers, Daniel ``Nick" Silbert, Newburgh, N.Y., and Morris Silbert, Toronto; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mike Pousman, Ed Kahal, Ike Henderson, Melvin Elstein, Ron Altman, Michael Cohen, Eric Fleishner, Abe Rice and Max Bogo.

Memorials may be made to Charles and Rae Silbert Educational Fund, c/o the Jewish Community Center.

Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Telfair Street, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Donald Stephens

J.P. Stevens Co. retiree

ADRIAN, Ga. -- Mr. Donald Stephens, 75, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at Washington County Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Poplar Springs Methodist Church with the Revs. Ramus Freeman, Cecil Ruffin and Tony Carlwell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mr. Stephens, a native of Johnson County, was retired from J.P. Stevens Co. and was a veteran of World War II. He was a retired farmer and a member of Poplar Springs Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Lindsey Stephens; one son, Sidney M. Stephens, Maxeys; four daughters, Janice S. Scott, Jonesboro, Kathy S. Palmer, Swainsboro, Sue S. Moody, Asheville, N.C., and Bonnie S. Peterson, Alpharetta; three brothers, Wesley Stephens, Wrightsville, Jack Stephens, Oriana, and Eugene Stephens, Augusta; and one sister, Wynelle Stephens Flanders, North Augusta; and nine grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren and three great-stepgrandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Brantley, Gene Green, Carl Green, John Webb, Jimmy Horton and Gene Odom.

Richard and Joyce Stanley Funeral Home, Wrightsville, is in charge of arrangements.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Mr. Lawton B. Cummings, of 1706 N.W. Seventh Court, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at North Broward Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Martinez, with the Rev. Jackson Parks officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mr. Cummings, a native of Columbia County, was retired from the city of Fort Lauderdale Department of Recreation and Parks.

The family said he was a joy to be around and never complained about his health problems.

Survivors include one son, Harold Cummings, Augusta; his mother, Mozelle Cummings, Grovetown; six brothers, John E. Cummings, Fort Lauderdale, Jessie Cummings, George Cummings, Leroy Cummings and Vernon Cummings, all of Augusta, and Charles Cummings, Grovetown; four sisters, June Giles, Janie Dozier and Linda Bennett, all of Augusta, and Inez Becton, Fort Walton Beach; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be James Marshall, William Marshall, Forrest Tolbert, Danny Norman Sr., Jule Maryland and George Cummings Sr.

Mrs. Stella Mae Earle, of Magnolia Hills, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at her residence.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Matthew No. 2 Methodist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Blair, S.C., with the Rev. David Reynolds officiating.

Mrs. Earle, a native of Fairfield, S.C., was a retired store owner.

Survivors include three sons, Alex Celester Thompson, Charlie Thompson and Lawrence Thompson, all of Spartanburg, S.C.; four daughters, Wilhemenia Tate, New York, Peggy Artison and Fredericka Earle, both of Spartanburg, and Patricia Gladney, Hephzibah; two sisters, Beulah Means, Spartanburg, and Catherine Mills, Jenkinsville, S.C.; and 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence of Patricia Gladney, 3740 Rio Ridge Drive, Hephzibah, or at Dent's Funeral Home.

The Rev. Gary Wayne Humphrey, 29, of 4222 Wheeler Road, Martinez, died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jesse Carroll Memorial Funeral Home, Hephzibah, with the Rev. Bruce Ellison officiating. Burial will be in Hephzibah City cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

The Rev. Humphrey, a native of Columbus, Ohio, was a secretary with the Cobb-Douglas County Board of Health, Marietta, and was a member of New Life Christian Center.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Crego Humphrey; five daughters, Ruth Ann Gates and Lindsey Hall, both of Columbus, Tracie Shelhart and Stephanie Shelhart, both of Canal Winchester, Ohio, and Shae Meree Humphrey, Martinez; his parents, William and Sue Humphrey, Augusta; and four sisters, Nancy Piatt and Teresa Mullins, both of Columbus, Ginger Woods, Martinez, and Frances Smith, Ramond, Calif.

Pallbearers will be Chris Woods, Aaron Woods, Steve Woods, Shane Mullins and Jeff Manning.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
