STANFIELD, N.C. -- Mr. Philip Harrison Higgs, 62, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be at 12:30 Saturday at McEwen Funeral Home. Burial will be in Forst Lawn East.

Mr. Higgs, a native of Parsons, W.Va., had retired from Amoco Polymers and was an Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Higgs; one son, Philip Lee Higgs, Charlotte; two daughters, Cheryl Higgs Fischer, Knoxville, Tenn., and Diane Higgs Bayzik, Matthews; one sister, Annette Matera, West Park, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Dorothea Hook

Retired legal secretary

Date of announcement: May 8, 1998

AIKEN -- Mrs. Dorothea I. Hook, 94, of 951 Millbrook Ave., died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at her residence.

Private funeral services will be at a later date.

Mrs. Hook, a native of New York, had retired as a legal secretary and was an Episcopalian. She was a member of the Republican Club.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Jury, Sussex, N.J.; and four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

George Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Clifford Jordan

Marine Corps retiree

Date of announcement: May 8, 1998

Mr. Clifford Jordan, 59, of 1803 Valley Park East, died Monday, May 4, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Good Samaritan Baptist Church, Columbia County, with the Revs. Robert W. Turner and Henry Curry officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown.

Mr. Jordan, a native of Wagener, Ga., had retired from the Marine Corps as a corporal and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Bauhmanville Baptist Church.

The family said he was quiet but that he touched the lives of his family and many others with whom he came in contact.

Survivors include his wife, Mattie Freeman Jordan; one daughter, Nonie S. Jordan, Augusta; one stepson, Anthony Jordan, Augusta; two stepdaughters, Rochelle Freeman and Charlotte Freeman, both of Augusta; one brother, Vaughn Jordan, Forestville, Md.; three sisters, Loretta Jordan, Adelphi, Md., Rosa J. Daniels, Forestville, and Shirley Stanton, Washington; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be members of the Marine Corps.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Williams Funeral Home.

Mrs. Doris Keenan

Homemaker

GLOVERVILLE -- Mrs. Doris Langley Nichols Keenan, 73, of 106 Turnbull St., died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. today at Hatcher Funeral Home, Langley, with the Rev. Richard Swift officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Graniteville.

Mrs. Keenan, a native of Bath, was a homemaker and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, Bath.

Survivors include her husband, Byron K. Keenan; two sons, Curtis G. Nichols and Ronald G. Nichols, both of Aiken; one daughter, Nikki Elizabeth Felker, Beech Island; one stepdaughter, Brenda Kay Keenan, Clearwater; two brothers, Bobby Langley, Bath, and Carl Langley, Burnettown; one sister, Betty Sue Laramore, Denton, Texas; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren

Pallbearers will be Ricky Langley, Darryl Meyer, Tony Langley, Joey Meyer, Ronnie Hamilton and Phillip Proctor.

Memorials may be made to Carolina Cancer Center, P.O. Box 869, Aiken, SC 29802.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home.

Mr. Carl Kendrick

Welder

THOMSON -- Mr. Carl Willie Kendrick, 50, of 619 Adams Ave., died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital, Augusta.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Greater St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Henry D. Andrews officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Tree cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mr. Kendrick, a native of McDuffie County, was a welder with Georgia Iron Works, Grovetown Plant.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Kendrick; two sons, Rico Lazenby and Donelle Lazenby, both of Thomson; two stepsons, Travis Jackson, Harlem, and Arkenya Murray, Mesena; five stepdaughters, Sheryl Lazenby, Debra Lazenby and Kimberely Jackson, all of Thomson, Sherrick Hall, Wrens, and Karmarsha Murray, Harlem; his mother, Lula Kendrick, Thomson; three brothers, Robert Willie Kendrick and Marion Kendrick, both of Thomson, and Leroy Kendrick, Atlanta; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers will be employees of Georgia Iron Works.

Friends may call at the residence.

Thomson Funeral System is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Herschel Larkin

Retired certified public accountant

Date of announcement: May 8, 1998

Mr. Herschel Rex ``Stretch" Larkin, 77, of 3004 Bransford Road, died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at his residence.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church with Dr. Roger Murchison officiating.

Mr. Larkin, a native of Beattie, Kan., had retired from Victor Markwalter Accounting Firm as certified public accountant, from Claussen Construction as a secretary-treasurer and from Maxwell Furniture as a comptroller. He was a graduate of Kansas State University, where he was a member of the band and concert band, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Exchange Club of Augusta, where he had been president, Augusta Friends of the Library and the County Tax Review Board, and volunteered with Red Cross. He was a member of Reid Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and elder.

Survivors include his wife, Maryanne Toole Larkin; four sons, Herschel Rex Larkin Jr., Savannah, Frederick Toole Larkin, Arlington, Va., and Michael Stephen Larkin and Christopher Buckley Larkin, both of Augusta; one brother, Ronald Larkin; and six grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Exchange Club of Augusta.

Memorials may be made to the Augusta Exchange Club Charity Fund, P.O. Box 3884, Augusta, GA 30914-3884.

Mr. Larkin had his body donated to the Medical College of Georgia.

Mrs. Irene Lowe

NORTH AUGUSTA -- Mrs. Irene C. Lowe, 71, of 656 Cherokee Drive, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers, Aiken.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Hatcher Funeral Home with the Rev. Herb Sons officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Graniteville.

Mrs. Lowe, a native of Baxley, Ga., had retired from Bath Mill, a division of United Merchants and Manufacturing. She was a member of Bath First Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9164, Clearwater, and MOCA Pup Tent No. 6, Columbia.

Survivors include one son, Otis Lowe Jr., Clearwater; two daughters, Kitty Thompson and Lynnette Ellison, both of Clearwater; two brothers, Murray Corley, Interlachen, Fla., and Harry Corley, Stuart, Fla.; and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Corey Ellison, Milledge Yonn, Chad Gregory, Jerry Pryor, Robert Koon and David Corley.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of VFW Post 9164 and the ladies auxiliary of VFW Post 9164.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Lynnette Ellison, 338 Hill St., Clearwater.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Willie Mackroy

Homemaker

Mrs. Willie Mae Mackroy, 107, of 529 Second Ave., died Friday, May 1, 1998, at Blair House.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Hall officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Grovetown.

Mrs. Mackroy, a native of McCormick, S.C., was a homemaker and a member of Steiner Grove Baptist Church.

The family said her trademark was her smile and the way she tried to make the burdens of those around her a little lighter.

Survivors include two daughters, Cora B. Jones and Louise Lattimore, both of Augusta; and 20 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Darrell Wittker, Frank Mackroy, Willie Lee Butler, David Chestnut and John Grant.

Friends may call at 2379 Berlin Drive or the funeral home.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Louise McClerklin

HEPHZIBAH -- Mrs. Louise Jackson McClerklin, 64, of 4367 Creekview Drive, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Columbia Augusta Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Williams Funeral Home, Augusta, with the Rev. Ellis Rice officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olive Memorial Gardens, Augusta.

Mrs. McClerklin, a native of Claxton, had retired from Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center as a registered nurse. She attended Daisy Central Public School and graduated from the Dickerson Training High School, Vidalia. She attended Georgia State College, Savannah, Paine College, Augusta, and Lamar School of Nursing, Augusta, where she received her bachelor of nursing degree.

Survivors include her husband, James McClerklin; three sons, Andrew Jackson, Fargo, N.D., Rommel Jackson, Aiken, and Hester Jackson, Augusta; three daughters, Ella Jones Winfrey, Winifred Johnson and Rene Brown, all of Augusta; two brothers, Leavy Jones, Virginia, and Arthur Jones, Florida; one sister, Mary Jones, Philadelphia; and 10 grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence of Winifred Johnson, 3111 Bellemeade Drive, or Williams Funeral Home.
