SPARTA, Ga. -- Mrs. Madeleine Sophia Brown Hutchinson, 95, of 101 E. Hamilton St., died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Patterson Funeral Home with the Revs. Merry E. Porter and George B. Owens officiating. Burial will be in Sparta cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Hutchinson, a native of Hancock County, was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women, Milledgeville, and had taught in North Carolina schools for several years. She was a member of Gaissert Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Leonora H. Earl, Sparta; a sister, Zoe Brown Harley, Sparta; and three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jason Moon, W. Julian Harley, Donald Garrett Jr., William Garrett, Dwight G. Harley, Marion Brown Veazey, John L. Veazey and John W. Harley.

Memorials may be made to Gaissert Methodist Church, Hancock County.

Friends may call at the residence or at the funeral home.

TIGNALL, Ga. -- Mrs. Sarah Rhodes Harper Matthews, 91, of 3298 Delhi Road, died Monday, June 1, 1998, at Elbert County Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be Wednesday at Beulah Baptist Church with the Revs. Jim Edwards and Skip Padgett officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mrs. Matthews, a native of Wilkes County, was a longtime resident of the Delhi Community. She was a homemaker and a member of Beulah Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, James E. Harper, Tignall, and Clarence M. Harper, Washington; a daughter, Edna H. Blakey, Tignall; and nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Harper Terry Blakey, Jeffery Blakey, Dennis Harper, Ronnie Harper and Bruce Lamar.

Memorials may be made to Beulah Baptist Church, Tignall, GA 30668.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hopkins Funeral Home, Washington.

GRANITEVILLE -- Mr. Ralph W. Phillips, 69, of 139 Midland Drive, died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

Funeral services will be held privately with the Rev. Barry Antley officiating.

Mr. Phillips, a native of Lyons, Ga., had retired from the Graniteville Co. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Cushman Phillips; two sons, Dana Phillips, Philadelphia, and Jason Phillips, Charleston; and a daughter, Felicia P. King, Maryland.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Napier Funeral Home.

Mrs. S. Lynne Phillips, of 2483 Reese Ave., died Saturday, May 30, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Lumpkin Road, with the Rev. Winston Collins officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Phillips, a native of Augusta, was a homemaker.

Her family said she was a beloved mother and wife and will be greatly missed by her family, friends and everyone who knew her.

Survivors include her husband, Michael W. Phillips; a son, Joseph ``Joey" M. Phillips, Augusta; a daughter, Lindsey Anne Phillips, Augusta; her parents, Leon Balkcum and Hazel Balkcum, Augusta; two brothers, Michael Lee Balkcum and Jason Leon Balkcum, both of Augusta; and three sisters, Sherry Ann Sealey, Dale Celise Meyers and Susan Yvonne Thurman, all of Augusta.

Pallbearers will be Jason Balkcum, Robert Salter, Dempsey Phillips, Ronald Scott, David Lawton, Chris Phillips and Ronnie Lazar.

Memorials may be made to the Lynne Phillips Memorial Trust on behalf of Joey and Lindsey Phillips c/o First Union Bank, Peach Orchard Road.

Mr. James Philpot Jr.

ATLANTA -- Mr. James Philpot Jr., 54, of 2800 Springvalley Road, apt. 40, died Thursday, May 28, 1998, at Grady Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Crawford Grove Baptist Church, Evans, with the Rev. Johnnie Bussey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mr. Philpot, a native of Columbia County, was a truck driver for Cofer Brothers Co. He was a member of Crawford Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Carrie Philpot, Atlanta; three sons, James Philpot III, Anthony Philpot and Michael Philpot, all of Atlanta; three daughters, Felecia Speakman, Pamela Philpot and Monica Philpot, all of Atlanta; a brother, Wardell Philpot; three sisters, Matilda Philpot and Ivella Philpot, both of Martinez, and Lillie Smiley, Augusta; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Starks, Fred Edwards, Carl Miller, Charles Dunn, Willie Edwards and G. King.

Friends may call at 102 Plantation Road, Martinez, or after 2 p.m. today at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home, Augusta.

Mrs. Porter, a native of Hancock County, was a homemaker.

Survivors include a brother, Willie Fred Archer, Atlanta; and four sisters, Geneva Forbes, Cornelia Morse and Mary Mitchell, all of Atlanta, and Lillie Gilbert, Sparta.

HEPHZIBAH -- Mrs. Rose Clara Silveira Rodrigues, 95, of 4416 Reynolds St., died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at Columbia Augusta Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at DeLoach Funeral Home, Hephzibah, with Michelle Adams and Matthew Adams officiating. Burial will be in Burke Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro.

Mrs. Rodrigues, a native of Sacramento, Calif., had lived in Hephzibah since 1983, and was a longtime resident of Ventura, Calif. She had retired as a legal secretary, and was a former secretary for the Sacramento Engineering Department. She was a member of San Buenaventura Mission Catholic Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Rosemary Cimak, Hephzibah; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Frank Cibak, John Cibak, Matthew Adams and Pete Adams.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Miss Connie Snipes

SALLEY -- Miss Connie Lee Snipes, 21, of Ink Berry Road, died Saturday, May 23, 1998.

Miss Snipes, a native of Orangeburg County, was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Neeses.

Snipes, Salley; a daughter, Nicole Toothe, Salley; her father, Charles Snipes, Orangeburg; her mother and stepfather, Laura Williams and Richard Williams, Salley; two brothers, James A. Snipes, Columbia, and Richard N. Williams, Salley; a sister, Rachel Williams, Salley; and her maternal grandmother, Myrtle Dempsey, Orangeburg.

Survivors include one son, Terrance Laron Abney, Greenville; her mother, Annie Mae Paige Bell, Ridge Spring; two brothers, Leonard Bell Jr., Ridge Spring, and Marvin Bell, Lithonia, Ga.; three sisters, Joyce B. Winkler, Columbia, Sherie B. Green, Augusta, and Cynthia B. Faulks, Hyattsville, Md.; and one grandchild.

Davis Funeral Home, Ridge Spring, is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Beckeleheimer, a native of Bradford, Pa., was a retired machine operator with Look Products.

Survivors include one son, Bobby Trahan, Millen; and one brother, Richard Glass, Punta Gorda, Fla.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John Baptist Church with the Revs. Curtis Blocker and E.T. Martin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mrs. Carroll, a native of Aiken County, was the owner and operator of Flowers By Louise. She was a member of St. John Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Pastor's Aide Club.

Survivors include her husband, John H. Carroll; five sons, James S. Williams, Kevin T. Carroll, Kenneth Carroll, Evans Johnson and Darrell W. Scott; her parents, John and Ella Holston; two brothers, Edward Holston and Otis Holston; three sisters, Marie Wilkerson, Linda Clark and Hilda Mims; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her nephews.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Miller's Funeral Home, Aiken.
