Mrs. Yvonne Simpson

Announcement dated June 18, 1998

Mrs. Yvonne P. Simpson, 79, of 223 Barrow Drive, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Elliott Sons Lumpkin Road Chapel with the Rev. Ken Young officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Simpson, a native of Knoxville, Tenn., was the retired owner of Kiddie Korral Day Care Center. She was a teacher at Augusta Christian Academy and a member of Four Square Gospel Church.

The family said Mrs. Simpson leaves behind a legacy of love. She was a devoted mother and a wonderful ``Nana." Mrs. Simpson spent her life serving others and had a love for children.

Survivors include three sons, Robert M. Simpson, Larry W. Coggins, and Terry B. Coggins, all of Augusta; a daughter, Jackie Storey, Augusta; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Larry Coggins, Terry Coggins, Larry Wayne Coggins, Corey Coggins, Stephen Green, David Britt and William Berry.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Robert Stone

Air Force retiree

Announcement dated June 18, 1998

WRENS, Ga. -- Mr. Robert ``Sarge" Stone, 76, of 107 Mulberry St., died Saturday, June 13, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Stone Springfield African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Leroy Britt Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mr. Stone, a native of Jefferson County, was retired from the Air Force, where he was a veteran of World War II and the Korean and Vietnam conflicts and received several commendation awards for distinguished service. He was a member of Wrens Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Amanda Stone, Rochester; two sons, Robert Stone III, Rochester, and Clifford Bostic, Augusta; two sisters, Dorothy Mae Hannah, Wrens, Marion Williams, Augusta; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be members of the Air Force.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Freeman Funeral Home.

Mr. George Yeck

Paramedic

Announcement dated June 18, 1998

GROVETOWN, Ga. -- Mr. George Kenneth Yeck, 43, of 205 Williams St., died Monday, June 15, 1998, at his residence.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Grovetown United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ted Miller officiating.

Mr. Yeck, a native of Fort Carson, Colo., was a paramedic, a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 205, and 2nd. Lt. in the Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of Grovetown United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his mother, Emily Yeck, Grovetown; a brother, Frank William Yeck, Valdosta, and three step-brothers, Jimmy Lee Yeck, Roy Marshall Yeck and Jerry Allen Yeck, all of Omaha, Neb.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, #1 Corporate Square, Suite 127, Atlanta, GA 30329.

The family will receive friends at 221 Third Ave., Grovetown. Thomas L. King Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Barbara Muller

Baby sitter

Announcement dated June 18, 1998

WASHINGTON, Ga. -- Mrs. Barbara A. Muller, 59, of 110 Bull St., died Tuesday, June 14, 1998, at her residence.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with the Rev. Anthony Cassell officiating.

Mrs. Muller, a native of Mobile, Ala., was a baby sitter and a Jehovah's Witness.

Survivors include her husband, Hezekiah Muller; four sons, Jonathan Muller and Aaron Muller, both of Athens, Benjamin Muller, New Jersey, and Stephen Muller, Washington; and three daughters, Deborah McLendon, Washington, Rachael Muller and Leah Muller, both of Athens.

McLendon Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mattie James

Retired secretary

Mrs. Mattie Leah R. James, 72, of 3491 Peach Orchard Road, died Wednesday, June 17, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Poteet Funeral Home South Chapel with the Revs. Marion Jay and Bill Kirby officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. James, a native of Augusta, was a retired bookkeeper and secretary from Suburban Propane Company. She was a charter member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Janie Branch Sunday School Class.

Survivors include her husband, Verdell M. James Sr., Augusta; a son, V.M. ``Del" James Jr., Augusta; a daughter, JoAnn J. Tapley, Augusta; a brother, Charles ``Cliff" Rosier, Augusta; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Rosier, Dwayne Rosier, Genio DePrati, Larry Hall, G.W. Sammons, Mark Owens, Stanley Bugg and Russell Dye.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Janie Branch Sunday School Class, Cokesbury United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 2005 Windsor Spring Road, Augusta, GA 30906.

Friends may call at the funeral home or the residence.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Vallie Jackson

WRIGHTSVILLE, Ga. -- Mrs. Vallie ``Pat" H. Jackson, 92, died Wednesday, June 17, 1998, at Dublinair Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Brown Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. J.E. Hutto officiating. Burial will be in Westview cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Jackson, a native of Johnson County, was a homemaker and a member of Brown Memorial Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Margaret Brantley Sunday School Class.

Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne J. Strickland, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Freema J. Spivey, Wrightsville; a son-in-law, Richard E. Strickland, Fort Walton; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Barry Gordon, Truett Jefferson Spivey, Gregory Thomas Spivey, Frank Jackson, Jack Evans and Eric Jackson.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Margaret Brantley Sunday School Class.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Richard and Joyce Stanley Funeral Home Inc.

Mr. James Hurley

Retired chemist

Mr. James A. Hurley, 69, of Augusta died Wednesday, June 17, 1998, at his residence.

A memorial mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary On The Hill Catholic Church.

Mr. Hurley, a native of Boston, was a retired chemist from the Savannah River Site and an Army veteran. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Health Physics Society. He was a member of St. Mary On The Hill Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Florence Hope Hurley; a son, Michael Hurley, North Augusta; a daughter, Hope W. Keldie, Tyrone; two sisters, Mary McLaughlin and Rose LaBreck, both of Boston, and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Hospice 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30904 or to the Catholic Social Services.

Mr. Lonnie R. Hickey

Retired U.S. Marshal

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. Mr. Lonnie R. Hickey, 51, died Sunday, June 14, 1998, at his residence.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, Jacksonville. Burial will be in Marion, Ill.

Mr. Hickey, a native of Arkansas, was a retired U.S. Marshal. He served as a police officer in Washington, D.C., and as a Deputy U.S. Marshal in Augusta, Savannah, Kansas City, Mo., and Jacksonville. He also served as the U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Georgia, the Middle District of Alabama, and the Middle District of Florida. Mr. Hickey is the only person to have served as a U.S. Marshal in more than one judicial district.

Survivors include two brothers, Charles Hickey, Springfield, Mo., and Mike Hickey, Mineral Springs, Ark.; and a sister, Sue Johnson, Bellevue, Ill.

Mrs. Berdie Mae Hatton

WRIGHTSVILLE, Ga. -- Mrs. Berdie Mae Hatton, 94, died Wednesday, June 17, 1998.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Brown Memorial Baptist Church with the Revs. Kelly Maddox and M.F. Price officiating. Burial will be in Westview cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Connor, a native of Colquitt County, was a homemaker and a member of Brown Memorial Baptist Church where she was a member of the Margaret Brantley Sunday School Class. She was a member of Eastern Star.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Young, Wrightsville; and three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be W.H. Smith, Daley Powell, Jackie Crabb, Willis Wombles, Phillip Boatwright and Ervin Brinson.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Richard and Joyce Stanley Funeral Home Inc.

Mr. William Glass

Dairy farmer and carpenter

GREENSBORO, Ga. -- Mr. William Jackson Glass, 84, of 1100 Cedar Grove Road, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at Morgan Memorial Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Mount Vernon cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Monroe, with the Rev. Paul Glass officiating.

Mr. Glass, a native of Walton County, was a retired dairy farmer and carpenter. He attended high school in Gratis and was a Protestant.

Survivors include his wife, Ella Reece Griffeth Glass; two sons, Roger P. Glass Sr., Bogart, and William Ray Glass Sr., Griffin; one sister, Sarah Nell King, Brookheaven; two brothers, Harold Glass, Greensboro, and Royce Glass, Siloam; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Phil Glass, Perry Glass, Bill Glass, Brad Glass, Mike Moody and David Ellis.

Friends may call at McCommons Funeral Home.
