Grace F. Hearn

CLAXTON - Grace Flanigan Hearn, 96, died June 13 at Claxton Nursing Home.

She was member of Bellville United Methodist Church and was a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years. She was a past matron of the Order of Eastern Star in Evans County, a Red Cross volunteer during World War II and a humanitarian. She was a retired Evans County schoolteacher and the widow of Coy Hearn.

SURVIVORS: two sons, H.C. Hearn Jr. and Charles W. Hearn, both of Claxton; a sister, Mamie Lou Hines; and seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. today at NeSmith Funeral Home in Claxton, burial in Brewton cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

John R. Kelsey

HILTON HEAD ISLAND - John R. Kelsey died June 13 at Hilton Head Island Medical Center and Clinics.

He was a native of Toledo, Ohio, a graduate of Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Conn., and Yale University in New Haven, Conn. He was a Navy veteran of World War II who served aboard an aircraft carrier in the Pacific. He was active in northwest Ohio area lumber circles for 30 years as president of Kelsey Freeman and later Lumber Suppliers. He was a president of Ohio Lumber Association and Toledo Area Lumber Dealers as well as the Toledo Small Business Association and Toledo Country Club. He was formerly treasurer and vestryman for St. Michael's in the Hills Episcopal Church. He was a member of American Institute of CPAs. He moved to Hilton Head Island permanently in 1980 and was president and treasurer of Hilton Head Humane Association. He was also a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Sea Pines Country Club, Bear Creek Country Club and Hilton Head Rotary Club.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Bobbie Withrow Kelsey ; three sons, Reeve W. Kelsey of Toledo, John L. Kelsey of Columbia, Mo., and Peter B. Kelsey of Greer; a sister, Eleanor Kopf of Fort Myers, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.

Private memorial services and burial will be held in Woodlawn cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery in Toledo.

Dorothy Fairley

LUMBER CITY - Dorothy Fairley, 88, died June 13 at Jeff Davis County Hospital in Hazlehurst.

She was a native of Brantley County and a resident of the Brian Center in Lumber City the past five years. She was a former resident of Waycross and Contentment Bluff in McIntosh County. She retired from the city of Waycross and was a member of First Baptist Church in Waycross.

SURVIVORS: her stepmother, Mary D. Gordon of Ludowici; a sister, Rubye David of Jesup; four half sisters, Nell Horne, Maree Smith, Lillian Simmons and Jan Mixon, all of Ludowici; three half brothers, Everett S. Gordon of Lumber City, W.R. Gordon of Lilburn and James R. Gordon of Jesup; and several nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 6-9 p.m. today at Gordon-Harrison Funeral Home, Jesup.

Earl W. Agee

Earl William Agee, 93, died June 12 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was a native of Owenton, Ky., and a member of Morningside Baptist Church and Telephone Pioneers of America. He retired from ATT after 45 years.

SURVIVORS: two daughters, Della A. Traeger of Savannah and Betty A. Moye of Camden, S.C.; a sister, Lillian Hayden of Palatka, Fla.; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Robert L. Stewart

JESUP - Robert Lee Stewart, 85, died June 13 at home.

He was a native of Jeff Davis County, a longtime resident of Wayne County and retired from Waynline. He was a former employee of Wayne County Landfill and a member and deacon of Spring Grove Free Will Baptist Church.

SURVIVORS: a daughter, Margie Beverly of Jesup; a son, Robert E. Stewart of Jesup; a sister, Eva Jackson of Lumber City; a brother, Harrison Stewart of Fort Pierce, Fla.; and six grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Ruby R. Bishop

JESUP - Ruby Roberson Bishop, 85, died June 14 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Hastings, Fla., and lived in Wayne County most of her life. She was the widow of Judge Gordon Bishop. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Naomi Sunday School Class and XYC of the church. She was also a member of Ben Gibbs Chapter No. 299, the Order of Eastern Star.

SURVIVORS: a daughter, Carolyn B. Maley of Virginia Beach, Va.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles G. and Nannette Bishop and Frederick L. and Connie Bishop, all of Jesup, and Demery and Bonnie Bishop of West Virginia; a brother, Ben Roberson of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Thelma L. Cline of Jesup; a number of grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pauline C. Kelly

Pauline Creech Kelly, 83, died June 14 at Candler Hospital.

She was a lifelong resident of Savannah. She was a member of First Christian Church, the Emma Salter Sunday School Class and the Christian Women's Fellowship. She and her husband owned and operated Creech's Market for many years.

SURVIVORS: two daughters, Betty C. Clanton and Ouida C. Smith, both of Savannah; a son, Tommy Creech of Savannah; two stepdaughters, a stepson, 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Virginia B. Frankenthaler

HINESVILLE - Mrs. Virginia B. Frankenthaler died June 14 at Liberty Regional Medical Center.

She was a native of Arab, Ala., and lived in Hinesville the past 25 years. She attended Bradley High School in Huntsville, Ala., and received a B.S. degree from Auburn University in Auburn, Ala. She did graduate work at Adelphia College in Long Island, N.Y. She did volunteer work for several local organizations and events. She was a member of the American Association of the University Women; the Liberty County Historical Society; the Liberty County Humane Society, where she served on the board; the AARP, the International Social Service and the Liberty County Republican Club.

SURVIVORS: her husband, S.E. Frankenthaler Jr. of Hinesville; a daughter, Debbie Gaskin of Springfield; a son, Stanley E. Frankenthaler III of Charlestown, Mass.; a brother, Clinton Boyd of Dallas; two grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Carter Funeral Home in Hinesville.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Friday at Carter Funeral Home.

Burial will be private.

James L. McGahee III

James Larry McGahee III, 30, died June 14 at Candler Hospital.

He was born in Savannah. He had formerly worked at Harold's Paint and Body Shop in Rincon and Wilson's Truck and Trailer Co. in Garden City. He was working at Sapp's Wrecker Service in Port Wentworth. He was a Baptist.

SURVIVORS: two sons, James Mason McGahee of Orlando, Fla., and Harley C. McGahee of Port Wentworth; a stepson, Justin A. Mixon of Port Wentworth; his mother, Brenda Flanders McGahee of Port Wentworth; his stepfather, Wilbur Carl Smith of South Guyton; a sister, Michelle McGahee of California; two stepbrothers, Eric and Jeremy Smith of South Guyton; a stepsister, Kim Coker of Bloomingdale; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed M. Flanders of Port Wentworth; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James L. McGahee Sr. of Pooler; his fiancee, Kimberly Mixon of Port Wentworth; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Herschel V. Thompson

AILEY - Herschel Van "H.V." Thompson, 89, died June 15 at Meadows Nursing Center of Vidalia.

He was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, a graduate of Brewton-Parker College and attended the University of Georgia for two years. He was preparing for his medical degree when the Depression came in the early 1930's he returned to Ailey to help his father in the lumber business. Later he was a partner with his brother, T.G. Thompson, in the ownership of H.V. and T.G. Thompson Lumber Co. in Ailey.

He was president of the Southeastern Lumber Manufacturing Association and Agri-business Man of the Year in 1970. He was a community leader and deacon of Ailey Baptist Church, serving as clerk for more than 50 years. He served Brewton-Parker College as a trustee for more than 40 years and was awarded Citizen of the Year for Brewton-Parker College in 1994. He also served as a director of the Montgomery County Bank for many years and was a former member of Vidalia Country Club and Georgia Seniors Golf Association.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Edna Watkins Thompson of Ailey; a son and daughter-in-law, Van Thompson III and Nina Thompson of Ailey; four sisters, Eula Mae Brown and Elizabeth Burke, both of Vidalia, Eileen Leroy of Ailey and Katie Walker of Bamberg, S.C.; two brothers, James and Ned Thompson, both of Ailey; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Dooly County and lived in Telfair County since 1961. He was employed by Lumber City Egg.

SURVIVORS: a son, Cole Harris of Lumber City; a sister, Pat Mincy of Lumber City; a brother, Ralph Harris of Hazlehurst; a sister-in-law, Georgia Harris of Hazlehurst; a brother-in-law, Charles Mincey of Lumber City; and several nieces and nephews, including Nikki Mincey.

RICHMOND HILL - Richard E. Williamson, 49, died June 14 at home.

He was born in Chatham County and lived in Richmond Hill for 25 years. He was a graduate of Georgia Southern University in Statesboro. He retired as manager of Southeastern Recycling Co. in Garden City and was self-employed as a financial broker for New Home Construction in Richmond Hill. He was a Baptist.

SURVIVORS: two sons, Sean R. Williamson of Greenville, S.C., and Ryan E. Williamson of Athens; a brother, Johnny C. Williamson Jr. of Richmond Hill; a nephew, Mark G. Williamson of Richmond Hill; and several aunts and uncles.

Eileen McBride Kolman, 85, died June 15 at Azalealand Nursing Home.

She was born in Dublin and was a member of Wilmington Island Presbyterian Church. She was a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II at the Southeastern Shipyard and was an avid gardener. She was the widow of Barney Kolman.

SURVIVORS: two daughters and sons-in-law, Bette and Edward Perry of Savannah and Dolly and Franklin Beacham of Statesboro; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Anne Kolman of Savannah; a brother, J.P. McBride of West Richmond, Wash.; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Etheleen Dickerson James of Lyons; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gary D. James of Lyons and Willie G. James Jr. and Sharon James of Crestview, Fla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Oralene and Jack Morris of Lyons; a brother and sister-in-law, Cove and Laneth James of Savannah; a grandson, Benjamin James of Raleigh, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
