STATESBORO -- William E. Waldren, 76, died June 18 at Shadow Moss Personal Care Home in Savannah.

He was a native of Ohio and lived in California and Atlanta before moving to Statesboro six months ago. He was a retired mechanical engineer with Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Co., and alumnus of the University of Southern California. He was a Mason and an Army veteran of World War II.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Hildagarde C. Waldren of Statesboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie A. and Kenny Stone of Statesboro; a sister, Audrey Hilliard of Lancaster, Ohio; three half-brothers, Urban Gochoel Jr., and Brian and Alben Gochoel; and three grandchildren.

FUNERAL: 10 a.m. today at Hodges-Turner Funeral Home in Statesboro, entombment in Bulloch Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Cora E. Wells

STONE MOUNTAIN -- Cora Eppley Wells, 88, died June 17 at Rosemont Nursing Home.

She was a native of Gastonia, N.C., and a resident of St. Simons Island for 45 years, moving to the Atlanta area five years ago. She was an office manager for Way, Peters, Cowden and Langford of Brunswick. She had received consecutive high achievement awards in sales as an Avon representative. She was a former member of Sea Island Golf club.

SURVIVORS: a sister, Juanita McWilliams of Lithonia; three nieces, Jackie Warren of Tucker, Bernadette Cali of San Pedro, Calif., and Joanne Wall of Niagara, Wis.; and three nephews, Ralph W. Eppley Jr. of West Covina, Calif., Donald Eppley of Spring Park, Minn., and Robert L. Williams of Jonesboro.

CROCKETVILLE, S.C. -- Dessie White, 78, died June 15.

He was born in Hampton County. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a retiree of Clark and Company.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Lizzie Drayton White of Crocketville; three sons, Dessie White Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., Corey W. White of Hampton and Jerold White of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five daughters, Felicia and Nicole White, both of Hampton, Edite and Lois White, both of Brooklyn, and Keisha White of Savannah; two brothers, Tony White of Hampton and Sidney White of Topeka, Kan.; and two sisters, Mamie Black and Ann White, both of Tampa Fla.

Verna L. Blalock

LYONS -- Mrs. Verna Lou Blalock, 72, died June 19 in Vidalia.

She was born in Toombs County and was a sales clerk for Gibson's and Wal-Mart stores. She was a member of Freewill Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a Bible school instructor. She was Girl Scout leader and a member of Lyons Senior Citizens Club.

SURVIVORS: her husband, William Blalock of Lyons; three daughters, Kathleen J. Steransky, Geraldine J. Eason and Bernadine J. White, all of Lyons; a sister, Iris Moore Falcone of Ocala, Fla.; a brother, William P. Moore of Warner Robins; three grandchildren, Archie Edenfield, Amber Eason and Jeanna White; and nieces and nephews.

Marie E. Burke

PEMBROKE -- Mrs. Marie Edna Burke, 74, died June 19 at Candler Hospital.

She was a native of Wheeler County and lived in Pembroke most of her life before moving to Savannah Summit Apartments several years ago. She was a charter member of Northside Independent Baptist Church in Pembroke. She was the widow of James L. Burke and a homemaker.

SURVIVORS: two sons, James C. and Roger D. Burke, both of Pembroke; five daughters, Arleen B. Minovich of Ellabell, Patricia Ann B. Cassidy of Mauldin, S.C., Betty B. Gilles of Pooler, Janet B. Corbett of Guyton and Angela Suler of Brooklet; a sister, Frances Chassereau of Pembroke; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

SOPERTON -- Fuquay Bussell, 82, died June 19 at Treutlen Nursing Home.

She was a lifelong resident of Treutlen County and lived at Treutlen Nursing Home for three years. She was the widow of Homer Bussell and a homemaker. She was a member of Red Bluff Baptist Church in Treutlen County.

SURVIVORS: three sisters, Lavada Morris and Myrtice Horton, both of Soperton, and Bertice Lockerby of Putney, Vt.; several nieces and nephews.

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Mrs. Thelma Cooler Roberts Clark, 74, died June 18 at Richland Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Bluffton. She retired as budget assistant with the civil service. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Agape Sunday School Class in Columbia. She was a former member of Shell Point Baptist Church, where she was active in church activities.

SURVIVORS: two sons, Wayne T. Roberts of Columbia and Glen A. Roberts of Beaufort; a stepdaughter, Sandra C. Pippin of Jacksonville, N.C.; five brothers, Homer and Clayton Cooler, both of Beaufort, Jasper Cooler of Eutawville, Edward Riley of Demotte, Ind., and Raymond Cooler of Jeffersonville, Ind.; four sisters, Margaret Long, Bessie Smith and Betty Colley, all of Beaufort, and Jennie Gleason of Mount Pleasant; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Eugene F. "Rex" England, 73, died June 18 at home.

He was a native of Indiana and a member of Rincon Baptist Temple. He was formerly a program director for WTOC-TV. He was a Navy and Air Force veteran of World War II.

SURVIVORS: two daughters, Christi Boatright of Rincon and Sharon Harrison of Florida; a son, Bobby Harrison of Florida; a stepdaughter, Lois Wilson of Richmond Hill; two stepsons, Charlie Miller Jr. of Midway and Bobby Miller of Savannah; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial service was Saturday at Rincon Baptist Temple.

Ethel B. Gaston

Mrs. Ethel Cornelia Bogan Gaston, 69, died June 19 at Candler Hospital.

She was born in Savannah and lived in New York for 30 years, and returned to Savannah 10 years ago. She received a bachelor's degree in education from Savannah State University and attended Hunter College in New York and Queens College in New York. She was a retired teacher with the Uniondale New York School System. She was a member of TAGS (Teen Age Girls) and the Savannah MOLES, past vice president of the Savannah Sophisticates and the Group North and South.

SURVIVORS: a son and daughter in-law, Edward S. and Deborah S. Gaston of Rosedale, N.Y.; her mother, Ethel Sawyer Bogan of Tybee Island; three sisters, Kathryn B. Johnson of Tybee Island, Dorothy B. LaSaine of Washington, D.C., and Mary B. Ward of Savannah; a brother, Walter J. Bogan of Guttenberg, N.J.; an uncle, Merritt B. Sawyer of Savannah; four nephews, two nieces and other relatives.

Orie Tendell Banks, 80, died June 19 at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born in Tattnall County. He was a graduate of Glennville High School and a 1950 graduate of the University of Georgia. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was Dean of Students for the Admiral Faragut Naval Academy Prep School in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Temple, where he was a member of Bible Learners Sunday School Class and was an usher.

SURVIVORS: two sisters, Pearlie Fleischman of Augusta and Roberta Strickland of Claxton; several nieces, nephews and several great-nieces.

She was born in Emanuel County and lived in Mobile, Ala., for many years and returned to Glennville 22 years ago. She was the widow of J.C. Jeffers Sr., a homemaker and a Baptist.

SURVIVORS: a stepdaughter, Hazel McCall of Lyons; three stepsons, Doy Jeffers of Byron, and J.C. Jeffers Jr., and Linvard Jeffers, both of Vidalia; several nephews and nieces, including Reggie and Modena Collins, both of Glennville; and six stepgrandchildren.

GLENNVILLE -- Miss Mary H. Kicklighter, 100, died June 16 at Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton.

She was born in Fredonia, Ky., and graduated from Tennessee College for girls in Murfreesboro, Tenn. She was the oldest member of First Christian Church in Glennville, where she was pianist and organist for more than 50 years and was active at the church. She was the widow of Prentice Kicklighter.

SURVIVORS: a daughter, Mary Ann Fulghum of Garden City; two sons, Edward H. Kicklighter of San Diego and Kerry P. Kicklighter of Townsend; 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
