Mrs. Mildred Eloise Long Lindroth, 79, died June 24 at Azalealand Nursing Home.

She was born in Terra Haute, Ind., and lived in Savannah most of her life. She was the widow of Carl E. Lindroth. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and retired from American Oil Co.

SURVIVORS: a brother, Thomas E. Long Sr. of Savannah; two sisters, Dorothy Jean Corcoran of Savannah and Gladys Mae Hall of Vero Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held today in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park Mausoleum.

HAMPTON, S.C. - Mrs. Ella G. Joyner, 75, died June 23 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Allendale County and was associated with Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton as a housekeeper for 30 years. She was a member of Glad Tidings Chapter of the Eastern Star and a member of Huspah Baptist Church in Hampton.

SURVIVORS: her husband, James H. Joyner of Hampton; a son and daughter-in-law, Alfred J. and Linda Joyner of Hampton; a daughter and son-in-law, Rosella Roberson and Wendell V. Roberson Sr. of Beaufort; and three grandchildren, Ikeisha Joyner, Alexis Roberson and Wendell Roberson Jr.

VISITATION: 7-8 p.m. today at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, Hampton Chapel.

FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Friday at Huspah Baptist Church, burial in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery near Varnville.

Julia A. Kirkland

Mrs. Julia Arnold Kirkland, 82, died June 24 at Memorial Medical Center.

She was a native of Sylvania and lived in Savannah more than 53 years. She attended the public schools of Screven County and taught in the Screven County school system. She was a retired licensed practical nurse. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women's Society and was communion steward and a class leader. She also was a member of the Charity and Goodwill Society.

SURVIVORS: a son, the Rev. Marvin W. Kirkland of Savannah; a daughter, Hilda F. Johnson-Slaton of Atlanta; a sister, Thelma Tyson of Savannah; six grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Saturday at Asbury United Methodist Church, burial in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.

Roscoe Floyd

Roscoe Floyd, 71, died June 24.

He was a native of Hart County. He retired from APAC and was owner of Holiday Mobile Home Park. He was a member of Silk Hope Baptist Church.

Floyd of Savannah; a son, Clayton Floyd Sr. of Savannah; four brothers, Donald, Mack and Andrew Floyd, all of Royston, and Jerry Floyd of Greenwood, S.C.; two sisters, Ruth Wonsley of Royston and Mattie Pearl Beggs of Royston; and two grandchildren, Charissa Floyd and Clayton Floyd Jr., both of Savannah.

RIDGELAND - Cleo Hodges Daley, 87, died June 23 at Ridgeland Nursing Center.

She was born in Ridgeland. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

SURVIVORS: a son, O. Hopson Daley of Ridgeland; a daughter, Olivia D. Still of Blackville; four grandchildren, Tripp and Wilbur Daley and Howard and Lee Anne Still; and four great-grandchildren.

VISITATION: will begin at 3 p.m. today at the home of Cleo Daley in Grahamville.

Mrs. Marion Williams, 84, died June 22 at Candler Hospital.

She was born and educated in Toombs County and lived in Savannah most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Thankful Baptist Church, where she served as secretary of the Senior Mission for many years.

SURVIVORS: a brother, Anderson W. Griner of Palatka, Fla.; several cousins, including Corene Milton of Palatka; and other relatives.

Bernadeane Johnson Shinall, 82, died June 24 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was born in Dublin and lived most of her life in Savannah since 1950. She was a member of Charlotte United Methodist Church, the American Hemerocallis Society and a homemaker.

SURVIVORS: her husband, William F. Shinall of Savannah; daughters, Yvonne Hodges of Savannah and Dorothy Newman of Savannah; a son, Ken A. Duncan of Richmond Hill; a sister, Ila Mae Harrell of Vidalia; grandchildren, Brenda Delaigle of Brooklet, William Frost of Savannah, Barbara Aliffi of Midway, John Duncan of Savannah and Anthony Duncan of Richmond Hill; and five great-grandchildren.

NAHUNTA - Herschel Wendell Herrin Jr., 50, died June 23.

He was a native of Wayne County and a member of Nahunta First Baptist Church. He served as a councilman for the city of Nahunta from 1989-1991. He was employed with Waters Ford Co. in Blackshear.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Rene Townsend Herrin of Nahunta; three sons, Tripp and Brad Herrin and Joey Saunds, all of Nahunta; a daughter, Ruthie Herrin of Nahunta; his mother, Oma Lee Branch Herrin of Nahunta; two sisters, Lynn Asbury of Perry and Beth Johnson of Hinesville; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

FUNERAL: 3 p.m. today at Nahunta First Baptist Church, burial in Oak Grove Cemetery in the Raybon community.

Mrs. Winnie Hanson Wallace, 68, of Tybee Island, died June 24 at Memorial Medical Center.

She was born in Calcutta, India, and moved to Savannah in 1995 from Marietta. She was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses.

SURVIVORS: her husband, Thomas Wallace of Tybee Island; three daughters, Lysbeth Abercrombie of Concord, N.C., Jill Taylor of Atlanta and Wendy Ragsdale of Tybee Island; a brother, Trevor Hanson of Greenville, S.C.; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mary R. Billings
Mrs. Mary Griner Rogers Billings, 85, died June 24 at Azalealand Nursing Home.

She was a native of Screven County and the widow of Robert Lee Rogers and Cecil Billings. She was a secretary of Rogers Insurance Agency until her retirement. She was a graduate of Julliard Conservatory of Music, had served as Director of the quartet at Temple Mickve Israel and also as soloist with First Baptist Church and Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church and served as church pianist. She was a piano and voice teacher in Savannah for many years.

SURVIVORS: a sister-in-law, Mrs. Johnnie R. Rogers of Savannah; a cousin, Martha Bell of St. Simons Island; and several nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. today at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, burial in Bonaventure Cemetery.

Fred Schafer
BROOKLET - Fred Schafer, 87, died June 25 at Bulloch Memorial Hospital in Statesboro.

He was born in Savannah and recently moved to Brooklet. He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and served on the Board of Elders. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge, a life member and past president of the German Friendly Society, a life member of the German Country Club, a member of the Moose Lodge, a past president of Savannah Volunteer Guards, a past president of Bethesda Alumni and a member of Union Society of Bethesda. He retired as a supervisor with the city of Savannah after 25 years and also retired from the Chatham County Sheriffıs Department after 20 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Ella Baker Schafer of Brooklet; a son, Charles F. Schafer Sr. of Brooklet; five grandchildren, Charles F. Schafer Jr. of Dallas, William R. Schafer of Brooklet, Thomas E. Schafer Jr. and Stephanie Schafer, both of Savannah, and Lori S. King of Statesboro; and two great-granddaughters, Faith and Hope Schafer, both of Brooklet.

He was born in the Philippines and retired from the Navy after 22 years. He lived and worked in Richmond Hill the past eight years. He was employed at Magnolia Manor and was supervisor over the kitchen. He was a member of Richmond Hill United Methodist Church.

SURVIVORS: a daughter, Luzviminda Indalos of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, Evan Indalos of Jacksonville; seven brothers, three sisters and several nieces and nephews.

SURVIVORS: a daughter, Lunell Smith of Hollywood, Fla.; three sons, Curtis Smith of Huntsville, Ala., Robert Smith of Register and Edward Smith of Statesboro; her father and stepmother, Lee and Polly Sharpe; four sisters, Sara Rose Sharp of Lyons, Lurena Smith Hamilton of West Palm Beach, Fla., Louise Jackson of Ocala, Fla., and Bessie Carson of Savannah; two brothers, Jimmy Sharpe of Savannah and Joe Sharpe of Reidsville; and a host of other relatives.

He was a native of Johnson County and lived in Appling County most of his life. He was a member of Baxley Church of God and a retired jeweler. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

SURVIVORS: two daughters, Eloise Taylor and Betty Beasley, both of Baxley; a son, Johnnie A. Beasley of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

She was born in Savannah and was a columnist for The Savannah Tribune. She was a member of Bethel AME Church, the Missionary Society, Ministries Wives & Widows and served as church organist. She was a volunteer with the Red Cross and in the community.

SURVIVORS: daughters, Yvonne Blake Ervin of Camden, N.J., and Brenda J. Blake of College Park; a son, Charles C. Blake Jr. of Washington; a brother, Herman B. Morgan Sr. of Savannah; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
