HARDEEVILLE - Mrs. Albertha "Berta" Jenkins, 53, died June 28 at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah.
She was a native of Hardeeville and attended Jasper County public schools. She was a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church and sang in the Senior Choir and was a member of the Pastor Aide Club.
SURVIVORS: her husband, Stephen Jenkins Jr. of Hardeeville; two daughters, Laura Manderson of Bluffton and Monica J. Riley of Garden City; two sons, Eddie L. Jenkins of Hardeeville and Samuel Jenkins of Rincon; a foster son, Dominick Jenkins of Hardeeville; her adopted father, Sam Carswell Jr. of Hardeeville; six sisters, Beatrice Green, Ida Bell Maxwell, Carrie B. Chisolm, Chaney Bright and Mary Mack, all of Hardeeville, and Rebecca Edwards of Savannah; two adopted sisters, Lillian Chisolm of Hardeeville and Mary L. Brownlee of Atlanta; three brothers, Sammie Green of Greenville, Earl Green of Detroit and Eugene Green of Springfield, Ga.; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Juan A. Millan
Juan Angel Millan, 76, died June 26 at St. Joseph's Hospital.
He was born in San German, Puerto Rico, and retired from the Army. He served in World War II and the Korean conflict. He was owner of Juan's Mexican Restaurant and Empire Comets and Collectables.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Evelyn Oliver Millan of Savannah; two sons, Harry Millan of Kent, Wash., and Johnny Millan of San Jose, Calif.; four daughters, Alba Lovet of Omaha, Neb., Sally Millan of San Jose, Iris Millan of Germany and Carmen Millan of Longwood, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Carolyn A. Burris of Spraggs, Pa., and Marily R. Johnson of Richmond Hill; 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Elaine S. Barr
HILTON HEAD ISLAND - Elaine S. Barr, 78, died June 28 at Hilton Head Medical Center and Clinics.
She was born in Fulda, Minn., and moved to Hilton Head Island in 1993 from Pasadena, Calif. She was a member of Island Lutheran Church and the widow of Homer Randolph Barr.
SURVIVORS: a daughter, Melanie Barr of Hilton Head Island; three brothers, Gerald Schwarz of Fulda, Orville Schwarz of Orr, Minn., and Ivan Schwarz of Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Evelyn Barr of Huntington Beach, Calif; a grandson, Erick Randolph Barr of Hilton Head Island; several nieces and nephews, including Valoree and Daryl Vlferts, both of Bloomington, Minn., and Joselin and Lee Pals, both of Henderson, Nev.

Maudie P. Bacon
GLENNVILLE - Maudie Powell Bacon, 81, died June 28.
She was a native of Tattnall County and lived in Glennville all of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Harmony United Methodist Church.
SURVIVORS: two daughters, Mary B. Bargeron and Lavern B. Sapp, both of Glennville; a brother, Morgan Powell of Glennville; five grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Clyde W. Rowell
Clyde Watson Rowell, 90, died June 29.
He was a native of Hortense and lived in Savannah for many years. He worked with Seaboard Coast Line Railroad as master of a ferry boat and was known as Capt. Rowell. He later retired from American Cyanamid as chief of the security force. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and served on the Administrative Board and the Board of Trustees. He was also a member of the Marvin O'Neill Sunday School Class and the Men's Club. He helped during the restoration of Trinity Methodist after the church fire of October 1991.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Ruby Roberts Rowell of Savannah; a daughter, Dorothy L. Williams of Savannah; two sons, Clyde W. Rowell Jr. and Clair M. Rowell, both of Washington; a brother, Alvin J. Rowell of Eden; and several nieces and nephews.

Ryan Christopher Elenbaas, infant son of Peter and Lori Elenbaas of Savannah, died June 27 at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

Adrienne Roberts
Adrienne Bradley Gantt Roberts, 94, a Savannah historical preservationist and political activist, died June 29.
Her work with historical preservation and the marking of historic sites in the Savannah area led to her appointment to the Savannah-Chatham County Historic Sites and Monuments Commission, of which she became a lifetime member.
She worked with many city, state and federal administrations on such endeavors. She also pushed and got Georgia legislative passage of a bill to establish the mechanics to celebrate Georgia's 250th birthday.
Her work with the Revolutionary Battle Park Inc., of which she was president, resulted in the saving of the historically significant Southern Railway buildings and railroad arches from demolition, as well as the establishment of the Great Savannah Exposition, the Savannah Visitors Center and History Museum and the Historic Railroad Buildings now operated by the Coastal Heritage Society.
She was born in Anderson, S.C., and moved to Savannah with her late husband, William Medicus Roberts.
She helped to run local headquarters for several gubernatorial candidates in Georgia. She also sought office in a 1st Congressional District race and as a write-in candidate for governor against Jimmy Carter when he first ran for that post. She served as vice president of the state Democratic Party.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she served as head of the Adult Sunday School Class for many years. She was a member of the Savannah Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, National Huguenot Society, Altrusa Club, English Speaking Union, Clan Colquhoun Society of N.A., and Clan Pollock Society and Hadassah. She was a founder and prime motivator in the establishment of the Clan Colquhoun Society in the South.
She was a former proofreader for the Atlanta Constitution and Savannah News-Press. She was one of the first women in the country to become a member of the typographers' union. She attended Oglethorpe University and became a lifelong member of Kappa Delta Sorority.
SURVIVORS: two daughters, Elizabeth Timmerman of Harrisburg, Pa., and Florine Roberts-Ostein of Savannah; three sons, Dan Roberts of Atlanta and Larry and William Roberts, both of Savannah; and eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

BRUNSWICK - Arthur Ham Elliott, 85, died June 29 at Hospice of the Golden Isles.
He was born in Eatonton and lived in Glynn County for 20 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Brunswick Kiwanis Club.

WHITEVILLE, N.C. - Quentin Wade Hodges, 79, died June 23.
He was an Air Force veteran of World War II, a deacon of First Baptist Church and a member of Whiteville Lions Club.

Eula H. Gethers
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Eula Hicks Gethers, 53, died June 22 at Youdville Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Savannah and graduated from Thompson High School. She studied at Morris Brown University in Atlanta and worked as a volunteer for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and as a secretary for the Freedom Fighters during the civil rights movement. She was employed as a medical secretary at Boston University at the time of her death. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Boston.
SURVIVORS: her husband, Sylvester Gethers of Boston; a daughter, Tracey Hicks of Boston; two brothers, Elexander Hicks Jr. of Tennessee and Dwight Hicks of Virginia; a sister, Aleather Boatwright of Florence, S.C.; three grandchildren, Shanice and Brantley Hicks and Keenan Ottley, all of Boston; and other relatives.

He was a lifelong resident of Evans County. He was a member of Hagan Baptist Church and a retired heavy equipment operator.
