Mollie K. Fortuna, 91, of Lawrenceville, GA died on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, GA. She was born in Pine Bluff, AK to the late Carter B. Murphy and Barbara Conley Murphy, the family owned the Fairfield Plantation outside Pine Bluff, AK. She graduated from LSU School of Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Davis Hospital in Pine Bluff, AK and Norwalk Hospital in Norwalk, CT where she retired after 20 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, David R. Fortuna; brothers, John P. Murphy, Conley T. Murphy; and sister, Mary Elizabeth Murphy. Funeral services for Mrs. Fortuna were held on November 11, 2010 at St. George Catholic Church, Father Austin Fogarty officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to any church or the library of one’s choice. Dorothy “Dot” Ann Spinks, 72, died on Monday, November 8, 2010 at her home in Newnan, GA. She was born December 17, 1937 in Grantville, GA to the late Otis Payton & Clara Smallwood Payton. She was a member of Lovejoy Memorial United Methodist Church. The funeral service is Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of McKoon Funeral Home, Rev. Danny Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The visitation is Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at McKoon Funeral Home. Sara Haynes
7/8/1923 - 11/8/2010

Sara Elizabeth Threatt Haynes, a resident of Moreland, passed away peacefully at her residence on November 8, 2010. She was born July 8, 1923 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina and was one of nine children born to the late Oscar Alexander and Lucy Jane Mahaffey Threatt. In addition to six of her siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Lamar Haynes. They had been married for 50 years prior to his death in 1997. Sara was a graduate of Berry College in Rome where she attained her degree in education. She taught in the public schools in Coweta County for 30 years. She was an active participant in the community of Moreland and served as mayor for 6 years. A loyal and devoted member of Moreland United Methodist Church, she taught Sunday School and was the church organist for many years. Surviving Sara are her children Jimmy Haynes, Bill Haynes and his wife Bonnie and Betty Haynes Chase and her husband Richard. Her grandchildren are Larry, Brian and Matthew McDaniel and Sara and Amanda Chase. Also surviving are two sisters, Gertrude Potts and Julia Lyman. Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street. The family will have visitation on Wednesday evening between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Moreland United Methodist Church with Dr. David Brackman officiating. Interment will be in Southview cemetery in Moreland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Haynes’ memory to Moreland United Methodist Church 16 Church Street Moreland, Georgia 30259. James Harris

James Walter Harris, 84, of Newnan, GA died on Friday, November 12, 2010 at Newnan Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Egan Park, GA to the late Walter J Harris & Edith Lorine Evans Harris. He served in the United States Navy & Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. He worked as an Audio-Visual Conference Administrator for AT& T until his retirement. He was a member of Orchard Hills Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Juanita Barfield. The funeral service is Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Orchard Hills Baptist Church, Dr. Stacy Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at College Park Cemetery. The visitation is Tuesday for one hour prior to the service in the fellowship hall at the church. The family respectfully requests that flowers not be sent and rather memorial contributions be made to Orchard Hills Baptist Church, 171 Gordon Rd., Newnan, GA 30263. Gail Hall Kennedy, 70, passed away Monday, November 15, 2010 at her home in Sharpsburg. She was born December 1, 1939 in Atlanta to the late Emil Hall & Ann Baker Hall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, James “Jim” S. Kennedy in 1998. Gail was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where she was proud of her service to the Altar Guild. She worked for over 20 years with her husband who was the President of Ascot Supply in Newnan. The memorial service is Friday, November 19, 2010 at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 576 Roscoe Rd, Newnan with Rev. Matt Greathouse officiating. Following the memorial service, there will be a reception for friends and family and the home in Sharpsburg. Merriam Inez Strickland age 70, of Newnan died November 10, 2010 at her residence. Mrs. Strickland was born in Carroll county GA to the late Paul Stitcher and Mattie Hutson Stitcher. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by husband, Herbert Strickland and sisters, Doris Samples, Marylin Farmer, Rudean Carroll. Survivors include Son, Todd and Karen Strickland; sister, Mable and Howard Gaddy; brother, Paul and Dell Stitcher; grandchildren, Trevor Strickland, Kristal Boyd, Kelsie Boyd, Ethan Boyd and Jonathan Boyd; great-grandchildren, Rilee Boyd and Ayden Fuller. Mr. Wayne Kiser, 68, of Grantville, GA and formerly of Marietta, GA passed away on November 14, 2010 at 6:25 p.m. at his residence. Mr. Kiser was born in Taylorsville, GA to the late Hoyt and Velma Kiser. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by brother, Doyle McMichen; sister-in-law, Pat McMichen and a niece Natalie Kiser. He was a lifelong member of the Church of God of the Union Assembly. Wayne has also been a Mason since 1968 and was part of the Shriners for many years. Wayne is survived by his wife of 50 years, Charlotte Kiser; daughter, Anita and husband Drew Summers of Grantville, GA; granddaughter, Alicia and husband David Hannon of Atlanta, GA; brothers, James and wife Linda Kiser of Knoxville, TN, Lamar and wife Judy Kiser of Moreland, GA, Bill McMichen of Calhoun, GA; sister, Runell and husband Clinton Smith, of Smyrna, GA; many nieces and nephews; pallbearers will be Lamont Kiser, Scott Kiser, Nathan Kiser, Landau Bright, Dell McLemore, Darren McCarter, Derrick Bright, Chantley Wilson and Chad Wilson; Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Mowery, Clinton Smith, and Michael Smith Condolences can be sent to the family online at www.mckoon.com.
