Bill A. Guyton, Sr.

Bill A. Guyton, Sr., of Oxford, died May 26, 2009, at the age of 91. Son of the late William and Alice Matilda Puckett Guyton, he was a retired Area Supervisor for the City of Atlanta. Mr. Guyton was a member of Yorkville Baptist Church, in Dallas, GA, as well as the North GA Fox Hunters Association. He had a radio show in the early 1940’s, where he played and sang on the air. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, and enjoyed playing baseball, tennis, pool, and street cars.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Guyton; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Dr. Jack McNeese of Decatur; sons and daughters-in-law, Bill, Jr., and Marie Guyton of Athens, Don and Donna Guyton of Maysville, GA; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; sister, Llewellyn Nalley of Powder Springs; several nieces, nephews, cousins; a host of many friends.

A Graveside Service for Mr. Guyton will be held Friday, May 29, 2009, 2 PM, at Lawnwood Memorial Park, with Rev. Dickie Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Rd., Thursday, May 28, from 6-8 PM.

Korey Ryan Curtis

Korey Ryan Curtis of Covington, died May 27, 2009, at the age of 20. A 2006 graduate from Newton County High School, he was an LSU fan, loved football and baseball, and also enjoyed UFC. Korey was a devoted father, son, brother and friend. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Jenkins Henderson.

Survivors include his fiancé, Danielle Sheffield of Covington; daughter, Cambri McKenzlie Curtis of Covington; father, Barry Curtis of Oxford; mother, Rita Henderson Curtis of Covington; sister and brother-in-law, Keeli and Ethan Fluhart of Woodstock; brother, Kyle Curtis; maternal grandfather, Bobby Joe Henderson; paternal grandparents, Gerald and Bonnie Curtis, all of Covington; nieces, Kylie Belle Fluhart, Kylie Brianna Curtis; nephew, Kaden Charles Fluhart; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Funeral Services for Korey will be held Saturday, May 30, 2009, 2 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Rd., with Rev. Perry Kirk officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Friday, May 29, from 6-9 PM. Flowers are accepted,or donations may be made to a trust fund to be established for Cambri Curtis, in honor of her father, Korey Curtis.

Obie Franklin Henry

Obie Franklin Henry, of Conyers, died July 31, 2008, at Heartland Hospice, at the age of 78. Son of the late Charlie and Margie Canup Henry, he was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church and retired from Coca Cola after 30 years of service. Mr. Henry loved to play music and enjoyed camping and fishing. He was a man who loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Frances Garner Henry of Conyers; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Ronnie Dudley of Stockbridge; sons and daughter-in-law, Danny Henry of Covington, Tony and Lisa Henry of Conyers; grandchildren, Aaron Henry, James Henry, David and Christy King, Brandi Dudley, Justin Henry, Ashley Henry; great-grandchildren, Zach, Caleb, Alex, Destiny, A.J., Connor, Davis; sisters and brothers-in-law, Annie Sue Rowe of Loganville, Linda and Ralph Romans of Milstead, Margaret and Larry Bagley of Covington; brother and sister-in-law, Dewey and Barbara Henry of Covington; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Henry will be held Saturday, August 2, 4:00 P.M. at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, Covington, with Pastor Makie Hawkins and Pastor James Hall officiating with interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Friday, August 1, from 6-9 P.M.

Mrs. Margie Nell Caraway, age 71, of Zebulon passed away Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home with Rev. Ted Moody officiating. Interment followed in the South View cemetery in Thomaston. Friends visited the family on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Moody Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rosemary Raven Eubanks of Decatur, formerly of Con-cord, Ga., died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008. Funeral services were held graveside at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, in Oak Hill cemetery in Griffin, Ga. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1925 Century Blvd. NE, Atlanta, Ga., 30345. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at A.S. Turner and Sons.

Ms. Rebecca Lynn Horton Morgan, age 46, of Atlanta, formerly of Meansville, passed away Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at the Altus Hospice House in Atlanta. A memorial service was conducted Sunday, Dec. 21, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home. Interment followed in Nazareth Baptist Church cemetery on East Milner Road. Friends visited the family on Sunday beginning one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Moody Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Marion Hazel Salter, age 87, of Meansville passed away Monday, Dec. 15, 2008. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, Dec. 18, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home with Rev. James D. Wilson and Rev. Franklin Gibson officiating. Interment followed in Moody Memorial Gardens. Friends visited the family on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Moody Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Annie Ruth Daniel Stribling, age 81, of Molena passed away Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Stribling Family Cemetery. Friends visited the family on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Moody Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

SHIRLEY BURGESS

Shirley Ruth Debter Burgess, 66, passed away June 25. Born in Sylvania, Ala., she served various roles in the Christian ministries of the Church of God. Along with her husband, Rev. Max Burgess, she helped to found the Rising Fawn Church of God and served several congregations as musician, teacher, ladies ministries leader and pastor's wife. In recent years she worked as part of an evangelistic team working under the State Evangelism Department of the Church of God in Northern Georgia. For more than 21 years she worked as an executive with the Windsor Group Insurance Group, coordinating claim damage recovery in a multi-state region. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Rev. Max Burgess; son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Matthew and Edie McCard Burgess; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Hal Anderson; grandchildren, Miles, Abigail, Trippe and Lexie; sister, Ethleen Burt, Trenton; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be June 28 at 2 p.m. at The Church at Liberty Square Church of God in Cartersville with Rev.s Joe Edwards, Don Walker and Steve Brown officiating. She will lie-in-state from 1-2 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Providence cemetery in Cartersville. The family will receive guests at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw today from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Arrangements by Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, Kennesaw.

QUINTON CURRIE

Quinton Ernest Currie, 52, of Pisgah, Ala., passed away June 24. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Ernest Currie and Shirley Schrader Currie. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Currie, Pisgah, Ala.; son and daughter-in-law, Quinton Jonathan Currie and Kendra Dendy, Pisgah, Ala.; daughter, Holly Nicole Currie, Pisgah, Ala.; brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Darlene Currie, Scottsboro, Ala.; granddaughter, Leianna Dendy, Pisgah, Ala.; niece, Brandi Currie, Scottsboro, Ala.; father and mother-in-law, Ollie and Vera Wininger. Funeral services were June 26 in the Kerby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bud Laney and Rev. Butch Foster officiating. Interment was in New Hope cemetery in Pisgah, Ala. ANNE MEADOWS

Anne Barron Meadows, 66, of Lookout Mtn., passed away June 22 at her residence. A native and lifelong resident of the West Brow community of Lookout Mtn., she was employed with Chattem for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mamie Barron. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Mark Hyde of Lookout Mountain.; sisters, Faye Cook, Chattanooga and Wilma Durham, Lookout Mountain.; several nieces and nephews. ROBERT MOORE

Robert E. "Bobby" Moore, 74, of Higdon, Ala., passed away June 23. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of sheet metal Workers Local #5 of Chattanooga. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marsha Moore. Survivors include his wife, Carlene Moore, Higdon, Ala.; daughters and sons-in-law, Malana and Jerry Whited, Higdon, Ala., Marlene and Robert Williams, Flat Rock, Ala., Melissa Anderson, Higdon, Ala.; brothers, Herbert Moore, Pasadena, Texas, Dennis Moore, Higdon, Ala., Willis Moore, Daytona, Fla., Fred Moore, Port Orange, Fla., Howard Moore, Brandon, Fla.; seven grandsons, two granddaughters, three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were June 26 in the Ryan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Ellison and Trina Massengale officiating. Interment was in Payne Gap Cemetery. FLOY THOMPSON

Floy Vest Williams Thompson, 85, of Trenton, passed away June 19 in an area hospital. She was a native of Double Springs, Ala., a longtime resident of Trenton and of the Baptist faith. She ware preceded in death by husbands Howard Williams and David Thompson; parents, Elmer and Bertie Vest; 10 sisters; four brothers; granddaughter, Lisa Lewis; and great-grandchildren Nicholas and Marisa Lewis and Jordan Gravitt. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Loyd Gass, Trenton; sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene "Gene" and Camilla Williams, Double Springs, Ala., Woodrow and Carol Williams, Sylvan Springs, Ala., Paul Williams, Double Springs, Ala., Phillip and Helen Williams, Mulga, Ala.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Audrey and Doug Pearl, Jasper, Ala., Barbara and Douglas Rice, Double Springs, Ala.; brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Norma Vest, Sylvan Springs, Ala.; 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were June 22 at Pine Tuckey Missionary Baptist Church. Interment was in Pine Tuckey cemetery in Winston County, Ala. PEARL BLEVINS

Mrs. Pearl Fugatt Blevins, 90, of New England, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at her residence. She was a member of the New England Baptist Church and was a retired teacher from the Dade County School System, a member of Delta Kappa Gama Sorority. Mrs. Blevins was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Blevins. Survivors include: one daughter, Virginia Wallin, Wildwood; one son, Russell Blevins, Wildwood; four granddaughters; two great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter. Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 16, in the Ryan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Allen Flowers officiating. Interment was in Payne Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the New England Baptist Church Building Fund. Arrangements were by Ryan Funeral Home in Trenton.

ROXIE BLEVINS

Mrs. Roxie Blevins, 96, of Flat Rock, Ala. (Shiloh Community), died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, in Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, Tenn. She was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Ider, Ala. She had five generations of family. Mrs. Blevins was preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Rich" Blevins; one daughter, Ivalee Blevins; three sons, Cleve, R.M. and Floyd Blevins; two brothers, Gurley and Joe Young; one sister, Idella Woods. Survivors include: one son, Olen Blevins, Flat Rock, Ala.; four daughters, Mary Sue Stephens, Geneva Bearden, both of Flat Rock, Ala., Faye Oliver, Ooltewah, Tenn., Nell Hale, Rossville; 30 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services was held Saturday, Sept. 16, in Kerby Funeral Home Chapel with the Elders Warren C. Meadows, Ralph Heard and Rayford Brown officiating. Interment was in Antioch cemetery in Ider, Ala. Arrangements were by Kerby Funeral Home in Henagar, Ala.

IDA BROWN

Mrs. Ida Mae Stephens Brown, 94, of Ider, Ala., died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, in Crown Health Care in Fort Payne, Ala. She was born in Hall County. She was a member of Forrest Hill Methodist Church in Ider, Ala. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Chasteen F. Brown; parents, Leonard and Elizabeth Voyles Stephens. Survivors include: one son, Roy Joe Brown, Ider, Ala.; daughter-in-law, Barbara Brown, Ider, Ala.; one daughter, Betty Ruth Buffington, Ider, Ala.; one brother, Lionel Stephens, Guntersville, Ala.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held today at 1 p.m. in the Kerby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Leldon Hardin, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens in Rainsville, Ala. Arrangements were by Kerby Funeral Home in Henagar, Ala.

ELSIE RIDDLE

Mrs. Elsie Marie Littleton Riddle, 91, of Rising Fawn, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at the residence of her daugher. She was a member of the Rising Fawn Baptist Church. Mrs. Riddle was preceded in death by her husband Bill Riddle, Sr. Survivors include: four daughters, Marie Smith and Bety Wallin, both of Rising Fawn, Virginia Steele, Lawrenceville, and Barbara Smith, Wildwood; two sons, Bill and Ernie Riddle, both of Rising Fawn; one sister, Helen Mussleman, Florence, Ala.; 14 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 14, in Ryan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Jensen officiating. Interment was in Lake Hills Memorial Gardens in Trenton. Arrangements were by Ryan Funeral Home in Trenton.

MARY SIMONS

Mrs. Mary "Lou" Ackison Simons, 73, of Dade County, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, in a local hospital. She was originally from Charleroi, Pa., a long-time resident of the Hixson area and currently was a resident of Dade County. She was a 1949 graduate of Penn State University and was a founding member of the Penn State Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She was a member of the Privateer Yacht Club for 33 years and was of the Methodist faith. Survivors include: husbnad, Ken Simons; one son, Bill Simons, Wildwood; daughter-in-law, Sherry Simmons, Wildwood; three grandchildren, Kelly, Brian and Marc Simons, all of Wildwood; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 19, in Lane Funeral Home, Coulter Chapel with the Rev. Jack Wilson and the Rev. Eddie Cantrell officiating. A private burial was held in Chattanooga U.S. National Cemetery. Arrangements were by Lane Funeral Home, Coulter Chapel in Chattanooga, Tenn.

VERA ABERCROMBIE

Mrs. Vera Abercrombie, 80, of Trenton, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001. She was a homemaker and a member of the Five Points Baptist Church. Survivors include: husband, Truett Abercrombie; two daughters, Hilda Hickey, Louisville, Ky., Ranita Bradford, Rising Fawn; two sons, Charles Abercrombie, Rising Fawn, Myron Abercrombie, Gadsden, Ala.; six sisters, Tola Ott and Opella Smith, both of Ider, Ala., Flona Thornhill, Pisgah, Ala., Gertha Lee Stoner, Birmingham, Ala., Ivonene Thompson, Tunnell Hill, Zula Jones, Chattanooga, Tenn.; two brothers, Hershel and Willard Boyston, both of Ider, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 9, in Trenton Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Ellison and the Rev. Fred Bradford officiating. Interment was in Fuller cemetery in Ider, Ala. Arrangements were by Moore Funeral Home in Trenton.

HUGH BURNETTE

Mr. Hugh E. Burnette, Sr., 58, of Higdon, Ala., died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001. Survivors include: wife, Katherine Burnette, Higdon, Ala.; two sons, Hugh Burnette, Jr., Higdon, Ala., Kenny Burnette, Ringgold; mother, Daisy Burnette, Rossville; two sisters, June Foote, Chattanooga, Nelda Wright, Fort Oglethorpe; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 9, in Ryan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Camp officiating. Interment was in Brown Gap Cemetery. Arrangements were by Ryan Funeral Home in Trenton.

REV. TAYLOR CASTLEBERRY

The Rev. Taylor Castleberry, 82, of East Ridge, Tenn., formerly of Rising Fawn, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at his residence. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy; he was a retired Baptist minister and served at several Baptist churches in the tri-state area, including Rising Fawn Baptist Church and White Oak Baptist Church in Trenton. He served two four-year terms on the Georgia Baptist Executive Committee and two terms as moderator of the Lookout Valley Baptist Association. He was a promoter of gospel singing and began his own radio ministry in 1960 and continued through June 2000. Mr. Castleberry was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Castleberry; one brother, Fredrick Castleberry; one sister, Lucille Stoehr. Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Judy and DeLane Shavers, Pisgah, Ala.; two sons, Larry Castleberry and Ronald Bohrer, both of Chattanooga; one brother, Clarence Castleberry, McCalla, Ala.; two sisters, Dorothy McDaniel, Bessemer, Ala.; Bernice Allen, Carmichael, Calif.; one grandson, Michael D. Shavers; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 7, in Trenton Chapel of Moore Funeral Home. Interment was in Lakewood Memory Gardens South. Arrangements were by Moore Funeral Home in Trenton.

NELLIE JOHNSON

Mrs. Nellie Jane (Miles) Johnson, 88, of Higdon, Ala., died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at Sunbridge Health Care in South Pittsburg, Tenn. She was born in Jackson County, Ala., and was a member of the Mount Oliver Baptist Church in Higdon, Ala. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth Miles; husband, Edward Johnson; five brothers, Frank, Jay, Rufus, Willy and Charlie Miles; two sisters, Myrtle McDonald and Alma Tinker. Survivors include: two sons, Carlton Frazer, Flat Rock, Ala., Vernon Johnson, Higdon, Ala.; daughter, Carolyn Anderton, Bryant, Ala.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 7, in Kerby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glenn Tilley officiating. Interment was in Kenemer cemetery in Flat Rock, Ala. Arrangements were by Kerby Funeral Home in Henagar, Ala.

HASSEL MCDONALD

Mrs. Hassel McDonald, 85, of Trenton, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in a local hospital. She was a lifelong resident of Dade County, a homemaker and a Baptist. Mrs. McDonald was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas M. (Fox) McDonald, and a daughter, Bertha Finks. Survivors include: daughter, Ethel Clark, Trenton; two sons, James M. McDonald and Thomas W. (Corky) McDonald, both of East Ridge, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 8, in Trenton Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with the Rev. Wade Brown and the Rev. O.A. Bethune officiating. Interment was in Trenton Baptist Cemetery. Arrangements were by Moore Funeral Home in Trenton.

OPAL PRITCHETT

Mrs. Opal Inez Pritchett, 72, of Bryant, Ala., died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Griffin Holiness Church on Lookout Mountain. Mrs. Pritchett was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Minnie Bomain. Survivors include: husband, Estil O. (Tee) Pritchett; two daughters, Darlene Baker and Gloria Cornelison, both of Bryant, Ala.; two sons, Estil (Skeeter) Pritchett, Trenton, Eugene Pritchett, Bryant, Ala.; two sisters, Polly Barnes and Kathy Calloway, both of Bryant, Ala.; three brothers, Leo, Alton and Sammy Bomain, all of Bryant, Ala.; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 4, in Trenton Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with the Rev. Jamie McClain, the Rev. Billy Parker and the Rev. Jimmy Furgerson officiating. Interment was in Oak Lawn Memorial Park in Bryant, Ala. Arrangements were by Moore Funeral Home in Trenton.

Mrs. Mattie Heard Underwood, 86, of Ider, Ala., died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at Cloverdale Manor Health Care in Scottsboro, Ala. She was a member of Kingšs Chapel Baptist Church. Mrs. Underwood was preceded in death by her parents, Ottie and Sally Heard; two sisters, Emma Smith and Myrtle Kay. Survivors include: husband, Roy Underwood, Ider, Ala.; daughter, Wilma Bunns, Ider, Ala.; son and daughter-in-law, LeRoy and Frances Underwood, Lakeland, Fla.; brother, William Heard, Hudson, Fla.; sister, Forrestine Carter, Plant City, Fla.; grandchildren, Ronnie, Randy and LeeRoy Underwood, Rhonda Murray, Lisa Bailey, Roy, Tommy, Diane and Amanda Bunns. Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 7, in Corner Stone Chapel with the Rev. Buddy Keith and the Rev. James Lackey officiating. Interment was in New Home Cemetery. Arrangements were by Corner Stone Funeral Home in Ider, Ala.
