THOMSON, Ga.- Miss Grace Hildebrand, infant daughter of Mike and Christy Hildebrand, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004 in the St. Joseph Hospital.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 12, in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Dr. Jim Ramsey officiating.

Survivors include her parents, Mike and Christy Hildebrand; her maternal grandmother, Cindy Graham; her paternal grandparents, Newt and Venice Hildebrand; her maternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Higdon; her paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Ruth Hildebrand and her aunts and uncles, Pam and Keith Ashley and John and Marguerite Graham.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. George Neal Phillips

THOMSON, Ga.- Mr. George Neal Phillips, 55, of Stagecoach Rd, Thomson, entered into rest on June 11, 2004 at his residence.
Survivors include wife, Kathy Phillips of Thomson; son, Michael Sean Phillips of Thomson; daughter, Michelle Lee Phillips of Panama City, Fla.; mother, Laura Ruth Phillips of Eatontown, N.J.; sister, Sharon Dowen of Raleigh, N.C.

Mr. Phillips was the son of the late Courtney Leland Phillips and Laura Ruth West Phillips; and he was preceded in death by his sister, Paula Ciarducco of Morris, Il. Mr. Phillips was a native of Iowa and moved to Thomson seven years ago after coming from Pennsylvania. He has been employed as a Field Engineer with the Department of Defense for the past 27 years. Mr. Phillips attended LSU, served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era and in Germany for 14 years. He was a member of the VFW and "Cootie". Mr. Phillips was also a Methodist by faith.

Memorial services were held on Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at 2 p.m., at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Ronald Owens officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Mr. James Harold "Jim" Brooks, Sr.
Bellsouth retiree
MARTINEZ, Ga.- Mr. James Harold "Jim" Brooks, Sr., age 76, of Martinez, loving husband of Wanda Breshears Brooks entered into rest on Saturday, June 5, 2004 at the residence.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, James H. Brooks, Jr. and his wife Sharon of Social Circle, Ga.; two daughters, Rebecca and her husband Victor McCann of Clarks Hill, S.C. and Lisa and her husband Mark Jones of Appling; six grandsons, James H. Brooks, III of Lincolnton, Joshua and his wife Jami and Timothy Brooks and his wife Amy, all of Gibson, Adam Silas and his wife Tiffany of Clarks Hill, S.C., Jared Smith, Mark Jones and one granddaughter Katlyn Jones, all of Appling; two great-grandsons, Dallas Brooks of Lincolnton, and Connor Silas of Clarks Hill, S.C.; brothers, Johnny Brooks of Dearing, and Aubrey Brooks of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; sister, Joyce Hughes of Thomson.

Graveside funeral services were held in Hillcrest Memorial Park on Monday at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Billy Atkins officiating.

Honorary pallbearers were the Martin Cave Sunday School Class.

Mr. Brooks was born in Wrens to the late Lemuel and Annie Thigpen Brooks. He was in the Merchant Marines and then joined the US Navy during WWII, after returning from military service he worked for Bellsouth Telephone Company and retired with 38 years of service. Mr. Brooks retired after 28 years as a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy Seabees Reserve. He was a member of Fleming Baptist Church, Wymberley Association Social Club, the Star Promenaders Square Dance Club, two R.V. Clubs and both Doctor's and University Hospitals Senior Friends.

Mrs. Annie J. Benson

NORWOOD, Ga.- Mrs. Annie J. Benson of Norwood entered into rest May 29, 2004, at Warrenton Health and Rehabilitation.
Survivors include son, Arthur Benson, Norwood; daughters, Ann B. Shelton and Joan B. Bland both of Norwood; brother, Arthur B. Taylor, Warrenton; sister, Nellie Smith, Warrenton; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Benson was a lifelong resident of Warren County. She was also a homemaker and a member of Norwood Baptist Church. Mrs. Benson was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Benson.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at the Beggs Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Carol Fox officiating.

Pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandchildren.

Interment followed in the Benson Family Cemetery, Norwood.

Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Ms. India Butler
THOMSON, Ga.- The funeral for Ms. India Butler, 94, of Thomson, was held Friday, May 28, 2004 at 3 p.m. at the Greater St. James A.M.E. Church, Thomson, Ga. Rev. Gerald Caldwell, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Westview Cemetery.
Ms. Butler was a McDuffie County native and a member and the mother of the Greater St. James A.M.E. Church where she was a lifelong member.

Survivors are her nephews, Luther J. Butler of New York, Willie E. Butler of Augusta, Leonard D. Butler of Baltimore, Md., Marvin Butler of Queens, New York; nieces, Hattie Bell Butler of Augusta, Patricia Bennifield of Augusta, Peggy Butler of Baltimore, Md.; cousins, James Parks of Thomson, Peola Riddick of Irvington, N.J., Irene Taylor of Brooklyn, N.Y., Inez Williams of Uniodcale, New York; a host of great nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Miss Betty Jean Center
THOMSON, Ga.- Miss Betty Jean Center, age 71, formerly of Warrenville, S.C., daughter of the late William Brinson Center and the late Ruby Cobb Center, entered into rest Sunday, May 30, 2004 in Thomson Manor in Thomson.
She is survived by an aunt, Bernice Hymer of Bath, S.C. and a niece, Mona Lisa Rosales of Dearing.

She was born in Aiken County, S.C. and up to the past few months, was a lifelong resident of Aiken County. She was a member of the Warrenville Church of God in Warrenville, S.C.

The funeral service was conducted Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Napier Funeral Home with Rev. William E. Starnes officiating. The interment followed in the Warrenville Cemetery.

The pallbearers were Victoriano Rosales, Gustavo Acuna, Robert Koon, Jr., Robert Koon, Sr., Ryan Shealy and Christopher Shealy.

Napier Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Mr. Anthony D. Duckworth, Sr.
THOMSON, Ga.- The funeral for Mr. Anthony D. Duckworth, Sr. of Twin Oaks Rd., Thomson, was held on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Springfield Baptist Church, Thomson, Rev. F. D. Favors, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Bethel A.M.E. Church cemetery in Norwood, Ga.
Mr. Duckworth was a McDuffie County native, a graduate of Thomson High School and employed as a supervisor for the City of Thomson.

Survivors are his wife, Brenda Duckworth; a son, Anthony D. Duckworth, Jr.; a daughter, Shanquanishia D. Duckworth; father, William Duckworth; a sister, Faye H. Duckworth, all of Thomson; two brothers, Larry Lampkin of Columbus, Ohio and William T. Duckworth of Atlanta, Ga. and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Martha Page Ivey
Retired Registered Nurse
THOMSON, Ga.- Mrs. Martha Page Ivey, 57, of Elizabeth Dr., Thomson, entered into rest May 29, 2004 at Doctors Hospital.
She was the wife of the late W. L. Ivey and daughter of the late Charles Page and the late Dottie Owens Page.

Survivors include sons, Scott Grey (June), Thomson, Charles Kruger (Cymbria), Thomson; step-daughters, Teresa Ivey and Kim Usry both of Augusta, Angela Williamson, Thomson; sisters, Helen Woods (Eric), McBean, Charlene Sizemore (Preston), Augusta, Cindy Page, Thomson and eight grandchildren.

Mrs. Ivey was a native of Augusta, but lived in Thomson for the past 20 years. She was retired as a Registered Nurse from Doctors Hospital. Mrs. Ivey was also a Baptist by faith.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Tabler officiating.

Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Mrs. Pamela Ann Wheatley Land

DEARING, Ga.- Mrs. Pamela Ann Wheatley Land, 47, of Lokey Dr., SE, died Sunday at the McDuffie County Hospital.
Mrs. Land was a native of Wilkes Co. and had lived most of her life in McDuffie County. She was the daughter of the late Lee and Miriam Wheatley and she and her husband William had been married for 20 years. She worked at Winn Dixie and was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Rehoboth Baptist Church in Washington, Ga., with Rev. Stephen Rayner and Rev. Reginald Blakewood officiating, with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lloyd Axon, Allen Axon, Michael Land, Michael Griffin, Douglas Wheatley, Wayne Beantley, Mike Wheatley and Jimmy Wilcher.

She is survived by her husband, William Land, and two brothers, Joey Wheatley of Thomson and Tommy Wheatley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial l contributions may be made to the Rehoboth Baptist Church Building Fund, 3219 Metasville, Rd., Washington, Ga. 30673.

Mrs. Inez McDaniel
Retired Weaver
THOMSON, Ga.- Mrs. Inez McDaniel, 82, widow of Mr. Clyde McDaniel, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, in the McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Friday, May 28, 2004, in the Enoree Baptist Church in Enoree, S.C., with the Revs. Bob Mathis and Ron Parris officiating. Burial was in the Greenhaven Memorial Park in Enoree, S.C.

Mrs. McDaniel was a native of Woodruff, S.C., but had lived in Thomson for several years. She was a retired weaver at Riverdale Mills. She was a member of Thomson First Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Frances and Wayne Cowart, Thomson, Cathy McKinney, Rock Hill, S.C. and Angelia McDaniel, Spartanburg, S.C.; a son, Ken and Sandy McDaniel and 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Robbie Cowart, Adam Willis, Josh Brodhecker, Chris McDaniel, Lester Johnston, and Jairo Marcano.

Mr. William R. "Will" Mills
Retired-Richmond County Recreation Dept.
AUGUSTA, Ga.- Mr. William R. "Will" Mills, 78, husband of Mrs. Emma Mae Mills, entered into rest Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at the Medical College of Georgia.
A native of Elberton, Ga., Mr. Mills had lived in Augusta for 52 years. He was retired from the Richmond County Recreation Dept. as a mechanic after 26 years of service. He was a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School and Training Union teacher and a deacon. He was owner and operator of the Par 3 Citgo on Kissingbower Road for many years.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a daughter, Connie Elaine Shaw and her husband William, of Martinez; two sons, William Alvin Mills and wife, Virginia of Thomson and Larry Douglas Mills and wife, Cheryl McNab of Augusta; two grandchildren, Leslie Wise and her husband, Timothy and Haley Mills and one great-grandson, Jack Wise; two sisters, Betty Albertson and Jewel Madden, both of Elberton and a brother, Grady Mills.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, John Shaw.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 28, 2004 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with the Rev. Lloyd Green officiating. Burial was in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Tommy Boyles, William Alvin Mills, Larry D. Mills, Tim Wise, Jimmy Marsh and Gerald Kicklighter.

Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Mrs. Mattie Pearl Parker
DEARING, Ga.- Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Pearl Parker of Ft. Creek Church Road, Dearing, were held on Monday, May 31, 2004, at noon at Poplar Head Baptist Church of Christ. Rev. David Lowe officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include a stepson, Joseph Parker of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Mrs. Mima P. Hill of Thomson; special niece, Mildred Jackson of College Park, Ga.; devoted friends, Lynn Jones of Harlem, and Ludella Hobbs of Dearing; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.
