THOMSON, Ga.- Mr. Hugh L. Langston, 68, of Ridge Avenue, Thomson, entered into rest April 24, 2004, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
He was the loving husband of Evelyn Brannan Langston, Thomson and the loving father of four daughters, Kathy L. Cook (Paul), Thomson, Lynn L. DuVall, Thomson, Michele L. Gunter (Robert), Warrenton and Sherry L. Hayes (Doug), Thomson, and the grandfather of Paul Winter Cook, Summer Ann Cook, Logan DuVall, Brant Hayes and Hannah Gunter.

Funeral services were held April 26, 2004, at Sweetwater Baptist Church with Revs. Kenneth Garvin and Richard Dendler officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Michael Cook, Jeffrey Cook, Jeff Rogers, Keith Rogers, Warren Newsome and Buddy Hayes.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association and to the American Cancer Society.

Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Thelma N. "Molly" McGee
BLYTHE, Ga. - Mrs. Thelma N. "Molly" McGee, age 77, beloved wife of the late Horace McGee, Sr. entered into rest Wednesday April 21, 2004 at St. Joseph Hospital.
Graveside services were held Saturday, April 24, 2004 in Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Rev. Joel Munday officiating.

Mrs. McGee was a native of Dearing and lived in the Augusta area most of her life. She retired as a Supervising Cashier from the Ft. Gordon Commissary, and was a Baptist in faith.

Survivors include one son, Robert McGee of Augusta; three daughters, Shirley McGee Mills of Grovetown, Clara McGee Davis of Appling, Blanche McGee Gregory of Blythe, seventeen grand children and a host of great and great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. McGee was preceded in death by her son, Horace McGee, Jr.

Mr. Charlie B. Singletary

HEPHZIBAH, Ga.- Mr. Charlie B. Singletary entered into rest Saturday, April 24, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. Singletary is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Singletary. Family members include five daughters, Donna Singletary Self, Hephzibah, Sue Singletary Johnson, Grovetown, Jane Singletary Loren, Augusta, Jennifer Singletary Hawkins, Dearing, Betty Singletary Bourne, South Boston, Va.; one son, Charlie B. Singletary Jr., 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Addie Maude White, Eileene Harvey, Betty June Newsome, Bobbie Hutto and Faye Roberts. Mr. Singletary was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Charlie Andrew Singletary and Mrs. Eva Jane Singletary and a sister, Lucille Mason and five brothers, R.E. Singletary, Robert Singletary, Herbert Singletary, Donald Singletary and Willie Singletary.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 26, 2004, at 3 p.m., at the Crossroad Baptist Church, Hephzibah, with Brother Mike Andrews and Brother Eddie Renew officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Hephzibah-Vance Cemetery.

Pallbearers weare Terry Self Jr., Charlie B. Singletary, III, Daniel L. Johnson, Lee Hawkins, Lynn Hawkins and Larry Hawkins Jr.

Mr. Cecil Poss
Voice of the Bulldogs
THOMSON, Ga.- Mr. Cecil Poss, 68, beloved husband of Mrs. Pat Poss, of Gingerhill Road, died Saturday, April 24, 2004, in Doctor's Hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 28, in Marshall Baptist Church with the Revs. John Prater and Don Reeves officiating. Burial was in Westview Cemetery.
Mr. Poss was a native of Wilkes County, but had lived in McDuffie County for many years. He was a 1953 graduate of Thomson High School. He was retired from Federal Paper Company. He was the "Voice of the Thomson High Bulldogs" for more than 20 years. He was a member of the Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief Team. He was a member of Marshall Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Mens II Sunday School Class. He was also a Sunday School Teacher for many years.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Warren, Leonard Boyce and Thomas.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pat Poss, Thomson; two daughters, Sandy (Mike) Lloyd, Thomson and Dena (Jeff) Jeffers, Byron; two sons, Dewayne (Tawnie) Poss and Bruce (Sandra) Poss, both of Thomson; five sisters, Ruth Rogers, Easley, S.C., Helen Phillips, Dearing, Annette Thigpen, Norwood, Ralphine Powers and Leila Nunnally, both of Thomson; a brother, John Edwards Poss, Defuniak Springs, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Catherine, J.D. and John Cassidy Jeffers, Carol and Cameron Poss, Brianna Poss, James, William and Davey Lloyd and an honorary grandchild, Anna Newsome.

Pallbearers were members of the Mens II Sunday School Class and Mr. Dewayne Patrick.

Donations may be made to the Marshall Baptist Church Building Fund or Van Fund.

Mrs. Pennie Lee Boyd
DEARING, Ga.-Funeral services were held for Mrs. Pennie Lee Boyd of Hobbs Mill Road, Dearing, who died April 10, 2004, on Saturday, April 17, 2004 at the Popular Head Baptist Church of Christ, Dearing, with Rev. David Lowe, Pastor, officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Survivors are Fran Boyd, Dearing, William (Barbara) Boyd, Dearing, Polly (Lawson) Hopkins Sr., Bronx, N.Y., Mary Boyd, Washington, D.C., Penny Boyd, Washington, D.C., Pauline Boyd, Dearing, Ga., Sally (Earl) Collins Sr., Dearing, George (Gloria) Boyd, Dearing; 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lula Samuels, Augusta; one brother, Detroit, Hobbs, Dearing; other relatives and friends.

Thomson Funeral Systems was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sara Whitaker Chafin
HARTWELL, Ga.- Mrs. Sara Whitaker Chafin, 95, of Hartwell, Ga., died Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at her home.
Born June 7, 1908, in Harlem, she was the daughter of the late Toombs Alexander Whitaker and Mary Anna Hatcher Whitaker. She was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women, a 1929 Graduate from the University of Georgia and she attended the first game in the Stanford Stadium. She was retired with 24 years of service from Hart County School System as a Home Economics Teacher and a total of 30 years in teaching. She was the three-time President and Charter President of the Pilot Club of Hartwell, Past Regionant for the D.A.R., a member of the Retired Teachers of Hart County, Hartwell Women's Club and Madora Garden Club. She was also a member of Hartwell First United Methodist Church, Live Wire Sunday School Class, Lessie K. Page Circle and the UMW.

Her survivors include son, William V. 'Bill' Chafin, Jr. and his wife, Kaye of Hartwell, Ga., Thomas L. 'Tom' Chafin CDR U.S. Navy ret. and his wife, Pat of Virginia Beach, Va.; five grandchildren, Sally LeSage, Mary K. Woods, Will Chafin, Lee Chafin and James Chafin; 10 great-grandchildren, Leanne Chafin, Sara Lynn LeSage, Annie LeSage, John Henry Woods, Lydia Woods, Mary Helen Woods, Emily Chafin, Reid Chafin and Anna Grace Chafin; three sisters-in-law, Mildred Z. Whitaker of Norcross, Ga., Velma Chafin of Norwood, Ga. and Nina C. Jones of Thomson.

She was preceded in death by parents; husband, William Vernon Chafin, Sr.; grandchild;, Jamie Chafin; and eight brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 16, 2004 at Hartwell First United Methodist Church. Rev R. Allen Stewart, Rev. Jim Winn and Rev. David Sargent will officiate. Burial was in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

Flowers are optional and memorials may be made to Hartwell First United Methodist Church Capital Fund, 200 E. Howell Street, Hartwell, Ga. 30643.

Mr. Artis Greene
WARRENTON, Ga. - Mr. Artis Greene, 86, of Warrenton, Ga., entered into rest April 18, 2004 at the University Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of Grace Chalker Greene for 61 years.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Chalker Greene, Warrenton; two sons: Tony Greene, Gibson, Art Greene (Laura Ellen), Richmond, Va.; two Daughters: Carolyn Greene Chester (Tom), Warrenton, Pamela Greene Duckworth (Tommy), Warrenton; one brother, Orville W. Greene, Marysville, California; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Greene was a native of Hamilton County, Fla., and had lived in Warrenton, Ga. since 1963. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII, retired from the V. A. Medical Center and served as Warren County Road Superintendant for several years. Mr. Greene also attended the Believers Gospel Chapel.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John Riemer officiating. Interment was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Stacey Greene, Lance Green, Brent Jackson, Byron Holt, Tim Rooks and Steve Rooks.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Believers Gospel Chapel, 3562 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta, Ga., 30906.

Mrs. Mamie T. Hinton
THOMSON, Ga.- Mrs. Mamie T. Hinton, 86, beloved wife of Mr. E.L. 'Buddy' Hinton, of Whiteoak Road, died Saturday, April 17, 2004, in the Medical College of Georgia Hospital.
Funeral services were held April 20, in the Sweetwater Baptist Church with the Revs. Kenneth Garvin and Carroll Leopard officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hinton was a native of Warren County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. She was a homemaker and had retired from the Thomson Company. She was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Hinton and daughter, Dorothy H. Usry.

She is survived by her husband, Mr. Edward L. 'Buddy' Hinton, Thomson; three grandsons, Ronnie Goldman and Bobby Goldman, both of Thomson and David Usry, Evans; a granddaughter, Donna U. Thompson, Evans; five great-granddaughters, four great-grandsons and two great-great-granddaughters; a daughter, Shirley H. Jackson, Athens and a son, Tommy Lamar Hinton, Thomson.

Pallbearers were Johnny Brooks, Thomas Black, Russell Richards, Charles Wallace, Everett Newsome and Joe Baker.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lucille Rivers Jackson
Mrs. Lucille Rivers Jackson, of Thomson, entered into rest on Monday, April 12, 2004, at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center in Glascock County.
Mrs. Jackson, a Warren County native, was a homemaker and member of Sandy Grove A.M.E. Church.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Mr. Levy Jackson, five daughters, three sons, 25 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 17, 2004, at Sandy Grove A.M.E. Church in Warrenton, Ga., with Reverend Charles Logan officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Willie Pearl Sellars Washington

DEARING, Ga.- Entered into rest Thursday, April 15, 2004, at the Thomson Manor Nursing Home, Mrs. Willie Pearl Sellars Washington, 89, wife of the late Mr. Gusie Thomas Washington.
Graveside services were held Saturday, April 17, 2004, in the Dearing Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Mike Sutphin officiating.

Mrs. Washington, a native of McDuffie County, was a homemaker and a member of Silver Run Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Glenda Washington, of Dearing; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Gusie Washington, Jr.

Pallbearers were Aubrey Jones, Warren Sellars, Charles Washington, Ray Washington, Sam McNair and Frankie Richardson.

If so desired, memorials made to the Silver Run Baptist Church, 5406 Highway 221 SE, Harlem, Ga. 30814.

Mr. Robert W. Cason, Sr.
Retired
THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Robert W. Cason, Sr. of Thomson, Georgia entered into rest April 11, 2004 at St. Joseph Hospital.
He was the husband of the late Mrs. Myrtice J. Cason. He was 86 years of age.

Funeral Services were Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert C. Gillespie officiating. Interment was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Shannon Brooks, Johnny Brooks, Lloyd Brooks, Richard T. Winter, Jason Winter and Joe Baker.

Mr. Cason was a native and lifelong resident of McDuffie County, retired as a Farmer and associated with Gulf Oil Corporation for 38 years. He was a former member of the Kilpatrick Baptist Association serving as Moderator in 1952-1953, 1963-1964, also as Treasurer, Baptist Training Union Director, Music Director and a member of the Georgia Baptist Convention Executive Committee. Mr. Cason was also a member of the Thomson First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert W. Jr. and Cindy Cason of Hephzibah; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara C. and Robert E. Neal of Thomson; five grandchildren, Robert W. Cason, III, Thomas Cason, Crystal Cason, Keith Neal, Barbara Dolph; five great-grandchildren; cousins and two devoted friends, Mr. and Mrs. Don Yates of Dearing.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, Georgia, 30906.
